Something I think is important RE: Snake's "Your gun is shit" speech to Ocelot: The gun (A Makarov) uses the recoil as part of chambering a new round. Ocelot reflexively moves his arm to cushion the recoil. This is why the gun jams. Snake recommends a revolver because they don't have that design, and Ocelot's reflex will help with the recoil of a weapon with a heavier kick than most people would be comfortable using. So it's not Necessarily "your gun's shit, revolvers are cool", but "Your gun is shit for YOU, Revolvers are more suitable for YOUR style.", and that's why he never gets a more modern handgun in the future.
I didn't put this in the original video, but imo the explanation for why there were twelve Patriots in MGS2 but only five in MGS4 is that in MGS2 Snake and Raiden actually find information on the Philosophers from Snake Eater, but assume it refers to the Patriots.
In MGS3 Spirits only appear in the river with the sorrow, if you’ve killed something. So the bosses will automatically appear, and the animals you kill like birds and snakes, but if you don’t kill anyone, other than the story bosses, you’re walking down a empty river. Spirits will also appear based on how you killed someone. For example, I beat the whole game only cutting soldiers throats, so during the river, soldiers with cut necks are walking down saying things like my neck oh god etc. another run, I beat it killing nobody. Empty river. it’s so detailed, and that why I appreciate MGS 3.
The amount of times Monty says 'innit' in the unscripted commentary just makes my heart soar. I love listening to regional slang, it's so fun! E: Also, re: Bisexual villains. I recently came across a video by Alexander Avila, called "Queerbaiting Celebrities: An Overanalysis". In the video, he goes over a brief rundown on how Queerbaiting came to be in cinema. Turns out before the Hays code came into play in the 1930's, it was a free for all about what could be shown on film. When the MPAA was introduced and decided on, a lot of the subtext of queerness was relegated to villains and other 'undesireables' of society of the time. However, film makers would use these whistles as a way to give a nod to the queer audience, usually by lingering gazes between two same sex actors, or transgenderism being played for laughs in a romantic comedy. When the restrictions became more lenient from the 1950's onwards, the shorthand had already been ingrained, that you can still see to this day in film and television, though not always. I think because Kojima is especially influenced by movies, movie tropes, and cinematic shorthand in his games, I can definitely see him using this as something of a shorthand without realizing the perpetuating harm it causes to the queer community. As a queer person, I also get it, and I get a kick out of it because Kojima's games are just so over the top, but it also hurts a little bit that we're still the punchline after all this time.
"I thought Metal Gear 4 was actually surprisingly logical comparatively." I identified with that "WHAT?!" response.😂 Edit: For the record, Big Boss being "known" is at least partially justified because of his relationship and involvement with The Boss- they were both known pioneers in Close Quarters Combat.
Man, I think Kingdom Hearts was my first video, and I've really come to love you guys so clearly Chase did a good job getting me in. Been enjoying the latest Alan Wake stuff too. But the negativity throughout Metal Gear so far has been tough to listen to at times, and especially from a self described weeb who really should love this shit - or at the very least give allowance. But hey, there's also factors like listening to the story vs playing, wrong time/place, or whatever else. Ultimately all good, all love! On to part 3!
Right - I think MGS is a series that needs to be experienced. As much as the series can drop massive lore dumps and expositions, So much of the storytelling is in the gameplay. If anything, this series would've benefited from the modern, episodic, lore dump set up. There's so many details to try and squeeze multiple games into one episode. (MGS 4 having cutscenes that's about as long as the MGS4 segment of this video lol) I've got to show much respect to Monty's ambition. Because he fits a lot into this little bit of time. At the same time, I'm in love with seeing Monty and Chase find their footing, as someone who also started with the KH series. It's been super inspiring to see how far they've come and how much the formula's been adjusted.
To be honest. A lot of the criticism comes from summarizing too much of the plot. Lots of Chase's arguments are explained, like how Peace Walker AI system works. But because Monty has to make a summary, those details are lost and even mixed up making it hard to follow.
And also, it wasnt The President, he shook Lyndon Johnson's hand. He didn't shake the hand of the director of the CIA. It's important to the phone call in Peace Walker, where Big Boss calls the one of the chiefs of staff, who was there at the time and could verify the story.
(Reposting my comments over here to add some interaction for the new uploads!) Chase going OFF about all the retcons and metal gears designs is so absolutely hilarious to me as someone who's never had the chance to play any Metal Gears and is also coming right from the Kingdom Hearts Lore Dumps because all I can think of is the meme: "Corporate wants you to tell the difference between these two pictures." Nomura and Kojima are shown "I don't see any difference." (Obviously stylistically and from a game-design standpoint they're WILDLY different, but from a brilliantly batshit storytelling standpoint, they've got similar energies. Hell, even though Kojima's sexism may be more overt all I have to say is White Bread. Poor White Bread.) But also, I've said this before and I'll say it again: fuck Konami and the bullshit the game industry is pulling. I didn't realize when I made the connection between the two directors in like part 1, but as a JRPG addict, Squeenix has been veering in a worrying direction with the NFT and mobile bullshit, selling off their smaller studios, etc-but shoutout to creators with clout like Kojima making their stand. I'm particularly fond of (tho I haven't played it myself, but I've heard of it from multiple people) Yoko Taro making a NieR mobile gatcha game that has the usual garbage, but he's made the base grind so BRUTAL with no pay to win on that front that it undermines some of the basic gatcha systems. Bless people fighting back and saying fuck you to this garbage still going on in the gaming industry today. What Kojima went through as a pioneer and legend of the industry-and especially as a creator in general-was even more horrific than the rumors I’d heard back in the day. Fuuuuuuck Konami. Aaaand that was a lot of ranting, sorry! I-and most other gamers tbh-am pissed off about this garbage, but also very importantly: this video series was a RIDE and I'm so happy I now have a grasp of the insanity behind Metal Gear. You guys are hilarious and brilliant and I'm looking forward to binging more videos!
Funny that he’s complaining about the Metal Gears not firing nukes when talking about peace Walker when that’s the hardest part of the boss fight is trying to agro it from launching nukes. This one actually has it firing the nuke as a game over scenario xD
To quote SomeCallMeJohnny about MGS3's title - "You were expecting Metal Gear nope not this time! Kind of makes the title of the game incorecct, it should be Shagohod Solid, oh hold on a second we're not even playing as Solid Snake this time so it should be Shagohod Naked."
The Sorrow isnt actually part of Cobra Unit during the events of MGS3. He was actually killed by The Boss before the game starts because she was ordered to by her government. Hes a ghost that helps out Snake during the mission
Final one: _I've wanted to nickpick and correct you, probably every 30 minutes throught this and Part 1. But it's too damn adorable for me to do so._ plus if I did, I'd have to do a companion vid to this to fill in the holes. And I don't have the motivation... yet... _if I do, I hope I have your blessing._
Chase, the reason he isn't called Big Boss in Peacewalker is because in every game (except MGS2) you have to play as a Snake. Thats just a rule of metal gear
Fun fact: there is 1 simple clue that you deduce that the body wasnt Big Boss but Solidus. Despite them being basically genetically identical ...... Big Boss loss his Right Eye .... Solidus lost his Left Eye ..... the body .... is missing its left eye.
i often wonder why people are so much more confused by these games, then i see videos like this and its like, holy fuck, i thought i was bad at reading comprehension. great videos, love ya guys, but so much important shiz is either skipped, out of order, mixed up, or wrong. thank god they moved on to scripts.
to the question of the why lalilulelo i mean zero in mgs3 said it was a password and in 4 it turns out that zero was part of the patriots and lalilulelo makes sense now ig
You know what, I'm gonna accept the bitcoin wallet, but it is just the collection of all the physically addresses, banks, bank numbers, key location and so on of all the money. But sure, bitcoin wallet :)
To answer why la li lu le lo is a good idea even though a ton of people know about the patriots is the theme of the game: ideas. Even if you know something, if you can’t name it or talk about it easily you avoid the subject and with time that knowledge doesn’t get passed down generations this burying the knowledge. About the metal gear vs nuclear subs. It would be a lot easier for the russian to move a small mech with a nuclear payload through southamerica (contested territories in the cold war) than moving a sub into us controlled waters.
*DISCLAIMER*
Thanks for being here! This episode is a reupload, transferring our backlog of Lore Dumps from the Monty Zander youtube channel.
Monty: *reads out absolutely insane Character name/title*
*begins chuckling wildly*
Chase: "Kojima why"
It gets funnier the longer it goes on

Genuinely my favorite game series. Even though all the games piss me off I can't stop playing.
I didn't put this in the original video, but imo the explanation for why there were twelve Patriots in MGS2 but only five in MGS4 is that in MGS2 Snake and Raiden actually find information on the Philosophers from Snake Eater, but assume it refers to the Patriots.
In mgs 3 the meeting password between snake and his informate during the snake eater mission was LA-LE-LU-LE-LO

"Volgin is pretty much the most evil character in the series."
Huey Emmerich; _Hold my beer._
1:30:00 I love this so, SO much. This is the perfect character arc, there will never be a better arc than this.
The amount of times Monty says 'innit' in the unscripted commentary just makes my heart soar. I love listening to regional slang, it's so fun!

I really love this channel and lore dump but damn listening to these early episodes chase gets on my nerves more and more each time

"pulling back the curtain" cringe
"look behind the drapery" based and venom pilled
Like Chase, I have also experienced aging and tiring just from lore and fandom being too much.
Chase enjoy anything challenge impossible

You skipped Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
The formation of the patriots: siging aka chief anderson, paramedic… portable ops was cool as hell
to the question of the why lalilulelo i mean zero in mgs3 said it was a password and in 4 it turns out that zero was part of the patriots and lalilulelo makes sense now ig
It isn't her fault that he's dying. His natural biological lifespan is short because it was designed to be, as a clone of Big Boss.
You know what, I'm gonna accept the bitcoin wallet, but it is just the collection of all the physically addresses, banks, bank numbers, key location and so on of all the money.

Damn chase is annoying me on this one haha . It just sounds like everything he is saying is negative and condescending.
