I was working on a lighting install, for something I don't recall, for an event in a studio in midtown west in the 30s somewhere. I recall bringing stuff up between floors in the stairs, which as you know in NYC are almost never used. From a window in the back hall I could see into the building behind, and could see dark cramped shop and a few people working
fascinating video Megan .. my first job was at R&K Originals at 1400 Broadway, they had 3 design studios and 3 showrooms .. I processed the orders, they sold to stores all over the country and I used to write by hand the addresses and number that they bought. My desk was in the "piece goods" room, where the fabric sales people would come and schmooze the "piece goods" buyer and the designers. They would go to Macy's and buy the latest stuff and copy it and bring it back. Glad to see these guys thriving !!!
