What I really love about this album is that it's not done as a joke. It's a weirdly perfect match.
+Michael Sollien Exactly!
I agree completely Michael!
Yes weirdly perfect. Well said.
Exactly!!! Perfect words! It’s an anthem of appreciation
Genius. I dont even like the original. He coverd it as if he was writing it hiimself, in his true style.
First 5 seconds, I started singing "hey little girl is your daddy home, did he go and leave you all alone"
YES!! All I see in my head is a black and white Springsteen video lol.
so true!
+GARY J I started thinking "Johnny Cash".
So glad I wasn't the only one thinking this!! SO reminiscent. Wonder if he meant it as an homage to The Boss?
Oh my god same
Only Ryan Adams can turn #1 Pop singles into heartbreak songs.
Kings of Leon could totally make this song their bitch though 😘
Ryan also took Wonderwall and made it a dark heartbreaking tune. Even Noel Gallagher said it was better than his version and he wrote it.
That's what a cover is supposed to be. Thank you Ryan, you figured what the few did.
Sounds like it could be on Springsteen's Nebraska album.
I know Ryan didn't make this album to bring attention to himself (he doesn't need it anyway), but I hope it does bring mainstream pop listeners (which there is nothing wrong with them) to his style of music and his music. This is a big deal in music history: Ryan Adams being one of the best songwriters of all time, if you don't agree the tell Elton John that because he thinks so. And Taylor Swift being one of the biggest pop stars of this time. I hope this cover album brings people together from different styles of music and we have another great cover album like this again.
+Hoota Reboota Shellback, Max Martin, Taylor & a few others wrote 1989. It was a collaboratively written album.
+Hoota Reboota They're "collaboration" is nice to see, that's all i'm saying, this cover album breaks molds.
+Wish Light (NOVA) I believe that is why he made the record in the first place! Well done.
he made it for money.
Pop fegs wont always appreciate this. Most likely those who enjoy indie, classic or country.
He's interpreting the melancholy "will to survive" aspect underlying the upbeat, poppy sentiment Taylor portrays in her recording-- I appreciate the willingness to explore the full dimensions of the lyrical content conveyed by the "Springsteenesque" version Ryan has so thoughtfully produced. I can't help but think the full expression of Taylor's sensibilities are expanded by this rendition.
Halfway through the album and I'm still just losing my shit.
+The Great Expectations Yes. If anyone needs proof of Taylor Swift's songwriting gift, they need to check out Ryan Adams' versions of her compositions.
NR Davis These reimagined songs don't attribute anything to Taylor Swift's talent (or lack of it, in my opinion.) However, they do show that Ryan Adams has an exceptional gift for making covers sound a billion times better than the originals.
I feel like this cover album was made so that I can still listen to taylor swift when I'm in a mellow mood
Ryan Adams is one of the most original composers of our modern rock times. Mozart played Bach, Keith Richards plays Chuck Berry, and Ryan Plays Taylor. This is what music is all about. Another excellent musical collection from Ryan!
I had this album for years before I realized one song was a Taylor Swift cover and then I realized the WHOLE ALBUM IS!! I literally had no idea. Ryan Adams is one of my all-time favorites and Taylor Swift is REALLY starting to grow on me.
That last *Baby I'm just gonna shake*
The way it swings from rage to resignation. The weight of hard-learned lessons tilting it toward the latter. Who knew you could give a pop song pathos. This is such a brilliant interpretation.
This version is so good! One of my all time favorite songs
What I like most about this is that it took a light hearted pop song and made it hauntingly sad. You get two completely different messages from the same song lyrics. I don't really consider myself a fan of Ryan Adams or Taylor Swift, but wow this is impressive.
"I think today I'll make a tribute album to Bruce Springsteen, The Smiths, and Taylor Swift at the same time." Who does that? Genius.
+Reverend Felcher i couldn't agree more.
+Reverend Felcher Amen, reverend
Ikr!
hipters..
How about making one for Johnny Cash?
I hear a lot of Bruce Springsteen 'On Fire' in this. He is totally legitimizing Taylor Swift and her writing abilities.
+Adam Tesch He's been doing that with different genres of music for a long time. He played a cover of a Back Street Boys song back in 2000-2001. The crowd was laughing thinking he was ridiculing the song, but he went on to say that it is a really well written song and thats why he was covering it. He has done covers of Alice In Chains, Iron Maiden, Ratt, Bryan Adams etc etc They all sound amazing.
Julia Gibson Have you heard him do AIC's Nutshell? If you havent, look it up on here. Live from Seattle late '14. It's amazing.
+bossnfrank Glad he got over his problem with Bryan Adams. I read somewhere that a while ago someone kept shouting "Summer Of 69!" at one of Ryan's shows and he got really pissed.
Def been hearin the Springsteen vibe throughout all these covers
+Adam Tesch I don't think anyone has to "legitimize" Taylor Swift.
I don't even like Taylor Swift but I've been excited about this for months
+Hoota Reboota lmao that made me lol.
its sad ppl just 'dont like taylor swift' cause her songs are pop and they need another person to cover her songs to realize her lyrics are amazing and shes a musical genius. oh well.
+wendyl0v3 No, I'm just a big fan of Ryan Adams and I was interested to hear his take on this album because I like his style and it's a pretty funny novelty. And if you think Taylor Swift is a musical genius who writes amazing lyrics you are clearly missing out.
+Jake Tupitza This is not a novelty album. Ryan respects Taylor and sees her as the songwriter of her generation which she is.
Jake Tupitza same.
okay.....this is pretty remarkable.....shows how pretty damn great Ryan AND Taylor both are....it really does sound like Bruce's "I'm on Fire"
how the hell Ryan did THIS??? SHAKE IT OFF is a HAPPY SONG and he masterfully turned it into THIS mellow song. AWESOME. JUST. AWE.SOME.
Ryan Adams is the first artist who made me fall in love with a Taylor Swift song.
And the Taylor Swift song I hated the most, Bad Blood, was the best cover of this album.
Ryan Adams, thank you.
my thoughts exactly!!!!
+Raul Torres I feel the same !!!! Bad blood is super annoying and silly in TS version and like ultra sensitive and amazing in Adam's cover. I've seen her talk about this cover album and I think she's genuinely embarrassed at how good her songs can be when she's not singing them.
I think as you ❤
Revital Shapira exactly!
Revital Shapira LMAO
Jesus christ this is amazing, the build up at then end is goosebump worthy almost sounds like Nebraska era Springsteen, WOW
I am loving the design, typography, colour, look and feel of these Ryan Adams video thumbnails.
perspicaciouscritic agreed dude. That serif font is fire.
Sublime translation of an already wonderful album. Just gorgeous !
I am not so familiar with Ryan Adams but being a Taylor fan, I gave this album a chance. So far, it's really great. For Taylor, it captivates her songwriting and how it's so good, it can be applied to other genres or sounds. For Ryan, it brings another feeling. Taylor is really great with emotion in her song but a lot of them sound so "playful", he makes it sound so vulnerable in the best way.
it's so cute that you give Taylor the sole writing credit
Who would have thought a Taylor Swift pop song could sound like a Springsteen song.
+itsadelight So much Springsteen.
+itsadelight i didn't expect this interpretation, milking 3 chords for all their worth.
+milowent what interpretation?
+itsadelight It's the rim shots that does it.
+itsadelight Ryan Adams, apparently ;)
wow he just surprises me every time!!! I've actually tried to guess how he might turn shake it off into his style and failed. this is wonderful!!!
Brilliant ! When an artist does a cover and it is virtually a new song, you know the artist has got skill
This is gold.
+Jose Cruz no......that was an album a few years back....
+greatleapforwards LoL!!! One of my fave albums.
This guy, and the war on drugs is some of the best music I've heard for a long time
HE IS THE BEST.
Totally in love with this. It sounds like a TOTALLY different album. Not ONE note is the same..and I'm in love.
Nebraska era Bruce covers Taylor Swift
+Larry Guerriero I was thinking the same thing!!!
+Larry Guerriero I was reminded of "I'm on Fire" by Springsteen.
+3000EJS I agree but I'm on Fire features on "B in the USA"
+Alain Auffret Yeah but wasn't born in the USA the next album after Nebraska?
No. Ryan Adams. Bruce really?
Super talented artist with prolific creative output in the last year. I NEED MORE.
this is sp beautiful. it almost made me cry because of the nostalgic feeling it gives
Ryan Adams deserves a billion views.
I got chills from this one.
Man how on earth do you rearrange and rethink a song in such a manner that the end result is nothing like the original yet moves you to the f core and makes you think this is what probably should have been in the first place. Jesus Christ, goosebumps
This is one of those songs you just roll the windows down and cruise to after a long shitty day, and you need to collect your thoughts.
Very romantic & with so much feeling! Kudos to Ryan Adams
This track is brilliant.
Wow~~~Ryan Adams is one of the best artists of our times for sure.
I can't believe this is getting crushed on the itunes reviews, it's brilliant.
Ryan Adams has wrote some great tracks, but he puts his own spin on other peoples songs really well... this album is full of great stuff , testament to both artists.....
I love Ryan Hope he makes a big comeback soon
Its too bad but many here don't get it. Music is so much more than an opportunity to slam Taylor Swift or give props to Ryan Adams for being cool. Both versions of this song are valuable contributions, both Taylor and Ryan put their unique talents and personalities into and they both really don't care what destructive critics say here. Music has the potential to build bridges and heal broken souls. For some here, its too late.
Juno Dog so true. well said.
But let's be honest, one of them has far more artistic control than the other allowing them to make music which suits themselves rather than cow down to industry executives and having to worry about appeasing a certain demographic of consumer which would suck the life out of anything. If you're not aware of this then you are naive about the mainstream music industry and it's sole purpose now of promoting brands like Apple and Coke. .
Juno Dog - I agree with your statement except for the end, where you talk about it being too late. I’m sure there’s truth in that, but we don’t know for sure.,”It Ain’t Over Until The Fat Lady Sings.”
Juno Dog - I love Ryan Adams. It was his 1989 that drew me to Taylor’s original 1989. They’re both great. I often enjoy listening to one of them singing a song, followed by the other singing the same song. Both incredible.
I hate this song with all my heart but Ryan made it sound so good, what a legend
+justsomeone Hahah same! Soooo much better
same!
Why would you hate this song? Usually the only reason you would hate a song is because of its lyrics... which stayed the same in this version. Or I’m sorry if you’re one of those people who hate a song for its publicity
@@c.shadou1897 It could be the more laid back, spaced out feel of the song vs. the hectic pace of the Swift original...Some of ol' R.A. fans are getting old. lol. And salty.
@@CrustyWhiteBread Or you know, some people just prefer more mellow music.
Ryan Adams is one hell of a great musician, and this proves how fuckin creative he is ! genius ! thank you Ryan for your incredible creativity .
There's a reason why Ryan is "badaass".....he's interpretation of '89 is why he will always, in my opinion, be badass!!!!
Such a talent boy. Love you Ryan for this amazing cover.
This is phenomenal.
More cowbell, please.
+Joshua Kinser Best comment ever. Hahaha.
No cowbell sorry....
+Joshua Kinser Ha ha ha. Yes!!!!
there isn't any cowbell?
+xvaughanx Indeed, there's not a single cowbell in this song, I think they mean the rimshots (or how someone in another comment called it: sidesticking)
Love this version, brought this song to a new life.
Probably my favorite song, atm. For realz, Ryan.
is it a lesson in music lyrics and music can be interpertred in different ways !! love Ryan he does anything wants !!;;
Always brings me in the right mood, the nostalgic mood...thanks Ryan, brilliant and powerfull...
Genius!
Pure Quality
So much good!!! THIS IS GOLD!
Brilliant! Just fargin brilliant!
AMAZING. #MicDROP
+stacyvlogs STACY
+Joslyn Davis amazingly terrible!
+J Pep It is really bad. Ryan Adams has done far better. Sounds like he phoned it in. And it's not because I don't appreciate indie rock either. This just stinks.
love this cover.... brilliant
I feel like Ryan Adams makes those people who can't admit that they love Taylor Swift's song, said out loud that they actually love her songs.
i love ryan adams, since his whiskeytown days. he is definitely going to gain a few more fans from this cover album. just awesome =)
OMG this is amazing
Masterpiece!!!
Such an amazing concept...
milky chance and ryan adams killed this❤
How could a dance pop lively pop song be converted into a depressing sad or whatever song! I love this, you're a great artists! Swifties approved!
This is pure genius
NIIIIIIIIIICLLLLLLLY DONE
R A shows the world the depth of T's songs.
this is the deepest layer oF T's mind: some kind of awful despair, an abyss of
longing that will never be filled
TS is a genius and R A is her prophet!!!!!!
love u both....
these versions of taylors songs sound totally different. I cannot even recognize them anymore.
yeah totally feels brand new
They're different, but in the best way possible
God, I love him
Amazing song !!!!
by far the world's hardest working musician! unbelievable stuff
+Daniel Mahony Your right.
Best cover of the decade by far Ryan!
This is amazing.
Ryan Adams is my new favorite artist. #AdamsFAMILYforever
His cover record is beyond beautiful, sort of hard to capture my appreciation for his renditions in words. I didn't necessarily dislike this song, but it was my least favorite from Taylor's original album, however, Ryan truly transformed it!
Stunning
this is actually pretty friggin great
FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING. CAPS ARE NEEDED GREAT JOB RYAN. :)
Just loved it.
wow this is amazing
" PURE MAGIC"!!!!!
RYAN, YOU THE BEST!
This....is actually really good.
no matter how this song is interpreted, covers /versions made ...you can't help but dance ....
This is amazing Mr. Adams
can't breath well, AWESOME
This is spectacular.
Looking at the comments, I'm glad I'm not the only one who started singing "I'm on Fire" at the start.
I love Ryan's sound a lot, but when I hear a Taylor Swift song and I hear him sing it so softly.... I just want to yell the lyrics so bad.
top cover!!!!!!!!!
Oh my God. Like, I can't even. This is Taylor Swift's song embodied into a modern Bruce Springsteen. Ugg. Lovely.
Fantastic!!!!!
Its perfect!
I really like it. He made it! Gosh, he made it!
I really like this version! ! so much love 💞💟💝💘👍💖
This is fantastic! Well done!
This is genius.
