      Oh yes, this seems to be a good direction then. And it makes sense as the XR should be doing exactly all that in such a manner. Good choice!

    I had a 2017 xr and had a hot start issue. I traded it in for a GS exclusive. Keep the GS for a year, it was a cool bike but I missed the XR, so I traded it in for a 2020 XR Carbon. Now I'm happy again :)

      This is great to hear and if you like the bike based on what it offers, it means that it really is for you. Awesome news and definitely please don't watch the video on "reasons not to choose/reasons to avoid the XR". Thanks for all your videos, I have watched many of them. I bought the BMWs1000XR 2021 in racing red at a great price in New Zealand in December and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I was inspired to buy the GS after a lot of youtube research including your videos, but coming from a 4 cylinder background was happy to go ahead with the XR at the right price, saving many thousands compared to the GS. New stock is hard to find here and a $5000 discount from new retail is a great deal. The seat takes a bit of getting used to as it is quite firm but.. I have now sold my BMW K1600GT which was fabulous and comfortable yet heavy to manoeuvre around at rest. I find the XR to be a great compromise as it has a nice riding position and performs extremely well. It can cruise nicely in top gear on cruise control at 50KM should I wish or reach over 100KM in first gear easily.
    I did test ride the multistrada v4 but they are top dollar here and I actually preferred the BMW...
    All the best V-Told I enjoy your content!

    As I once commented, I own a BMW 1250 RT and it is definitely a great bike. I do mostly motorway tours with it but it is a very versatile bike, at least that’s what I think of it as I ride it daily. But it is a gentleman’s big tourer. A family bike.
    On the other hand, the s 1000 XR, has a different nature. It’s a wolf in sheepskin clothing. It looks, and can behave, like an adventure bike, or a touring bike (if you put the panniers on it), but in its true colors it is a sports bike! 😁😆
    After all the compliments you made and rightfully done, it is something of a different kind, and that’s another strong point for this exquisite machine!
    I do everything with my RT. I even do some light off road trails (gravel roads, mostly, in the dry weather), but this?…This is a Beast! Under sheepishly clothes. Very near to perfection.
    I also love my other bike of passion, the SDGT. But when I go out with it, everyone immediately knows what I’m riding. That KTM V Twin engine with 1290 cc, and two massive piston cilindres containing 175 Hp and all the torque power you could desire, makes it a master piece of motorcycle engineering and Art…only to be betrayed by some nit pick imperfections concerning electronic flying incompressible malfunctioning messages that, I am sure, had been planted there, for the exact reason and general principle, that nothing created by Mankind or its works or deeds can’t be perfect!
    And that’s also the reason why, BMW S1000 XR exists. One more excellent video V-told. Keep on making this pearls!
    Thank you for that. 👌

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't ridden R1250RS but its previous generation - R1200RS. I'm not sure if they're not too far away from each other and that may make the differences between them quite clear. I feel that the RS is a softer sports bike with a boxer engine, which doesn't suit me personally in such a combination, while S1000XR is now a comfy bike with a sports bike engine. And that's a more interesting combination to me than a sports bike with a non-sporty engine. I hope that this helps. It's also challenging to define what RS is exactly for - I've got to give BMW that.

    • @tomclare7474
      @tomclare7474 2 роки тому

      @@VToldsMotoShow Thanks so much for your thoughts, I do agree that they’re very different bikes. However, I was wondering if the RS makes more sense as a daily rider because of all the torque it has available at lower speeds? I totally get that the XR is almost the best of both worlds from a comfortable sports bike point-of-view, I currently ride a GSXR so the idea of similar performance and all that comfort is very appealing. But is the RS more fun at road speeds because of all the low end torque? With the XR I feel like you’re only having fun at speeds that risk losing your licence…..😬😂 Thanks again 👍🏻

      I wish I had ridden the SDGT but it seems virtually impossible to find one to ride it where I live. I actually like the way it looks but I'm not sure what it's like to ride. There are guys here who moved from this KTM to S1000XR and I guess that may tell us something. However, Super Duke GT is so rare that it's perhaps not a very representative thing to even mention.

    It's a great machine. I Own a 2020 XR. I would take issue with only one thing here. It's comfortable as a touring bike but the gas mileage is poor and coupled with a relatively small fuel tank for a touring bike require frequent fuel stops on your trip.

    About competition, KTM 1290 GT ? Or even BMW 1250 RS ? ✌

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 роки тому +1

      I'm personally very interested in a 1290 Super Duke GT but I've never ridden any. Now as for R1250RS, I bet it may be very similar to R1200RS, especially in regard to its character and yeah, it's a pleasant motorcycle - not too extreme but with some torquey punch in the low revs. I find a combination of a "softcore" sports bike and a boxer engine weird. You sit a lot more like on a sports bike than what you experience on an XR, yet the performance isn't there. Now in the XR performance is one of its main features. That would be my summary provided that R1200RS is indeed just like R1250RS. I hope this helps.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 роки тому +1

      I'm glad the video was helpful. In this second generation I would believe that it could be a great machine to ride with a passenger. I haven't tested the rear seat that much of course, but for you as a rider, I believe that having so much performance delivered so smoothly and with such comfortable suspension now, it could be a fantastic cruising motorcycle. And to ride more crazy-like on a twisty road - since "cruising" might've suggested highway riding.

      @@VToldsMotoShow Thanks for your response V-Told. I’m seeing a number of reviewers say the same as you though: until you get it above 7,000rpm you won’t get the benefit of the engine & by the time you are there you’re already into licence busting speeds! Wow, you look like a baby riding that monster. I was thinking to buy this, but it's so big. I'm 182 cm. Would this be ok as a first bike, since it's only angry at higher revs and also has Modes? Would this be better for a beginner while riding a tame Mode?

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  11 місяців тому

      Try it yourself as in a video you may misinterpret the visual aspects. The bike doesn't look or feel overwhelmingly large to me with 183 cm tall, so pretty much your height. I'm not sure that it would be a good beginner's bike as it's not the easiest to manage at the lowest speeds and that may cause all sorts of challenges. I wouldn't worry about the engine at all as it's super linear and predictable. Nothing aggressive at low RPM, so automatically at low speeds too.

      Cześć, ja bym raczej wybrał R1250GS. S1000XR jest ciekawy i silnik to petarda na wyższych obrotach, ale zabawa jest dopiero kiedy się rozkręci. Z kolei do miasta to nie za bardzo, bo tu GS jest o wiele bardziej szczęśliwy i zwinny. No i ciągnąc od samego dołu, łatwiej mu wyprzedzać niemal zawsze - i finalnie można to zrobić sprawniej, bo bez żadnych redukcji. Naprawdę dopracowany sprzęt, w dodatku z wałem zamiast łańcucha. Ja osobiście szedłbym w tę stronę, choć dźwięk i brzęczenie boxera w GS-ie mocno mnie odpychają :). Gdybym dzisiaj miał coś kupować, to zestawiłbym GS-a z dwoma KTM-ami 1290 Super Adventure - wersją S i R.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I agree that it's personal. I myself would take the XR for three reasons: 1. comfortable, upright position that is easy on one's back and wrists (S1000R, so the naked is not bad here but still less comfy to just sit on), 2. more comfortable suspension in the second generation of S1000XR, 3. if I'd want to ride that 20% outside of the city, XR is your bike thanks to wind protection and better stability when acceleration at higher speeds. On the other hand, S1000R feels more agile riding in the city and seems to be more encouraging to ride because of that. I've got a strong personal preference for comfort and XR wins here, but trying to put that aside, S1000R would likely be more fun in the city. And I mean noticeably more fun. I hope this helps.

    The GS is realistically the perfect next bike for my needs, but I think it’s just butt ugly, and I’m also one of those people that likes to stand out a bit from the crowd. Being one of many many other GS bikes while out on tour would make me feel more like I’m part of some clique than owning something that is purely my own. It’s a shame because it is genuinely a fantastic bike, but I know if I got one, it’d be nothing more to me than just a tool for the job and for some, that’s exactly what a bike is to them, but for me, I need that emotional connection to my steed. The XR however, satisfies those very few faults of mine the GS has.
