    In the comics, Magneto has wavered between the heroic and villainous side. He actually ran Xavier's school for a while when Charles wasn't available. The tricky thing is, he believes he is doing the noble thing, that the mutants are and will be persecuted like his family had been during the Holocaust, so he's trying to protect them from a world that wants to control them.

    Great reaction Marie like always. The basis for this movie was a graphic novel, "God Loves, Man Kills". It was changed a lot but the basic plot is still there. great story. From back when 'graphic novel' was both a specific publishing format and indicated a story meant to be for a more mature audience (in terms of more sophisticated themes and pacing that might be 'boring' for kids used to 'bright colors punch punch' type comics).
    The lake shot at the end was a huge teaser for fans of the comics. It's kinda hard to make out if you're not looking for it, but a Phoenix begins to appear on the water, and a Fun trivia: In the comics, Mystique (the shapeshifter) was married to a man of prominence and hid her mutant nature until she couldn't hide it when their son was born. That son had inky black skin, horns and a tail.
    That son was Nightcrawler aka Kurt Wagner (Vahg ner for rough pronunciation) who is the teleworking mutant we see in this movie. The woman with adamantium bones and claws was a rendition which doesn't hold up to the comic character Lady Deathstryke/Deathstrike. Keep up the good work.

      Yeah, they don't get into that plotline during the films at all. Nor do they get into the comics' plotline about her pretty much adopting Rogue and Rogue starting out more on the dark side of the ledger.
      But Mystique is actually about as old as Charles. I guess if you can shapeshift, you can look as young as you want.

    Hello Dawn!๐Ÿ˜Š I believe in the last film Logan impaled Mystique when she posed as Storm. Then, we see her on the floor at the end looking like a guard with the three knife wounds from Logan. So, she got away by posing as a guard. Good call guessing Nightcrawler would actually be a good guy, Dawn. Scott and Jean's fight damaged the dam.๐Ÿ˜‰ That is why Stryker was freaking out when he looked at the gauges. The object under the water at the end was not a fish, it was bird shaped. Eventually the films lead to the prequels which reveal some of the characters past. Great reactions to your second original X-Men film, Dawn!!!!๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

    @LittleGalaxyBoy 3 ะดะฝั– ั‚ะพะผัƒ +9

    I love this film but it's worth meaning that the X-Men films arenโ€™t the most faithful to the comics, especially since this was during a time when studios were still testing the waters with comic book adaptations. As a result, many changes were made to make the characters and stories feel less "comic book-y," if that makes sense. It's very much a re-imagined take on the X-Men for the 2000s audience that does away with the more wild ideas that may of been too much for mainsteweam audiences.
    The same applies to the Nolan Batman movies, where Nolan pushed to make those movies feel more realistic, as if they were set within our own world. The truth is, you can still tell grounded stories without having to apply these universes to our reality. You can embrace the supernatural, cosmic, and fantastical and still tell grounded stories. Man of Steel for example followed the trend that Nolan started with Dark Knight and it just did not work for a Superman movie.
    Thankfully, the X-Men movies didnโ€™t go too far into being overly realistic, even when the X-Men movies progressed, they started embracing the comic book roots a lot more giving into the more fantastical elements. The Deadpool films are perhaps the most comic-accurate examples of this. If you're looking for a take on the X-Men that's even closer to the comics, I highly recommend X-Men '97 (2024), an amazing animated series that captures these characters amazingly. You'll actually care about everyone beyond Wolverine.
    So yeah just something to keep in mind. The X-Men comics are much more cosmic and fantastical when compared to the movies. Very much treat these films as their own thing, coming from the movies to X-Men '97 is a wild whiplash lol

    • @passionsquietrage
      @passionsquietrage 3 ะดะฝั– ั‚ะพะผัƒ +1

      Nolan actually did a great job with that approach though, especially with the second one. Man of Steel was pretty grounded and relatable.

      โ€‹@@passionsquietrageit really defines the problem with the Fox X-Men movies. They force all the long form story telling into single movie.

    • @LittleGalaxyBoy
      @LittleGalaxyBoy 3 ะดะฝั– ั‚ะพะผัƒ +1

      @@passionsquietrage Don't get me wrong I love the Nolan trilogy, but I feel like more was lost than earned with Nolanโ€™s attempt to ground everything to our own reality. Raโ€™s al Ghul became just a normal guy, stripped of so much of his depth and mysticism from the comics. Gotham, too, lost its unique identity in The Dark Knight, where the city started to feel like just a stand-in for any American East Coast city. And as for Robin, he was turned into a cop with the legal name Robin who worked with Batman in a single film, rather than being developed into the iconic hero we know from the comics.
      I love the Nolan movies, with Batman Begins being my personal favorite, but by The Dark Knight, the "grounded in our own reality" approach felt a bit too much for me. I enjoy Man of Steel, but it definitely followed the trend set by The Dark Knight. Thankfully, it still retained the fantastical elements surrounding Krypton, which were some of the best parts of the film. However, the overall tone and depiction of Earth in Man of Steel were very much rooted in the idea of "What if Superman existed in the real world?" coming off Nolan's "What if Batman existed in the real world?".

      @passionsquietrage 3 ะดะฝั– ั‚ะพะผัƒ +1

      @LittleGalaxyBoy I do agree that Ra's Al Ghul without the Lazarus pits was definitely odd. I also wasn't a fan of the way they told Harvey Dent's story and his transformation into Two-Face, a lot of the major aspects of his character were missing. That said, The Dark Knight is still one of the best comic book movies we've ever gotten. I hated how they revealed Blake's legal name to be Robin when it should have something like "Richard", "Mr. Grayson" etc and done as an easter egg for fans. The only issue I had with MoS was the death of Johnathan Kent by a tornado instead of the usual heart attack.

    There is a TV show called Legion that doesn't get spoken about much but is worth watching. It follows Xaviers mutant son, diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age, he goes to a treatment hospital. It's such a trippy show (and has a fantastically dark character role from Aubrey Plaza).
    The show does not interfere with the Fox/Marvel movie & TV show timeline, but has loose links to some characters and the comics, so you can watch it at anytime without worry of spoilers. It is three series long but I highly recommend it if you fancy a mutant brain twist of a time in between your 'Superhero' journey :)

    I do think they should have kept in one deleted scene. Xavier, after an attempt by Jason (I think that's Stryker's son's name) to manipulate him which Xavier sees through, overcomes his telepathic inhibitors, and compels Jason to free him. Xavier then travels back to the ruins of the X-Mansion and finds it abandoned except for one mutant girl, who we see has Jason's heterochromatic eyes, which lets us know this is all still an illusion. Sure, it lengthens the runtime, but it bothers me that in the theatrical cut, Charles seems rather gullible. It's obviously an illusion, yet he falls for it so fully. But, that deleted scene shows us something that can fool even us, the viewer, so we can believe how he hasn't seen through it.
    X2 is one of the best regarded X-movies, even popular consensus is that Logan is the best (and I know there are arguments as to whether First Class or Days of Future Past are better than it). Also, the next movie, X-Men: The Last Stand, is not well regarded (kind of considered a "best of the bad movies" thing), but it's important to see in order to understand some remaining movies (especially The Wolverine, which definitely takes place after it). Plus, it's not horrible, but a step down, is all.

    Unfortunately the dynamic between Professor X and Magneto will most likely be lost on you simply because you didn't grow up in North America. The X-Men comics started in the '60s and was a loose parallel of the civil rights movement, with the mutants representing every race and the humans representing the white race. Professor X and Magneto are representations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X respectively. Professor X/Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to co-exist peacefully while Magneto/Malcom X wanted their own space away from everybody else. It is important to note Magneto never really instigates violence or action unless it is in response to violence or action against him or the mutants, much like Malcom X never called for violence unless it was in self defense. To call Professor X/Martin Luther King Jr. or Magneto/Malcom X evil would not be far, it would be more far to see both as different means to an end.

    Wagner (Nightcrawler) is a fan fave in the comics, but he has very short blue fur (and no tattoos). He is a devilish rogue and ladies man.
    Deathstrike is not actually a mutant in the comics, but a Japanese cyborg out for revenge against Logan for "stealing" the adamantium secret from her father.
    Mystique actually had her own comic run which you can pick up as a graphic novel, and I think you would enjoy.
    The war has always been between Magneto who wishes dominance over humanity, and humanity which wants to subjugate the mutants. Xavier's dream is being one of humans and mutants existing peacefully together.

    Magneto can manipulate the natural iron in our blood. He could kill us but it wouldn't have been enough iron for him to break out. Mystique injected the guard with a lot more iron so he could break out. This version of Magneto is far weaker than the immensely powerful comic book version. Comic book Magneto can affect the magnetic field of the entire world. He could cause massive earthquakes, shift continents. put up a magnetic shield to protect himself, etc ...
    Comic Book Cyclops is powerful enough to shatter mountains with his eye beams. It was his fight with Jean Grey (Marvel Girl in the comics) that caused the damage to the dam.

    Well now, Dawn, don't you remember, in the first one, when Jean described the traits of Wolverine that she could assess? He had undergone a procedure that grafted adamantium all along his _skeleton;_ sure to be an excruciating experience; the kind of experience most people would not _survive,_ but he did because of his uncharted _healing_ abilities; healing abilities that, subsequently made her unable to assess his age. She said, "He may, very well, be older than _you,_ professor."
    Now, it's true, he ages very _slowly,_ but he _does age._ Nothing that lives lives forever. In cinema, that would be unrelatably unrealistic.
