I love how Steph has managed to carry her drawing style over into crochet. The little yellow eyebrows and toadstool nose.

Adam, I’m a long time crocheted and knitter and I’m also amazed at how fast Steph is picking this up! It’s not just you, she’s doing very well. I clapped with joy when I saw the mushroom!

When I'm deep in my depression and I can't do much besides draw and avoid self harm, I watch doodle date videos. It feels like I'm drawing with friends instead of all on my own. I don't even really draw "well" but I do it because it calms me. You inspired me to start a few years ago and it has been HUGE for helping me survive some of the hardest times of my life. THANK YOU for being this light in the world. Thank you for letting me be an 'art friend'

Little trick for the backing of the plastic eyes and nose they can slip off, I melt and flatten the screw part of the eyes once they are through the backing ( it takes two second with a lighter they melt quickly and the eyes don’t pop off ) you can’t really fix an eye that pops out therefore I highly recommend doing that. Good job on your crochet Steph you are doing amazing 😊

the beauty of crafting is that at any point you can just decide to make a little guy and then boom, little guy exists now! A christmas pudding! How delightful!
My lab safety science memory is when my teacher was showing off reactive metals and was about to drop potassium in water before realising she wasn't wearing any goggles, so she had to shoot off to get them. Good move on her part lol! The other one was a teacher telling us about how the college I went to started using sign-in/out sheets for their radioactive samples- one time a person had forgotten to put them back and it caused a bit of a security incident. No harm done but they were a lot stricter about record keeping after!
Oh i remember that experiment as well! science is scary but also awesome LOL

I don’t know why but whenever you do the sketchbook the first thing I focus on is Adam showing off the first page label “Adam the man stud” sticker! But Steph you are doing so good with the crocheting! Can’t wait to see you make your first chunky blanket or a Pokémon plush!

@@DoodleDate I just reread my message and realised I made I mistake as I was thinking my daughter doesn't have a daughter 😂 😉 🤔 😳. I meant boyfriend sorry. Long story but unfortunately my daughter and I are estranged and have been since lockdown. Long story short but she came to stay with me for a while and we fell out. I think one of the issues was the guy I was seeing at the time. It's so sad as we were always so close when she was growing up or so I thought and we did things like watch your videos together and it made me so happy. I guess I didn't really appreciate how much until after the event and I would give anything to have that time back but that's not how life works unfortunately so that's why your videos give me a lot of comfort now but I always enjoyed them. 9:33 that is called "splitting". Basically your hook is going between the plies. It happens on good yarn too frankly. (More of a risk when you have finer needles/hooks because the thinner they are the easier it is to get between the plies. ) you're doing so well!! Sometimes btw yarn shops have knit/crochet nights (affectionately called "stitch and bitch"). You (if you wanted) could possibly check into that. Those nights are great because knitters/Crocheters are overall very happy to help and answer questions. Plus it's fun to sit in a small like minded group and just decompress no pressure and see what everyone else is working on.

You're doing so well, Steph! You can also insert amigurimi eyes after you close the amigurimi by using hot glue! Just dab some hot glue on the back of the eye and stick it in the amigurimi!

Literally no one asked for this but, I want to share my favourite hippo fact (plus some bonuses): Hippos excrete a pink-ish substance through their skin called hipposudoric acid. It is colloquially known as "hippo sweat" although it's not actually sweat at all. It acts as a natural sunscreen and antimicrobial substance to help them heal because hippos get in fights. In part it gets it's colour from oxidising as it leaves the skin.
So maybe that is one of the ingredients mr & mrs hippo are using to make their scientific mixture multipurpose 😂
Hippos are also more closely related to cetaceans (dolphins, whales) than to elephants or rhinos, which makes sense as far as being semiaquatic but they look like they're more related to pigs or elephants. Males are called bulls, females are called cows, and a baby is called a calf.
While confirming this stuff (I'd hate to give incorrect info) I also found a couple of other facts I have to share.
- Hippos don't float xD if they happen to go in a deep area of water (which they usually don't) they literally just bounce off the bottom because an adult is able to hold their breath for four to six minutes.
- Their top speed is about 30km/h or 19m/h (one time I saw a video where someone wandered into an area where there was a hippo at night and they had to run because the hippo chased them).
- Hippos are considered omnivores even though their diet is predominantly herbivorous and their digestive system isn't really adapted for meat sometimes they'll eat it if it's there (it is thought this happens when they're struggling for nutrients).
- The most common sound hippos make is known as a "wheeze honk" xD
- Unlike many other animals when a hippo appears to yawn it's actually a threat, most animals use yawning to show they're not in the mood to fight or to defer to another animal, but for a hippo it's more akin to bearing their teeth.
- There can be as many as 100 hippos in a pod 😮 There's usually 1 bull "in charge" and then lots of females, and the young males can stay as long as they defer to the head of the pod (this is one of the reasons for fighting).
- Hippos can't see very well, but their hearing is great. This can lead to them being a bit skittish, which is sometimes thought to be another reason why they fight.
- Hippos are so big that because they usually take the same paths to forage they can literally reshape waterways and make paths over time.
This isn't really a fact, just a suggestion to look up pictures of hippo calves because they're extra cute, especially the way the mamas nudge them in the water to help them bounce back up for air xD they kinda look to me like what you'd get if you mixed a pig, and a manatee.
This has been a comment of totally unsolicited hippo facts 😅 I've always had a special interest in animals, and hippos are a bit unusual and very interesting I think, and since they came up I'm now rambling about them xD

Those lil pokemon stamps are so cute! I have a lil pokemon stationery set with a pikachu stapler, a bulbasaur pencil sharpener and a jigglypuff tape dispenser that I think is from the 90s/early 2000's. I wish stuff like that was more widely available now, it's so darn cute!

Omg, I had those Pokémon roller stamps, except it’s Chansey, Ditto and Eevee. Also! I recently visited Japan and came across a book with the old school Pokémon where’s Waldo art that Adam showed a few videos ago (except it’s not a post card book). Apparently they still print them and also make new ones with the newer generation Pokémon.

About a year ago you two reviewed those aesthetic, but rather negatively reviewed Watercolours from Japan. You drew some pretty cute fish and water creatures with it. Furthermore you said you would review it again once a year passed. I would really like to see if they still hold up or if the colours really do perfrom diffrently, since the colours were rather expensive.
Adam, your drawing skills are really improving! Steph, I love your amigurumi crochet! You might find some better yarn in a charity shop. In the US, we call a charity shop a second-hand store. I look forward to seeing watching what else you guys create.
Adam, it is fine to use cheaper supplies to see if you like doing the project, but you don't want them so cheaply made that it is impossible to create a project. I look forward to buying your book, Adam.
