That may all be true, yet I must wonder if the songs might not have been just as good with a much simpler production. From my understanding, these recording sessions were brutal, repetitive, boring, tedious, and dragged on and on. Does it really take a week to tweek a snare sound to make a great record? Maybe cocaine had something to do with producers wanting to produce everything to the utmost degree. I have little doubt Def Leppard would have been awesome even if they had been recorded like the Beatles or The White Stripes or Prince - quick and dirty and it's done.

Spot on!! I recommend to my friends who are listening to Def Lep for the first time to start with the High n Dry and Pyromania albums and go forward from there. On Through The night album is good too for a few tracks. I believe listening in this order helps the listener understand the progression from hard rock band to pop commercial band better.

It's mostly ignored, but Desert Song has to be up there as one of their heavier songs. It also has my favourite Def Leppard guitar solo.

This song brings me right back to the 14 year old me, in the mid to late 80s. The 80s were by far the best generation ever!

Little late to the party, I remember when and where I was when I heard Def Leppard. Was on vacation over a 1000 miles from home in Moorcroft Wyoming summer between 6th and 7th grade.

Probably my all time favorite band. I'm a 80's kid, grew up on mtv when it was brand new. Def just hit me differently. Deeper. I'm 49 and it still hits me there.

In 1983, Def Leppard did to radio what Nirvana did in 1991. DL opened up for Billy Squire when their “Pyromania” album was released and totally overthrew the tour. Def Leppard is the OG of the “Rock Ballad”, and started the “Big Hair Band” genre.

Hysteria is pure nostalgic romanticism. In concert, it is the point when the audience really feels connected to the band, the music and each other. I would recommend listening to “Hysteria” live from the “In the round, in your face” concert video (It is on UA-cam). If for no other reason just to watch Steve dancing with his guitar and being the epitome of cool.

Drummer has one arm. Lost it in car crash. Should have heard the crowd when he came back to play drums for the first time after losing his arm. They lost it. Should listen to him with 2 . "Let it Go" comes to mind. Great tune.

I LOVE that she jams out to this song. I'm so old but back in the day Hysteria was the best make out song. I remember meeting up with this girl that I was head over heels with at our local skating rink. We sunk out, had my gettoblaster (aka, portable stereo), popped this in and spent the whole night kissing. We were kids. We didn't f**k... Just kissed and felt each other. I could have died that night as a happy kid. One of the best songs ever made.
