I quit Twitter after being banned 3 times for saying things that we now don’t have the freedom to say.. Left 18,000 followers. (Probably mostly BOTS 😂)
I’d like to see how you load your pack, what’s the best order to place things?

Liked your walmart kit video. Havent seen anyone do an all Wish dot com overnight challenge yet and I see all 10 c's on their site for pennies on the dollar! Example: SUUNTO knock off compass with mirror, bezel and declination adjustment for $3! I'd love to see you do and all wish kit and review their gear!

😂 The beard brush, cute! That looks like a great pack & great review, as always. I really appreciate how neat & tidy your keep things. You have no idea how much other people’s belongings stress me out in these types of videos, they just dump everything in & it’s dirty and uncared for. x

I thank you and all the Pathfinders for what you do and for up front and straight forward honest reviews and how unlike some of the other channels that promote outdoor wilderness survival/primitive skills, you all actually practice what you preach. All the products you recommended so far have all been on point, durable and in some cases the same price or even cheaper than some of the others out there. Are there any other products out there like the MK2 rig thats worth the money?? Doesn't seem like they are every going to not be out of stock and that really sucks being how that would have been a awesome emergency bag for hunting season.

Thanks for making this video, I’ve been wondering about this pack. The quality looks great, it’s not too heavy, and for me personally I’ll pay more for good gear as long as I can. The quality of the video seemed really good as well so whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!

Helikon-Tex makes some great gear. I've got their H- harness and E&E pouch, both are outstanding. I like how this also has the hollow space to accommodate an axe, the E&E pouch does as well and it fits both my Bacho or CRKT tomahawk perfectly. Excellent review, I think I see one of these in my near future!

The problem that I find in some of the outdoor videos is the lack of information on what to bring in 'HOT WEATHER". Some people live in very hot weather climates, and may not be in those parts of the US where the weather can drop down to -30 degrees....

I'm about to get this. For me the best parts are the lid pockets, the PALS belt, and the way the pouches are full length. The drawstring closures are more secure and allow one to overload the pouches, temporarily. If possible, I'll use MOLLE 2 sustainment pouches if needed. To me, this is reminicent of the Becker patrol pack.

I just sold my Molle 2 pack. The buyer really likes it. It went to wyoming on an elk hunt already. Bought an Osprey Aether 70 l. I was impressed with it durability. I did a section hike on the AT.here in Pa.
One thing I should do is take the 55 gal. bags for imprvised bedding like you have shown. . I was held up on Peters Mountain here in pa by a serius thunderstorm. Sept 2 2019.
Wished I would of had the bags to keep bottom dry. Thanks for all your videos. Even an Army Veteran like me can learn something from from your videas.
Maybe someday I will get a pack like this for shorter Trips. Thanks for your servive.

I completely agree. 500 denier is thin. It's noisy too for whatever reason, as anyone can tell from the video. ALICE is still the best out there. Spec Ops (specopsbrand.com) did a nice job with their MOLLE compatible ALICE type pack in 1000 denier nylon. It's a good strong pack with great oversized exterior pockets, but they also skipped some of the other great features of the original ALICE.

Looks well built and at the prices I’ve seen, worth the money. However, the appeal of the Alice pack for me has always been the ability to easily replace a piece if it breaks and the modularity and assortment of pouches available (along with the almost absurd amount of attachment points for them). I see the Matilda has some MOLLE webbing, but it just isn’t as abundant as I’d hoped for. For now I’ll stick with my medium and large ALICE packs, they give me what I need and as the saying goes... “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

Hey corporal, you mentioned in a previous video that your 2nd favorite pack was the Savotta Jaakari M and your 1st was the Alice.
Seeing how the Matilda is a modern take on the Alice, and this video was made after your Savotta video; where would you place the Matilda on top rated pack?
I would like to know if saving up for a Savotta is worth it or if I should stick with my Matilda.

I really enjoy your videos and show some to our scout troop to give them some ideas. I wish you were closer so you could come speak to our scout troop about survival. We do a camp-out each year we call our survival camp-out where to boys are allowed to bring in a backpack and a shoebox worth of food for the night. It is a lot and they tend to over pack for it. I think it would be cool if you could do a video specifically for the younger viewers to prove that they can do what you do also.

  • @TrailTribune
    @TrailTribune 5 років тому +4

Great pack but one thing that's missing on these survival packs that I absolutely love about backpacker packs are ice axe loops...which just so happen to absolutely perfect for caring axes such as your carpenter's axe. They do a better job at retaining the axe (so if you dump your pack upside down it doesn't fall out). Additionally, ice axe loops prevent the axe from sticking down past the bottom of the pack so you can still easily place your pack on the ground in a vertical position. Most importantly, when you go to sit on a rock to take a rest the axe handle won't get hung up or require you to lean forward 45 degrees. Overall a much better design. The backpacking world has been doing this a long time and have some very useful features. Survival pack manufacturers should look to the backpacking world and incorporate some of them.

Two Niner - this is the comment I've been searching for. I have been debating between a military style pack and a backpacker style. I cannot figure out why there is a such a divergence in design. I can understand that a tactical pack needs to be much heavier-duty, but I will not be parachuting into the Hindu Kush with 100lbs of gear in my pack, so it doesn't have to survive impact on rocks. Aside from bulletproof materials, which makes sense in a military pack, I can't figure out why the designs are so different other than legacy.

I’ve been eye ballin this pack for a couple months. I’ve been using the 5.11 Rush 72 2.0. It’s a great bag however it’s more of a backpack style pack rather than the Alice pack. The Rush 72 has way too many pockets and it can get confusing when you need to get to something in a hurry or you have to unbuckle and unzip the main compartment while trying to not let gear fall out. I’m thinking for a bushcraft/camping bag the Matilda would be a better choice. The Rush 72 seems to be geared more for the range and/or day pack that requires a fair amount of room for gear. Thanks for the review and helping me decide on my next purchase.

    • @keksimusultimus4257
      @keksimusultimus4257 2 роки тому

I have a feeling RUSH series are overated in terms of quantity. I own and use a rush24, and got the helikon bergen which is 18L, at least, the main compartment. Even if the bag goes to 20-something lts with the pouches, is still half of the rush capacity, yet i can fit *almost* everything my rush can hold. All these pockets and stiches takes valuable space that reduces heavily the capacity IMO. Either that, or helikon under-estimates their bag's capacity.

  • @shawnr771

    Good looking pack.
    Nice features.
I would make a suggestion to Helikon.
Make the three pouches on the back detachable on Molle for mix and match.
We all have our own preferences.
I am suprised you dont carry a folding shovel.

It looks like it is well made. My only issue is that just like my Maxpedition pack, there are no load-lifters and no adjustment for torso length. Therefore all of the weight is pulling down and back on your shoulders. When carrying a backpack of the size of an ALICE pack with all of that stuff in it, all of the weight is supposed to be on your hips. Carry all of that stuff 10-20 miles and your shoulders will let you know what I’m talking about. God bless and keep up the good work. John

While it very comparable to an Alice Medium pack, an Alice Medium is 40L and the Matilda Rucksack is 35L. There are several upgrades to the Matilda rucksack over the Alice Medium, but if size matters, go with the Alice.

The main problem of all that helikon packs is that they all are frameless. This is not a problem if you need to carry no more than 10kg of cargo. So this packs is OK when used as a 1-day pack. Otherwise it's much more comfortable to use packs with frames. Even old-school alice packs with their heavy LC frames are much better when it needs to carry a heavy weight. On a long distances the frame helps a lot. Helikon tex positions this backpack as a replacement for the Alice pack, so it can hardly be classified as a day pack. It's more of a three-day backpack.
Also if someone is looking for 1-2 day pack and you don't need all that external pockets it's better to look at helikon raider pack. I've got Matilda, groundhog, bail-out, EDC and Raider helikon packs in my collection. And raider is number one in context of comfortability and functionality imho.

    • @Thee-_-Outlier
      @Thee-_-Outlier Рік тому +1

I commented something similar. My main point is how do you call any frameless pack a replacement for a framed pack. They are simply apples and oranges and can cause a novice who is unfamiliar with framed packs to make a poor purchase and buy this helikon tek thing thinking it's for long heavy treks and it really isn't.
If you want a pack that looks like this, is built better and has removable shoulder straps to allow it to be affixed to a molle OR an Alice frame then take a look at the "Spec-Ops Recon Ruck Ultra ". It's a bit pricey for my budget so I haven't bought one to date, but if I were to plunk down $250 on a pack it would probably be the Recon Ruck Ultra. I just hope they don't discontinue it one day before I buy one lol.
Oh, I want to be clear that the Recon Ruck Ultra is designed to fit both the molle 2 and Alice frame, it doesn't need to be rigged by you to work. Tbh, idk why this isn't a more common design. It only makes sense to utilize ubiquitous equipment like military surplus Ruck frames and incorporate them into the design of civilian packs. This would allow them to sell many packs without the manufacturing commitment and cost of making frames specially designed for their own packs.

True, but another truth bomb is that ultra light packs are made of stuff as light as or even lighter than 210 nylon. And they routinely last through an entire season and even years. A little care goes a long way.

Love your videos as always. I have a big concern about the pack you just showed. Everything was single stitched not double and I saw a seam that looked like it was starting to open.

Just checking out this pack again... how’d it fare over the years?
Also... around 6:00, is that the theme music from Empire total war? Sounds so familiar!

Look like the size of an Alice Medium. I would like to see someone come up with a modernized shelter half system.

    I was sold.
Right up until the point where I discovered it was frameless.

I'm not noticing any loose threads or shabby sewing. Looks like a quality product.

Verne Parrish Helikon Tex is the real deal. I have the MK2 belt rig and it’s outstanding.

Thoughts on attaching an ECWS 4 piece modular sleep system to it? Seems like the ALICE pack lends itself a little better to that?

Cool video! Can I ask which color is this and is it still available? I wasn't sure looking at the ones on the main site

Only one thing that I would like to see changed , detachable shoulder straps cause they get the most wear and tare on that stitching. Eventually the straps will get flat and worn out but other than that it looks like as great option for bushcraft. Seems the Alice packs are going up in price, that's very annoying but I like the outer frame more than the inner. The outer frame Alice is awesome for modifications and we bushcraft freaks love making stuff our own.

Does the internal frame do the trick for you? My ALICE frame is a torture device. Would be great if they had molle on the top for something like a Ridge Rest pad. Love the line "I get, I give".

I like the music at 8:31 when you display the contents of the pack? Who is it? What's that tune called?

hi cpl, I wanted to ask you a question, I use the helikon foxtrot 2 system, do you think that the Matilda backpack is comfortable if used at the same time as the foxtrot 2? thank you

Thanks for doing the review on this, I'm looking for a new bush pack and this one was recommended but the video on the helikon website doesn't show well what it can hold, thank you! Decision made and I'll be picking one up when they come back in stock! As of today you're sitting at 450k subs, any plans for anything special at 500?

Thanks, good review. One other item that may be important to your followers is the torso range of this pack. You mentioned earlier that you're 6'2", so apparently this pack fits individuals your size. I'm way below that height, so it's not an issue. So on a long day hike, any sore points on the old bod?

To the idiot out there, you know who you are.The Corporal is just the right person to do this review.I have had this pack for about a year now and I just cannot say enough good things about it. Those that KNOW packs will heartily agree. Great workmanship on the products of this company. And no I was not given mine, I gladly paid the very reasonable price for this extremely good pack. Great job as always Corporal.

Good evening Corporal, I noticed you are wearing Weather Wool anorak.. how do you like it and how’s the fit on that? Is it supposed to fit a little bit baggy like that? Having trouble deciding what size I should order. Thanks for your awesome content.
