MGS2 is a simulation the same way the DMV is a simulation. Its meant to emulate a real world situation. The only thing is Raiden isn't aware it was all set up by the illuminati. Its supposed to be another nature vs nurture theme. Where Solidus is the perfect clone of big boss representing nature, and Raiden trained to be like Snake representing nurture.
Monty saying that he doesn't want to hear about Kingdom Hearts, and that he doesn't want lore dumps being multiple parts to be common is just *chef's kiss*
One thing I expected to get mentioned, when Chase guessed that the previous 3 games to MGS2 were a simulation, was Twin Snakes. The remake of MGS1, except with mechanics lifted from 2, more absurd, exaggerated cutscenes (Snake dropkicks Metal Gear Rex at one point) and, curiously, there's an easter egg of some of the diamond targets from the VR training mode hidden in the game. And while it's never been officially stated, some people have argued that Twin Snakes is a simulation of the "Real" events in MGS1, being experienced by Raiden.
The simulation in MGS2 is a real life simulation. A field test. I think people's perception of the word "simulation" are so digitized now that the concept of "real life" simulation is such a foreign concept to them...
Important Distinction! Whenever it's a topic of Simulation, I ask to clarify whether it's *Digital* or Something closer to a Clockwork Autonomous (plans laid out) And if that's too much, It's the Difference between Matrix and Dune (as per Paul atreades P.o.v as Tragic character)
Re: "Iroquois Pliskin": Iroquois is a Huron word meaning "Black snake", and Pliskin is a reference to Snake Pliskin, from the Escape From movies. So Snake went into hiding as Mr. Snakey McSnakerson and no-one realized.
@@razgriz1ne1ne48 Another fun fact: the cover of the first Metal Gear game is a drawing of Kyle Reese from Terminator 1. Just a redrawn screenshot from the movie.
Even in MGS1 if the box was in a suspicious area the guards will check it out. The box can also be used in the trucks to quickly move between areas and used near wolves to make them pee on you so their scent is on Snake making them not attack him anymore
SPOILER: I thiiiink Liquid died because Solid was spreading the FoxDie around after Naomi gave it to him. I think that's also why Solid was gonna self terminate at the end of MGS4, since the FoxDie in his system were old nano machines, and him living longer would allow them to degrade to the point they didn't ONLY kill Foxhound people anymore (essentially, he'd have been a nanite plague carrier). Vague recollections, honestly.
Fortune had a electric magnetic field device that Oculot had snuck on her body which made bullets avoid her. When she confronted him he revealed this, turned it off and shot her in the heart only she has a condition where her heart is located OPPOSITE of where it should be so she got back up. When oculot goes to shoot her again its revealed that she does in fact actually has powers and uses them to move the bullets out of the way saving everyone. She then dies from blood lost
What makes Metal Gear such a feared weapon is that it can Launch nukes without being detected, can launch from virtually anywhere in the world, is heavily armored, and has massive fire power and later on is A.I. controlled
Okay, so because I LOVE Metal Gear Solid, I have to point out some things Monty mispresented to Chase. Sorry for the wall of text... Solid and Liquid Snake were genetically modified before birth. They edited their genes and made it so Solid had the dominant (superior) genes and Liquid had the recessive (inferior) genes. However, at the end of MGS1, Ocelot confirms that Liquid was actually the one with dominant genes and Solid Snake was the lesser. This makes sense because it literally took a super-virus to kill Liquid in the end. He survived being blown up with Metal Gear Rex, falling off the top of it (which he himself said would be fatal), and a car accident...all within a short period of time! Ironically, Solid Snake proves that it's nurture that triumphed over nature, since he was supposed to be inferior but always survived in the end. Foxdie was a virus that was intended to kill ALL of the people at Shadow Moses so that Rex could be retrieved undamaged. It was part of Snakes mission all along, he just never knew it. Naomi knew and volunteered for the mission so she could take revenge on Snake. She was never working for the terrorists. She sent coded messages to Gray Fox on the island, which was misinterpreted as her working for the terrorists. For that, she was arrested near the end of the game. Notably, upon learning of Snake's true nature and respect for her brother, she changed it and delayed his death, as Monty said. Though she was very cryptic about it. She just told him to live and didn't mention anything about what she did. Snake kept asking when his time would come and all she said was "Live Snake. That's all I can tell you." The S3 Plan - Solid Snake Simulation - completely takes place in reality. Raiden is the test subject, trying to show that with his VR training, he can accomplish missions as well as Solid Snake despite never seeing real combat (except he was a child soldier so that is a bit of a plot hole). Everything that happened in the game was real, planned by the Patriots. All the similarities, like having Raiden face superpowered baddies, is meant to simulate what Snake went through in his previous missions. He always fought superpowered baddies, destroyed a Metal Gear, and "rescued" VIPs during his missions. The Patriots were testing Raiden to see if he could do the same after his VR training. And he could, but whether that's because of his child solider past or not is up for grabs. Not to mention GW tells Raiden that S3 doesn't stand for Solid Snake Simulation at all, that was just what everyone was meant to believe. Fortune couldn't be hit by bullets or grenades because the Patriots used their tech to shield her, something she never knew. They turned it off and Ocelot was able to kill her then. She then uses her powers for real before she dies, making you wonder if it was all the Patriots or not (it's meant to be up to interpretation). Ocelot uses the same tech to keep Solidus from killing him as he hijacks Ray. Olga was working with the Sons of Liberty as a double agent for the Patriots. She only saved Raiden because the Patriots were monitoring his vitals with nanomachines. If he dies, her child would die. She saved him in order to save her child. She didn't care one way or another about Solidus or his plan. She actually hated Snake because her father was killed on the tanker during the prologue, which Monty left out entirely (never even mentioning his name). Ocelot betrayed her father, not her specifically. She supposedly never knew Ocelot betrayed her father, until Solid Snake told her the truth when they fought off-screen while Raiden was rescuing Emma. Ocelot was actually a Patriot spy. He was undercover for them to stop Solidus as a last ditch effort. He wasn't a third party, he didn't want to kill the Patriots (at least that what we're led to believe in this MGS2), he was literally working for the bad guys all along. Ghost Liquid in his body took over so he could find and kill the Patriots because Ocelot knows who and where they are (supposedly). Ocelot DOES NOT regain control of himself, it is from this point on that Liquid has full control of his body going into MGS4 (I'm purposefully not explaining everything about Ocelot here because it's spoilers for MGS4). Snake is chasing after Liquid not Ocelot. Okay...all out of my system...
1:02:40 no, Metal Gear has a *precision railgun.* Meaning it doesn't need a missile, it can just launch the nuclear warhead thousands of miles away with pinpoint accuracy and then rebase somewhere without needing *roads*.
RE: "What's a simulation, what isn't?": The entire Big Shell incident is a simulation, AND real. The events are all happening, but they've been set up to, in some ways, replicate the events of MGS1. 1:16:40 I believe the premise is that they used a specific cloning method seen in IRL early cloning experiments (90s maybe) where the method of selecting genes created two viable embryos, one with the desired genes and one with the exact opposite (every binary pair is the polar opposite in the second embryo). You thus get the perfect specimen and also the runt who's the exact opposite of everything you chose. Liquid learned he was the latter, and thus hates Solid and wants to prove he's better than him. No shade for not grasping that, since metal gear's own explanation screws up 7th grade biology and has liquid ranting about how he has the inferior recessive genes.
my favorite part about the explanation being bad is that in MGSV Kaz jokes about him struggling with biology--so canonically at least, it could be wrong because *liquid* doesn't get it lmao.

Naomi inject snake with foxdie and made him a carrier, that’s why everyone that comes into contact with him from the foxhound unit dies. Also metal gears are not that dumb. Nukes biggest draw back is that they require launch platforms and that are big and take time to build so putting legs on a nuke platform is quite ingeneous. I know this is Waaaay late but I'll just add to why Metal Gears are feared in the series. 1. Compared to a Missle Silo, they are far more maneuverable (duh) and much harder to detect from satellites, especially inthink Rex since it had a minor cloaking device on top to perfectly camouflage it from ariel views 2, Submarines i think were more easy to detect and if found harder to hide 3, reason for it being Bipedal rather than tank treads was ironically if they were to build a tank that big it would cost more in the long run in both resources and fuel, also likely wouldnt be as maneuverable of take speed into account, the Bipedal frame offered stability at less weight/resources/more agility (this is evidenced by how quick Rex is in MGS4 despite it had already taking the beating it did in MGS1) Also i think there is some fair reasoning to why Metal Gears/mechs in-between MGS3 and MG1 are more advanced is simply they all had Huey Emmerich develop them or be consultant i think, he was THE ORIGINAL creator along with Granin in MGS3, after MGS5 Huey never made one again so the downgrade is seems reasonable imo, and makes sense that the most advanced one since MGS5 timeline wise was Rex that his son developed

That's not Solid Snake - that's Kyle Reese.
Speak for yourselves; _Metal Gear Awesome is all you need to understand MGS_
We do know that Solidus’ real name is George ;3
Ive watched this countless times now and only just realised i never pressed the like button, my bad
Snake pliscan best character
I think he is wearing AR contacts
53:21 Naomi's a traitor
Metal gear solid is kind of a remake of metal gear 2
I know this is Waaaay late but I'll just add to why Metal Gears are feared in the series.
1. Compared to a Missle Silo, they are far more maneuverable (duh) and much harder to detect from satellites, especially inthink Rex since it had a minor cloaking device on top to perfectly camouflage it from ariel views
2, Submarines i think were more easy to detect and if found harder to hide
3, reason for it being Bipedal rather than tank treads was ironically if they were to build a tank that big it would cost more in the long run in both resources and fuel, also likely wouldnt be as maneuverable of take speed into account, the Bipedal frame offered stability at less weight/resources/more agility (this is evidenced by how quick Rex is in MGS4 despite it had already taking the beating it did in MGS1)
Also i think there is some fair reasoning to why Metal Gears/mechs in-between MGS3 and MG1 are more advanced is simply they all had Huey Emmerich develop them or be consultant i think, he was THE ORIGINAL creator along with Granin in MGS3, after MGS5 Huey never made one again so the downgrade is seems reasonable imo, and makes sense that the most advanced one since MGS5 timeline wise was Rex that his son developed
