While ethanol-fueled cars have some advantages, they also come with several downsides: 1. Reduced fuel economy: Ethanol contains less energy per gallon compared to gasoline, leading to lower fuel efficiency. This means you'll need to refuel more often, offsetting some of the cost savings. 2. Limited availability: Not all gas stations offer ethanol blends, so finding a convenient refueling station can be challenging in some areas. 3. Corrosion and engine damage: Ethanol can be corrosive to certain engine components and fuel system parts, potentially leading to increased maintenance costs and shorter engine lifespan if the vehicle isn't designed to handle ethanol blends. 4. Lower energy content: Ethanol has a lower energy density than gasoline, which can result in reduced overall vehicle performance, especially in terms of acceleration and power. 5. Water absorption: Ethanol is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water from the environment. This can lead to phase separation in the fuel tank and cause engine problems, especially in older vehicles. 6. Land use and environmental concerns: The production of ethanol often involves growing crops like corn, which can lead to land-use changes and environmental issues, such as deforestation and increased pesticide use. 7. Limited range: Due to ethanol's lower energy content, vehicles may have a shorter driving range on a full tank compared to gasoline. 8. Price fluctuations: Ethanol prices can be volatile, depending on factors like crop yields and government policies, which can make budgeting for fuel costs more unpredictable. 9. Cold weather performance: Ethanol can be problematic in very cold temperatures, as it can cause fuel system components to freeze or lead to difficulties starting the engine. Overall, while ethanol can offer some benefits, it also presents challenges and trade-offs that consumers and automakers need to consider when choosing a fuel source.

One way to manage the demand side of ethanol powered automobiles can be to chart a roadmap for consumers explaining how the increase in price of one vehicle is almost null because the petrol will be cheaper and ultimately the money they would otherwise spend on a fully petrol driven car will be far less than ethanol. This is an assumption that can be beautified for a layman’s dictionary. #amazingvideo ❤
Just like they used waste food for fuel, why don't they use an a usable sea water instead of ground water and allocate separate farm land for cultivation for fuel alone.
Not economically viable..and apart from that, you cannot control these things. Every farmer would love to get more money by planting sugarcane and such other crops. And if you make exclusive zones/ lands…corruption comes in.
The point you made about the water crisis which is clearly a prominent one but I believe the government should use water purification methods to be able to use the same for production of said bio fuels as we are not going to reuse it for consumption, or reuse waste water to steam-line in the process that will not affect consumption. As I also understand like sugar water also has byproducts so does water when it comes to households…
Pretty detailed and informative!! Nice work think school!!🤘 My next question: What is the update on hydrogen fuel?! India has been betting on it for quite sometime now
The govt is actually working on hydrogen vehicles for commercial purposes like lorries and buses The production for hydrogen fuel is also under working by reliance industry.

1) Please don't make flex fuel from Agriculture products because it requires lot of fresh water and water most precious resource that we don't understand it is nore precious than Oil. We should focus to extract ethenol from waste.. 2) We should also ban export of wter intensive crops and its derivatives such as rice and sugar.. 3) Biggest importer of Rice is China. But China can produce lot more rice than it need but it import because China knows that Rice required lot of water. Indirectly China is importing fresh Water from India.
Bamboo presents a compelling solution to supply-side challenges. It boasts remarkable water efficiency in comparison to sugarcane, exhibiting an extended lifespan of 80-120 years after initial planting. Certain bamboo species can yield as much as 50-100 tons per acre annually. India's tropical climate provides an ideal environment for bamboo cultivation, capable of thriving in diverse soil types, including high-salinity soils. Furthermore, bamboo surpasses sugarcane in ethanol production while exhibiting rapid growth, outpacing most other plant species on Earth. It also contributes significantly to oxygen production, surpassing other plants by 35%, consequently aiding in carbon dioxide sequestration from the atmosphere. Prominent figures such as Mr. Nitin Gadkari have highlighted bamboo's potential in various conferences. I encourage you to consider creating a dedicated video on this specific topic 😊
Main question is on road and showroom price. Considering we are paying 15-40% extra on showroom price. If the showroom price is going to increase while giving subsidy for on road price. There will still be 1-2lac difference. And by the time we go past 50% ethanol by 2050 or 2060. New source or better ev with more better mileage will be available
Mr. Nitin Gadkari should become an irrigation minister in next 5 yr term. We'll witness hundreds of river and canal projects, which will eventually help farmers to produce more ethanol.
Great study, but i think to much dependancy on ethanol using such a water intensive crop such as sugarcane can prove to be devastating, instead we should try to focus more on Biogas

If we are able to reduce our dependence on crude oil by increasing the ethanol content in fuel, will the demand for electric vehicles be hindered by the reduced fuel cost?
Who said prices of fuel will be reduced, it will never. There used to be big differences in price of petrol, diesel and CNG and all have reached at almost the same level. If crude price falls then also there is no reduction in prices (though in theory petroleum prices are deregulated and depends on market prices). So only govt will benefit from this as it will save its Dollars, but common people will suffer, as food inflation will increase, and people's with vehicles have low mileage but costly vehicles. And what will be the maintenance cost of those flex fuel vehicles ? I am personally waiting for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, as it will be the cleanest and cheapest fuel available.
Usually your research is on point but this time you missed on a very important demerit of E20 blended fuel. That's on millions of existing BS4 & BS6(pre 2023) vehicles. Ethanol tends to attract moisture and lead to rapid rusting of parts hampering the vehicles badly. This might lead to huge losses to the masses who already have 2-3 year old vehicles. All vehicles sold pre-2023 were upto E10 compliant but govt has suddenly pushed E20 fuel into market & this is a bad move affecting millions of vehicles. Expecting people to discard 2-3 year old vehicles and go for E20/Flex compliant vehicles is just inhuman. I know this comment will mostly be ignored or will vanish in the 1000 others but would appreciate if you can address this important point.

Because ethanol needs crops which consume more water Many companies are investing huge in electrifying the India and also there is a concept of hydrogen fuel which is invested huge by most top company in India Which of this gonna rule or get better for india.
Hello @Thinkschool, cultivation of Rice & Sugarcane takes 1/3 of the country's total water resources. Where we can see major water crisis in summer across the country. This is going to be not a game changer but a disaster in making 😅
@@ThinkSchool There is also a solution to it. If production of sugarcane is shifted to states where water is easily available like West Bengal, Orissa, Assam etc. Then we won't have to worry about any water crisis.
I have a doubt and hopefully some one could clarify. What are the impacts to produce plants which are going to be used for biofuel as they consume unreasonable amounts of geound water which has impacts of making soil a dessert. Are we develoing any new varieties to go around this issue ?
We can use rotten crops as well and bamboo is good alternative. Its not decided whether which crop will be used. Govt is still materializing the policy. Bamboo uses far less water and can be used to produce ethanol.
Ethanol Blending has been well known about for decades. It has been the apathy of politicians to take the necessary steps to take control of their own future.
The longer you leave external circumstances in charge of your future whether as individual or organisation or country… maintain control of what is important.
I have a bad feeling that even if oil marketing companies sell petrol/diesel at 15 Rupees, the government will simply increase the excise duty levied by 85 and the final price will be 100 Rupees only. For example, despite importing crude oil at a discount from Russia, no benefit to the consumer was passed by government
I believe the scrappage policy will also play a vital role in the adoption of alternate fuel vehicles. Also, electrification of vehicles will take time and a full scale adoption is decades away. In the interim, this will have its own place in the economy.
This is one of the best episodes as I am currently studying Food Biotechnology its litrally amazing you made it so easy to understand for everyone . Thanks for the video
The main problem which no one is talking about is that the whole world is confused about what should be the next innovation for the automotive sector. Normally people buy 4 wheelers for at least 10 years and which can be extended to 5-10 years extra. So every time someone thinks that one particular thing is the solution it creates problems. Nitin Gadkari himself has promoted Hydrogen powered vehicles before that doesn't mean that's going to be a hit because the engineering has to workout for its mass production. Similarly if the govt. keeps increasing the ethanol percentage in the fuel then it will cause a lot of problems because engines don't change themselves just because of the govt policies. I think the government should first understand these concepts before taking actions. Otherwise it will create a lot of chaos in the automotive market.
Blind Spots: 1. Brazil oil imports fell mostly due to domestic production of oil. 2. Ethanol can be produced from agri-waste too so impact on food consumption can be decreased. 3. Why is Ethanol blended petrol priced more than pure petrol even when oil price is higher than 90 USD per barrel? 4. Future is likely to have both Flex, Hydrogen and EV hybrid vehicles, so great incentive for everybody to go ahead with innovation.
2014 me kisi ne sapna dikhaya tha 45-50 ₹ petrol ka aur 120 tak pahuch gaye. Ab aap bol rahe hai 15 ₹ kahi hum 220 tak na pahuch jaye... Not saying you are wrong just thinking about our country political events and decision.

While ethanol-fueled cars have some advantages, they also come with several downsides:

One more thing that can help is bio diesel made from sea weed. It uses sea water and has we all know we have plenty od sea water around India
Welcome to Flex vehicles. Nice presentation.
I believe the scrappage policy will also play a vital role in the adoption of alternate fuel vehicles. Also, electrification of vehicles will take time and a full scale adoption is decades away. In the interim, this will have its own place in the economy.

Bamboo has been discovered to contain 33% starch and cheapest source to produce ethenol.
Blind Spots:
