You have hands like my dad. Shows years of hard work and the knowledge to go with it. Thanks for this video. My dad is not feeling well enough to help me with a project so I am trying to brush up on things myself. I grew up on the job with him but didn’t get too much hands on as I became a grown lady. I needed the refresher and simplicity.
Do you have a video on the pro and cons on the different types of material used for 1/4 round and shoe molding? When I go to the box store there are 5 different types (poplar, pine, pvc, Styrofoam and MDF. Finally, what is the best way to attach them when there are steel studs? Thanks
No, I do not have a video covering that topic. However for steel studs you will need to use trim screws. Wood trim will out perform all the others. Thanks for watching.
It is a pretty specific application. I would be glad to help you out anyway I can. When you say 2, 34 degree angles plus the 90 are you referring to a compound miter? Feel free to send me photos of your project to my email. Detroitdiyvideos@gmail.com.
I have no problem cutting one outside corner, I have issues when needing to cut two outside corners on the same piece of trim. Hard to get the exact lenth
Steve, sneek up on the correct length. Cut it a little long and test fit it. Then just remove half saw blades at a time until you get that nice tight fit. It is more trips to the saw, however the nice fit you can get is worth it.
I did not cover steep angles, ua-cam.com/video/szqkYJAFsSw/v-deo.html Watch this video and it will be explained better than I can do it in text. Thanks for watching.
Great video, but you really shouldn't cross your arms when operating a miter saw. Its dangerous. Although you've probably done it a thousand times you're asking for trouble especially wearing loose sleeves
It not easy, if you have baseboard that on right wall or left wall, when you go the saw, left baseboard when cutting 45, do you cut on left side of cutting or right, no one never tell a beginner where to place your baseboard at?
Good old teacher just like the ones that taught me 50 years ago

Thank you! So in essense, an outside mitre cut is beveled inward(raw wood hidden), inside corners bevel outward( raw wood visible)
That is correct.
Thank you very much for the information it was a great help
Thanks a lot for this video. Super helpful!
Thank you! I came across this cuz I'm trying to trim a board and this was exactly what I needed. 👍🏾
Good that you let saw stop before lifting away from trim.
I was happy to see this as well. When I learned to use the saw this is how they taught me. But I see lots of ppl not doing this.
good advice, the extra half matters.
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing!!
Good stuff!
Thank you

Great video! Does the extra half apply when cutting inside corners?
@professorFG yes, only minus a half instead of add.
@@detroitdiy Thank you
my biggest issue, is when cutting corners, they fit perfect.... BUT the trim isnt long enough. Do you extra measurements when measuring to cut?
@mikemaloney875 I cut all my Trim of the wall, rarely ever do I use a tape measure. Inside corners get measured.
I need to make an outside coroner with 2,34° angles plus the 90 for a stairwell ,been looking all over can't find anything on it.

@@detroitdiy Thank you I sent you an email
Thank you so much!!!!!!!
You are welcome.
What’s the purpose of adding the 1/2 degree?
Creates a tight fit.

I will try that, thanks for the reply
My saw doesn't rotate. How would I do it on a basic table saw?
You would have to use a sled or the miter gauge to cut a 45-degree angle on a table saw.
How do you make sure your saw is at 45 1/2? isn't there a stop indent at 45?
Yes there is a stop indent at 45, however you can go past that. Just go in-between 45 and 46.
Hi- I have an outside corner on the ceiling with one straight and it meets an angle (in an attic) can you help?
Maybe, send me a picture so i can better understand what you have going on. Detroitdiychannel@gmail.com
I’m having trouble attaching the pic. I’ll try tomorrow. Thanks for replying.
Wow. Just what I need!! So I need a miter protractor.
They make life easier!
I need a miter saw! Lol I think Home Depot will rent them. I hope.
Your an awesome teacher 👏 ty for making it simple
You are welcome, thanks for watching.
Tank you very much
I have a 87° angle. How is that done?

Not everybody has a rptery saw, do it with a miter box

I want to know how to cut outside corner trim not baseboard or crown. This trim is formed in an L shape
A lot of beginners don’t own a miter protractors
The good thing is they are inexpensive and excellent to add to your collection.
wheres that email? :)

You got a big gap on the floor
He’s going to put quarteround on the base like you always should. Never put trim flush to the floor
