I decided to get into this hobby partially because of you. I watch others who blow smoke and tell everyone it's all rainbows and butterflies. I watch and like your videos because you tell it like it is. Don't stop being honest about stuff.
I kind of feel like they wanted to keep enough the same so the aftermarket parts still worked. Can you image how PO everyone would be if they changed all the parts ever so slightly. Seems like they did a good job on this one. Some new parts but overall most extras we all have already will mod it up nicely.
My AX24 should be arriving on Monday, I dont use any brass on my 1/10 trucks but after using my SCX24 for a few weeks I up graded wheels and tires to Injora alloys and RC4WD Goodyear Wrangler MT/R and brass knuckles and that was a huge improvement in handling. So already ordered some RC4WD Scramblers, Injora alloy wheels, set of Comp Pin Multi Terrains Tires and brass knuckles. I love the 24s so easy to stash in a regular backpack when youre having a day out and crawl anytime.
Looks like a winner for backpacking or travel to different parts of the us. Was interested in the scx24 version but wanted rear steering also. Was made aware of the ax24 at time of looking around. Good price for the rtr also.
Looks good, thanks for the review. Not feeling buying one yet. Just got a 3d printer and diving deep into 3d design. Currently have an scx24 4 wheel independent suspension in the works. Already have a good axle housing design.

"Flex sells" or something like that. I was kinda bummed when that was the big release. I think it has potential, but I doubt I'll be getting one. I'd rather go for a UTB18 once someone comes out with stronger axle shafts for them.
Thanks for the honest review. I've preordered one because it's very similar in design to my Losi MRC Pro, only with 4 wheel steering standard. I expected it to need modding, so your video gives me a better idea of what I'll need to start with to get the performance I'm wanting. As always, very informative content with tons of good video to go along with it. Thanks for doing this for the RC community!
I'm only a month into this hobby, first purchase was the C10, upgraded it a bit, then I bought the AX24 and I'm loving it... putting on new wheels and tires soon. BUT, I don't like the velcro and the way the body always pops out from the frame.... but I'm having fun with it and learning a lot from all the videos on UA-cam...
You had me for a second… I thought axial had finally come to their senses and sent out one to you like they should. That’s alright though, inevitably you will get there. You’re videos have helped all of us out and I can say for me you’re my go to channel when I’m curious or stomped on something.

Hey Matt this was a great review!!! The satire at the beginning was awesome!!! Especially becsuse that's not the normal for you. So it was a fun surprise. (I actually watched just that part 3 times...lol) As always, I appreciate your honesty and even humbly admitting that you may have been to hard on it and enjoying it more than you thought you would have. That's not an easy thing to do. So good on you for putting ego aside and just being honest!!! To me it seems like instead of somebody like me spending the money on something like this THAN spending all the money i would need to spend to replace all the stock parts and mod out the issues, I'd just be better off starting with a mofo or injora or some other buggy platform and just build it from the ground up no? Instead of starting with this than basically ripping it all apart anyway...lol Regardless... I can't wait to see what you do with your conservative and extreem builds that you have planned!!!! 😊👍
I appreciate this comment so much! I totally try to let people know how I feel about each Rc. Even if that means I totally flip my opinion once I run it. I was pretty hard on this one and really stand by my thoughts on it as far as they should’ve did more but I’m totally enjoying it so I’m not going to hide that. This is probably my favorite rtr scx24 so far and I won’t try to hide that. So even though I feel like they should’ve changed a few things, I think this is the best scx24 for performance they’ve offered yet! Really appreciate you and this comment 🙏
I think the major flaw in this kit is how bad the ESC's modulation is. It could have been a good starter kit for people since it would have had a good radio, a good receiver/ESC/4ws combo, 2 front axles w/steering links, and semi-decent tires. The value would have been there, but not now. Also, why purposely bring back a high CG chassis like that? Do none of the 3rd party LCG chassis inspire them at all?
@@jasonbecker4997 yeah the servos are not good. But I'm just referring to the tx/rx. The rest is just normal scx24 items. Although I do like the new lighted boatsides.
I just like that there is another one to buy stock and slowly mod with a slightly different mindset. I am not going to rush to buy one but will definitely pick one up. If I could find a T-hunter in Aus I'm more interested in that.

Yes it did! I may have to play around with some lighter builds on that climb and see if that’s the difference. Most trucks spin there quite a bit more!

I’m still waiting on my max smasher from china. High speed motor has arrived. I ordered all of that because I wanted stunts! In the mean time I bought a scx24 and I have fallen in love with crawling. First time rc vehicle user. I prefer the looks of anything I can make look like a monster truck. QUESTION: for a crawler, should I buy a second smasher to lock the diffs and add weight, OR buy this AX24 and add some weights
I think I’d rather run this stock body 😆 Not really a fan of that body in person. It was one reason I bought the last ecto24 and once I had it in hand I sold it the same day lol

They were trying to keep the cost down to compete with the TRX4M. The aftermarket parts are cheap. I definitely won't have to spend 1200 bux to get it the way I want it like my Slash!!

Some interesting things- Where i thought this rig would be best would be the esc and tx- glad to hear the tx is good but i am surprised by the esc. Its 2023, a company like axial should be able to source a good one. You mentioned that thing will be a good performer with just a little work and i agree- from my perspective though i think having the 2 servos and the less common chassis and parts will mean that a little work will be a lot more expensive. I am inclined to think that an scx with $100 in mods would out perform an ax24 with $100 on mods- but that will be interesting to see, i could be 1000% wrong. Do you think a person could upgrade the front servo and leave the rear stock? Do you think the rear servo undergoes less stress and less frequent use?

So long as your new radio will support 4ws you’re fine. You can really step it up and be able to control front and rear independently, then you’re really shittin in tall cotton!
Not a huge fan of the chassis. I think I'd rather spend the $40 to get another front axle and servo for any of the scx24 models. The goofy body alone on this thing turned me away from it almost immediately.
I got mine 2 hours ago. I like nothing about it. Nothing at all. I would mod it but there would be no part left on it. No part at all, so what would be the point? Even the 4WS sucks bad. Might take the drive shafts off and give my grandson his second push toy along with his HBX devastator push toy.
Lol and people bash me for saying the same thing 😆 With a little work it’s probably the best scx24 but it still has all the same problems they all have.
@@2fmrc I would have bought it regardless of wonder just to have the wheels and tires I need for my stock Betty replica, a shelf queen. Stock axles are handy to have for the scalers. I knew what I was getting as far as whack geometry, but the 4WS lag, that's sad.
i feel like all axials suck stock my scx2 flipped everything until I modded it I also bought 3 different yeti jr and they came broken in different way mostly stripped diffs first one I got from horizon hobby the othrs one i got from amazon because of there return and they were so slow stock
I don't understand why you tubers complain about rigs not being perfect. If it was perfect for you when u got it you would be bored with it in 5 minutes with nothing to upgrade.

The AX24 may be super capable - or not. This all does not matter to me as long as I do not see anyone posting a pic with some alternative body that looks great. As is, the AX24 looks ugly and I would never buy one without having some kind of plan to modify it in advance.
Isnt that the name of the game though? I mean look at traxxas trx4m, it was made intentionally low grade so they could sell their own aftermarket parts. It'll cost you $300 at least to make it a decent rig.

Some people just collect RTR models I guess. If you're into RC much at all, eventually you learn to build from the chassis up and skip the junk they sell.
I feel that all they really needed to do is design a new lcg frame(ie cheat code,gecko,goblin style) and then the flat skid wider rock sliders to fit bigger bodies, better servos/shocks and this thing would be a beast of a rtr similar to the furitek cayman. If they litterally did the same thing furitek did but made it 4ws and without the brushless motor/esc it would be a beast and they could have still kept it under 200

I’m an Axial fan no doubt. I had my reservation about this AX24. Looks very capable. Suspension can be improved. Nice review!

I’ve been having fun with mine. I’ve added a decent amount of brass and changed the super soft springs. It’s a pretty capable little rig now.
I completely understand your initial thoughts video. Same old motor and steering servo that basically need to be changed.

Exactly what I think. I’ve got an scx24 and see the UTB18 as a better buy for my next build. This thing just doesn’t offer enough to justify getting.

After seeing this video I still think that the chassis is better on the Scx24 and the better performing platform when fully upgraded

I think the only thing I like that they did was the electronics. Having a stock 4ws setup is very nice.

Does the esc have a channel 2 like the V1’s so that you can piggy back a Furitek esc?
Yea it does. Haven’t tried using it like we did the v1 but it has the ch2
It's definitely a great base for a custom build
To me it's a great beginning point to see what I can turn it into
Try an Ecto24 body on it. Those are narrow and may fit the sliders better. And it looks Saweet.

Maybe if you place the battery on top of the frnt servo and the receiver on top of the rear servo and put a truck body in it

So I noticed some use a Scx24 trans on the FCx … are they the same bolt pattern? Could I use a FCX trans and lock it in the low gear on a Scx24?

They aren’t a straight bolt on. You could possible make them work though. I’ll probably make a set work on the scx at some point.

Yea it’s all tied together. You’d have to run a transmitter that can support 4ws.

Isnt that the name of the game though? I mean look at traxxas trx4m, it was made intentionally low grade so they could sell their own aftermarket parts. It'll cost you $300 at least to make it a decent rig.
@@willyjimmy8881 Traxxas makes a good rig. They make colored parts could ppl will buy em. But the trx's are plenty capable out of the box. Now a scx out of the box? garbage
Some people just collect RTR models I guess. If you're into RC much at all, eventually you learn to build from the chassis up and skip the junk they sell.

I feel that all they really needed to do is design a new lcg frame(ie cheat code,gecko,goblin style) and then the flat skid wider rock sliders to fit bigger bodies, better servos/shocks and this thing would be a beast of a rtr similar to the furitek cayman. If they litterally did the same thing furitek did but made it 4ws and without the brushless motor/esc it would be a beast and they could have still kept it under 200
It would have been really nice if that was MOA dual motor control…now that would have been innovative and adding strong servos and high links.
