I’m sad that you didn’t mention how Henry VIII tricked Anne into signing divorce papers in exchange for mercy (aka keep her head)… after she signed them she was led outside where she thought she would be freed but was led to the executioner block….
This isn’t true at all. I’ve researched the tudors pretty copiously and written multiple papers on them and unless you have some sort of primary source on this, it is not true. Henry annulled the marriage, they did not have divorce papers in the slightest.
Edward IV left his cousin Jane Grey, the Nine Days Queen as his heir, but Mary I fought this and reclaimed her spot in the succession as left in Henry VIII's will. Elizabeth I succeeded her half sister Mary I.
Actually, right before Edwards death they drew up an emergency plan, called the "Device to Succession" that named Jane Grey, Edwards protestant cousin, as his successor. She was never coronated, so she wasn't technically a Queen, but she was at the same time. Still, only for 9 days until Mary I, the ACTUAL claimant to the Throne of England, and all her many many supporters swept into London and claimed the throne. She was going to allow Jane Grey to live, knowing that she had been influenced and even forced into the agreement by Edwards privy counsel and nobles. However, her father kept plotting coups to take back the Throne for his daughter and her young husband, so she ended up being executed along with her young husband and her father.
Your information is incorrect. Edward left the throne to Lady Jane Grey who was Queen for nine days until, Mary, daughter of Catherine of Aragon, rode into London with an army, captured Queen Jane Grey, and had her beheaded. Mary then became Queen, known as "Bloody Mary', and when she died a few years later, her half-sister, Elizabeth I became Queen.
I saw a history on this where they said that Henry had a fall where he hit his head and was unconscious for a time. That's when his issues when Anne began so some people believe his concussion might have effected his personality.
To some extent but don't forget...he did what he did to his loyal wife BEFORE any head trauma. He was unbelievably cruel to Catherine AND Mary. I think it may have knocked off the mask, but I don't think it made him a monster. He was already that on his own.
Yes, there are some good documentaries about it. He really did love her or maybe he thought he did. Given how quickly he turned on her when the male heir didn't appear.
Lady Jane Gray was “queen” for a couple days. Like most families, her family orchestrated this. I do wonder if Anne B had produced sons, would Henry have been loyal to her. Jane Seymour who came after Anne B did produce a son, Edward, but she died , so we may never know if producing a son would have saved Anne B
I think so. He all but turned Jane into a saint for it. Calling her his "one true love." To be clear, I think it would have saved Anne from beheading, not from Henry messing around. Eventually, she probably would have faced issues because Anne couldn't turn a blind eye the same way his first wife did.
I don’t think it’s TOO crazy to leave Lady Jane Grey off of this, only because her 9-day reign itself was disputed, and from what we know Jane accepted the crown under duress, and happily relinquished her claim when Mary I won. She can easily be considered an illegitimate monarch. But leaving Mary I out makes no sense. She was crowned and reigned for 5 years.
Like it or not they were born/conquering royals just like any other throughout history and most of these people were not great people. Their are plenty of really heinous royals/rulers in history. Many far worse than Henry. It's the same for existing monarchs today they just thankfully have far less power now.
The letters are in the Vatican because the case for annulment went before the Holy See...that's why...Anne was not giving anything up until Henry put a ring on her finger. This was a big deal after all. Henry did not say he was a protestant....he just said...he was head of the Catholic church in England and that everyone should swear an oath of allegiance to him. The church of England as it is now was in place in Elizabeth's I time much later/
So, as stated in numerous comments there were a number of inaccuracies and aspects left out in this video. First, part of the reason why Pope Clement was unwilling to grant the divorce was because Catherine's nephew was Charles The Fifth, who was the Holy Roman Emperor at the time. Catherine, being the smart and very shrewd woman she was, had written to Charles talking about her treatment by the king and asking Charles for help. He responded (or some say his men acted independently) by having his troops march into Rome, forcing Clement to flee the Vatican and remain a virtual prisoner for the rest of his days in Rome. Clement obviously did not want to antagonize his jailer (who for all intents and purposes was Charles) so he declined Henry's request. Secondly, as previously stated, Edward reigned for six years after Henry died, before he passed it to Lady Jane Grey. She reigned for a mere 9 days before Mary the First took over, reigning for five years before she then died and Elizabeth the First took over.
Awful ending for a history channel video. You skipped two queens: Jane and Mary. Edward most certainly didn't intend to leave his sister Elizabeth the Crown and didn’t do so.

I went to London last year and was fascinated by The Tower of London and the burial in Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula of Anne and Katherine Howard. Always loved The Tudor Era. Of course, I had to see SIX in the West End!
What Henry did to Catherine was unconscionable. She actually won wars in his absence, in his name & for England. Once he did what he did to her ? She lived in abject misery, but was a pillar of strength to all that knew her. A strongly religious & principled woman, that Catherine of Aragon. And as strong as women come- with advanced apologies to every African-American that ever had a mother... 🚬😎👍
Yes, he did majorly screw her over but he also had the added pressure of having a male heir. Men do this to their wives all the time just because they find a younger woman. And they do not have the excuse of needing an heir.
Technically, Henry and Catherine DID have a son - Henry, Duke of Cornwall. He only lived a few months, but he was born alive and would have been Henry IX if he'd lived.
1 question I know it is a literature story but is it true about the story of the kind Edward that he went and found a boy who looked like him and they exchanged the roles for 1 day ? I saw it from a documentry on TV like 10 years ago or more and since I found by chance this channel first on snapchat and then I looked it up on youtube so this story came up so I asked you about it is it true? about The Prince and the Pauper thing
The problem was simple really....Henry couldn't produce a single healthy male heir....now if Catherine of Aragon had given birth to a couple of bouncing baby boys all this would never have happened. You might argue he had Edward from his third wife Jane Seymour BUT there is enough evidence to suggest that Henry was the carrier of a particular gene...it meant all first borns were ok...second baby died. It happened to him all the time. Last I heard someone wanted to dig him up to prove this theory. 6 wives...countless mistresses and a bunch of stillbirths and miscarriages from them all.
Perhaps King Henry was the reason why he couldn’t produce a lot of sons 🤔😂🤦🏽♀️👀The same “daughter” he looked his nose down on went on to be the strongest Queen of that era…. Henry was a true narcissist, blaming everyone but him ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽 Bye King Henry
You missed one huge detail. After Edward died his sister Mary Tudor was crowned queen and proceeded to go on a years-long mission of burning every protestant she could find. They called her bloody Mary. After she failed to produce an heir and was dying, she named her half sister Elizabeth as her successor. It's very important to get your facts straight before making these videos!
History wasn't kind to poor Mary. No one mentions that it was considered a duty for catholics to burn heretics back then. The idea was that letting them live would damn your own soul. She most likely truly believed she was doing the right thing.
Lets be fair, xomment posters. The content creator did not forget about Queen Mary. No Catholic monarchs may rule England. Per decree of Henry VIII. Mary was not the head of the Church of England, thus can be ignored by history as a legitimate Queen of England. (revisionist history by ( Edited) "Weird History" ).
Um, no. After Edward died, it was their sister, Mary, who took over as Queen of England. She would reign for five years as Bloody Mary, and only then would Elizabeth become queen.

I remember Paul Lynde on the Hollywood squares, when asked the question what was the real reason Henry VIII had his wife Anne Boleyn killed?
When he found out he wasn’t Henry the First!😅
Starting ANOTHER Weird History sequence!

#2: "At the beginning of the 20th century, chicken à la king was the pinnacle of upscale comfort food in New York City." - (kitchenencounters)
I went to London last year and was fascinated by The Tower of London and the burial in Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula of Anne and Katherine Howard. Always loved The Tudor Era. Of course, I had to see SIX in the West End!
Henry's codpieces!! I couldn't stop laughing...
King Henry's Fidei Defensor title is Given same year as Ferdinand Magellan's expedition in the Philippine Islands 1521.
Today he would be considered a psychopath.
Hey Larry! Elizabeth is sailing the seas of cheese! 6:19
Technically, Henry and Catherine DID have a son - Henry, Duke of Cornwall. He only lived a few months, but he was born alive and would have been Henry IX if he'd lived.
1 question
I know it is a literature story
but is it true about the story of the kind Edward that he went and found a boy who looked like him and they exchanged the roles for 1 day ?
I saw it from a documentry on TV like 10 years ago or more
and since I found by chance this channel first on snapchat
and then I looked it up on youtube
so this story came up
so I asked you about it
is it true? about The Prince and the Pauper thing
Man I'd love to see how this guy would handle my gf 😂
Ok you got the ending wrong according to history…
Remember Anne Belen.
You call yourself a history channel and you completely skipped Mary, who was Queen after Edward and before Elizabeth - whoops!
This channel gets a lot of history wrong and usually discusses history from a very serious slant.
@10:01 - Curious to know what the general public believe about spells, black magic, witchcraft, etc. There are still covens of witches in Romania.
Thank you for this! 👸 #WeirdHistory #KingHenryVIII #AnneBoleyn

It wasn't Henry who had the gene, it was Anne.
Perhaps King Henry was the reason why he couldn’t produce a lot of sons 🤔😂🤦🏽♀️👀The same “daughter” he looked his nose down on went on to be the strongest Queen of that era….
Henry was a true narcissist, blaming everyone but him ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽
Bye King Henry
Y’all spelled “Arthur” wrong 😂
Cough...after Edward came 'Bloody Mary' (Catherine of Aragon's daughter)....when she croaked Elizabeth became queen.
Double cough...after Edward died, they had the 9 days of queen Jane, and then Mary...

Most Normal Relationship
One man was called Henry. All the rest were Thomas.
Mary became queen after Edward. Well there was the nine day queen in between, but her head rolled. Elizabeth was after her elder half sister Mary
How did you get the end wrong? After Edward’s death, Mary became Queen. Elizabeth I didn’t become Queen until Mary’s death.
And he opened his eyes in hell.🤔
All the king's money and all the king's men..😮😮😮😮😮😮
Um, no. After Edward died, it was their sister, Mary, who took over as Queen of England. She would reign for five years as Bloody Mary, and only then would Elizabeth become queen.
Weird Annery
One of my favorite track. From Rick Wakeman.
Very inaccurate. One might as well watch "The Tudor's ", if they want a pop culture view of history. At least that had great production value.
Didn’t Lady Jane Grey and Mary I take over after Edward?
Video would be awesome if it corrected itself about Edward leaving the crown to Jane Grey. The ending is a huge inaccuracy
