    Its crazy how people will pay for stuff like this when you can learn to stitch, sew, knot, etc fairly easily by learning on youtube and you can source literally all the materials from to make like 50 of these things from Aliexpress for like 9 bucks lol.
    When anything breaks around the house I get excited because its an opportunity to learn to fix something better than it was before.

      It's definitely one of those situations where people just lack the know how and/or are just willing to pay for the convenience to have it shipped right to their door. But I'm with you on that, I also prefer to be able to fix things myself unless it's something way out of my league!

    • @chromenewt
      @chromenewt 3 місяці тому

      Definitely. Having the internet at your fingertips means anything can be looked up (even easier with ChatGPT). I pretty much make anything I need from stuff in the recycling bin, some gaffer tape, paracord and if it needs to be fancy I invested in a 3D printer which has been absolutely phenomenal. Combine with a phone app called Polycam and if a broken part needs replacing then I roughly glue it back together, use Polycam to make an STL file and then (after checking and fine tuning any measurements) print off a new part. I got really into CAD purely so I can design something I need and then print it off.
      Paying for convenience is legitimate though (I pay for pre-grated cheese because I hate skinning my knuckles and cleaning the grater afterwards annoys the crap out of me because it takes ages) but a bit of paracord, two toggles and a carabiner for £22ish is bonkers.

    I have noticed a lot of things on kickstarter like that, things that would be so easy for anyone to make its almost pointless to do a kickstarter for it, so far the only two things i have gotten on kickstarter was way back when i saw peak designs capture camera clip, i still use it all the time, and one of my favorite artists did an art book lol.

      I've supported a few kickstarters myself too, but similar to you, they were for things I could definitely not make myself. One was a titanium carabiner and the other was a titanium pen haha

    • @anteshell
      @anteshell 3 місяці тому +4

      This kind of kickstarters are apparently really good way to earn by targeting people who have more money than brain. Seen some ridiculous things such as machined screwbits from titanium. Sure, you probably can't make them yourself and they last a bit longer than traditional tool metal and whatnot, but nothing really can justify the ridiculous price for such things.
      I would even argue that kind of things are straight up scams, praying on peoples' inability to distinguish between their needs and wants.

    In 15 minutes I made a pair of carry handles for three 2 liter bottles with eight zip ties and a pair of old bootlaces. Six zip ties were used to form adjustable loops to go over the rims of 2 liter bottle necks, with some double overhand knots to form stops at the zip ties. the two remaining zip ties formed the hand grip loops. This is just like the leather thong gadgets that have been sold for decades to carry game birds and other small animals taken in the field, except it only cost pennies to make. I expect zip ties could replace the slides on your design for even more savings. The also have a trimmer look than the spring sliders, IMO.

    So I just lost a REALLY good pair of over the ear headphones while on a work trip because I took them out of my bag to do something and forgot them on the chair. I've done this once before as well, so I thought "What if I just make a tether that I MUST put on if I'm going to take these out of the bag so even if I Forget them, they drag along until I notice my mistake?" So this is going to be my first paracord project, and I feel like this video gives me some good ideas on where to start. I'm going to make something that I can loop around the ear with a cow hitch so it's easy to take off when I don't need it, and then I may make a nice paracord bracelet on the other end, unless I can come up with a better way to attach it to myself. Also, I need to go find some of those cord locks because those look useful!
    Any suggestions / tips would be greatly appreciated!

    This might be going out on a limb, but maybe this channel and community could help.
    I made a set of paracord suspenders for my brother (he’s always moving and tends to wear out stuff very quickly) and they’ve held up for the years he’s been wearing them. He’s gotten a few people asking if they could buy a set, but there’s the problem. I couldn’t figure out how to make them size adjustable so it was a custom fit and one size fits all isn’t the vibe with suspenders. Any ideas how I could incorporate something to adjust the length?

    • @TheWeaversofEternity
      @TheWeaversofEternity  3 місяці тому

      The first thing that came to mind was somehow incorporating the Mad Max cincher that's on the Mad Max style paracord bracelets, which could potentially allow for adjustable paracord suspenders, but that would depend on how you're making them. If you're using solomon knots I think it would be a good solution.

    Fearly cool.. but it sounds like most of the applications needed here will already have permanent hanger's. The coat idea is ok. I guess I can see having a few in my pack for survival emergencies like I lost my my gear and need to start making repayments. But most likely I'll just need the cord and hardware and not a universal hanger.
    I bought a survival bracelet one time and fell in love. I want to make a belt and amulet/neckless. And maybe a cross harness and/or satchel hanger. These might bee good for many on my cross harness.

    You've said it's cheaper but not actually listed your costs. Problem is even then if you did you've not included labour costs, marketing costs or need for profit - it's really not a fair comparison of the two. It's a great tutorial on how to make one which seems to be your actual goal here, but it's not fair to say the cost is too high on the Kickstarter product when you're not comparing it to the same criteria.

      The round carabiner version that's closer to the Kickstarter version is only about 60 cents each, so that version is much closer to the $3 mark. But either way it's still way under the $30 they're asking for on Kickstarter.

    Ужас! Всё это можно сделать ещё дешевле. Взять с собой 1 метр верёвки и выучит пару узлов и всё!

    Kickstarter used to be amazing. I’d spend hours every week looking at the new stuff.
    Now it’s just fidget toys and useless overpriced rubbish.

      Yeah, it's definitely changed a lot over the past few years. There are still some gems out there, but you usually have to find them via Instagram or elsewhere instead of just directly browsing Kickstarter

    Don't be sloppy with the names, causing confusion: TWO wraps around a line and feeding the end through the wraps is a double fishermen's knot, the scaffold knot is done with THREE wraps! I use the double fishermen's knot a lot with paracord loops of different sizes - if you pull the two knots apart, you can tie in water bottles, shoes, jackets, sweaters or tools, everything with a reduction between two bulkier sides and hang it on you belt, pack or throw it over your shoulder. Useful knot to connect two pieces of cord or rope too.
    Don't mind the Kickstarter Project, as many others, it's heavily overprized.

      My bad! I'll be sure to be more cognizant of the proper names in the future, thanks for pointing that out!
