    Eggs never seem to roll down those fancy storage racks very well; but if you sit one on the counter and turn your back it'll roll onto the floor right away 😅

      The only one that seems useful was the rolling one, if they made the angle a little steeper it would be better.

      I remember a few years back GE made a "Smart" egg tray. It (intermittently) talked to an app to keep track of how many eggs you had left, and how long each egg had been sitting in the tray. (Because looking in the carton to see how many you have, and keeping an eye on the expiration date is Too Hard, I guess.)
      As you might guess, it was not a success.

      The only way I see a plastic egg holder being useful is if you have access to farm fresh eggs that don't come in a carton, so you have to store them yourself.

  • @zachyurkus

    Yolk is naturally gonna float to the top of the egg, you should try the egg cracker with it upside down over the bowl so the metal prongs go in from the bottom and thus won’t hit the yolk.

    The collapsible egg holder gives a false sense of more room in the fridge. There's only more room if you are down to two eggs and don't buy more. Restocking will expand it out again. You could just stack two egg cartons and use the same space and store double the eggs.

    The orange egg cracker can be made to not break yolks, I glued half a toothpick under the metal, on both sides, so they can't poke in as far. No more broke yolk!!

  • @TheHrb1234
    @TheHrb1234 11 місяців тому +22

    The Eggstra just seems to take up more height in the fridge and you cant stack anything on top (like 2 packs of eggs). Just seems like more work transferring them in and out (and the added chance of dropping/knocking them) than using the carton that protects the eggs. None of these pass the usefulness test to me.

  • @gwynnguiliano8859
    @gwynnguiliano8859 11 місяців тому +105

    The egg carton serves the purpose of keeping eggs from absorbing odors from the other foods in the refrigerator but I guess if your household uses eggs quickly, the egg dispensers might work nicely.

      Everything I've read about storing eggs say to keep them in the container you bought them in. I used to store my eggs in the plastic container that came with my fridge until I read about properly storing eggs.

    • @TamarLitvot
      @TamarLitvot 11 місяців тому +10

      I often have more than a dozen eggs in my fridge and I just use the cartons they come in, putting the older carton on the bottom. Never had a problem with that (over 40 years). If I have only a few eggs and I’m in need of space, I cut the empty part of the carton off. I’ve had a plastic egg carton, that has a lid, for years which I use occasionally if the store carton gets wet or an egg breaks on the way home from the store and I need to remove the eggs. All of the egg storage (or cracking) devices I see here or online seem to make things more complicated.

  • @Tletna

    For the egg cracker: if the reason you're breaking the yolk every time is due to it floating, just turn the egg cracker upside down *before* inserting the metal pokers. You're going to put it in that position to open it and drop the egg anyway. The egg-star space requires you to reach to the eggs to take them out, so unless you're storing things behind it as it gets smaller it isn't helping. If you cannot reach what you put behind it then how is it saving space? The other egg dispenser looked like a bad idea over all and did not work reliably. The deviled egg cutter worked just fine though I don't know how necessary that gadget was. One can do that by hand. Though I guess it is nice for those who cannot otherwise do it by hand. So to me your first two products displayed were the winners today even if they're not strictly needed. The third one seemed pointless if you really think about things are put in the fridge and the last one was a total flop.

    • @Sarafimm2
      @Sarafimm2 11 місяців тому +3

      I agree the last two items were unnecessary if not useless. And what would you do if you bought a second dozen eggs? Most people stack the egg cartons on top of each other, but you couldn't with these products. The last one was the worst because it caused the eggs to fall against each other at one of the weakest part of the egg. I think the deviled egg cutter was a good idea and it's really quick. Something even later age kids could do reliably as deviled eggs are usually among some of the earliest cooking recipes for kids because it's so easy. As for the egg cracker, I'm not sure if the egg yolk floats or not, but if the metal insert was wider and not deeper, it might have worked just as well without cutting into the yolk no matter what direction it was held in. The only restriction might be the required size of the eggs you would need to use with it. I've never known anyone to buy small or medium sized eggs, but an insert might take care of that, too.

    • @petermescher332
      @petermescher332 11 місяців тому +2

      Well, the deviled egg cutter did make decorative cuts; those would be hard to do by hand quickly.

    I'm definitely going for the "Generic Egg Dispenser." We have chickens and I collect 3-5 eggs everyday. It's a trick to keep track of them and use the oldest eggs first. With the dispenser, I can just add the incoming eggs to the top and cook eggs coming off the bottom. Love it!

    I believe the egg decorator cutting tools are pretty good if you're making deviled eggs for a gathering. Seems like they're just long enough to go lengthwise too which would help with not overlapping cuts in the egg. I feel like the cutters could be improved but over all not a bad product.

    • @carolinezook

  • @sharonpeek4578
    @sharonpeek4578 11 місяців тому +25

    I believe the first gadget may work better if you put the egg in and close it. Then, instead of pushing the prongs into the egg, just tap the prongs on the counter, just like you would crack an egg without the gadget. I think that would crack the shell without breaking the yolk (unless you tapped it hard enough to push the prongs all the way in).

    • @ergunburak
      @ergunburak 11 місяців тому +13

      Prongs have to be inside the shell to separate them. They made it long so it can work with different sized eggs. Maybe too long.

    • @HPY-Prints
      @HPY-Prints 11 місяців тому +3

      Prongs need to be in to hold the shell but instead of opening with the prongs on the bottom use it sideways will not break the yolk i bet it is not the cracking that breaks it it is the dispensing

    • @timb.9224

    I'm in the camp of "broken yolk is fine". When I fry eggs for a meal, I put them in the pan, then use the flipper to break the yolk (because I like my eggs over hard). Then, when I'm making scrambled eggs, omeletes or using the eggs in baking, well, the yolks aren't supposed to survive, so breaking it is also fine! Neat egg cracker but honestly, I think it's faster to just do it by hand. The egg cutters are cute. The Egg-stra Space is a neat gadget, but I never have enough stuff in the fridge to find an egg carton to be taking up too much space. I agree that the other one with the ramp is not a good idea.

    That Eggstra Space storage thing seems like a nice idea but then it's like. Are you going to rearrange everything in your fridge as the number of eggs decreases? It doesn't seem very helpful, and you're still wasting so much space on top of it. Personally I use a storage bin that came with a previous refrigerator (that I've kept around) that stores 12 eggs and is stackable, and I usually put other stuff on top of it. Which you can also do with, y'know, an egg carton.

    The egg dispensing gadgets are fine and all (and the "Eggstra Space" dispenser is kind of a neat idea), but they seem unnecessary as eggs already come in a dispenser from the store (and some fridges have a built in spot for eggs if you want to take them out of the carton).

    I remember cutting cartons when only four eggs were left to save space. Why waste so much plastic for nothing?

    If you have the metal part of the egg cracker facing down instead of up, that should have the yolk rise to the top and avoid the puncture

    I think you have to let go of the prongs before you flip the egg cracker over. Otherwise, gravity is going to make the yolk fall on top of the pointy bits.

    I've cracked a thousand eggs in a year, never once got egg on my hands, not once have I broken the yolk, not once have I got shell in the bowl. No one needs egg crackers!!

    I rather take out the whole egg carton than taking one by one from the fridge. Also rather buy 3 dozen at a time and its just easy stackable

    The Eggstra Space (collapsible egg caddy) is by far the best product of the bunch in this batch. I know you were pulling it forward during the fridge demo to show the action to the camera, but in a "real world" application, it's supposed to be tucked into the corner, and you simply collapse it into the back while going through the dozen eggs, instead of a mostly empty box after you make a few breakfasts.
    I'm also curious about the fridge demo overall. Did you simply move them into the fridge, and start recording, or did you let the devices come down to fridge temperature? I think a big part of why the "dispenser" gave you trouble was because the plastic was room temperature, and more flexible than it would be after chilling. Don't get me wrong, I was terrified the entire time you used it, but I want it to make sure it gets a fair shake.

    I think the egg cracker the two metal parts. It might be slightly too long. It might be protruding too much into the egg that they are hitting the yoke

    I would just keep them in the box, don't use eggs up fast enough for a gadget,. Also, I think keeping them in the carton is a safer place.

    In Australia, we are advised to store fresh eggs in the original cardboard container in which they were sold. This protects the eggs from damage as well as preventing them from contamination by absorbing bacteria and odours from other foods in the fridge because the shells are porous.
