  • Fishing Moorabool reservoir. Alan Bonnici & Mark Moseley from FishingMad head up towards Ballan and fish the very picturesque Moorabool Reservoir. A great day out the guys caught many trout and small redfin using a variety of lures and bait. The catch of the day was a beautiful brown trout buck that happily took a scrub worm. Please enjoy the video and feel free to pass any feedback onto reports@fishingmad.com.au Please check the fishing regulations when fishing Moorabool, No waders and no fishing the rockwall are common mistakes made.

      Srub worms on a light running sinker rig or shallow diving hard body lures and long casting spoons. Thats all i have used there and done quite well

    Hey Alan, I was reading your advice on lures and gear for catching redfin. When you, and just about everyone else, says, let the lure sink to the bottom then retrieve/ lift with short hops etc, my experience has been losing countless lures (at around $3 - $4 for cheap ones and up to $20 for some) to snags. This becomes rather expensive, especially when you're out fishing several times a week.

      Its a great question. When i'm in snaggy areas I try and get the lure as low as I can and just slow roll the lure that way its staying low, moving slowly but just above the bottom to prevent you from getting snagged. Nothing worse when your suing $20+ lures and you continually get snagged. Again my first few casts I kinda gauge how long it takes for the lure to hit the bottom and if it seems snaggy I aim to keep the lure just above the bottom, moving continuously slowly to avoid snags.

    Nice work I’ll have to check that spot out. What line you running any leader?

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  6 років тому

      For freshwater I generally go with 8 pound braid and 1/2 meter of 6 pound leader

      Hi Rose, yeah these were plain scrub worms. I usually buy them for about $10 per container from local tackle stores. I get them from Hooked on bait and tackle on old geelong road, or vtackle, and most compleat anglers store them aswell. I use just a small running sinker to a swivel and about 50 cm of leader to a size 6 bait keeper hook. The best time of year to target trout is between late April and July. When the weather gets colder and they tend to fire up on the first couple of hours of sunlight and sundown. Thats when the redfin shut down so your chances will be hight o get a good trout. They can be a tough species to catch at times. I caught a beatiful brown trout from there another occasion that made the cover of a few fishing magazines so well worth the effort. always happy to reply and help so keep the questions coming.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  4 роки тому +2

      It can be located of Spargo creek road, we just access through the main gate. There is parking available there.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  4 роки тому

      Can be accessed anytime, im not aware of any access restrictions. In terms of fishing this time is porbably great for redfin, winter better for trout.
