      HI Stephen 😍💐 woohoo!! yep!! I am hoping that it will be ok in the seedling set up. The other pieces are starting to grow new growths, but very tentatively, so I am not sure if they will have energy to grow roots or slowly loose the leaves, as brassavola types do 😕 still, I hope that all the pieces can and will recover so that come next year we can pot them up properly and maybe send them off to others. And if the EU and Brexit get their act together in 12 months, we may get the chance to ship to the UK! I am always keeping an eye out for what happens in that area 😉 thank you so much for watching, Stephen!! Wishing you a beautiful Sunday 🌹🌸

    🦒🌻🌼🌞 Tolumnia hawkesonia is so cute with all the fans!!! Interesting how elongated the rhizomes are. Just imagine if several fans come into spike/bloom at same time. One of my hybrid Tolumnia is spiking, my very first blooms to be 😃 How wonderful that the nanipuakea is growing such lovely roots. The Trichocentrum is surely trying and so eager to pull thru which is so rewarding for you. Happy SUNday amiga mia. We are having a cloudy day with some rain, maybe and then more sun next week. A very nice day to you, your daugher and the zoo 😍🤗🥰

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +3

      FFF 🙌🏼💐🙌🏼😍🌹 I mistook the rhizomes for possible flower spikes, when I first got it 😅 but, little fans are growing on the tips... really is cute! I am hoping that with the hob padding, it has enough humidity to be happy and I don't compromise the little fans like I did with my variegata ✌🏻 yep... that trichocentrum, sulked for a year or more, and now it is trying, but... its going to be hard to make sure it doesn't collapse the coming months. I so desperately want to get it into a pot, I don't like how the middle old mass is behaving and to keep the roots happy in a pot, I would have a much wetter environment around that middle part... its a gamble, meine liebe Freundin, but I hope that we will come out the other side next year, and it is still with me 😁really appreciate you watching this video as well, amiga!! And, a wonderful Sunday to you too ❤️🌹🌸

    I have Tolumnia Sylvestris which has a similar growth habit .. I have it mounted on tree fern. It’s doing well. 🤗🌴🌸

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Shirley 😍💐 I love tree fern! I hope that my mount somewhat can emulate the same climate that tree fern gives an orchid like this. I can see how the nursery has a mother plant that grows in high humid conditions and all they do is snip off runners and tie them to a little cork slab... when this orchid gets going, it must be beautiful once the fans bloom. I had the variegata, but yeah... that did not work too well, so, tree fern, I understand why your's is happy, it is perfect!! Thank you, Shirley for watching! I wish you a beautiful Sunday 🌹

    Your hawkseana looks much better than the one I have. Love the way it looks on that “huge” mount. I have no doubt it will take over it in a year or so if it continues its growth far.🌸

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +3

      🌸🥷🏼Trish San 🙌🏼❤️🤸🏼‍♀️😍💐 hi!! There's 4 different little off shoots... I guess the mother plant is a biggy and all they did was cut off 4 trailers to tie to a mount prior to shipping. But, the little fans at the top, the new ones, they are opening up and I have root tips... so, I am not going to complain that they just chopped runners off, if this is what it is going to do from here on in. These species are delicate... I hope that we can one day do a CareCollab together on this little orchid, well, you have 2 species 👍🏼👍🏼 Hope you had a lovely Sunday, 🌸🥷🏼 thank you so much for watching! ❤️🌸

    So, I have come up with my own version of a indoor-friendly mount. Its shape is well-suited for climbing plants. It is organic but can easily be modified into being anorganic if bark is substituted with seramis and moss with hob material or rockwool:
    I take a Square of wire mesh (the way the wire is arranged needs to be forming little squares as well). The size of the holes should be smaller than your "filling" (obviously) but large enough to let air flow freely and roots enter. I then fold it three times to create a prism shape and close it using zip ties or wire. I seal the bottom either by cutting out a fitting piece from the mesh or using wire. Then, the plant is placed onto the side and secured with wire to the cage. Then, the filling begins: I use large bark at the bottom to allow for good drainage and then alternate Leca beads, Sphagnum moss and medium-sized bark. while being careful not to damage the roots. When the "toblerone" as I like to call it is full, the top is sealed using the same method as for the bottom.
    Pros:
    -it holds more water than a traditional mount and therefore is easy to maintain
    -its assembly is not difficult (the instructions above make it sound more difficult than it is, but it usually takes me less than half an hour to do everything)
    -The plants like it 😉
    -I find it aesthetically pleasing
    -easy watering (just pour from above)
    Cons:
    -repotting is not very easy (the prism has to be opened)
    -the materials are easy and cheap to get in my area, but that may be different elsewhere
    -it still needs more watering than a regular pot, of course
    I can send you pictures of the setup, If you'd like

      Lo! 😍💐 hi!! Yes, I know what you mean... a few years ago, before my channel, I watched a channel called Oliver's Greenhouse, and he made something similar ... filling the mount with media of choice and I though that was so cool! I will adapt my inorganic mounts as the orchids mature to something similar with Hob material, when the watering requirements increase. But, yes... that is super effective and thank you for taking the time to be so detailed in your comment, because, if someone else reads it, they may take some inspiration from it 👍🏼👍🏼 and thank you for watching my video, Lo! Hope you had a great weekend and wish you a wonderful start to the new week 🤗🌸

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +3

      HI Andre 🤗💐 I hope so too, but... it is now the swan song for this one, if it doesn't manage through the winter, then, all I can say is, I tried 😬 I could see your other comment, but it is not showing up when I click it, so, I will respond here. The species tolumnias have this long rhizome with tiny little fans, not like the conventional tolumnias that we see (in my case baskets with lava rock), so, the set up of my species tolumnia in the same way that I have the 'bigger' tolumnias required a lot more spraying which was not good for the tiny fans, and it was over watered, and rotted. My other tolumnias are all in baskets only with lava rock. I mist the roots, and that has worked out really well for me this year. Hardly any fertilizer, more on the seaweed application to encourage the roots to grow. I hope I answered your question, because I could not see your entire comment. 🤔 thank you so much for watching, Andre! Have a wonderful evening 🌸

    Good day! I couldn't resist with this one, I'm sorry. I'm so happy that at least one of the pieces is showing some signs of life. I know it's still not "out of the woods", but it looks well enough with the roots not stopping and blackening. Maybe she'll fight the F off? Some orchids do, if they're strong enough. It would be a very sweet story and maybe some sign of hope for people who may get the infection and replacing the whole collection wouldn't be a financially feasible option. It's not like this is a super option since they'll be majorly set back and who knows if they'll recover to a proper vigor, but still... and option. Fingers crossed for it, I'll watch out for any updates (if you didn't post them already and I just have them in my backlog :D ). I still adore this Tolumnia. I love it. Such sweet tiny fans. It's still so curious to me that they grow on this straight stalk (well rhizome), it's like a combination of bulbo and Tolumnia. I'm at a loss for words. Can't wait to see how it progresses, but it already looks so cute! Also I wonder how it'll look with blooms :) So satisfying to see the roots green up when they're touched with water. Also fingers crossed for the Trichocentrum, it looks like it wants to survive, I really hope it'll make it. It looks like it can bounce back nicely, if it keeps this up. I wish all of them the best and hope you have a lovely weekend!

      Hey!!! 🌸🥷🏼SnowDragonka San! 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️😍🥰💐 no updates with this Nanipuakea since this video 😊 but, she is still hanging in there, I see no decline on the leaves, there is hope! The other pieces are showing tiny new growths... roots to follow and then I have to make a decision if I want to pot them up with time of year or leave them in the hob material until spring. The little Tolumnia is doing great so far! The little growths at the end of the rhizome have now fanned out and I have new roots growing up there, and a few little new ones on older fans... there is hope for this little set up as well. The winter is the tricky part, and when I say winter, we have had almost a week of stupid low temperatures that are not normal here! I am doing the orchid shuffle daily because the sun is beautiful and I want the orchids to be outside enjoying that light and not be cooped up indoors. Busy busy, out in the morning when temperatures outdoors match those indoors, and then, the same again in the early afternoon, usually about 5pm that is when they all go inside again. Got the angraecums inside, they stay inside!! The stabby stabby 😉 roots are too much to keep moving around. So good to see you again, I hope that you are doing well 🌸🥷🏼stay warm, stay safe and have yourself a fabulous Sunday ❤️🌸

    Thanks Nina,
    Always discovering new things: will try your "filter method". If I leave new roots outside, they got eaten by ? and the tips became dark and stopping the roots growth.
    Bye

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Daniel 😃💐 I think you have earwigs... I don't know the french name, and a little fertilizer burn as well. If it were snails, the structure of the roots would be a clean 'cut' and not the shredded fibre look. But, yes, protect the roots with some filter material and do not fertilize until there are new roots long enough to handle the fertilizer. Have a great day, Daniel! Thank you so much for watching 🌸

    Very interesting tolumnia ♥️ Do I spy 4 o’clocks (mirabilis) in the background? I love them so, I have them every year

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Michelle 😊💐 it is possible that it is a poor relation to the actual mirabilis, one that sneaks in as an impostor so that it will not be cut down as a weed 😅 But yes... if not the actual mirabilis, something very similar and it self seeds everywhere, I have to keep all the plants that peak through the hedge in check because they get quite large. Pretty blooms though, so I leave enough of it around for a touch of color. Thank you so much for watching, Michelle! Have a beautiful Sunday 🌸

    Well, at least one piece of Nanipuakea is trying. Hope those roots push out and it is on the road to recovery.
    I've got my Trichocentrum Kuquat growing in a pot with Polyfil stuffing, which is probably similar to the hob material but fluffy rather than woven, and it seems to be viviendo la buena vida. It has grown a lot of roots into that pot and there is something growing off one of the two growths it matured. I don't know if that is a spike or the start of a new growth, I'm hoping for a spike. Now I don't know that growing that way would work for you because you have less humidity, and the way those roots are coming off the front would make it difficult to get in a pot anyway I assume. I think, though, you're going to have to intervene in some way or those root tips are going to dry out and stop growing, no? So a hob cushion over them or something?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +2

      Don MIguel 😍💐 hola Jefe! One is trying! The other pieces are still alive, no roots yet, but I am seeing attempts at new growth, so fingers crossed that they may make it as well, all back up is welcome! I am watching the progress of the roots that are growing away from the hob material, very closely... I may need to pin a little layer of it on the top of the roots to get them down, as you say, and not let them fail. As we are heading into cooler climate, the humidity is higher than it normally would be, so, I am kinda gambling with that. Also, I have some in the material that went there on their own... its a gamble with this one, and if the 2 growing leads would establish themselves over the coming months, then, possibly in spring I can cut out the middle, which is harder to keep dry... fiddling with it now, I think it will collapse entirely,.... we shall see. I am surprised that it is still trying, after so many years of literally stalling. I want it in a pot, but am not comfortable with the cooler temps coming! Did I mention dowiana in this reply?? I can't see it 😂😂😂 thank you so much for watching, Michael! Hope you have yourself a great Sunday 😍❤️🌸

    Do you mount on this set up only small orchids or do you treat it as an ICU to grow roots temporarily? Interesting mount idea.

    • @NinjaOrchids

      Hi there Desire 🥰💐 I really appreciate how you have gone back to watch older videos, thank you so much! ua-cam.com/play/PLE0Vsyo7oBN6b-y0Dknsj2YIcyUbbh6GG.html here is the link to my playlist on inorganic mounts, how it happened, why it happened, and the orchids as they moved into the different set ups etc. I apologize for the lack of quality on some of the videos, audio may be off, etc, ... I was learning the YT filming details 'ropes' and well, it is early days with some videos, but maybe there is something that you might be interested in, based on your question. I have mainly fine rooted orchids in the different configurations, and then orchids that need a lot of humidity around their roots, which I do not have in my ambient air. But, most of my mounts are not with the scrubby pad or hob filter material... or a combination of both materials depending on what I am trying to achieve, and how much water / humidity they need. I love these materials. They give me options to build the inorganic mount as the orchid grows, without having to disturb the orchid 👍🏼🌸
