Danielle 🥰💐 Yes... she is a stunner! First time to bloom and wow does she need A LOT of light. Vigorous grower all these years, but this year I put her in a corner of my East side shelf where the sun was hitting her directly and that brought out the blooms. I was very concerned about her this summer, it just seemed ridiculous to have her in the blazing sun like that, but... yep... she is gorgeous!! Unfortunately the blooms only last 2 weeks though. Ninja_Orchids I have purchased a few Brassocattleyas lately because I love the shape of the blooms and the variety of colors. Most of them are seedlings so I have quite a while to wait for blooms but if I have the opportunity I will get more because even the foliage is interesting. I have them in super bright light which I was afraid of at first because they are babies and I thought they might fry but they seem to love it.
They love it, that's for sure! And their growth habit, the leaves, I love them as well. The Golden Peacock leaves change to a glaucus hue which I also find so appealing, like the B. digbyana, the young leaves on the peacock come green and then turn glaucus, its a cool trait ... looks as if there is calcium residue on them, but its how they are. My angraecum bosseri and crestwood tomorrow star are doing the same, so I am so hesitant to wipe them down with insecticide... I love the effect! btw... spoiler alert.... unicorn is growing a root nubbin!! 🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️😱🙌🏼 I! Am! So! Happy!!! I must not mess this up!!! 🤞🏼

I find it totally inappropriate to use that name in any of my labels, videos or comments, but you will be able to find it better when you know the cross / real name: Vanda cristata x Vanda tricolor. I think 'Rainbow Forest' is also a made up name, and I have been told that it is a V. Peaches... but it is not, it does not behave like a peaches and the blooms also differ to some consideration. I was given the real name by Susannah U and it has a very unacceptable name which I will not use, but the cross is V. cristata x V. tricolor, in case you want to look it up and possibly find it for your collection. It really wanted to bloom a lot more earlier in the season, but aborted 4 spikes straight off the bat, so... it is a very vigorous bloomer, once it is mature enough... definitely a gorgeous one to have. Hi!! 🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️😅🥰💐 In the video, I should have included: Ik breek mijn klomp, when I read that you lived in Amsterdam and the realisation hit me as to which orchid was tagged for you! I know Oranjeboom because it was served a lot in Holland when I went there in the 80s and 90s. I used to visit Scheveningen, Den Haag, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, a lot! Almost every week I was at some point in Holland. Marcus van Basten was one of my favorite soccer players when he played for Ajax, and I was a big fan of Ajax Amsterdam for many years! I do not have anymore ties to Holland, but remember those years well. 😊 So... yes... I love it when things like this happen 😃 If you find a Golden Peacock before I am ready to split this one, then please do not wait for me! It will take at least another 6 months before I can divide her. She will bloom now, almost through the whole winter, so... it will take a while... I hope that you can wait that long, and if not, then it is definitely a wonderful hybrid to grow! Very vigorous, and super long lasting blooms, that just increase in their orange as time goes by. I have 2 more spikes forming buds ... we shall see a lot more of her in future videos! I am so glad that you enjoyed seeing this video! That is the whole point of this series.... and when I do get the feedback from the viewers, then it makes me smile from ear to ear!! Stay put, heal that foot!! Buenos dias FFF 🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 Hibiki only blooms on the leafless canes for me. Which is fine, they loose their pink tinges and look odd, so, the blooms make for a nice camouflage. 😬 However, yesterday, I already took some blooms that were spent, off... that is a little bit earlier than I remember last year. 🤷🏼♀️ Maybe I thought every cluster lasted that long, and generalized the bloom duration to be 5 months as opposed to the color show being around 5 months because the clusters open at different times, so there is a small window of opportunity when it is in full bloom, as it was 2 days ago. Still, it does us the favor to hide the leafless canes by blooming on them, which is nice 😊 It will be interesting to see what the canes look like after it has finished blooming and if any of them with desiccate. YAY! Birthday girl, in da house! Her social media is blowing up... she appears to be very busy with all of that 😅 We are off to have a curry for lunch today... I guess her guests wanted that, as opposed to going to the beach for a grilled fish and salad 🤷🏼♀️ I shall be the tag along! I normally enjoy hanging out with her, but when she has her friends, I feel as though it would be better and more fun if I wasn't around and we can do something just the two of us, but... she insisted, so... I guess I have to get dressed and see how the restaurants are handling this social distancing business! 😑 I have not been out with her, since February 29th. I took her to lunch at a special place, because it was a special day in the calender and I like to commemorate leap year days 😬 Well... it turned out to be a very special day because 2 weeks later..... we know what happened! MaryG 🤗💐 Hi! Hibiki is in SH / self watering... don't know if there is much difference, but just to be specific 😊 leca only. This Hibiki gets full sun throughout the winter, during it's 'resting' phase, which, in my case isn't a rest from watering but no fertilizer, because it has finished growing and finished blooming, so... no point to fertilize. My rest is only defined by fertilizer or not, I do not withhold water. As the angle of the sun rises during the warmer months, it finds itself in dappled shade. So, the position of this orchid is determined by what the sun does. The neo, is in lava rock only. It gets sprayed every day with 300ppm of fertilizer. 200 MSU and 100 Calcium nitrate. Every once in a while I douse it with plain RO water, but only when I think about it, not as a set routine. The peacock was super easy to convert. No issues, I did not wait for new roots, when it arrived, it got cleaned up and plonked into the leca and self watering set up, and never looked back. Little Stars should do exactly the same ... If you have smaller leca that you can use, then I suggest that, it make the transition a little easier. I do not have a healthy Little Stars, it is in the self watering set up from day one, but it was not a good plant when I got it (Schwerter... I hate them, sorry!) So, if you were to see my Little Stars in a video, do not use that as an example that it doesn't work. 😬 Its a great candidate for SH! MaryG 🤗💐 Hi! Hibiki is in SH / self watering... don't know if there is much difference, but just to be specific 😊 leca only. This Hibiki gets full sun throughout the winter, during it's 'resting' phase, which, in my case isn't a rest from watering but no fertilizer, because it has finished growing and finished blooming, so... no point to fertilize. My rest is only defined by fertilizer or not, I do not withhold water. As the angle of the sun rises during the warmer months, it finds itself in dappled shade. So, the position of this orchid is determined by what the sun does. The neo, is in lava rock only. It gets sprayed every day with 300ppm of fertilizer. 200 MSU and 100 Calcium nitrate. Every once in a while I douse it with plain RO water, but only when I think about it, not as a set routine. The peacock was super easy to convert. No issues, I did not wait for new roots, when it arrived, it got cleaned up and plonked into the leca and self watering set up, and never looked back. Little Stars should do exactly the same ... If you have smaller leca that you can use, then I suggest that, it make the transition a little easier. I do not have a healthy Little Stars, it is in the self watering set up from day one, but it was not a good plant when I got it (Schwerter... I hate them, sorry!) So, if you were to see my Little Stars in a video, do not use that as an example that it doesn't work. 😬 Its a great candidate for SH!
