The name of Indonesia should tell you what Indian influence had on them.

The very name Singapore has Indian/Sanskrit roots. Singha or Sinha means lion, and "pur" is a common place name suffice meaning city of -- think of cities in India like Jaipur, Nagpur. So Singapore means City of Lions. Also, that ocean is called the Indian Ocean for a reason -- the Indians were the dominant maritime presence.

I did not know about this till I visited Thailand. I was surprised to see their version of Ramayana dance drama! They are more open to celebrating Hindu mythology and historical stories than India. I was surprised to see the huge Samudra Mandan tableau right in the middle of their airport! Their kings are called Rama the 1, Rama the 2 etc… they have their own Ayodhya .. You will see this in all of South East Asia.

Neal, you should try and find the interviews of Carl Sagan…..he wrote the book Cosmos…..I think he had a series……also watch the movie “ Contact”…..with Jodi Foster……
Also, see the documentaries on Borobudur temple in Indonesia, and Angkor Wat in Cambodia… the Amarnath cave in India, and Mount Kailash in the Himalayas…..
