  • This was my first day of 2021 fishing one of the central highland lakes in Victoria. I went to Newlyn and Hepburn to look at water heights and decided to go for a walk about Newlyn Reservoir. I hope you enjoy seeing my process for tackling a lake like this for a quick afternoon fish!

Just watched this vid again and I cant wait to go fly fishing again. The anticipation of getting the bite was like watching the best thriller movie ! I dont know what compares to that feeling of seeing a trout, presenting your fly and getting that eat. Even if you lose the fish in the battle you know that the presentation and fly was right. I still get all shakey when i land a good fish. Thanks mate for sharing your passion for fly fishing. Its the BEST way to catch them and it gives you an insight to the way nature works

Great video Tom, ignore the stupid comment below, Vic lakes are tough and you’re about the only guy I know who has videos of catching trout in these lakes.
I would love to see a video on how you target those spinner feeders on dry.
Maybe next time you get down to St Claire in summer.
    Cheers!

I really enjoy your episodes Tom they always very informative especially as I live in Victoria. Any chance you can do a demo of tying a Tom Jones fly?

Thanks Rich, glad they are helpful. I might be able to in the off season when I’m back behind the vice more often :)

That was a really good bit of angling, the fly change and the sight cast was so good. Do these fish spawn in the lake itself?

Hey Katie, so 6 weight line and rod for fish like that on the lakes. And 6-8lb tippet.
Glad you are enjoying the vids 😊

Hi Tom, thanks for reply below much appreciated. This maybe a little off topic & maybe not the right place to ask but what are your thoughts on a second-hand or used fly line bank for want of a better word, where pros like yourself & others would put up for sale or even to give away used fly line that is no longer needed but still good enough for the beginner or weekend warrior to maybe get access to quality used line.?. TIA.

How to get across the creek down at the bottom? I thought it was too deep to wade...

It’s actually pretty easy to cross, it’s just boggy/silty bottomed so be careful 😊
