Bruh. This guide makes the mechanic so much easier to understand. It's like 6 hours of prog condensed into a two and a half minute video. And super clean, too! Thank you for your hard work!
Out of the several guides I've watched on this (because for some reason my brain does not jive with this mechanic), this one clicked the best. I love the bullet points and diagrams combined with seeing it in action...very well done, thank you!!
Excellent guide, as always. The two paths shown at the very end help a ton, especially since no other guides have depicted them like that before. There is actually a third way of doing Devour that works for both patterns. You position yourself so that the starting point of the jaws marker is directly NW to where you are standing (the intersection of the + you are standing on, if you're looking at the floor markings) and hit sprint. Then run forward to the middle of the arena (but not directly in the middle) after the first jump, run through the middle after the second jump, turn around, and repeat. The timing looks scary at first, but doing this run-stop method is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. The problem is that there aren't any videos up of it so far, just a few Japanese tweets and some twitch clips.
I have seen that one in this video: ua-cam.com/video/UW8sNgaaOp0/v-deo.html in his gameplay footage he plays it differently but the animation is that exact strat you described i recomend waiting for the 2nd aoe to show before running straight through and then hitting sprint after you turn back for the first time, so that it lasts to the end of the mechanik
Always with the quality animations to simplify mechanics explanation! Already suffered and cleared through having to understand day 1 images but thank you for the effort!
Nice and clear as always o/. I've been doing the JP dodge found recently of merely running back and forth across the middle three times after every second jump myself.
I'm gonna suggest for the zigzag pattern to hold your sprint and just walk to the corner, you can make it pretty easily and use sprint around the 4th or 5th dash or so to get to your tower quicker
After struggling with this mechanic two raid nights in a row, this video made me understand it instantly. Coming back for a refresh before a reclear tonight and I can't believe how useful this is. Thank you for all your hard work, it's incredibly appreciated!
hector guide help me clear the fight, but reward it with joonbob alway feel better because he si include live footage, and thank for whoever think about this braindead strat
My raid leader showed us this strat and while I’ve managed to grasp how to do it, some members still can’t get the hang of it. This video should help a lot. TnX
TBH I wait for an extra AoE even and I still make it (Zigzag: running after 3rd jump, Circle: Running on 1st/5th jumps). After Braindead strat came out, I have no idea how people still mess it up. This makes it even *more* obvious what to do. Thanks as always Joon!
Yep this is the video that clicked for me Did it day 1 but was in a proper group so I had to rely on callouts, watched lots of guides on this and try it out few hours ago in devour prog PF and died zero times from it Good video, thanks!
Same exact strat I used but I was terrible at explaining what I do. Thank you for putting this up so I can share with my static so they dont think Im insane.
I don't know the name for it in PF, but I start across from his 2nd jump location and move across on his 2nd jump. If it's zigzag, I turn counter-clockwise 1 quadrant to end up where he already struck twice. If it's circle, I repeat the motion 2 more times every 2 jumps, being sure to hang a little to the right on the 3rd time I move so I swing away from his jumps. I find that the easiest, because both patterns start the same and move the same way. It's just that with zigzag, you can get out of it early in the guaranteed safe quadrant. Plus, the movements are so short, that I can save Sprint for after to get to my tower.
It took me a bit to figure this one out cause there is a lot of timing nuance that you need to get down even if you know the theory of it. Still hate the mech even if I do dodge it every time cause there is always at least 2 people that get hit in PF.
Now that people were learning how to do the mech, it launches another way of doing it that is absolutely better, but people will need to learn it again so it's another week of cursed PFs™
Devour is ez af. All you need to do is find the pattern Zigzag : ccw movement > cw mkvement 1. Stand diagonally opp, but a bit below to 1st mark 2. After 2 jumps run 4 5 pizza slices ccw 3. Run 2-3 pizza slices cw Not zigzag : cw movment > ccw movement 1. Stand below 1st mark 2. Run 5 6 pizza slices cw 3. Run 2 3 pizza slices ccw How many steps/pizza slices comes with practice If you do it close center thers very less movement required. Thers lots of ways to do it, its better to understand how he jumpz in each pattern and understanding safe spots, instead of just blindly following someones braindead strat
Personally I find it a little easier to view the starting jump the boss does as 'Relative North West' and I always preposition to the 'Relative South' location from that. Depending on if its the Zig-Zag pattern or the Circle pattern I only have to step one pizza slice left or right from that location while I wait for the first 2 jumps to actually happen. Its a minor detail but I think it could help some players visualize it.
This is fine, but I prefer the braindead strategy that involves crossing the line every 2nd jump. The movement is identical with both patterns and it's quite consistent once you get the hang of it.
Is this grid even pointing to true north? On my grid it shows up starting in the NE section, goes down and up for ZigZag, or goes down and across to the left for Circle.
I'm surprised people are not using the JPN strategy. It's the same for any pattern. You just go back and forth every two jumps (forward and back and forward and back, etc)
@@neophyte_DQT recognizing the pattern and correctly choosing which movement you are going to do are also additional failure points -- this is personal preference.
@@Kullerva171 true ppl have different strengths. my experience for this is people typically know what to do, but not how to do the movement. especially since you can just follow someone else to the correct starting spot. i also don't like the JP strat at all, the movement is unnecessarily precise compared to this joonbob vid end of the day idgaf what people choose to do as long as they are not dying b/c they chose something harder for them. this is a personal mech you can do whatever you want
Bit of an odd question regarding the towers after Devour but I saw that in both examples here all 4 towers were being soaked and it still spawned the Bait add. Is there like a special strat for that to happen? I thought you had to leave one tower unsoaked to spawn the add.
One tower only had one person, which still spawns the add as intended to proceed! Normally have to be stacked by two people in order for the add to not spawn. That one same tower spawns an AoE to the closest person, and does massive damage that can be normally stacked, This one allows for a tank to just invuln that part, and allow the other tank to be able to adjust in the case that someone dies.
I don't really like the description of "dash diagonally across", because a lot of people take this to mean "run in a straight line" and they end up getting clipped. I know the diagram / video correctly show you should curve slightly, but the amount of people I've seen die running in a straight line through center is too damn high. Still this shows the solution really clearly, better than the "braindead" video floating around (really tired of the overuse of braindead)
That is better and can be done but "start diagonal and run counter-clockwise/clockwise-and-back" is easier for smoother brains like myself to understand and remember than "stand in the middle and leftrightleftforwardrightbackleftrightforward"
