  • Let me start off by saying I love fishing Dana Point! Beautiful clear water, awesome scenery, and a very easy beach launch make Dana Point an appealing destination for kayak fishermen of all skill levels. The morning started off with a successful effort to catch live mackerel for bait! After that I started trolling live mackerels, traveling south down toward the San Clemente Pier. I ended up catching some fun calico bass and had to battle a serious headwind back to the launch spot! I love kayak fishing!

Another great video! Welcome back to Dana. Those winds have kicked my butt a few times... Ive caught some monsters down south, but I usually go north nowadays so I don’t have to battle that wind heading back.

Some nice calicos! I'm trying to get out to Dana point too, but the truck I use to carry the kayak is on the fritz

Great vid! Although I would exercise some caution in open water there - the things I've hooked off the beach there are not ones you want to meet in a kayak

Wow Dan to say you put in a good workout would be an understatement, especially battling the wind on the way back! Got to love the scenery heading toward San Clemente. I haven’t made it to the pier just yet but there’s always some fish to find along the way. The water looked pretty flat when you started your video.
Your 1st Calico was sweet, and they were really liking that X-Rap15. I was using a 10 with so so luck, I see it’s time to bump it up a bit. I would have loved to see you hook into a Thresher!💪
I’ve been using “windy.com” or the app to plan the day. Just like you had that head wind going back it was like that last Saturday as well in the afternoon.
I’m heading out tomorrow but I’m not sure it I’m going to fish the beach again or head north and out a mile or two.

Southwest Kayak Fishing hi Glenn.... it was really nice for a couple of hours and then the wind started blowing. I’ve been using Surfline for my marine forecast for years, mainly for surfing, but it’s been really helpful for fishing also. They have live surf cameras all up and down the coast, so in addition to a detailed weather forecast, you can also watch live feeds from your favorite beaches!🎣😃

Whats your baitcaster and rod ?

Jose Ponce hi Jose... when fishing in open water, I throw swimbaits and lures using a Shimano Tranx 300HG Baitcaster Reel paired up with 7’3” Phenix X-Fast Action, Medium/Heavy Inshore Rod.🎣😃
