Must say thanx for these videos. Been dealing with annoying hardware for scout carry for a while. This has me in love with my belt knife all over again.
Been there, done that. Recommend centerline (in front of your body, exact opposite side of this video). 1) Small of back (S O B) carry is DANGEROUS. If you fall on your back you risk paralysis or serious spinal injury. A small, rigid object in that area concentrates all the force into a few vertebrae. 2) As someone else already mentioned: It would be more stable if you had two separate vertical cord loops: one through the two holes near the tip of the blade and the other loop through the two nearest the handle.
no way that carrying in the front is better. It will be in the way for so many things and also that area isn't even going to touch the ground when you fall and if it does it wont be any further out that your upper back /butt etc.
I carried a couple knives this way for a bit. I put a couple ranger bands around the sheath where it would make contact with the belt to keep it from sliding as much. I also gutted the Paracord and used only the outer tube so it would have less of an issue with stretching and loosening up.
Excellent video, and carry idea. The one, and ONLY complaint I have with paracord carry, and even some of the sheaths is the ability to remove the knife without having to take your belt off first. Between folders, and tec-lok options, I'm completely spoiled with being able to remove things like fixed blades, and even my flashlight. However, that being said, this idea is great if, like you said, those options fail, or cannot be employed. At least there's a way to carry. Thank you!
You're correct and I agree! It definitely would be way more convenient if you didn't have to remove your belt. I'm trying to think of something like that using paracord. It might work with some small buckles and perhaps some cobra knot straps as the belt loops. Just a matter of getting the right tension and rigidity on the belt at that point. Thanks for commenting and checking it out, you've given me more ideas to play around with!
@@TheWeaversofEternity That's the easy part. Take one end of the buckle, and tie a larkshead knot to it, then pass it through the hole, then add the other buckle end to the cord. Then lash it behind the belt, and wrap it until the buckles join, and can be snapped. You'd have to have two separate strands, and it's not an elegant solution, but it will work in a pinch.
3:30 i put my pointer on the point and my free hand on the sheath then i let my minds hand eye guide my fingers to each other. keeps you haptic with the point in hindsight
I love the scout carry for general freedom of movement when doing something around camp or walking, also it is not poking the eye if you are in conversation, probably is very good on horseback or bike. But in a car,or to reach under longer garments or with backpack becomes a problem. Sheath should be leather and in more fixed position slightly off center depending which hand is dominant.
@ch2507d it's not in your back as a buldge though because your back is curved there lol when you sit back against a seat u can reach your hand behind you in the lumbar area. So aslong as you use a edc sized fixed blade you'll be fine. Not some giant survival knife or full sized combat knife.
Great videos. I thought I'd try making a snake knot from what I've learned in your previous videos, to finish some Tibetan style prayer beads I'm making. My attempt kind of worked out and it looks pretty alright. Hopefully I can practice more and really nail that paracording technique. Thanks
If you don't wrap around either side of a belt loop, you can slide the sheath to either side as you need. This makes re-sheathing the knife much easier.
In regards to the micarta getting wet, it will actually maintain better grip when it's wet. Weird, but it actually does have less slip when wet. But if the micarta is really overly smooth & it's concerning, sand it some to rough it up a lil. Or, one could put some contoured ridges in it with a drimmel.
I think this Civivi model comes with the molle bracket that can be bolted to the sheath. They usually can be changeable for standard to scout carry position adjustment + clip allowing for fast belt attachment/detachment without having to take off/put back on your belt. But this is a paracord channel & aimed for cordophiles. with quality 550+ this will definitely make for a pretty cool scout carry! It wouldn't slide while drawing too bad, if the sheath sits with a beltloop along its right side. This sliding while drawing is typical for most scout carry fixed blades.
It does! But I currently can't find it hahaha, and yeah I just meant to show a corded option in case one didn't have the hardware or their sheath just didn't come with any. And yeah, the sliding issue was only if I didn't use my thumb to push the sheath off. But perhaps if I had the middle belt loop in the middle of the sheath, that could also help. Thanks for commenting and checking it out!
I'm a little more old school and carry my fixed blade in a snug leather sheath and rather than attach it to my belt i insert it horizontally so the middle of my knife sits just behind my belt buckle the same way it would have been worn by my grandfathers in their sash(mom's side) or belt(dads side)
Using shockcord works better. The problem with carrying the knife behind your back is the blade has to cross your body when bringing the knife to your front. In a defensive position if that knife is intercepted or deflected in any way, it is very likely going to end up stuck in your side. I personally prefer wearing scout carry on the front, though i am not a huge fan of the scout carry in general😅 I try to keep the knife as far away from my body as possible when carrying it, which is why I also won't wear a kydex sheath tucked in my pants because the blade when drawn is to close to your vitals. Pistol yes . Knife no.
Hi...saw a video on FB that you did for making a pouch/cover for a flashlight. Came to youtube looking for you and that video but haven't found it. Do you have a video on your UA-cam channel??
My experience is paracord cannot stay tight enough to be stable and consistent in carry position and draw for a belt/scout/appendix set up. Even if you were able to get it tight, it will stretch with time and get floppy. If you want a genuine civivi T clip let me know, I will send you one. I have transitioned almost exclusively to Discreet Carry Concepts clips, and have some spare T clips I don’t use.
in what universe are you falling on the small of your back...the curved recessed area that wont even touch the ground before your upper back or butt lol..
@raydrexler5868 hiking you're going to fall and land on the most recessed part of your back? Would you not be wearing some kind of pack etc? Seems very unlikely
@ A day hike for instance. It’s not as unlikely as you might imagine since it’s actually a pretty common occurrence. I’m advocating for care in how you place your knife in scout and what knife you choose (maybe not a big ole chunk). I usually wear mine on my backpack when I’m wearing a backpack.
@raydrexler5868 but my question is how the heck do you hit the small of your back in a fall lol your upper back protrudes more and so does your butt. That's assuming you don't even try to catch yourself at all. I can't see the curved portion of your back ever being the first to hit or taking the main impact. Mine is very curved so maybe that's why 🤷♂️
Amateur….the blade is stuck in the skull of the bear, or sticking out of the skull of the last wolf you terminated as you look up and scream a victory cry to the heavens
something is wrong with you if you cant put a knife back in a sheath at scout carry, ive never had a single issue with it even the first time i ever did it :/
@ I look forward to hearing about your experience when you have been in the $hit and are completely smoked…”Something wrong with me?” Clearly your vast experience dwarfs my meager existance…
ohh noo. Dude I normally love your content. But this is horrible. That knife will be loose and will be flopping around in 15 minutes. Two small pieces of paracord to form a secure vertical loop for each pair of holes (left and right) would be way better. Don't settle for this rubbish! Come at it and try again! Third times the charm!! Friend, you got this!
My belt has 2 rows of holes and 2 teeth. So, ide run cords thru the holes tightly and solve that sheath movement issue. Sometimes you just have to apply common sense solutions😊
I was going to add the same comment having tried both for horizontal carry. This method forms an "X" in the center and tends to become very unstable allowing the blade to dip forward and backward. Make two loops across the sheath ( || ) which is much more stable.
scout carry is actually very good in the car and sitting in general as long as you arent carrying some obnoxiously large fixed blade. its actually much more comfortable and less noticeable than typical vertical belt carry

backpack shouldnt be hanging that low and why are we deploying knives in the car lol
@GrandmasterHobbyist you are not deploying it in the car but it is in your back as a bulge. Backpack should not be too low but life is not perfect

This is quite useful. Thanks for the tip!!
Shivworks makes a great EDC called the clinch pick. If you take a dremel wheel and make small groves on your handle, it'll give you a better grip.
Great video. Also, great recommendation to use hold a torch (Flashlight).
Thanks, you inspired a couple of ideas.

That's a good idea, and what braclet is that you're wearing I always wear black bracelets
That's just a simple knot and loop cobra knot bracelet, my go to haha
Thanks for the video

tamashi is awesome, got two, same as you and a satin finished with black g10.
What if the hole on the sheath are to small for paracord ??

reverse draw from scout carry is faster and already moving in a slashing motion. It is by far the fastest and most efficient
A random question do you like Nylon Paracord or polyester Paracord for casual camping?😅
Hi...saw a video on FB that you did for making a pouch/cover for a flashlight. Came to youtube looking for you and that video but haven't found it. Do you have a video on your UA-cam channel??

I get the principle and normally I love using paracord buuut I’m gonna go ahead and say a sturdy clip might be a better way to go.
Scout carry. Look like a badass when you draw, and a dumbass when it’s time to sheath 😂
Hahaha so true! 🤣
The issue with scout carry is falling on your back. You can do serious damage with a knife in the small of your back, so don’t do it when hiking.
in what universe are you falling on the small of your back...the curved recessed area that wont even touch the ground before your upper back or butt lol..

Hiking. Usually heading downhill.

Much better carry at the 12 O'Clock. Especially for smaller fixed blades.
Try putting a scout carry knife back after a conflict….
...as in like a conflict with a pack of wolves or a bear?
Yes, one must indeed practice with their tool. Idiot.

This is a bad place to carry a knife. If you fall on your back it can cause spine injuries.
This dude doesnt drive...
I drive... just not with a large fixed blade on my back lol
Not much driving to do when you're scouting.
@ivanquiles4903 only scouting I know is looking for talent at the hockey rink....
