    We can never have enough piano libraries, cos each piano, and the different ways each sample library maker has created their samples, introduces its own unique perspective.
    I like this one. If I had the disposable funds, I would buy.

    What I luv about dry and "up close" libs is that on a proper board with weighted keys and headphones you can shut your eyes and literally feel like you are playing the real thing. Concert halls and reverbs are great for recordings and mixes, but it is not what a performer hears. I really dig the sound of this.

      One of the main things here is that the VSL SYNCHRON were recorded on the massive Synchron Stage, while the Pianoverse instruments were recorded as dry as possible. This contributes to the overall sound signature with the VSL having the Synchron acoustic imprint embedded into its personality, that is why they sound similar in a certain way, whereas the Pianoverse instruments avoid the room signature entirely so you only hear the instrument.
      Again, recording them dry in my opinion is vital to the Pianoverse concept of taking a piano and literally dropping it into any type of acoustic space, that is what they have done here. I am working on a theory as well to see how I could drop Pianoverse into a certain studio in Vienna, we shall see. 😎

    Great playing, as always!
    Do you feel there are sufficient dynamic layers for very sensitive playing?
    IK have been very cagey and proactively silent in answering the basic question of how many dynamic layers are there on average.
    I have a very thorough collection of the better piano libraries, and I also use Pianoteq for exactly the reason that it largely transcends the limits of sampled dynamic layers. So I ask this as someone who's is pretty picky. Thx

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Місяць тому

      Yeah, there are quite a few as I understand it but one of the things that bug me is the release layers, the sound does not seem to ring out like you would expect and the sustain sympathetic resonance is also a little strange that it almost acts as a verb.
      I will say there are some nice moments and detail in some of the pianos.
      Pianoverse in my opinion is more about taking the piano into the “verse” of the Piano. By recording it super dry you are able to take that sound into so many crazy places with the convolution and effects engine they have presented, which is impressive for takin the piano outside of the norm.
      Pianoteq is definitely in a class by itself when it comes to expression and detail, especially with the new models.
      Thanks again for watching. Joyfully yours!

    Ik once allowed demos of new software , not this time around. I am sure this is fantastic but when you Own Vienna and Garritan libraries there is really no need for anything else. I have yet to hear anything as good as the Vienna symphonic stuff. Yes it's expensive and yes it takes up a lot of space but if you are playing classical piano it's the best. My first Library was the Grandeur by Native Instruments , I thought it was fantastic until I bought the Garritan CFX concert grand , I thought that was the best until I bought the Steinway Model D from Vienna . 😃

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the Garritan CFX while having some age on it still holds up and is one of the few pianos that have a true Una Corda layer, while most others simulate this. VSL is amazing as well due to the extreme amount of detail they put into the sampling process. Thanks so much for watching and the kind support.

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  4 місяці тому

      Yes, the CASIO and my SL88:Grand have three pedal controllers with the sustain being a variable midi continuous controller similar to an expression pedal but sending cc64 values between 0 and 127, instead of just on and off. Thanks so much for watching and please let me know if you had any additional questions.

  • @keybdwizrd

    The Bösendorfer sounds great. Do you think these pianos are on par with those found in the Yamaha Montage 8? Better?

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Рік тому +5

      I would have to say in my opinion that any good sampled piano collection would be superior to something included on a workstation keyboard. The only caveat would be if said workstation had the horsepower and capacity to present the detail required.
      Most workstations are just that, workhorses for the studio and for live playing and in those cases you can get by with approximating a particular sound in those types of environments.
      Being used to playing larger virtual pianos at home and then trying to get a somewhat comparable experience on some of the digital pianos I have played on the road has been challenging at times, especially trying to get a full playable dynamic range. Thanks for watching.

    • @okay1904
      @okay1904 Рік тому +4

      The samples in the Montage are ok for live - but the pianos samples in this video, and from any of the best sample piano libraries for playback on computers, are definitely much better sounding than the pianos on a Montage.
      The key issue is that most people do not have the listening environment to hear the difference when listening to UA-cam, or they have not developed their hearing to hear the differences.

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Рік тому +1

      Ken, Pianoverse does have what I would call a modeled half-pedal. I would say since Pianoteq is modelling each note as it is being played gives it some interesting advantages. The dry recording approach for PIANOVERSE is definitely something they needed to do in order to fully realize their concept of putting the various pianos through their SPACES and effects concepts.
      Using anything less than the driest recordings possible would make doing anything creative as far as acoustic and effect space modelling as they are nearly impossible as you would be contending with the baked in sound of whatever the original room imparted to the recordings.
      Possibly an ideal situation is to record the pianos in an anechoic chamber to totally eliminate any sort of room ambient interference. That is exactly the approach the Petrof company did when Modartt was creating their Pianoteq version of one of their pianos, it is an amazing process.
      Thanks for your continued support, it is really appreciated. Joyfully

    Hey Simeon is pianoverse better than keyscape C7 Grand Or Noire from NI?

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Рік тому +2

      None of them is better, it is finding the one that can meet your specific need or sound you are going for. Pianoverse blurs the line between a pristine sampled piano collection mixed with some extreme sound design. Keyscape's C7 is something I can pull up and it sits very well in most of my mixes. It does not have the additional mic positions but you have a fairly comprehensive collection of keyboard instruments. You can get into more sound design but you need Omnisphere 2 to get there.
      NOIRE is a wonderful piano, actually two (Pure and Felt), that provides some unique experiences. In my opinion they were the ones who kicked off the idea of the cinematic, felt, sound design pianos that we have seen other developers take inspiration from.

    • @PipEastop
      @PipEastop Рік тому

      Thanks for the reply. I have tried to get right into it (paid for a month) and I can't find any evidence of "harp resonance". As I understand it, here is an example of how it would/should work:
      hold down a few notes in the right hand, silently.
      play a loud staccato chord in left hand.
      when the LH chord disappears the held notes in the right hand ring out, since their damping felts are off the strings.
      That's what an acoustic piano does. It's very difficult to model. Most makers of virtual pianos don't even try. It's absolutely necessary for a musically convincing package.
      My Clavinova has it. I think some of the Native Instruments pianos have it.

      Jake, thanks so much for watching and for the honest feedback. It is very hard to nail down the exact quality of sounds that to some users sound absolutely stunning and others have the polar opposite effect.
      One of the main goals for me and the channel is that since I have access to such a wide range of developers and instruments is to just play them and offer my real time reactions to showcase as many of the sounds as I can. This allows everyone at least to have the opportunity to hear the instruments and to see how the sound hits them. Whether it is in a positive or negative way, there is truly no right or wrong answer as each of us respond to the world around us in so many different ways.
      I also encourage viewers to check out the instrument for themselves if there is a demo available, that way they can make an even more informed decision whether an instrument might be right for them.
      Another thing to remember, I never try to shade things one way or another, I just play, that is why I enjoy livestreams so much as things happen in the moment (good or bad).
      Again, thanks so much for watching. My journey will continue to explore the strange new worlds that we are introduced to through an ever-expanding universe of virtual instruments. Joyfully yours, Simeon.

      @@PraiseTracks So true about it being very subjective. And to your point about demos - this has become a dealbreaker for me. These days I won't consider a purchase unless I can demo it myself. It's too easy to be sold on an instrument (based on sound alone) because a great player like yourself can make anything sound amazing...I've been burned a few times when I actually receive the product and am disappointed because it doesn't work for me in the playability department, even though it sounded great on their audio demos. This is why, for example, I recently chose the VSL CFX over Garritan...everybody talks about how great the Garritan is, but they don't offer a way to try the product, so it's just too much of a risk for me. And man, the VSL is an absolute joy to play (I'm now saying the same about the new Pianoteq Bosendorfer)!

      And some even insist you buy the copy protection dongle in addition and have the internet available because you are guilty until they prove you are nit unfortunately.
      Don't get me wrong that's almost everyone today even games are getting that way and anytime they can deauthorize you or go out if business MD you are left to yourself with a subscription to non where.
      Rant over🤔😊❤️
