David, I just saw this but the reason why your voice effects weren't so great was because under the "FX ON" switch to turn them on and off, there is a level adjuster for those effects on how much it would adjust your voice. Turn it all the way up and I am sure you will have a great time!

I used a smaller version (only 2 mic pres) of this mixer for several years, until it got caught in the rain on an outdoor gig and went belly up. The only thing I didn't like so much about it was the preamps were crazy sensitive to input gain and would distort badly the second the peak light turned on, ie, not much headroom....I replaced it with a small Mackie mixer that's quite a bit more forgiving in this area. The Yamaha does sound really good as long as you are careful not to hit the pres too hard though....
Ordered one of these to replace my Behringer UMC22. So excited to get this since I'd love to have the FX plus the EQ and compressor built into the hardware rather than messing with VSTs in software.
I got this mixer about 6 months ago and it’s great. I use it and also a focusrite 2i2 interface combined into garage band and I can’t fault it for the price. Like you I was also using the Behringer mixer prior. Not yo much wrong with those either but the Yamaha is definitely a step up. Cheers.
Hey there. I'm thinking about buying one of these because my profx8v2 shot out. Can you tell me please, with this mixer can I hear audio from my other tracks and record just my vocals? The profxv3 you can't. Whatever goes in, also goes out to the DAW. I like being able to monitor the audio on the computer, and be able to either have it record in a mix at the same time, or monitor the other tracks and only record my mic. Many thanks for your time.
I bought one. Use it for a Live Duo, it’s more than I need, No problems with it, It doesn’t have the standard electrical cord,it has a proprietary elec cord only made for this machine that has a screw in lock to it, at first I was like uh oh, no spare…but I have learned to like it..

Thank you David. I just purchased the MX and am loving it. Best home studio mixer I’ve owned so far. While I intend on trying the MX’s USB, I was wondering if you had any thoughts on running the MX outputs to a Focusrite or similar preamp. Does it make sense to double up preamps?
from what i'm gathering, the fx knob on each channel is what's used to enable (and modify the intensity) of the effects, but does that knob also redirect the channel to the fx output for a potential mix minus setup? and do the effects get applied to just the fx send output or simultaneously to both that and the main output? I want to be able to send my mic audio to two separate devices so I was wondering if I could use the mic channel's fx knob to send my mic audio to both the main mix and the fx send, being able to apply sound effects to my voice to both devices would be a bonus if it works like that.
Awesome review! With regards to only being able to have one channel output through the USB interface to your DAW (it certainly works on Logic Pro X, but i assume it would work with other DAWs such as Pro Tools and Ableton etc) when you are creating your different tracks for recording, you can select input 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 depending on which channels you are using on the mixer. This then corresponds to which channel output you are recording from the mixer. So for example, if you had a vocal mic in channel 1 on your mixer, then when creating the track in your DAW you would select 'Input 1'. If you then had a guitar in channel 2 and a bass in channel 3 on your mixer you would create 2 more tracks, one set to 'Input 2' and the other set to 'Input 3'. This would then enable you to arm all the different tracks to record simultaneously and have multiple channel output from the one input device, in this case the Yamaha MG10XU. Hope this helps you or anyone else looking to do this, and like i said, awesome review. Really helpful in choosing a new desk to get. I am too myself looking to replace my USB MIDI audio interface with a usb desk. Interested in the Yamaha MG20XU as i will also be using it for gigs and live events. Cheers! :)

Hi mate, I really like your review on this one, very professional. Im setting up a mini studio at home. At the mo I only have a pair of Yamaha monitors, a Mac pro (with Ableton and Pro tools) and a Allen Heath 2 channel mixer. All together is all all have (no much money available) to start with. My question is : Is it worth buying one of those and use it instead of the Allen heath mixer ? I mean does it enhance the sound quality ? If so, lemme know cos I buy it and carry on using the Allen Heath along with my pair of turntables. Thanks a lot . Serdj
This is if you want to do two things in one... For the best audio quality you are best using a Audio interface like Presonus or something. This give reasonable audio quality and its a mixer, so its good at both. if you need both. It only has one output channel aswell which is not optimal if you want to record guitar and vox for instance

I use a double (R/L)- 1/4 inch speaker out adaptor from mixer to a headphone/spliter adaptor for a tablet to a headphone type c adapter for my tablet. Then i record live singing mix from mixer with tablet 4k camera beautiful sound and video recording with a tablet.so yes you can do a professionally sounding/looking podcast or singing video using your phone/tablet with this mixer
Hi.. I have this mixer but for some reason my meter level isn't working.. I connected two active speakers through xlr output and i got a sound but not meter level.. Any advice? Thanks
This is not a good interface for the price so don't get it if you're only into home recording. Think of it as a live mixer with recording capabilities if you're in a pinch. I'm a drummer and this MG10-XU limits me to two mono mics on my kit 👎. Get it if you want to mix live sound in your rehearsals or if you want to organize a complicated setup for a live show 👍 👍. I use it for my multi-instrument setup; I send my SPD-SX, vocals plus processor, acoustic/DI straight into this mixer, already mixed how I like it (pretty good EQ for the price) and that goes straight to the sound guy via one mono XLR. It sounds great at every venue and it saves a lot of set-up time. I keep a set of headphones plugged in to the monitor output during shows and if I cant hear myself I just throw those on. If I didn't use a mixer like this on stage the sound guy would have to mix all my shit and he wouldn't know what I'm going for without hearing the record. This is great for plug-n-play if you want things to move quickly and sound great. (Practice that before you do a show tho seriously)
Do you still have it? im trying to decide between this an the a&h zed10 or soundcraft efx8. I like this one for the size. From fx the efx is a great deal! good vibes
I have a Bose T4S mixer and a Yamaha MG10XUF. The Yamaha MG10XUF is the same as the MG10XU but has slide bars not dials at the bottom. Now I dont seem to get the same performance compared to the Bose T4S from the Yamaha. I suspect its two things. The Bose is a better product or I am not using the Yamaha correctly. I have a friend who runs a karaoke bar and he has told me the Yamaha isnt any good. Any thoughts. I use my Mixers for Karaoke and hook the yamaha up to a Bose Compact PA system?
Great video, and I'm considering it.. However, I am confused about the individuality of the channels.. For example, if I have delay on a channel 1 mic, is it going to also affect all the other channels as well? Is it also going to also cause delay on the guitar channel? Or could I have 1 mic channel with delay, one mic channel with chorus, and a clean guitar channel? Thanks.
It means if you use an FX this will over all the channels the same or you can chose it individually separated? Example first channel reverb only the second delay only etc? BTW very informative video thank you 🙏
@@KOZZMIKBABA each channel seems to have an FX knob - it looks like you can only set one effect but you can turn that one effect dry/wet on each channel individually
How do you keep the gain so high? do you not get feedback? do the comp knob keep the feedback out? I’m just learning. I have one for Karaoke and the gain cause feedback.
You are best off setting the gain levels on the channel to the recommended level not pushing them to hard and just turning up the volume of the master or your amp
Great review. Definitely looking at the MG12U or MG16U. The Behringers are definitely cheaper and seem to have more features but Yamaha's quality reputation and the fact that MG mixers seem very well designed and although it has less features--the ones they have a genuinely usable--sold it for me.
what was the issue on the behringer? it does hace a Phone output marked for monitoring yourself.. I was planning to get that one but if its funky i keep looking..
I just receive my MG12XU which is very similar to the MG10XU, the problem I am having is when I use the USB it plays for few seconds and then it stops, the input source still going but mixer stop working, any idea what could be the problem?

In your video I noticed you were using analog output to another device. What device were you using to capture it in the computer?
Yes I have, You do need to use a lot of gain on the microphone channel, really not optimal... I am exporting straight into the computer vis USB in this clip
If i use a condenser microphone on line 1, does that mean I can’t use input 2,3 and 4 with dynamic microphones or guitars etc? Basically making 2,3 and 4 useless?
Is there a way to use this mixer and mute the mic monitor but still listen to Input 5/6 or Input 7/8? Those are my consoles for streaming but I don't want to hear myself speaking into the mic.
DID YOU MEAN "USB INTERFACE" (at 6:50s) Second time thru and I realize you could not have meant MIDI INTERFACE. When you are saying there are only two channels out - divided I guess into monitor and main and headphone. Is that right? Sounds right. -BR
Yes and no, you can't apply different fx on different channels, but you can choose which channels the effect you selected is applied to by turning the "Fx" knob.
Hi david can you please do a detail setup for MG10XU. I was not able to find the driver for mac 10.13.5 high seirra at first. there are some barriers to cross. so please would you be able to do a setup for logic pro x. Thanks.

Can you hook up an Android Smartphone to the Yamaha MG10XU Mixer for the purpose of recording (with software on PC of course) a two-way phone conversation for a podcast? If the answer is yes, what would the connections be on this Mixing Board?
It's not rocket science but quite simple, really: if you record stereo and include that stereo track in your video, you get stereo. Interestingly, UA-camrs with poor recording setups might get stereo sound from the built-in microphones of their camera or smartphone, whereas more seasoned UA-camrs use a single microphone and record in mono, but with otherwise better sound quality (unless they use poor noise reduction, in which case it can sound worse). I like recording in stereo myself, so I have been using handheld field recorders for my videos, first a Zoom 4Hn and now the Sony PCM D-100.

yeah you could plug two audio ins and have a single audio out if that is what you are wanting. (you can have 10 audio ins to 1 stereo audio out). sorry it took a week
I use this mixer for Dj'ing. I use my laptop through the USB channel. I had to stop that though because every now and then I would get some really annoying interference. Sounded like aliens were landing or something. Almost like someone scratching a record. I'm unsure whether it's a problem with the mixer or whether it's a soundcard conflict with my laptop. Had any issues like this?
Hi mate, good video. Got one of these for Christmas, super awesome. Have microphone going in and have two stereo inputs in 5/6 (PC Audio) and 6/7 (PC Chat audio). What is the best way to just send microphone audio without all the other inputs sending back to PC? Thanks
Unplug PC audio, plug into your computer via usb (Doesn't come with cable) select usb on channel 9/10 the computer audio will come in via usb (make sure its your audio out on your pc/mac in settings) and then will enable you to use your monitors outs to monitor (Without pc audio, while still having pc audio in headphones/monitors). hope that helps
Cheers man! I see what you mean. But can I keep one input from PC (Have 2, one from external soundcard for Discord and other from standard audio such as games). This means I can adjust these both on the fly so turn group chat up or game down etc. But obviously I will still have one input going into the mixer. I am seriously thinking about this mixer, got a question though, I am using Scarlett focusrite 2i2 so can I run the mixer into the interface ??? I do alot of home studio recording , singer / songwriter here. I also am wondering say if I wanna do a song on the acoustic facebook live, guitar/vocals can this be used for that if so how would i set up the mixer for that ? I have played alot of instruments, I use Mixcraft 7 DAW but the one thing I have never played with was a mixer . . . BTW great video, you did a real good presentation on this much thanks :)
It offers a lot more that a stand alone interface. One huge benefit if that the first two channels come with compression on them. All four of the mic input channels have their own individual gains as well. Plus EQ's for each channel. The effects on it are very nice as well, mostly for any vocals or acoustically mic'ed instruments, like a guitar or ukulele for example.
Mike Meier yes, you could mic your guitar and use any of the first four inputs. The first two with compression is more for vocals, but you would have no issues running them into 1 and 2.
You couls use the auxiliary output or the headphone output, instead of the general stereo output Edit: nvm, only with the headphone output, the aux is from the 12 channel models and up (mg12xu - that model is a lot more versatile)
I'm having trouble setting up the USB to windows and getting it to play. I've gotten the updates of drivers etc, changed the audio in the PC from PC to MG10XU for playback and recording. Cannot get it to work. What am I missing?
It doesn't come with the USB cable right? First thing I would do is double check it with another cable. If it still is not working, (on channel strip 9/10) make sure you have button "to mon/to sterio" pushed down if your speakers are out of the main sterio outs, or make sure it is up if you have headphones pluged in and turn up the monitor volume. Make sure you have "line/usb"pushed down. Then take it back?
David Jonathon I took it back. I tried other USB cables, ports, watched UA-cam, read forums until I found other people with my problem. ended up getting a Scarlett 2i4
Thanks, the answer is USB out puts all ten channels into 1 stereo mix that you can record. Can not record 10 channels at the same time separately. If that makes sense

The answer to that is no all the yamahas are stereo out via usb. And you need to spend a lot more money if you want simultaneous multitrack recording. Let me know if you find something cheap.
uh, i hope it did. i found ZooM's R16 that offers Multi-tracking upto 8 inputs. But has only two 6.5mm outputs and a headphone out. an over all good product, priced higher than the YAMAHA MG10XU. but not the type of board i want.
Depends what you want to do, if you want 2 channels recording in your daw at the same time use the 6i6. If you are happy with one channel recording and HEAPS more options FX,EQ,Comp use the yamaha

Oops, this has no MIDI interface feature. I think you're getting MIDI confused with audio.

yeah, this is flat out false btw. Just got this in the mail. Only 2 outputs... Have to pan each channel for them to record separately

When doing a Pod cast can you mute the main Mic and still keep the mic's on for the guest.
Hi.. I have this mixer but for some reason my meter level isn't working.. I connected two active speakers through xlr output and i got a sound but not meter level.. Any advice? Thanks
This is not a good interface for the price so don't get it if you're only into home recording. Think of it as a live mixer with recording capabilities if you're in a pinch. I'm a drummer and this MG10-XU limits me to two mono mics on my kit 👎. Get it if you want to mix live sound in your rehearsals or if you want to organize a complicated setup for a live show 👍 👍. I use it for my multi-instrument setup; I send my SPD-SX, vocals plus processor, acoustic/DI straight into this mixer, already mixed how I like it (pretty good EQ for the price) and that goes straight to the sound guy via one mono XLR. It sounds great at every venue and it saves a lot of set-up time. I keep a set of headphones plugged in to the monitor output during shows and if I cant hear myself I just throw those on. If I didn't use a mixer like this on stage the sound guy would have to mix all my shit and he wouldn't know what I'm going for without hearing the record. This is great for plug-n-play if you want things to move quickly and sound great. (Practice that before you do a show tho seriously)

I have a Bose T4S mixer and a Yamaha MG10XUF. The Yamaha MG10XUF is the same as the MG10XU but has slide bars not dials at the bottom. Now I dont seem to get the same performance compared to the Bose T4S from the Yamaha. I suspect its two things. The Bose is a better product or I am not using the Yamaha correctly. I have a friend who runs a karaoke bar and he has told me the Yamaha isnt any good. Any thoughts. I use my Mixers for Karaoke and hook the yamaha up to a Bose Compact PA system?

Great video, and I'm considering it.. However, I am confused about the individuality of the channels.. For example, if I have delay on a channel 1 mic, is it going to also affect all the other channels as well? Is it also going to also cause delay on the guitar channel? Or could I have 1 mic channel with delay, one mic channel with chorus, and a clean guitar channel? Thanks.
It means if you use an FX this will over all the channels the same or you can chose it individually separated? Example first channel reverb only the second delay only etc? BTW very informative video thank you 🙏

@@KOZZMIKBABA each channel seems to have an FX knob - it looks like you can only set one effect but you can turn that one effect dry/wet on each channel individually
Jahmo is right. Each channel has their own knob for their own effects. So you can turn them on or off.
Is this good for a home radio station broadcasting? And is is phantom powered?
How do you keep the gain so high? do you not get feedback? do the comp knob keep the feedback out? I’m just learning. I have one for Karaoke and the gain cause feedback.
You are best off setting the gain levels on the channel to the recommended level not pushing them to hard and just turning up the volume of the master or your amp
Great review. Definitely looking at the MG12U or MG16U. The Behringers are definitely cheaper and seem to have more features but Yamaha's quality reputation and the fact that MG mixers seem very well designed and although it has less features--the ones they have a genuinely usable--sold it for me.

I just receive my MG12XU which is very similar to the MG10XU, the problem I am having is when I use the USB it plays for few seconds and then it stops, the input source still going but mixer stop working, any idea what could be the problem?

In your video I noticed you were using analog output to another device. What device were you using to capture it in the computer?
Yes I have, You do need to use a lot of gain on the microphone channel, really not optimal... I am exporting straight into the computer vis USB in this clip

Yes and no, you can't apply different fx on different channels, but you can choose which channels the effect you selected is applied to by turning the "Fx" knob.

no you just need a regular guitar input they are called (1/4 inch jack, trs, 6.3mm) so you will need 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter. Hope that helps.

Hi David, how did you get Stereo audio on UA-cam? I've found some other channels don't have it.
It's not rocket science but quite simple, really: if you record stereo and include that stereo track in your video, you get stereo.
Interestingly, UA-camrs with poor recording setups might get stereo sound from the built-in microphones of their camera or smartphone, whereas more seasoned UA-camrs use a single microphone and record in mono, but with otherwise better sound quality (unless they use poor noise reduction, in which case it can sound worse).
I like recording in stereo myself, so I have been using handheld field recorders for my videos, first a Zoom 4Hn and now the Sony PCM D-100.

yeah you could plug two audio ins and have a single audio out if that is what you are wanting. (you can have 10 audio ins to 1 stereo audio out). sorry it took a week

I use this mixer for Dj'ing. I use my laptop through the USB channel. I had to stop that though because every now and then I would get some really annoying interference. Sounded like aliens were landing or something. Almost like someone scratching a record. I'm unsure whether it's a problem with the mixer or whether it's a soundcard conflict with my laptop. Had any issues like this?

Got one of these for Christmas, super awesome. Have microphone going in and have two stereo inputs in 5/6 (PC Audio) and 6/7 (PC Chat audio). What is the best way to just send microphone audio without all the other inputs sending back to PC?

Unplug PC audio, plug into your computer via usb (Doesn't come with cable) select usb on channel 9/10 the computer audio will come in via usb (make sure its your audio out on your pc/mac in settings) and then will enable you to use your monitors outs to monitor (Without pc audio, while still having pc audio in headphones/monitors). hope that helps
Cheers man! I see what you mean. But can I keep one input from PC (Have 2, one from external soundcard for Discord and other from standard audio such as games). This means I can adjust these both on the fly so turn group chat up or game down etc. But obviously I will still have one input going into the mixer. Can I stop one of the inputs going into the mixer from going back into the PC? Thanks for your help :)

I am seriously thinking about this mixer, got a question though, I am using Scarlett focusrite 2i2 so can I run the mixer into the interface ??? I do alot of home studio recording , singer / songwriter here. I also am wondering say if I wanna do a song on the acoustic facebook live, guitar/vocals can this be used for that if so how would i set up the mixer for that ? I have played alot of instruments, I use Mixcraft 7 DAW but the one thing I have never played with was a mixer . . . BTW great video, you did a real good presentation on this much thanks :)
You could, but this is an interface as it stands. USB output on back.

It offers a lot more that a stand alone interface. One huge benefit if that the first two channels come with compression on them. All four of the mic input channels have their own individual gains as well. Plus EQ's for each channel. The effects on it are very nice as well, mostly for any vocals or acoustically mic'ed instruments, like a guitar or ukulele for example.

Mike Meier yes, you could mic your guitar and use any of the first four inputs. The first two with compression is more for vocals, but you would have no issues running them into 1 and 2.

You couls use the auxiliary output or the headphone output, instead of the general stereo output
Edit: nvm, only with the headphone output, the aux is from the 12 channel models and up (mg12xu - that model is a lot more versatile)

I'm having trouble setting up the USB to windows and getting it to play. I've gotten the updates of drivers etc, changed the audio in the PC from PC to MG10XU for playback and recording. Cannot get it to work. What am I missing?
It doesn't come with the USB cable right? First thing I would do is double check it with another cable. If it still is not working, (on channel strip 9/10) make sure you have button "to mon/to sterio" pushed down if your speakers are out of the main sterio outs, or make sure it is up if you have headphones pluged in and turn up the monitor volume. Make sure you have "line/usb"pushed down. Then take it back?

Thanks, the answer is USB out puts all ten channels into 1 stereo mix that you can record. Can not record 10 channels at the same time separately. If that makes sense

I've done quite a few research and found only MG10XU and MG12XU.

The answer to that is no all the yamahas are stereo out via usb. And you need to spend a lot more money if you want simultaneous multitrack recording. Let me know if you find something cheap.

i found ZooM's R16 that offers Multi-tracking upto 8 inputs. But has only two 6.5mm outputs and a headphone out. an over all good product, priced higher than the YAMAHA MG10XU. but not the type of board i want.

Depends what you want to do, if you want 2 channels recording in your daw at the same time use the 6i6. If you are happy with one channel recording and HEAPS more options FX,EQ,Comp use the yamaha
