  • In today's episode, we've got a LIFTED Honda Ridgeline Truck Review! Yep, you read that right, this Honda Ridgeline is lifted 3.5 inches and is running nearly 31" tires! It's a really cool setup and we think the truck looks awesome. The kit is made by Traxda and our friends at Coeur d'Alene Honda installed it. We'll show you the truck and take you for a ride in this video, so grab something delicious to drink and come along with Uncle Jake for this episode of Lifted 2022 Honda Ridgeline Truck review!

    Update! CdA Honda has decided they don't want to sell these lifted Ridgelines despite the overwhelming response to this video. We're looking for another Honda dealer that wants the aftermarket performance business, and we'll update again when we find one. If you're a Honda dealer and you'd like us to send all this business your way, contact us!
    Want to do it yourself? Here's the link to the Traxda website: traxdaliftkits.com/product/ki...
    Already got a Ridgeline but don't want to install the lift yourself? Perfection Tire in Post Falls, Idaho has you covered. If you don't live in update Idaho, drive your Ridgeline up, drop it off in the morning, and they guarantee to have it done by the end of the day. Stay at the Coeur d'Alene resort and make a mini vacation out of it! Or, Perfection Tire will be happy to coordinate shipping your truck to them for the install if you don't want to drive it. Talk to Chad Peters 208-773-2178 or online at www.perfectiontire.com. Tell um Motors & Mischief sent you!
    Lastly, our understanding is that installing this lift does NOT void the warranty on your Ridgeline. Check out the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. Manufacturers cannot deny a warranty claim from an aftermarket part unless they can prove the aftermarket park caused the problem. Some dealerships don't want to mess with aftermarket stuff so they just give you a blanket claim that any aftermarket mods will void the warranty. Our advice is to call around to your local Honda dealers until you find one that understands the Act and is happy to work on modified vehicles.

    May be a stupid question, but instead of wheel spacers could you just get offset rims to match what the spacer does or not?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 роки тому +7

      That's not a stupid question at all, its actually a really good one. Yes, you could absolutely get wheels with the correct offset to stance the truck properly, and ideally that's the way you'd go. Properly installed, wheel spacers, in our personal (extensive) experience are perfectly safe as long as they are properly installed. However, if you're not careful, they can have a tendency to let the bolts holding them on back off and then you loose your wheel. That won't happen with a wheel that has a large offset instead of spacers. However, custom offsets like that typically require custom wheels, which tend to be very expensive, much more than the $150 a good set of spacers costs. So at the end of the day, your idea is the better one but for cost and availability, most people go spacers. Thanks for commenting!

    great looking truck! How much of a compromise resulted in regards to lifting 3-3.5 have vs. stock? if not too drastic, i might consider these specs. I can't stand the on road comfort of the other mid-size trucks in the market. How does this lift affect the geometry of the suspension? Do components wear out faster?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 роки тому +8

      They do not, no, that's part of the reason for adjusting the suspension forward with the lower control arm mounts, to keep everything in the same geometry as the factory design. Check out Traxda's website, they've got a pretty good section explaining how they use CNC machining and robotic welders on the parts, and the fit and finish that we observed is really high quality. The larger tires and wheels will put extra stresses on the hubs, but that's true of any vehicle you put larger tires and wheels on. Thanks for the question!

    How much "actual ground clearance" was added? I think stock, the Ridgeline has 7-ish inches... What does this lift add?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 роки тому +6

      So the lift is 3.5" in the front, and then the tires are 1.5"-ish larger in diameter. We didn't measure the actual clearance (we'll know for next time), but that should be about 3.5" of lift and 3/4" of tire, so about 4" more of clearance? If we can, we'll stop by and measure it and repost here but that's going to be really close. Thanks for the question!

    So im wanting to lift my RL. I have a lifetime Powertrain warranty on my truck. Im wondering if i do lift it will it void my warranty.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Рік тому

      So thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Act of 1975, simply having an aftermarket part or modifying your vehicle cannot void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states that a dealer must prove that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage. That said, there are dealerships out there that will give you a hard time if your vehicle is modified at all, and there are other dealerships that go the complete opposite and will install lifts, superchargers and whatnot on brand new vehicles before they even sell them. Our local Ford dealership is like that; they'll install a lift and and a supercharger on your brand new F-150 and then they'll make sure you have no warranty issues if there's a problem with an unrelated part from Ford. So our advice is to talk to the Honda dealerships near you, tell them what you're thinking of doing and see what they say. If you have one that freaks out, there's no point in getting the lift until after you're out of warranty. But our experience has been looking around a little will find you a dealer willing to help, even if it means you have to drive a little farther to get to them. Thanks for the question!

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 роки тому +2

      We don't have extensive testing on this rig, of course, but our guess would be they will hold up just fine. Honda makes a good product, and if you're starting with a quality CV joint, the increased angle shouldn't be a major detriment to the part. We say this having put thousands of miles on lifted Chevys, Fords and Jeeps that also use CV joints, as well as just the general industry acceptance of lift kits that go 3, 6, 8 inches or more on vehicles with independent front suspensions and CV joints. That said, if we get any negative feedback from the owner of this rig, we'll be sure to post it for you guys. Great question, thanks for asking!

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 роки тому +9

      Yeah we felt like they really nailed it. So we talked to our friends at CdA Honda and they said that each rig is different of course, because it depends on what the truck starts out with, so if you want a brand new lifted Ridgeline, give them a call and they'll give you a price. HOWEVER, if you already have a Ridgeline and just need it lifted, Perfection Tire in Post Falls, Idaho is your go to. They have done a ton of these Ridgeline's, and they're not afraid to do custom work. For a 3.5" lift like what's in the video, the install can run as high as $2200. The price of the lift is $1500 so you'd be looking at tops of $3700. If you don't want to go with the 3.5" lift, Perfection Tire can install a 2.5" for $1200 plus the cost of the lift which can run $1000-$1500. If you'd like a for real quote, call Chad over at Perfection Tire (208-773-2178) and tell him Uncle Jake sent you!

      The JSport kit is only good for 3/4" lift in the rear using their 13-002 kit. This kit lifts the Ridgeline 3" in the rear and 3.5" in the front, which is a massive difference in comparison. The JSport kit won't allow 31" tires to fit because it doesn't do anything to relocate the front axle like the Traxda kit does. If you only want to lift your Ridgeline a little and don't want bigger tires, the JSport kit is great and as you say easy to get installed. But if you want the big lift and the bigger tires, the Traxda kit is the way to go. We put a bunch of info about getting it installed in the description. Thanks for the comment!

      Great question! This truck did not feel top heavy to us, and Uncle Jake was surprised at how "factory-like" the ride was, compared to a non-lifted truck. This particular example did have wheel spacers to widen the stance, and that may have contributed to us feeling more confident hooning it through the corners. To sum up, did not feel top heavy at all. Thanks for the comment!

I love the way the lift looks, and I even think the red accents for the suspension components and skid plate will look great. I find it interesting that if you call Coeur d’ Alene Honda their service department said they DO NOT install third party lift kits on Ridgelines. It voids the warranty apparently. So this video doesn’t quite add up. I would love to hear a reply to this.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Рік тому +2

      Yep, we’ve gone over this in the comments but happy to address it again. The sales manager at CdA Honda, who owns the truck in this video, told us his dealership was gearing up to offer this service. Then, the general manager put the stop on it and said they actually wouldn’t. We’ve included the info for Perfection Tire in Post Falls, who will install the kit and has done lots of them. Regarding the dealerships claim that the kit will void the warranty, you unfortunately spoke with someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about, and that does happen at dealerships all the time. Installing this kit does NOT void the warranty, per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. That’s how you see all those lifted trucks and Jeeps offered by other dealers. Honda won’t warranty the new suspension, but why would they? It’s not their suspension. But they’ll warranty the rest of the vehicle and the suspension system is warrantied by the suspension company. Dealerships come in all shapes and sizes and our advice is to call around until you find one that does performance mods to their new vehicles; they’re for sure out there. We thought Honda CdA was going to be one of those but sadly they pivoted so we’ll have to find another. Thanks for the question.

    changing the driving dynamics to that extend.... I mean, if you know better than the Honda Engineers... go for it

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Рік тому +1

      So its not actually about thinking the lift company knows better than Honda. Honda did not design the Ridgeline to be a lifted truck. If they had, they would have made a Honda version of the Ford Raptor. People have been lifting F-150's for decades, but until Ford did it themselves, there was no lifted F-150's from factory. And interestingly enough, when Ford did create the Raptor, the system they used to lift it is identical to a lot of the lift manufacturers that were lifting F-150s prior to the Raptor. So its not about engineering, its about Honda wanting to choose the height that sells the most Ridgelines. If they did sell just a lifted Ridgeline, would they sell as many as if they sold it at the height it is currently? Answer, probably not. Since the majority of people who buy a Ridgeline would never want to lift it. But that doesn't mean that in 5 years you won't see a factory R-spec Ridgeline that uses essentially the same lift kit as this model but from the factory (and there are quite a few instances where manufacturers have gone to aftermarket companies for their lifts for special edition vehicles). Thanks for commenting!

      Yep, exactly. Just like Ford changed the steering and driving dynamics of the Raptor by lifting it. Lifting a vehicle for sure changes the steering and driving dynamics. But change isn't a bad thing and just because the vehicle's steering and driving dynamics are changed doesn't mean they can't be safe and perform well. Yep, you're absolutely correct. We're truck guys, cause honestly a stock Honda Ridgeline isn't a vehicle that would make it on our list of vehicles to own; they seem like really great vehicles just not our style. So this review wasn't so much from a how's it compare to stock standpoint as how does it feel compared to the factory rides of trucks that we do like, like our Raptor, Ford Ranger, etc. So what Uncle Jake was saying is the ride is acceptable enough that if it came that way from a manufacturer, no one would be upset. We weren't trying to say it rides the same as stock. But that's a great point, appreciate you making it and taking the time to post!

      I apologize; I didn't mean for it to sound like I was ridiculing you. I also am a truck guy. I'm in my 60s, and I just sold my 19 Silverado fully loaded with the 6.2 V8. I bought it in January of 20 and sold it 6 weeks ago for 7k less than I paid for it with 49k miles on it. The new buyer paid 4k more than I did new. It may seem odd, and I still find it hard to believe I'm doing it, but in three weeks, I'll take delivery on a white colored Ridgeline Black Edition . I dressed it up a bit with some accessories but no lift. The main reason I chose the truck/car was the ride, and it has a bed. We travel frequently and I like to drive my truck. My wife drives a 2018 Yukon, and you can't beat the ride in it. The thing is, she has never liked the ride in any of my trucks on long trips, but the Ridgeline is the best ride of any truck I've ever driven. I've owned F250 Platinum editions, a GMC Denali, and this Silverado. I usually go all in . We live out in West Texas
      (Truck County), but everywhere we go, it's a 5 hour drive. So she wins, and I still drive a truck, technically speaking. The fact is that the Ridgeline will do everything I need the truck to do, and it's 20 k cheaper than what I was driving. If I had my way, I'd have a Raptor like you have. I also love the Ram TRX. I had a friend put a 9000 dollar lift on his Silverado, and it drove over washboard roads like a Cadillac on new pavement.
      Speaking of lifts and conversions, have you guys done a video on what lifts do to the safety mitigation these new trucks have? The Ridgeline conversion in your video looked great, but the SI says that too much lift and you've basically done away with the Lane departure, and Lane keeps assist functions. This Ridgeline in the video was at the dealer, so I'm wondering if they were able to get the correct recalibration of the windshield camera and the radar behind the Honda emblem. I'm not sure about Honda, but Toyota SI says no lift other than the factory. I own a business that requires recalibration after certain jobs we do. Chevy and GMC have their two inch lift that's factory, and I know the Raptor comes ready to go, but I'm wondering if doing these videos you guys are aware of the repercussions of changing the dynamic of the truck? I think it would make a good video if you haven't already done so .

      Oh man, no need for an apology, we weren't offended at all! And honestly, its totally fine if you were ridiculing us, we 're more interested in everyone having a good time than looking like we're smart. And some of our viewers get off some pretty good zingers at our expense (check out our Two Dummies t-shirt on our website!) but we love it, so no worries at all! The market is crazy right now, we're not surprised that you were able to get that much more for your truck. Times are nuts. And we're totally with you. Jake loves his Raptor but Joel wants a TRX. Or a first gen Duramax with a Banks Six Gun kit on it. But you're totally correct, ride is king on long drives. And the Ridgeline is a good truck, and we agree with you on that too. Its a truck, it has a bed and it hauls and tows. If you don't need to tow 15,000 pounds then why have a truck that can do it? Especially when what does fit the bill is $20k cheaper, as you said. As to the camera systems and the recalibration, you bring up a good point we hadn't considered. Time was you could just lift a truck as high as you wanted and not worry about it as long as it went down the road mostly straight but that's not necessarily the case any longer. We do have some manufacturer experience and we know that sometimes the no lift policy is for liability, not because there's truly anything wrong with lifting it. But sometimes not. But you're right, that would make a great video, maybe something like the eFuel video Joel did a while back. We're gonna do some research and we'll let you know what we find. Stay tuned!
