In this emotionally charged episode, Emma Kenny takes a deep dive into the tragic case of Becky Watts, a teenager whose life was horrifically cut short in Bristol. The case shocked the nation and shed light on the dark undercurrents that can exist within families.
Emma Kenny delves into the complex dynamics between Becky and her step-brother, Nathan Matthews, who, along with his girlfriend Shauna Hoare, was responsible for Becky's murder. This episode explores not just the grisly details of the crime but the psychological aspects that led to such a heinous act. Emma discusses the influence of familial relationships, control, and manipulation that played a role in this tragedy.
With sensitivity and respect, Emma also highlights the impact of Becky’s death on her community and family, focusing on the aftermath and the enduring quest for justice. The episode also touches upon the broader societal implications, such as the importance of recognizing signs of hidden domestic issues and the need for better support systems for troubled families.
Join Emma Kenny as she brings a compassionate and analytical perspective to one of the UK's most heartrending cases, honoring the memory of Becky Watts and seeking lessons that can be learned to prevent similar tragedies.

Emma, please look at the murder of Claire Ford and her daughter Charlie in Cornwall. It's truly heartbreaking.
My daughter's mother was best friends with her and my daughter used to play with Charlie as a baby. I convinced my ex not to go to their house that night as Claire and her boyfriend had been arguing. Claire's father was a paramedic and was the first on scene, his colleagues held him back from entering the house. I actually saw Claire's boyfriend in his car the morning of the murders whilst I was getting milk for my daughter's breakfast. Obviously had no idea what had taken place 😔

No matter how often I hear of this case I have such a deep sadness for Becky and her family. To think this happened within her own home is both terrifying and shocking. I think neither Matthews nor Shauna should ever be released. As Em said, those kind of predelictions don't go away. 😢

Aged 14 i met a man aged 24, left home had 2 children by him by age 19.
    Sufferd physical and mental abuse.
Finally came to my sences 10 years later.
Ended up getting injunction orders against him. Police move and panic alarms in my house.
Got full custody of my boys.
Looking back i was a kid, wish someone would of stepped in and stopped the relationship.

The English justice system is a joke. plenty of people get off horrendous crimes with hardly any time or no time at all.

My Daughter is fixing to turn 17 and she loves to lock herself in her room. I'm only 34, had her young I know, so I remember doing the same thing and why I did it. So instead of forcing her to come out and be with the adults and be miserable, I will make us snacks and go lock myself in her room with her. We listen to music, watch TV, take a nap, whatever it is my girl needs to feel better. It works so well. She opens up and tells me anything and everything she's feeling and thinking. Instead of removing her from her "safeplace" I let her, but I met her halfway.
She is so smart and strong, but mom coming in and being with her in HER place makes her feel more understood. She has said it makes her feel even safer in herself and her own space. It has done wonders for helping her open up and talk instead of just hiding herself and feelings.
So mommas, if you have a moody teen who refuses to spend the time out of their room with you..... go bug the life outta them. They will complain at first, but I promise they will absolutely love the time spent with them and you'll love being the one that's annoying them for a change.
I love all you beautiful people. Now go be a menace to those kids!! 🤣🖤🖤

And Canada, even though it wasn't a child, my family friend was killed by her estranged, abusive husband. She had 3 restraining orders against him, from different localities. She called us about a month before, saying if he found her he would kill her, and she couldn't go to a shelter because of one of her child's very high medical needs. Thankfully he killed himself afterwards. There was a huge inquest, partly because he used an illegal gun, and because of the system failures. There were over 200 recommendations, and I think 2 have been implemented in the 20 years since the inquest and almost 24 since her death

I found my birth parents through ancestry. My mom and dad adopted me and my brother when we were babies through catholic charities. They always supported us by looking for our birth parents. And at the age of fifty five or fifty seven I found my father and then I found my mother. I considered my adopted parents. The ones that saved my life and my birth parents. They gave me life and now it's 62. My life is come full circle and now I am 1 of 11 combining all my steps, sisters and brothers. And my adopted family brothers and sisters.

It's hard to be a kid and suddenly not be able to do all the things you used to do. OMG, i was actually just watching this on court tv yday...it made me cry so much. RIP Timothy. And the vomiting , when she( the so called mother) was shown photos of the torture she inflicted on that poor boy( maybe not directly but she was behind it all, she was the primary caregiver) . If he went into care, he would have been alive today. I really hope her other son Paul gets help too because he is a victim, too, regardless of his participation in the crime. An incredibly sad situation all round😢

I just watched it as well ! A sick psycho .. I’m not a body language expert but even I knew she was lying! The vomiting episode in the courtroom was the fakest thing ever .. what a horrible person who doesn’t deserve to be called a mother 😮

Hi Emma, how many times has multi agencies have failed? I'm from Bradford and it's still fresh about the little Star Hobson was failed by social services many times. Do you think criminal actions should follow to the agencies or individuals who missed countless opportunities to act? Happens too many times.

Not heard the whole thing as yet but I disagreed at the part where you excuse the mum for giving him up and taking on another child. Ok he may have had good care givers but imagine the feeling of abandonment that kid felt. Its not an excuse for his later behaviour but lets not let his heartless mother off too much!

I started dating my exhusband when I was 15 and my ex was 24. We married when I was just 18 and 7 months pregnant. My older sister said I would outgrow him but I didn't believe her but by the time I was 25, I had outgrown him. He began abusing me but I stayed because I didn't want to mess up my kids and it didn't take place in front of them. We had 2 girls together and when my eldest started showing signs of s3xual abuse I had enough and left him. I was homeless and so I sent my girls to stay with my sister 600 miles away where I thot they would be safe. But he managed to convince my mum that I was a drug abuser and she backed him for custody. It took 2 years for me to get them away from him but they went to live with my mum and dad where they were safe. Really painful and still is but I have a good relationship with them now. We are damaged from the abuse but they both have solid marriages and I have 2 grandsons. I missed out on a lot of their growing up but we are close now. Please, if you are underage and an adult wants to be with you, don't go there. You will outgrow them and chances are they have a sick attraction to kids.
