What a car! After spending a week with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio in Italy, I was genuinely blown away by its ability, a comfortable and practical SUV one minute, a sports/super car the next! Aside from the brilliant BMW X3 M40i, SUV's don't normally excite me, It is no wonder this car holds the Nurburgring SUV lap record, it destroys A/B roads.

the driving feel and great steering response is probably what alfa does best. and dare i say in terms of styling too?👀 this is much nicer looking than the x3, let’s be real
Careful Joe, you're getting a reputation for doing thorough, well reasoned reviews of nice machinery!. Everybody knows that UA-cam car channels must have an under-30's presenter who "owns" a supercar that he has five things he hates about it.

i don't watch Joe because i think he's the best, i watch Joe for entertaining videos like this with a proper all round review of a car. He spends some time with it and then reviews it, not 2 hours in and has figured it all out. As much as some people CBA to watch a video when its half hour long, it goes quicker than it feels. Most other car videos of 10 minutes long feel longer and have padded content to make it that long, you don;t get that here. What you do get is passion, feedback and a real sense of what it is really like. Keep up the good work, Joe.

Brilliant review. No music, straight to the point and your enthusiasm for this car is genuine. Picking up a 19’ Nring edition up next week and driving it back to Texas with my son. Despite what some people have said about reliability, I’ve heard they’re quite solid and watching your review gives me confidence it will be a great experience.

The look on the face of anyone driving a Stelvio (or even Giulia) Quadrifoglio is everything. I don't really like the exterior design but still I wish I owned one, since I believe driving experience is paramount

I am watching this video after the latest Giulia QV vid, I somehow missed this video, and as you pointed out it does have quite low views. It was busy for me at the time of uploading so I might have skipped it, but what an incredible review this was Joe! How about having this replace the 7 series and you just become a getaway driver with this thing ;) You can see how much effort went into this, really well made and nothing bad to point out.

Alfa Romeo Guilia and Stelvio in the Quadrifoglio form are THE BEST cars out there!! I know Joe you're a BMW man... but even you have to say the Guilia QV is better than the M3!

Ann Gray-Trufant it’s a fantastic car, a whole lot more reliable than the new Range Rover Sport it replaced! It’s the perfect combo of comfort, performance and reliability. Even if it has done 4000 miles before needing rear tyres.. but that’s more my driving style! Joe is more than welcome to use it along with any of my other cars for UA-cam 👌

Enjoyed your passionate review and the family part at the end added some real life reality to it too. Personally, for such long video I'd prefer more research and hear more discussion on details like the engine and body engineering (that's a lot of carbon and aluminum design brilliance barely mentioned), transmission (why Alfa choose it over other options?), tire choice (I hear not that good in wet) and also infotainment system (pro's, con's comparisons)? Driving fast and saying 'brilliant' a lot is good for a few chosen scenes but not for 30mins.
I can't knock your appeal as a reviewer and the passion you deliver though, as that's what made me watch all the way through this. With your charm and a splash of Clarkson humour I'd be hooked!

I'm very tempted to replace my 440i GC with the X3M in time, but this Stelvio QF keeps haunting me though... Nice matching jacket btw ;)

Fantastic review! Im currently considering one of these or Cayenne GTS, what are your thoughts on the Stelvio depreciation? Theres a 69 plate with under 6k currently up at £46k, seems like a massive bargin! But is it going to be worth £25/30k in 2 yrs?! Really making me think long and hard about the Stelvio. Would love to hear your opinion.

Great video Joe......listen gotta ask , i currently have an MY17 M3 Comp pack , i love the car but looking for something fast and AWD...how does it conpare to the M3 performance wise?
Cheers Phil! Good question... The fact you can lay down all Italian 500bhp all of the time makes this car very very fast in the real world, on a nice summers day on a smooth fresh bit of tarmac the M3 would be the quicker and sharper tool though. Definitely worth a test drive, but make sure you can spank it somewhere in Race mode ;-)

Joe, how about the Audi RS QS3/5?
Excellent review. How do you feel this compares to a BMW X3 M40i?
Seems to be equal price on used market with more performance than m40i but obvious concerns of will it be reliable. 355hp vs 500hp is undeniably good deal.

The M40i review you did was not the same though. It was a freinds car and you didnt push anywhere near as much as the Alfa and you had it for like half a day and drove around City streets and tight Countryside. Get a X3 M40i from BMW for a week then compare the Stelvio against it. I personally looked at the difference and here in Australia the BMW won hands down. The difference in price was just way beyond being worth it and the BMW for me had around the same performance but better electronics and so much better value. I love the carbon options on the Stelvio and if you Compare this car against the X3 M which has the carbon and maybe similar pricing then the X3 M im certain will be miles in front.
Without them carbon ceramic brakes do you reckon that the suv still can be pushed as hard??
Yeah for sure, the only time the ceramics would really benefit is if I did that charge 3 or 4 times over... The regular steel brakes are huge and massively powerful too
Joe, what's your thoughts on why you don't see the performance model Alfa's on UK roads. It seems the ingredients are there but the majority of people will still go to a BMW M model , Merc AMG or Audi's S line cars. Are the Alfa's not as polished overall ? Dealer network ? I'm surprised we don't see more of them considering how jaw dropping they are to look at.

Good question Razza, I think S Khalid has answered some of the reason, but also as you say, the overall package might not be up to the German standard, but the character and driving dynamics are better than the Germans... Also the dealer network isn't as good, but I would genuinely look at buying one of these if i needed a mid size SUV.
What about the 0-60 ? Is it achievable? Or bull?
Hey Joe, I'm looking to get myself an M2 soon, it's been my dream car since it's come out. People say forget about efficiency etc, but reality is, I do 60 mile round trip on motorway every day as commute, and if the car can give me at least 30 mpg during the week, I don't care if I get 20 when hooning over weekends. I know m240i can give me this- but I need those wide hips!! Brings me to the question - is 30mpg achievable if cruising at 60-70 in the M2?
You can do this just barely i think on 95 octane, and easily on 98 (I have the M2 with N55, duno how that would go on M2C). 98 Octane boost by 20 the efficiency on the M2 in my testing when driving around France. A full tank in Ireland (95 octane) gets me 450-500km and in france (98) i'm closer to 600-650 km even at 130km/h most of the time and AC on.
Hey Anirudh, Yeah 30mpg at 60-70mph is absolutely possible in the M2 or M2 Comp, I would say its about 10% less efficient than a M140/240, most of that is down to the lack of 8th gear (if you choose DCT), the manual option will always be another 10% less efficient on long runs due to the even shorter 6th gear. @@thaalrasha Awesome - Yeah when I make the switch, it'll be the N55 - the sound is unreal, and prices are looking mighty fine nowadays with the release of the M2C :) 600km per tank on 98 octane?! Thats incredible given the relatively small tank - Shell V-Power exclusively it is!! In your experience, how has the cost of ownership been in terms of general maintenance (I'll be getting a 2016-2017 M2, so no running in service etc, will just be normal service costs, tires and brakes im assuming)

Plus seeing as its gonna be my daily driver and will be doing around 16,000 miles a year at the least, (ended up doing 20k in my 420d this past year, oops) I think DCT is the way to go - especially if it lets me hit decent economy figures during the week.
anirudh srinath maintenance costs me 0 as I have the service pack. Now the rear tires need replacing (I do slide sometimes ;) ) and Michelin is not cheap
Great Video as always Mr Achilles but my biggest gripe with this car is the price. I think for what they are trying sell it at can't compete on interior design against the other in the same market. I think they've spent so much time on the outside and engine, etc and just given up on the interior.
Thanks! I think £70k for 500bhp of the best handling Ferrari sourced SUV is pretty good value, it does have a few shortfalls as I talk about, but for the money it's no wonder in my opinion. 👌
