No. It comes with a sticky factory lube that offers long lasting protection. You can certainly add a lighter grease or oil or even wax it, but it's good for at least 100 mi as is! I suggest some cleaning and lubrication every 100 mi.
The primary measure is short to short cog. It should not rub the gear pulley (nearest the rear gears). But should also allow big to big without issues, like becoming too tight and binding. You also need to ensure the limits are set so it doesn't hop off the cassette or freewheel.
Considering this came from a chain company this is the most useless video ever. It should include what to look for to make sure you order a proper replacement. That should be #1 and it's why I'm here from the company's website.
KMC joining method is far better than that of Shimano, but manufacturers are making it so you cant relube/ degrease chain off bike!, you clean instantly degrease a chain in seconds! just drop it your left over petrol from your mover/ strimmer etc! once done let it hang overnight, drip some oil down and you are good to go next day. Im talking bout the days of Sedis and Reynolds chains et al (not too long ago) ! So , each time you want to clean your chain on a Shimano do you have to drive out that "pin" and replace it with a new pin through the same location on the chain? surely that's introducing weakness? KMC method is more "user friendly" because if you have a spare link you can apparently get yourself home without having to carry a full tool kit! Before these methods were imposed how many times did chains snap? I was a club cyclist for 15 years prior to my present state of happy recrianonal cyclist and never once saw a chain snap !!
Apparently, the new missing link for 11s is non-reusable so if you remove the chain for cleaning, you have to use a new missing link when you put it back on your bike (whereas you can use the same missing link after cleaning the chain for 9 and 10 speed)! As I'd like to clean my chain once a month, the cost would add up real fast.
So what if the first (old) chain is the wrong length? Well genius here just copies the old length and installs the new chain without even knowing if the first one was the proper length... Unbelievable ! ! ! ! !
Couple of mm stretch will not make a big difference when you "cut" your chain. You have to make sure to line up the links so you will have the same amount. It is that simple.
VERY UNHAPPY with this video and the packaging for the chain. I have to correct my comment because I see the new chain does infact come with the required part to connect the chain. This video was ambiguous to this fact and the package did not mention it.
Hi Tina. Thank you for reaching out. All KMC Chains include either a missing link or pin for installation. If this wasn't included, I suggest you reach out to the seller and see what happened.
That's a sweet tip to thread the chain through the rear der. I'll probably be doing that several times a week. Cheers!
Thorough and detailed. Well thought out and delivered - cheers guys.
Clear and concise. Perfect. thanks.
Great video! To the point! Thank you!
Very useful. Thanks.
is this recorded with a potato??
very good!
Do you first clean the new chain? Different videos recommend different procedures. I thought KMC would include the info!

There is a whole internet full of the various methods of calculating chain length. If you're such a genius, off you go and find out for yourself.
