My former teacher taught me that it doesn't sound like that because squidward is bad at playing,it's because clarinets can get water-logged and when they become wet it's messes up the pads and tone holes.
I thought that his clarinet was broken? He played great in the first episode before spongebob 'borrowed' it so I just thought he didn't have money to fix it
This is a pretty good theory but one thing hasn't been acknowledged. In the episode "Giant Squidward," Spongebob uses Squidward's kelp garden to make a great, large handmade clarinet for Squidward the giant and gifts it to him. It plays great and Squidward acknowledges this, which implies that Squidward secretly knows that when he (usually) plays the clarinet he's bad, but perhaps he's too stubborn to admit it and keeps trying anyway due to his insane dedication. Him playing this Kelp clarinet and admitting it sounds amazing and when he shrinks back to normal size due to the kelp grow wearing off, he's upset because he won't be able to play like that again. Wouldn't this mean that (since he can determine that that was good music in contrast to how he normally plays) that he isn't tone deaf?
near the end, what he's saying is true, spongebob and patrick literally have a specific date to annoy squidward as much as he can. It's literally called "Annoy squidward Day" which is on January/February 15th.
I always thought it was his own ego because when he doesn't try he's good at stuff but when he notices others he starts doing whatever he want thinking he's great.
There's an episode you sort of missed, in dunces and dragons, squidly mentions about his great (times 8 or something weird like that) grandson be cursed 10 fold if he couldn't be good at the clarinet, or.....maybe it was one of the notes.
Squidward can play well but he has the wrong clarinet. Squidward plays the original bass clarinet which was know for sounding horrible and people hated it (professionals clarinet players couldn't make it sound good and there was no real way to tune it) it wasn't until Adolphe Sax reinvented it that they started sounded good and people who played the original who switched over instantly sounded good on the reinvented clarinet
Squidward's playing is bad beyond tone deafness. I would deem this theory more plausible if he were playing a fretless string instrument like a violin, but in case with clarinet, he should be able to mechanically follow the score and produce something decent enough. To play as bad as it is portrayed, he has to do it intentionally. I have an alternative theory. Let's assume his species perceive sound in completely different manner, so the regular music sounds to them like random sounds. The other squids beings snobs imitate how other species play, but do not admit that they do not like it because they are expected to play like this, so it's kind of like snobs pretending to like "modern art" (you know the kind I'm talking about). But Squidward is just being honest with himself and he play in a manner that sounds good to HIM.
yeah, this. Clarinet and woodwinds are easier to follow than brass and strings. every note is a unique position of keys I think Squidward sounds good to my jazz ears. he squeaks a lot, but it's a genuinely good jazzy squeak, rather than a band-orchestra 14khz earrape. he just plays fast and loose, I respect his style. he takes advantage of the fact he has "frets" to Noodle around randomly.
like if Squidward owned brass or strings, he would sound like shit; but if he had an oboe or a bassoon, he would genuinely sound good (and revolutionary considering Jazz oboe isn't a thing) and that's what people forget. while Squidward is classical, he takes a lot more influence from soul and Jazz (Kelpy G) I mean, just remember that he led an entire band-orchestra for sweet victory that successfully combined band-orchestra and pop-rock. Squidward has chops, he just hides them behind appreciable skills like jazz
I'd say the point early on in the video that he only gets good when he de-stresses is the closest thing to the truth. It's not that he's tone deaf, it's not that he's cursed, and it's not that he's doing it on purpose. He just can't do it right because he's stressed out all the time. Think about it like this: He not only desires fame and fortune, he thinks he deserves it and is destined for it. He's obsessed with this ideal to crazy extremes, to the point of being a relentless perfectionist. Additionally, he has anger issues in general, with moody being his daily default emotional state for most of the day and even the tiniest thing Spongebob and/or Patrick is doing getting to him. With this in mind, it's not unthinkable that while he's practicing he's trying way too hard and every tiny little imperfection grinds his gears, throwing him mentally off balance to the point he can't play well due to constantly trying to overcompensate for his own mistakes.
Guys, he’s at actual fact that makes history in medieval episode. I forgot the name this medieval Squidward said if I don’t learn his clarinet let my great great grandson see cursed tenfold, there’s your answer😊
I always assumed his tentacles can’t fit all of the clarinet notes and his clarinet was a little broken due to spongebob using it to unclog his toilet once.
I think the reason is in "Graveyard Shift", remember when Spongebob said that he "used his clarinet to unclog his toilet"? What if he actually did and he's bad at playing because his clarinet is literally logged with shit-
I always assumed the reason he can't play is because of his suction cups because he's a squid/octopus. Try finessing an instrument like that with your hands covered in glue you can't get rid of.
even in a video about an alleged curse, you still use 110% less cursing than the average cartoon reviewer on UA-cam. Absolutely legendary, thanks so much 👍
There’s a couple things that you missed one. The cursed is from one episode of SpongeBob, where SpongeBob and Patrick go to medieval bikini bottom and when they’re in the dungeon, they meet the court jester that was also bad at the clarinet, but he curses his descendants a.k.a. Squidward to play the clarinet forever badly so I believe that is the thing that you missed the court will allow me it’s over
The real reason as to why he's not good at it, is it the episode lost in time, and you get to see his great great great family member, to which she calls him Squidward, his grandson be cursed tenfold, and that's why. Look at that episode, and you'll see
In dunces & dragons episode squidlee said “if i cannot learn to play this confounded instrument i curse my great great great great great great great grandson ten fold” so maybe thats why
My former teacher taught me that it doesn't sound like that because squidward is bad at playing,it's because clarinets can get water-logged and when they become wet it's messes up the pads and tone holes.
That could actually make some sense.
Hi we're back! This is a wonderful insight
Thats a great point
Thanks!
@flixtoon Thank you!
I thought that his clarinet was broken? He played great in the first episode before spongebob 'borrowed' it so I just thought he didn't have money to fix it
Ok
We're back! Maybe, that's why he's so annoyed with Spongebob
They literally confirmed the curse theory in the episode dunces and dragons.

Just wanted to solidify that he's defo not tone deaf

I remember that part of the episode.
And it’s also water log so it’s another reason to sound off
@Animegirl_2001 I didn't think about that, but that is an interesting point.
This is exactly what I was thinking!
Squidward can play well but he has the wrong clarinet.
Squidward plays the original bass clarinet which was know for sounding horrible and people hated it (professionals clarinet players couldn't make it sound good and there was no real way to tune it)
it wasn't until Adolphe Sax reinvented it that they started sounded good and people who played the original who switched over instantly sounded good on the reinvented clarinet
You mean the saxophone?
@@nataliealliepage7155 nope, he did invent the saxophone later on but one of the first things he did in the music world was reinvent the clarinet
Squidward is just a smart Donald Duck. They're both cursed.
Donald duck is smart too.
What I took away from this video is don’t try too hard and don’t let your ego get in your way

Why is SpongeBob everywhere that Squidward goes
I always thought it was him being tone deaf and having tentacles that can’t hit the right holes
It sounds like a clarinet in water… wait.
squidward sucks at clarenet like spongebob sucks at driving?
I'd say the point early on in the video that he only gets good when he de-stresses is the closest thing to the truth. You kinda sounds like Spatnz at the start
Isn't squidward actually cursed, though? Didn't that happen in Dunces and Dragons? Squidly was real so I wouldn't be surprised
squidward situation is crazy
When he played with the most famous most expensive clarinet he played great I’m guessing it’s his clarinet
These spongebob white background, cursed picture, title thumbnails are so goofy and hilarious
Guys, he’s at actual fact that makes history in medieval episode. I forgot the name this medieval Squidward said if I don’t learn his clarinet let my great great grandson see cursed tenfold, there’s your answer😊

I'm rooting for Squig and believe HE'S the only one with correct music taste and everyone else is just stupid.🗿
0:16 I know right I don’t understand how he’s this bad either
Idk how but this is scaring me and it's 4:47am , tbh I'm scared by everything, but you never know, because videos are different at night..
Honestly squiward is playing jazz. It literally sounds identical to most of the jazz I've heard
I think the reason is in "Graveyard Shift", remember when Spongebob said that he "used his clarinet to unclog his toilet"? What if he actually did and he's bad at playing because his clarinet is literally logged with shit-
the tentacles is no not a problem, Kelpy G can play it better and soothing.. its just squidward
I always assumed the reason he can't play is because of his suction cups because he's a squid/octopus.
Try finessing an instrument like that with your hands covered in glue you can't get rid of.
The Evaluator back at it again
Great vid, would like to know how u got the yt algo working in ur favor
or he dosent study lol
If Squidward can't play the clarinet because he doesn't have fingers, how's his idol Kelpy G able to play well since he's a Cephalopod like him?
I choose to believe he plays bad out of spite.
Hey man, my flutes are named Florence and Flutisima, it is very normal to name your instruments.
He will make a great voice actor for squidward
Squidward is Gargamel.
even in a video about an alleged curse, you still use 110% less cursing than the average cartoon reviewer on UA-cam. Absolutely legendary, thanks so much 👍
Could be what squidly seyed in duncess and dragons, that could stand as an actual course
There’s a couple things that you missed one. The cursed is from one episode of SpongeBob, where SpongeBob and Patrick go to medieval bikini bottom and when they’re in the dungeon, they meet the court jester that was also bad at the clarinet, but he curses his descendants a.k.a. Can you make a theory on my little pony friendship is magic Sofia the first or Elena of Avalor

Pretentiousness and a cringy lack of self-awareness. We all know at least ONE Squidward in real life.
Hello
your voice sounds really familiar
hmmm :))))
@@flixtoon_ I hope your day/night was great, and thats a mainly fact that I can give I think
Finally someone is asking this question.
Ive been waiting my whole life for this video
we're back to make more woot woot!
It's cause his clarinet isn't actually a clarinet so he's playing it wrong.
Poor Squidward
😞
We all love him so much and both understand his misery
Is mayonnaise an instrument? lol😅
Hes cured the Töne deaf theory makes no sense
It's his prideness
Second
wow so early, thanks!
Squidward is bad bc it helps the plot
👋
Can you a Miraculous or Rising of the shield hero theory
Meow
because he has no talent at all!
In dunces & dragons episode squidlee said “if i cannot learn to play this confounded instrument i curse my great great great great great great great grandson ten fold” so maybe thats why
