My wife got me this same mixer last Christmas... Great information, I learned something new... and your video is better than the instruction booklet...
Hello Friend, thanks for the tutorial, it has been very helpful, now I have a question, I have a microphone connected on channel 9/10 with usb output, how can I add more volume since when I make the video the volume is only very low if you could help me Thank you
I've owned a Yamaha MG10XU mixer for years. I use it in my studio, gigged with it, recorded with it and it always performs well. Soon I will be looking for a mixer just for the studio now that gigging season has resumed and the MG10XU will be busy. Based on your 2-part tutorial, the MG12XU seems like just what I need.
I have been using the MG10XU for 8 years. I just upgraded to the 12XU and would have been lost without your videos. Thank you GLB Productions. Thank you
Hi. I'm know you have heard this a million times, but here is a million and one :) Thank you sooooooooooooooo much for such indepth videos. I can't believe the time you take to explain what the reason is for how or why you certain connections and what inputs/outputs to use and why.....etc. You are INCREDIBLE!!! I just purchased the VGM14 Yorkville Mixer Board and I am going to connect two mains, two monitors and a single sub woofer to it. Should be interesting....lol. Thank you so much again!!!!
Aloha from Hawaii.......I had just purchased this mixer together with the Yamaha Powered Speakers and Subwoofer. Reading the owner's manual gets me in the forest where I get lost. Your video tutorial on how to operate this mixer is wonderful....very easy to understand. I will now test out the full system. As we say here in Hawaii.....Mahalo (Thank you)!
You're welcome Adrian. Remember that there is no substitute for in-person training - the retailer who you purchase the mixer from should be able to provide training that is specific to your needs, or recommend somebody who can provide such training in your area.
Just purchased MG12XU and this tutorial gave me best insight to start my Mixing journey. I cannot thank you enough. I will be using it for my DJ Gig. Will be connecting via Channel 9-10 using the RCA and will use Channel 1-2 for my microphone controls. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your valuable insight especially with the FX controls for the mic.
Thank you for this and your other tutorials! I'm using this mixer for live gigs with two vocalists with one also playing acoustic guitar and the other playing fiddle, four mono-inputs total. The main Stereo Out goes to a Peavey XR-560 Powered Mixer that drives a pair of Peavey 112TLS passive speakers. And I send a shared monitor mix out of Aux1 to a Yamaha DBR 12 powered monitor on stage. But I've made a few mistakes setting up the monitor mix and wanted to share. While the Channel Aux1 knobs are switched to Pre-Fader and the Aux1 Send Master is independent, in order to get FX routed to the FX Block Aux1 Pre knob, the post-fader Channel Aux2/FX knobs have to be set, the Channels On and their Faders set. In other words, there has to be signal going the FX Block via the Channel Aux2/FX knobs before there's any FX Aux1 Pre to mix into Aux1. That may be obvious to more experienced users, but for a time I didn't understand why I couldn't get any FX to Aux1.
Brilliant tutorial! Made me purchased the mixer through my local online store. Just had a couple of days learning it with this channel and was really in-depth compared to the manual. Thank you very much for this educational video. More power to your channel!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your video(s)have been very helpful. Explaining verbally and pointing to mixer knobs was awesome! My fears of approaching this Yamaha mixer have been eliminated!
I have the MG12XU, MG10XU and the Mackie ProFX10v3. The topics explained here go well past the information presented in any of the manuals and can be applied to multiple mixers. I really appreciate the practical examples presented; this made understanding the concept(s) much easier. Thank you.
A Lion you are a Lion Absolutely a Killer with no exception I noticed you don't have a single Dislike button This is how it was done RIGHT MA MEN SHHHHHHHH WOW I love it you Need a TIP JAR SET UP here I can't imagine how Awesome this tutor is. I have had this Yamaha mixer at church for 5 years and I did a trial and error method that I gave up with a little hope holding that one day I will get it right . and YOU MADE MY DAY. Thank YOU I will pay for this for your time to teach us, for the level that you care, because it is worth it. True Def of CARE & LOVE a passion to share the knowledge you pass on because you are worth it.
Dear GLB, thanks for this high-quality tutorial. I wanted to report my experience with USB interface with MG10XUF. Using a regular Windows 10 pc without drivers installed I experienced glitches and anomalous behaviour in audio playback from PC. All this problems were solved installing the tiny driver package supplied by Yamaha, which also allows to setup the sampling rate of playback and recording. So I would recommend to install the drivers anyway, even if it apparently works.
I had this unit for over 2 years and never understood how to use it correctly until it broke down. I sent it for repair cause the sound was just terrible but after 3 times they said it was beyond repair and they offer me a credit for the same amount I first purchased this unit at which I think I was sweet. Anyway I watched both videos and as soon as I get my new unit I will be able to make more of it. Yhanks for the video. 😁👍
So far the most informative, well put and well explained tutorial ever. I am gland I bumped into this channel. I am loaded with knolwdge. Thanks for making me feel like the big man in soud engineering
Sir. Your explanations are fantastic. Clear. Concise. I applaud you and I thank you for your time. I have learned more on these first two videos about my mixer that I have from any other source
@@GLBProductions thank u too. By the way if u can spare me few minutes. Suppose I want to buy a mixer to be used in a high school for small concerts and stuff. Should I go with the 12/16/20 channel?
It depends - you need to do an analysis of your current and future needs and work out which is best. More channels is more flexible, but the mixer gets bigger and heavier. Look at your current (pre-pandemic) gigs and see how many channels you used on average and then add at least 50% for future expansion.
wonderful again.. . pl make detailed video reg usb low sound issue of yamaha mg10xu with a live demonstration... it will help lot many people.. regards n thx 🌹🌹🌹
100% detailed best tutorial ❤Very thankful Sir since I'm newly operating MG16XU at church i have learned every knobs effects from you., appreciate it❤i would still love to learn how to operate DYNACORD L1800FD and church sound system setup if that's possible.
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I learned a lot on how to use this mixer properly. I have been a big fan of Yamaha mixer and this tutorial furthered my knowledge using all the features of this mixer. I just want to ask about the live stage monitor for I did not understand well. You mentioned the monitor output is not intend to be used for stage monitor, so where do I connect the live stage monitor and which knob will control the volume? Thank you again and more power to your site!
This tutorial was phenomenal and I learned a lot, as our church bought this mixer a year ago and we love it. Seeing this video helped me understand why we are having audio looping issues when we try to stream and record music played back via a laptop. Does anyone have a good workaround so we can play music with one laptop and stream/record with another using this mixer?
Very simple: on the playback laptop, connect it to one of the stereo line level inputs and route it to the main LR output in the normal manner. On the recording laptop, connect it to the USB input/output, and make sure that the USB input channel (11/12) on the mixer is switched OFF and/or the channel fader is all the way down. This will prevent the looping issue you describe above.
@@GLBProductions I will follow this advice this evening and see how it goes, but I am so appreciative of the quick response, that I have watched part one, and will eventually watch all three parts of the MG20XU series, and subscribed to your UA-cam channel. Bless you sir!
Thank you sooooo much! Im an amateur dj, and I just got this and wanted to learn how I could use it in other ways, and this has made my lie 10 times easier!
Excellent lesson. Thank you. I would appreciate also a part three where a recording from an instrument using a DAW and the mixer would be demonstrated.
This was really helpful. I am still confused as to how to get full STAGE monitors using the aux outputs. Seems I only have the use of aux 1. Can you please explain? Thanks a million!
Hi. I have a feeling that there are many owners of the Yamaha MG 12 to 20 series mixers who would also be interested in how to connect their outboard/external modules (Compressors, multi effects etc.) to either a single channel or chain of channels including stereo due to the fact that the Yamaha has no insert points. Therefore, I would be very grateful (others too) if you could possibly make a UA-cam video on this subject. Again thanks for the great work you do. With kind regards Peter
Everything great 🤗🤗 But ...wich output must to be used for stage monitoring. You said only for studio monitoring . Thank you very much for explanation.
I have connected via usb but trying to play karaoke and sing but quality is not coming great bec voice or music crisis . Any way can post the computer side sound setup snd any wire line out to line in the best way to connect to get quality out out on streaming . Would appreciate your comments or suggestions suggestions
Thanks for the great tutorials! very easy to understand, I have a question regarding the RCA jacks on channels 9/10 I was simply using them to play tunes from my phone (the only cables I had were the RCA to iPhone jack) anyway my question is is it normal that I can only get sound output from them if I have the PFL on ? it seems having the channel off or on makes no difference & I only get sound if the PFL is on when using the RCA .. thanks!
Hellooo.. Bruno..🥰😘🎙 can i use the condenser mic and normal mic while at the same time thru different channel of course. Someone told me when phantom 48v pressed it can damage the normal microphone. Thanks. 🎶
Helloooo... 😄 No, there is no problem with doing this as long as all mics have balanced outputs - dynamic mics like the SM57/58 ignore phantom power and are not damaged by it. Also, don't plug and unplug mics with the phantom on, as it will cause loud bangs and pops through your PA system.
hello. Very helpful video. Yamaha should pay you, or at least feature your 2-part video series on their site, as you speak very concisely and it’s easy to follow along. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work.
What a great tutorial I have ever watched Mr. Bruno. Thank you so much. I would like to connect my Lexicon 400 to this mixer but having hard time. I connected the inputs of the Lexicon to Aux1 and Aux2 of the mixer. However, I don’t know where to connect the outputs of the Lexicon to the mixer because it doesn’t have Stereo Return. Please help. 🙏.
Hi Chung, I suggest you watch my tutorial on this subject: ua-cam.com/video/GoIiofqEIyU/v-deo.html You don't need a stereo return - you can use any stereo channel or even two mono channels as FX returns :)
Thank you for the excellent tutorial, I learned a lot. I need to connect a Radial Engineering Exo-Pod mult box which has a balanced line level XLR input. What output and type of cable do you suggest for this connection? I am using the 1/4 stereo outputs to a poweramp.
Use the same general procedure as in this video: ua-cam.com/video/GoIiofqEIyU/v-deo.html However on the MG12XU you would use aux 2 as the send and return to any of the stereo channels. You wouldn't be able to use the internal FX in this case.
Hello, thank you so much for a such a detail video. I hope you're still checking and replying to comments on this video. I have a question regarding how to connect an external FX/EQ to the board. I want to use an EQ to control the feedback from the Mic. Can you please do a video or provide a diagram/instruction on how to connect the EQ to the board? Thank you very much in advance.
You're welcome! This mixer has no insert points, so the EQ would need to be connected between the mixer and your amplifier/powered speakers. See this video here: ua-cam.com/video/RLf8jXGtF8w/v-deo.html
Great tutorials, many thanks. Couple questions re MG12XU: We're needing inputs for 3 active acoustic guitars and 1 electric guitar (Stratocaster with a 9V battery) and 4 mics. When we exhaust channels 1-4, can we use 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12? If yes, I'd like the mic or instrument to come out of both left and right speakers. Is that possible? If we don't achieve stereo separation, it won't matter much in a noisy bar setting. Can we use 1/4" unbalanced cables for the guitars and even the mics? For example: could 2 acoustic guitars plug into channel 5 and 6 respectively? Each of these guitars has a volume output control on the guitar. Would each guitar be heard on both PA speakers? Or, would it be better to plug those guitars into channels 9/10 and reserve 5/6 for mics thereby preserving the gain and EQ controls for the mics? (We have 2 SM-58 BETA mics, so they should have similar gain setting specs.) Thank you very much in advance for any help you may have.
Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. Channels 5/6 and 7/8 will allow you to connect a mono source using a 1/4" cable, but 9/10 and 11/12 will not. Also, 9/10 and 11/12 are line level only and do not have a gain control, so the guitars may not have sufficient level to drive these inputs on their own. You can use 1/4" unbalanced cables for the guitars - for the mics I recommend using XLR cables if the mic has an XLR output. If you plug one guitar into input 5 and another into input 6 the first will go only to the left speaker and the second only to the right speaker, but they will share the same fader, which is not ideal. It sounds to me like you would be better off getting a larger mixer 😄
Hi, Thank you so much for the tutorials. Your Part 3 tutorial is using the MG20XU. I wanted to learn how to set effects for singing using MG12XU. Do you have a tutorial on that pls.? Tnx
Hello Balwinder, there is no part 3 in the tutorial series for this particular mixer 😉 Setting effects for singing is very much a matter of taste and musical style. I suggest starting with one of the reverbs (FX 1-7) and adding that via the FX RTN fader until it sound unnatural to you. Then reduce the level slightly and experiment from there. There are really no hard and fast rules for this 😄
Hi Bruno! I'm avid subscriber of yours, really enjoying your tutorials, they are very eloquent and informative. -- I have a Drum setup that includes 12+- microphones connected to a Focusrite 18i20 Plus Focusrite OctoPre MkII. (16 XLR) My drumset is a Pearl VBX Birch 2011. (DW 5.5" x 14" maple collectors snare added later) My microphones are: 1x Audio-Technica ATM350D for the snare 5x Audio-Technica Pro35 for the toms 1x RODE NT4 for overheads (stereo mic) 2x Audio-Technica MB4 Condenser Cardioid (side mics) 1x Audio Technica mb 6k for in-side kick 1x Shure SM57 for outer kick. 1x Roland SPD-SX (optional, 2 XLR) (not connected) 1x optional SM57 as a hi-hat mic (not connected) The recorded kit sounds good to my ears even with no mixing/effects applied to it in post but I'm lacking the knowledge on how to mix my drums in my DAW...More specifically how to use my plugins, (Compressor, Reverb, EQ, Mastering) Which plugins are used for snare, with which order and such. It would be (AWESOME!!!!!) nice if you consider a tutorial(s) on mixing drums, mix placements and all the info you can throw at us about mixing drums. I've made a little video describing the current sound I'm getting with my drums setup, please take a listen ua-cam.com/video/uQ8yJwUDQtY/v-deo.html Thank you Sir. - Drumvisio
Hello Ofer! Thank you for the comment and thank you for taking the time to make the video. I agree with you that your drums sound great. As I have mentioned in several of my videos, I'm not a recording engineer and would never pretend to be one 😄 All of my professional experience is in live sound, where the approach to mixing drums tends to be somewhat simplified, due to the number of channels available and the fact that the acoustic sound from the drumkit contributes very significantly to our mix decisions. Likewise, the use of effects and other types of processing is much more limited than in the studio. I suggest that you seek out a recording engineer - they will be much better placed to advise you on this topic. All the best with your music 😊
@@GLBProductions Thank you very much Bruno, If there was one person I could listen to explaining just about anything,... it was you. You're perfect teacher and a great friend. Thanks!
I had to watch the section on the gain structure for channels 5/6 twice to make sense of it. It does make sense but I don't use this function enough to have a feel for it. That is why I like your videos, the information is there but one might need to watch it more than once. (This is more about my own lack of experience with mixers than any issues with the video).
Great vid. Can you use the AUX 2 1/4 inch connector to run a second separate stage monitor for a second singer that wants their own monitor mix ? Or can you only use AUX 1 and then have to daisy chain monitors together?
Yes you can, but if you do that remember that you cannot really use the internal FX engine due to the duplication of controls. So you can have two monitor mixes or one monitor mix plus the internal effects.
Hi I have a problem connecting the Mg12xu mixer to a dbx266xs processor, and a dbx1231 equalizer and also I got ptu7000 microphone and a pair of EV pa power speakers. Can you show me how? Thank you so much sir. Great video
@@GLBProductions I just don’t know how to connected for example the processor, the equalizer from where to where to the mixer, I got the mixer and the microphone speakers working that about it , the processor and the equalizer is not connected to any thing yet . Thanks for reply back
In this case I suggest you contact the person who sold you the equipment and get them to assist you - it is much easier to explain these things in person and there are several different ways of connecting them.
This mixer has no insert points, so the compressor would need to be connected inline: either between the source and the mixer or between the mixer and the power amplifier.
@@GLBProductionsThanks very much for your rapid reply. Could you please be more precise. For example from which TRS socket on the mixer do I connect the the input signal to the compressor and which socket on the mixer for the return or output signal of the compressor. Again thanks in advance.
You're welcome Peter. What are you trying to achieve: compress a single input or compress the entire mix? Also, what's your application: recording or sound reinforcement? Normal serial compression or parallel compression?
@@GLBProductions I purchased last week a Behringer MDX2600 V2 and would like to compress the Alesis SR18 Drum Machine (Channel 5/6) and also the iPad Channel 9/10 for a live performance. It would also be great if I could compress the vocal channel 1 which is not a priority because the mixer has a built in compressor on this channel, but it would be nice to know if this could also be compressed with my Behringer. Thanks again and really appreciate your advice. Many Greetings from Freiburg in Germany.
Thanks for the info Peter. The challenge here is that you have a stereo compressor with a total of two channels of compression, but would like to compress two stereo signals, a total of four channels. Given the equipment you have, I would connect the MDX2600 in between your mixer and power amplifier or powered loudspeakers - this will allow you to compress the entire mix, including your vocal mic. It won't give you as much control as having compressors on the individual channels but sources such as drum machines and recorded music already have some compression in their signals. It is also a simpler setup which is easier to adjust on the fly during the performance.
Hello from India 🇮🇳!!😇 I would request you to please make more videos...atleast once or twice a month... I see that it's been a year since you post a video with regards to sound. Thank you🙏❤️
Brilliant tutorial, thanks so much for your time. Q; Our band has two guitarist singers at front of stage, each has his own monitor. Would the best way to allow the guitarists to hear vocals be to use Aux 1 routed to first monitor then on to second monitor (daisy chain) or use Aux 1 for one monitor and Aux 2 for the second monitor. Mixer used is MG12XU. The singer guitarists in question to not mind hearing a mix of each others vocals.
In this case I would use aux 1 and daisy-chain the monitors - aux 2 on this mixer is not really designed for use as a monitor send, as it is post-fader and is also shared with the send to the internal effects.
Thanks for watching John. The main benefit to using 1/4" connectors would be the robustness of the connector - RCA connectors are rarely used in pro audio as they tend to fall apart when subjected to heavy use. I cannot see any sonic benefit in this particular case.
Hi Glenn, this mixer does not have FX returns in the traditional sense - if you use an external FX unit you would return into one of the stereo channels.
Thanks for the excellent demonstration and explanation. I have this mixer and been unable to hear my live singing voice along with the music playing thu the laptop connected to the mixer thru the headphone jack. Only the laptop music is heard. Can you please tell me how to listen the mixed sound.
Thanks for watching Kris. Double check that both channels (your mic and the laptop) are switched ON and routed to the ST output, and that both channel and master faders are raised. Finally check that your master ST fader is switched ON.
I ran out of inputs on the MG12XU at an event and had to run a single channel harmonica mic signal to left only on channel 9/10 (chan 9). I was wondering if there is a cheat to get the ch 9 mono signal injected into the right channel for true mono out of the mixer? Maybe using the group 1/2 path and reinserting into channel 10 (or 11/12)?
The only way to do it with channel 9/10 is to split the signal so that both inputs receive the same signal - this can be done with a simple Y-cable and will result in dual mono output from the main outputs.
Question here please. My console behinger doest not has those level faders on the botton with reading decibels. What it has is knobs only and it doest not tells me where is the 0 level reference , so my question is how do I set that at . Also master volume knob, the same think.
Thank you so much for explaining in great details. I am struggling to understand the manual, and your videos help me to have a better understanding of what each port is for. Cheers!
Your videos are very well explained. Thank you for that. I have a question about connecting the mixer to the PC via USB. The sound in both directions is very quiet. Is there an explanation for this? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for watching Hamouda! For the incoming PC signal, make sure that the volume on the computer is still to 100%, and check that the digital attenuator is not reducing the signal - this is accessed by pressing the PROGRAM knob in the FX section five times. For the signal from the mixer to the PC, you can try setting the channel and master faders above the 0dB mark, or raising the level in post-production.
On channel 5/6 or 7/8 is the xlr input stereo in other words can I run 2 xlr from a controler and use a 2 to one splinter and plug the one in and still achive stero
Yes, unlike a TRS connector which can be wired mono balanced or stereo unbalanced, an XLR connector is almost always mono balanced. If you need stereo with XLR connectors you need to use two channels, panned hard left and hard right respectively.
QUESTION: Is it possible to send a wet signal to a monitor connected to the AUX 2 output? Once you connect to the AUX 2 send, the white FX knob in the channel strip becomes AUX 2 volume and there is no AUX2/PRE knob above the FX RETURN fader. Thank you!
I am taking the output of the mixer MG12 from Group out(1) using a 1/4" TRS to a 3.5mm TRS. Then this 3.5mm to My laptop using 3.5mm splitter. The output is muffled in the laptop. At times i have to disconnect the 3.5 mm Jack and reinsert which solves the problem but there is still sound clipping in the laptop. Not able to get a clear sound. Multiple instruments such as a cymbal, drum and singers singing loud. Sound is not distinguishable at loud noises.
It sounds like the 3.5mm splitter and/or the input of the laptop is the problem - I recommend using the USB connection to send audio to the laptop instead.
@@GLBProductions thanks for the reply. But the MG12 does not come with a USB output. Can I try using the USB splitter instead of the 3.5 mm TRRS. The live program link ua-cam.com/video/kCDVuYihMO8/v-deo.html
Oh you're using the old model, ok. In that case get a simple 2-channel USB interface - Steinberg UR22 or equivalent, it will solve so many problems for you. BTW I listened to your video - there is a lot of distortion in your signal, so check your gain settings carefully.
@@GLBProductions I know probably this is a redundant question and still be dumb and ask anyhow. But in MG12 what are all the possible ways to get audio output to my laptop Asus A15, which has a single audio combo jack. I know an USB audio interface would solve the problem but anyhow excluding that?
You can use any of the outputs from the mixer to connect to your laptop, given the right cables/adapters. So main outputs, REC OUT, aux outputs, group outputs can all be used.
Thank you. This is EXTREMELY helpful. I noticed that you said that the usb is a copy of the main output. I am just wondering how I can record vocals over the mix.

Thank you for this and your other tutorials! I'm using this mixer for live gigs with two vocalists with one also playing acoustic guitar and the other playing fiddle, four mono-inputs total.
Yes, you now have a fundamental understanding of how signals are routed within the mixer 😀 Thanks for sharing, glad you got it all working.

You're welcome, that's exactly why I do these videos 😄
Thanks Brook, very glad the video was helpful!
Crystal clear.
All your presentations are fabulous.
Hats off to you dear.
Love from TN, India.
Thanks for watching Xavier!
Thanks Gabriele, that's excellent advice - every computer is set up slightly differently and for some installing the driver can help.
You're welcome Eric, enjoy your new mixer!
So far the most informative, well put and well explained tutorial ever. I am gland I bumped into this channel. I am loaded with knolwdge. Thanks for making me feel like the big man in soud engineering

@@GLBProductions Ive never thought of the 50% slot for future expansion. Now the 16 make sense. Thanks again.
Yes - especially at this frame size the channels get used up fast when doing concerts so you need to allow for room to grow.
Best mixer tutorials on youtube so far! Thanks :D

Perfect lessons appreciated grate..... need some driver link & windows setup
Great lesson mate, Ive just ordered one of the for my small home studio, after your videos I cant wait to get my hands on it . thanks

Wow! Great tutorial. Thanks so much for your articulate and well paced tutorial. I will definitely watch your other ones also.
Thanks for watching Walt!
You're welcome Pat :) For stage monitors use aux 1 (blue knobs) in pre-fader mode (button pushed in) 😊
@GLBProductions Great to know. I really appreciate ur time answering my question. Thanks again!
You're welcome Pat!

Excellent lesson. Thank you. I would appreciate also a part three where a recording from an instrument using a DAW and the mixer would be demonstrated.
Thanks Chrissostomos for the suggestion.
That would be very helpful! By the way, excellent video, helped a lot!
This was really helpful. I am still confused as to how to get full STAGE monitors using the aux outputs. Seems I only have the use of aux 1. Can you please explain? Thanks a million!
Hello Jim, could you please say more about what you mean by 'full stage monitors' thank you.
Great mixer,have to purchase one
With kind regards
Peter
Thanks for the suggestion Peter :)
These tutorials are really amazing, especially for beginners! I've learnt a lot. Could you also do tutorials for the Yamaha MGP24X? Thank you!

Very detailed explanation. I have a question though. how do I connect a Lexicon MX200 external sound processor ? Thanks.
You would need to use Aux 2, with your MX200 replacing the internal FX unit. You would then return into one of the stereo channels.

Thanks for the great tutorials! very easy to understand, I have a question regarding the RCA jacks on channels 9/10 I was simply using them to play tunes from my phone (the only cables I had were the RCA to iPhone jack) anyway my question is is it normal that I can only get sound output from them if I have the PFL on ? it seems having the channel off or on makes no difference & I only get sound if the PFL is on when using the RCA .. thanks!
It should not make a difference to the signal coming from the stereo output of the mixer - how are your loudspeakers connected?
@@GLBProductions yes .. i will turn off the phantom first as what you said on the video.. thanks a lot and you are my mentor.. take care..😷😷🎙🎼🎛
hello. Very helpful video. Yamaha should pay you, or at least feature your 2-part video series on their site, as you speak very concisely and it’s easy to follow along. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the tutorial! I have a question: can I connect my yamaha electronic keyboard SX900 to 5/6 using unbalanced 1/4" via both L and R?...
Yes no problem :)
Thank you for your quick response. I will watch and try it.
I got it after watching your tutorial. Everything works good now. Thank s again Mr. Bruno. You a a great teacher👍!
Excellent news! All the best with your music :)
Thank you for the excellent tutorial, I learned a lot. I need to connect a Radial Engineering Exo-Pod mult box which has a balanced line level XLR input. What output and type of cable do you suggest for this connection? I am using the 1/4 stereo outputs to a poweramp.
Thanks for watching! For the exopod just use a normal XLR cable from the main stereo outputs, since those aren't being used for your sound system.
@@GLBProductions TY that's what I was thinking, just wanted to double check before our first event using this mixer later this month.
Hi Bruno..can you explain how to connect an external vocal effects unit such as the TC Helicon voiceliveplay to this mixer?
Use the same general procedure as in this video: ua-cam.com/video/GoIiofqEIyU/v-deo.html However on the MG12XU you would use aux 2 as the send and return to any of the stereo channels. You wouldn't be able to use the internal FX in this case.
@@GLBProductions thanks Bruno
Hello, thank you so much for a such a detail video. I hope you're still checking and replying to comments on this video. I have a question regarding how to connect an external FX/EQ to the board. I want to use an EQ to control the feedback from the Mic. Can you please do a video or provide a diagram/instruction on how to connect the EQ to the board? Thank you very much in advance.
You're welcome! This mixer has no insert points, so the EQ would need to be connected between the mixer and your amplifier/powered speakers. See this video here: ua-cam.com/video/RLf8jXGtF8w/v-deo.html
Great videos! So where do I plug in my passive sub’s?/powered sub’s?
There are no standard answers to these questions, it depends on how your system is configured and where your system crossover is located.
(We have 2 SM-58 BETA mics, so they should have similar gain setting specs.)
Thank you very much in advance for any help you may have.
I feel like I should have paid for this damn...good video, we need more tutorials on mixers!
Thanks for watching!
Very good demonstration, and good job, thx,...
You're welcome Antonio.
Excellent Video. Don't get better than this
Thanks for watching 😊
(16 XLR)
My drumset is a Pearl VBX Birch 2011. (DW 5.5" x 14" maple collectors snare added later)
My microphones are:
1x Audio-Technica ATM350D for the snare
5x Audio-Technica Pro35 for the toms
1x RODE NT4 for overheads (stereo mic)
2x Audio-Technica MB4 Condenser Cardioid (side mics)
1x Audio Technica mb 6k for in-side kick
1x Shure SM57 for outer kick.
1x Roland SPD-SX (optional, 2 XLR) (not connected)
1x optional SM57 as a hi-hat mic (not connected)
The recorded kit sounds good to my ears even with no mixing/effects applied to it in post but I'm lacking the knowledge on how to mix my drums in my DAW...More specifically how to use my plugins, (Compressor, Reverb, EQ, Mastering) Which plugins are used for snare, with which order and such.
It would be (AWESOME!!!!!) nice if you consider a tutorial(s) on mixing drums, mix placements and all the info you can throw at us about mixing drums.
I've made a little video describing the current sound I'm getting with my drums setup, please take a listen ua-cam.com/video/uQ8yJwUDQtY/v-deo.html
Thank you Sir.
- Drumvisio
Thanks!
You're most welcome 😊
So in order to use stage monitors we should use the AUX 1 and AUX 2 outputs? Each being in mono?
Correct :)
Yeah the difference is that on 5/6 and 7/8 the pad is built into the 1/4" inputs rather than there being a separate pad switch for the combo input.
@@GLBProductions Thank you and makes sense!

it's real perfect thanks and Next video I hope to add a different device like mobile and etc
A great Video! I have one question, how would you connect an external compressor. Thanks in advance.
Beautifully done! Thanks so much. Great to have visual explanations.
You're welcome MR 😊
Hello from India 🇮🇳!!😇 I would request you to please make more videos...atleast once or twice a month... I see that it's been a year since you post a video with regards to sound. Thank you🙏❤️
Thanks for the support, I will do my best.
@@GLBProductions Thanks so much for your swift reply. 🙏
You're welcome, all the best with your music :)
Excellent explain sir.. Thank you so much.. I have one question ... Where is the audio recording port for youtube any other software...
Thanks for watching! What do you mean by 'audio recording port'?
Your tutorial is so comprehensive and helpful. Thank you. One question: on channel 9/10 is there any benefit to 1/4 inch stereo inputs over RCA?
Thanks for watching John. The main benefit to using 1/4" connectors would be the robustness of the connector - RCA connectors are rarely used in pro audio as they tend to fall apart when subjected to heavy use. I cannot see any sonic benefit in this particular case.
Regarding rack effects - AUX2. Where are the returns?
Hi Glenn, this mixer does not have FX returns in the traditional sense - if you use an external FX unit you would return into one of the stereo channels.
Thank you for, again, another informative tutorial. Which output is best to use for a stage monitor for a live performance?
Traditionally: aux 1, set to pre-fader, although any of the mixer outputs can be used for this purpose.
With knobs the 0dB point is usually at 12 o'clock, sometimes at 2 or even 3 o'clock - check your owner's manual to be sure.
Thank you so much for explaining in great details. I am struggling to understand the manual, and your videos help me to have a better understanding of what each port is for. Cheers!
You're welcome, it's often easier to follow a video tutorial than a printed document.
Perfect Explanation. A perfect Tutorial for Beginners.
Thanks for watching!
@@GLBProductions Thank you very much for the quick reply. I'll try that out.
On channel 5/6 or 7/8 is the xlr input stereo in other words can I run 2 xlr from a controler and use a 2 to one splinter and plug the one in and still achive stero
No, XLR inputs are never stereo 😀
@@GLBProductions thank you I didn't relize that
Yes, unlike a TRS connector which can be wired mono balanced or stereo unbalanced, an XLR connector is almost always mono balanced. If you need stereo with XLR connectors you need to use two channels, panned hard left and hard right respectively.
Can you do a video of this mixer connecting a powered subwoofer thru a aux send so I can control the bass with a fader please?
Take a look at the aux fed sub section of this video: ua-cam.com/video/548GZAF6fMY/v-deo.html
QUESTION: Is it possible to send a wet signal to a monitor connected to the AUX 2 output? Once you connect to the AUX 2 send, the white FX knob in the channel strip becomes AUX 2 volume and there is no AUX2/PRE knob above the FX RETURN fader. Thank you!
No, this is not possible using the internal FX unit - your description above is spot on.
@@GLBProductions thank you for your reply. love your videos. Keep them coming.
The live program link
ua-cam.com/video/kCDVuYihMO8/v-deo.html
