Woodturning - The Wedding Goblet

  • In this video I make a wedding goblet from a piece of Oak Burl and epoxy resin coloured with mica powder ..
I was added to a challenge on Instagram by James Carter @stitchinturn.james to make a goblet for Rebecca Degroot's upcoming wedding. It's a tradition for woodturners to give goblets with 2 captive rings for a present and James thought it would be cool if they received some from a bunch of other makers ..

I used to do a LOT of woodworking when I was younger, everything from cabinetry to furniture. As my life has gone on, I have gotten away from things like that. Thank you for posting your videos and reminding me of why I used to love it so much. Time to clear out part of the garage and get my tools out from under the layers of dust.

Andy...... You are amazing. This goblet is gorgeous and I'm sure it will become a family heirloom for all future weddings in that family. We love your videos.
My husband, now 82, was a journeyman carpenter. Created beautiful cabinet &' china hutches. He had massive stroke at 57. He was very disabled and lost the ability to use his hands . Has suffered declining health and strokes since. He loves to watch your Wood turning videos. They bring him joy and a tear once in a while. He bores easily with TV' and his attention span is short. Your wonderful short videos give him that " something" that takes him back to the days he created beautiful things and his beloved woodworking. I can't thank you enough for helping him through each day with your little offerings of hope and happy moments for him.. God bless you.. from Don's wife and caregiver. ⚘🙏⚘

He should spin a tabletop for that and make it into a large, motorized “lazy Susan.” That way the last half a minute it could be slowly spinning around showing the item and we would get to see all sides clearly before the boxes popped up with more videos at the end....

Love the goblet, absolutely elegant! It's such a pity no one really makes stuff like this anymore, the other day I saw goblets at the bookstore and not realising I was speaking out loud said, 'Why don't they sell this sort of stuff at home stores? My kitchen is entirely full of old fashioned kitchen wear!' And then the guy next to me just looked up, stared at me for a second, and just walked away.
