      yes, the same structure that attracts fish to that area makes it tough for shore fishermen. structure is easier to fish from a kayak because you can drop vertically.

      to be honest, with a beach launch, there really aren't any "secret" spots. it's wherever you can find parking that's close to the sand. there are many places like that in the Malibu area. and remember, beach launches are way more dicey than launching from a safe harbor.

    I've launched from that same beach a bunch of times. Last time my wife and I launched from that spot the surf was huge, I should have just turned around and gone somewhere else. Luck was on our side and we made it out o.k. The entry was just as bad but we timed it perfectly! I have another spot I go to now since the beach keeps getting steeper and steeper making it almost impossible to get out.

      Best word of advice i can give you is do your homework before you get out and if the math checks out, do it. Also timing is key, stand and watch the waves for 5 minutes and watch the sets. When you notice the large set of waves are about to end, go go go. Once you start, dont stop, you gotta commit. After that fish to your hearts content. On the way in, rinse and repeat. Time the set

    • @jtonneck
      @jtonneck 4 роки тому

      Luis Garcia it’s really not that bad really easy to do with the mirage drive as long as you take you time and commit and don’t damage the drive or rudder.

      Just got a tamarack myself i think it can handle the ocean great!

    • @JoyZofSoRRoW
      @JoyZofSoRRoW 4 роки тому +1

      @@marshassassin9583 it can. I've done take offs in Marinas with the tamarack just not beach takeoffs. Mainly I'm reminded of a beach takeoff I did in Malibu beach by the pier with my old Intex inflatable kayak. Simple enough, I just waited for the waves to calm down then dragged it to knee deep water, hopped on and bolted into the waves to get ahead of them. However that same day there were two woman who rented a two seater Malibu kayak and attempting to take off they let a wave hit the broadside of the kayak and both woman were dropped. One ended up with a minor head injury.
      Inflatables are light and usually when a wave did caught me it stayed on top of the wave.

    I hope nobody keeps and eat any fish out of Malibu. Just to let you know, Malibu does not have a sewer system. All homes are on septic tanks and a huge amount of them are not working properly. Those with older septics let their laundry water out to drain on the streets. I knew a local surfer that got an infection in his leg and actually ended up dying from it.
