It's kind of presumptuous to assume all Taylor Swift fans didn't know who Ryan Adams was before... I've been listening to him since I was thirteen and I'm twenty-five now. We are a fandom of diverse tastes and backgrounds, not a monolith.

The irony is stinging and beautiful here - what a ballsy thing to do at this stage of his career! But what has always been so cool about Ryan is he understands good songs - and boy - tongue in cheek or not - he absolutely delivers here. On a scale of 10 - its a frikin 11. Home run Ryan! Thanks for being such a authentic artist who has NO fear of the industry powers. You ae a hero.

Ryan is the only reason that I respect Taylor as a songwriter.
When I first heard this cover, I thought the lyrics didn't match the music but I realized he is singing from a confessional point of view while Taylor's was tongue in cheek. I like how this cover brings such a sad perspective to these lyrics.
I stared into space for a good long while when I was reminded that Pitchfork did not review Taylor Swift’s 1989 but did review Ryan Adams’s cover album of Taylor Swift’s 1989.
As someone who has listened to Ryan Adams for almost 10 years, it's decent. It doesn't blow me away by any means like many of his albums have, but I don't think that was the effect he was attempting to achieve. This man is such a prolific and dynamic song-writer, and whatever criticism he takes for recording a pop record like this will undoubtedly happen. To the T-Swift fanboys and fangirls, this man has been writing outstanding music for 25 years. If you like the covers of these songs, give his catalog a listen.

+zpflegh1 Lol Ryan Adams has a good voice and excellent guitar skills, but has a pretty forgettable catalog. Pretty much everything he recorded after heartbreaker was a crock of self-absorbed bullshit he expected us to go along with. He thinks too highly of himself to record anything as sincere as that album ever again. Listen to the lyrics on his latest EP and you'll hear flashes of his songwriting potential, but you'll also see he hardly takes his music seriously. It's all a game to him. Kind of a bummer for such a talented guy.
No wonder Taylor keeps posting how she can't wait for the album. It's golds. 👌🏼

Just downloaded the album from iTunes. I was determined I was gonna hate this album. I thought my fave musician had lost his mind. Turns out Ryan knows what he's doing, as usual, blowing my mind! I'm flashing back to the first time I listened to Heartbreaker and Gold and falling in love all over again.
