The "model" that inspired them (S.R.O) is Savotta Jääkäri M that they used and tested for quite some time before releasing the "scout pack"
I have the original from Savotta. The scout pack have more pockets and larger side pockets than the Savotta bag. But I've added molle side pockets about 3 liters each.

No doubt. And it’s still questionable

I have been using this pack for about a year. Personally, I do like it. I treat it as a larger daypack, with an emergency overnight kit. The one nitpick I agree with, is the bottle slots. What I ended up doing is putting a canteen in one, with a canteen cup, and a grayl filter in the other one, with a steel cup, to aid in putting them back in place. I did find they DO take a little space up, when packing on the inside-but, if you pack it like a daypack, with, say, a possible overnight stay (I will keep a ranger roll in the top), its actually not a bad pack. Again, I use mine pretty often for a day pack, and usually put my ham radio in it, with all the other gear, and carry it with no issues.

I appreciate your objective review. I also like pack design overall, but I think they skimped on the type and amount of construction material which makes the pack too small to be functional as anything but a day pack. The zippers and strap material could be sturdier.

Thanks Mike. Interesting pack but I am happy with my Karrimor Sabre 35 liter pack. It has served me well for years. The two side zippered pockets hold large canteens or other stuff as needed. It is rugged and comfortable too. I also have a Berghaus pack. It's 30 liters and I have two removable 10 liter pockets that bump the volume up to 50 liters. Good enough for a couple of nights.

👍 .. I have a preference for zippered side pockets. Got them on my Backpacker 'Boulder' and 'Canyon' 75 / 60 litre Packs from the early 80's (and a host of 70's / 80's day packs .. most now 'retired') and on my Savotta Jääkäri S Day Pack. Even better, the Savotta Pack Side Pockets are removable / exchangeable to suit whatever.

Dave put a post on fb and i mentioned the issue with the pockets and he was like are you nuts those things are huge.I said yes you are right but on your youtube video when you put the canteen set in the bag was empty not full of stuff.

I found a used but like new jakkari S for $100 on ebay awhile back. Recently I bit the bullet and put two 6L side pouches on it. (I shouldve went with 4L) but regardless, its bomb proof like my old alice packs, probably even more so. DC tweaks alot of good gear, some good, some not so, but is able to bring it to market at fair prices. That seems more like a pack for a highschool kid to commute back and forth to school with.

I’ll take your recommendation and pass on this model. The waist band with MOLLE attachment points makes good sense. Chest straps with “choker” attachment would feel like self induced wound… great review!!!

Yup I have two of them, I really do like the pack. But they could have expanded the side pockets a tad bit more. And the rain fly should have been reversible to a camo or dark side. Other than that good pack it is one of the best ones I have. And I have couple of packbacks.

🤔 .. the Savotta Jääkäri M and even the S for me would be a better bet (I already have the S).
The PALS Webbing on the Savottas and the huge varied selection of Pouches that can be added / removed / exchanged to suit are a deal breaker .. plus the outstanding quality of the packs.
On my Jääkäri S, I sometimes store gear inside two '4L' Side Pouches INSIDE the Pack to keep the outside streamlined. Should I need additional capacity for any reason, I just move the Pouches to the outside of the Pack. Especially handy when grocery shopping and the purchase turns out a bit larger than expected 😏.
Also, I have a 'Beaver Tail' that I can add to / remove from, the back of my pack as and when required. Very handy for Jackets, Bundles of Wood and more. When not required, it rolls up small and goes into the Pack.

Hello I just wanted to give an opinion. I never cared for this pack. Especially the coloring of it , the small pouch, the lid doesn't go up high enough for the roll top, and it's not made in the USA but that's typical for the Pathfinder brand. It's a savotta jaakari M rip off. Just not a pack id buy. I'd buy the savotta jaakari packs.

The price, side pockets and the color are what kept me away, I went with the Highlander Forces 33L in OD, from Military 1st in the UK its 1000D polyester, so you're not giving much up to nylon, the difference in price is a lot, but the difference in durability is minimal , even though you'll hear it repeated over and over again the nylon is superior..the reality is only by a small amount.

I have to agree. We as users probably will never wear out a backpack doing what we do. I’m still using two packs that are 20 years old. Or nearly. Still working great. Only had to change one fastex buckle.

Ok to address one comment early in the video.. if you cant do an overnight in a 35 liter pack you are packing way too much stuff. A 35 liter can easily support a 2 or 3 night trip.

Only question is food and season. Here in Switzerland. You can do this without a problem in Summer. But if you build an insulated shelter with a good fire. No problem. But it will determine a comfortable or a cold night
