    A few other tips I don't mention in the video:
    Always test the rear brake before wheelieing
    Maintain rear brake covered if going high
    Always land it straight, landing with a crooked tire might set you on a nasty tank slapper (see 2:13)
    Accelerate before setting down the wheel for a smooth landing
    One or two fingers for the clutch, must have good grip on the bars
    Do not pull on bars, let the engine do the work for you
    Not a lot of visibility during the wheelie, might have to pick a side to look forward (unless standing)
    Practicing uphill might help, doesn't allow you to pick up so much speed
    (will update as I think of more)

      @@Kro8938 that track in the video was only a 1/8th, I think my best was a 6.9 or something like that. On a full 1/4, I have ran 10.5 at 136 mph. It's a handful to launch.

      Great Video which i can totally relate to. I'm pretty sure it could hammer out 4 gears. But, I would not recommend the beginner even contemplate this as its going to end badly. Take lessons at a wheelie school or buy a dirt bike.

      Definitely 100% make sure to set down with your tire straight, I fucked up recently and fucked the engine on my bandit 1250 because I couldn't recover from the tank slapper and crashed.

    Hit a mid corner bump once going 110 kph (little over 60mph) on my A2 bike Kawasaki AR6F (35kw 48hp). Front wheel jacked up and had to stay on the power to keep turning. Looking back fun expirence, back then after the corner took it slow. Had my licence for about 3 to 4 months. Now 4 months later I've calmed down my riding style but still had alot of things happen swerving cars, slippery road. Nearly losing rear and or front. And the thing is im loving ever second on it.

    100% accurate info. I learned with power wheelies on Pani V4S and wheelie control on 1. Very controlled and with some electronic assist. My bike had dry clutch and clutch ups were close to impossible on that bike. Then I got Gen 3 SDR and that bike had only wheelie control On or Off. I progressed quickly on SDR and with its easy hydraulic clutch and massive torque it made it way easier, but I agree light dirt bike and super motos are probably easiest. I find GP shift much easier to shift up when doing high wheelies. In fact with standard shift I don’t think I even can, but on SDR I can click thru 5th and pull them way into triple digits 👍

    -Any chance of wheelies / powerwheelies on dynamic mode ?
    - when will you give us a test review on the 2020 xr ?
    - Multistrada vs Xr, would you switch to the italians ?

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  3 роки тому +5

      Thanks LeGone. Dynamic has wheelie control enabled so it will only let you go a little high. However, if you clutch it up it can still come up. I'm trying to get my hands on a 2020 S1000XR so I can make a video for the channel, but no luck yet. The Multistrada is a great bike, but I much prefer the inline 4 and electronics on the BMW. If they make a sporty version of the Multistrada V4 (with a 17" front wheel) then I might get interested.

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks Troy. Both Road and Dynamic have wheelie control, so it will only come up about 6" off the ground. However, be mindful that this is not a foolproof system, with a tuned bike I've had instances that the bike has wheelied in Dynamic mode. In some instances you can also bypass wheelie control if you do a clutch-up.

    Hey CR, long time since I have seen a new video. Always enjoy your videos. If you would like tips from a pro, look up Doug Domokos, wheelie king (1980's). I was never a wheelie person. My RD-350 would pull the front end up in 1st gear when it hit 6K rpms. It would rev to 13500, so the power band was wide and strong. Wish I could add a pic here, that bike was cool for 1976 time frame. I had to learn to keep it down by slipping the clutch and keeping weight forward. I always had the thought, I'm only on two wheels as it is, why take control of direction and braking away even for a second. Have fun man, it looks like you do pretty good to me. More videos please.

      @@CubanRider In a late 70's early 80's bike mag, it was explained that he put an electric motor hub in the front wheel to keep the wheel spinning to help with stability and steering on his long wheelie bike. Gyroscopic effect. Way cool at the time. I remember him being the opening show at races where he would wheelie around the entire race track prior to the main event.

  • @bernhtp
    @bernhtp 3 роки тому +1

    Good presentation. I sometimes do a small wheelie hop but never hold it except for natural power wheelies at the track on corner exit. But there I leave the wheelie control on so the front doesn't go up by much more than a foot or so. Maybe I'll practice just to develop the skill.
    Do the linked brakes on the XR enable you to squeeze the brake handle to get enough rear brake to bring it down? Do you set the slipper clutch to max engine braking?

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  3 роки тому

      Thanks man. The linked brakes is something I've asked myself but never tried. To be truthful I don't want to go high enough to find out. No engine braking settings on this bike, but I would assume higher engine braking would help (like it does on the KTM 1290).

    Hi there Cuban Rider!
    Have you ever had to swap out your engine?
    How is it that your bike still runs really good despite all the very high revs (yeah frequent oil changes🙄)…
    Did you ever experience the dreaded camshaft failure on your model?
    You’ve made me have so much faith in the XR that after selling off my 2018 model (which I owned for 1 year with just 9k miles), I just had to go and buy a late 2016 model (for the tun-ability) with 20k on the dash, but then swapped out the engine for one with less than 3k on it.

    • @ogyedanjuma7413
      @ogyedanjuma7413 Рік тому

      The 20k engine runs great but I’d rather have it as a source of spare parts, while the new, barely broken-in engine does its job.

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  Рік тому +2

      These engines are really solid, no issues with the engine on either of mine. Mine only has 13k miles because I found another 2016 still in the showroom with no miles, but my original XR I traded it in with 35k miles and it ran very strong. I do keep up with the oil changes, roughly every 1k miles if I do a couple track days. I'm not riding it much on the streets these days, otherwise 3-5k miles for oil changes depending on how it's ridden.

      None at all, it's all on your wrist, you could loop the bike if you don't control it. Since traction control is still enabled, if there's some slip while attempting to wheelie, the ECU will kill the action, but that doesn't happen often.

    I'm curious how well you can wheelie in Dynamic mode?

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  25 днів тому

      It won't let you power wheelie (most of the time), but sometimes you can still clutch it up.

    Halo, where i can buy dynamic pro package for my xr please?

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  3 роки тому

      Jody it's not a package, it's just a plug that comes included with the bike and you connect under the seat. If you get the bike from another owner, just ask for it. If you buy the bike from a dealer they should be able to get one.

    • @JodyTirta
      @JodyTirta 3 роки тому

      alright then i will ask first, because there is no option for dynamic pro in my bike system, so sad if i cant use that mode 😅, btw thanks for information

    Can everything you said apply for the same bike but 900 instead of 1000?

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  3 роки тому

      Not everything. The 900 is going to have a different powerband, it might power-wheelie, it might not (it should). For the clutch-up, yes, it mostly applies. The principles applies to most bikes. This video is more tailored to the 1st gen S1000XR, the 2020+ has different wheelie control settings.

    Ah yes I was looking for this, but i'm curious how the electronics affect wheelieing I heard somewhere that if you put the bike in regular Dynamic there is still some wheelie control but not as much as road so you can just hold it without it allowing you to loop, idk how much I'd trust that though and never tried myself

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider  3 роки тому

      @@CubanRider A bit of a personal update, I've had the XR for a bit now, all thanks to you. Found a pristine 2015 with 15000 miles, all your must do mods already done to it (evotech bar ends, rad guard, crash protection) It's a fully specced model too with all the boxes + bmw navi for 9000 gbp (12400 usd) I've had a chance to experience all the electronics and I have to say Dynamic mode is really good for getting used to being on 1 wheel. It does keep you from going high but it's really nice to build confidence on how and when the wheel comes up and getting used to it being up in the air. This bike is magic. Will need a screen on it though cos i'm getting some buffeting even in the upper position.

  • @seanc6754
    @seanc6754 2 роки тому

    Yeah definitely don't try to learn wheelies in first gear. My 99r1 only had 150 crank hp and it did not like 1st gear wheelies at all let alone having 200 wheel hp..plus in second you have enough rotation speed on the back tire that it will keep you vertical..in 1st gear your bike can come up at weird angles and make it difficult and scary to learn so just take cube's advice

      This bike can be intimidating. A dirt bike, DRZ 400, or even a MT07 is a lot easier to learn on. The skills transfer and the XR is actually quite nice once you get to a balance point.
