Woodturning - Oak Mushroom Burl to Bowl

  • In this video I turn a Natural Edge Bowl from a large mushroom shaped Oak burl .. I wanted to keep its original shape and character as much as possible , which meant a difficult out of balance turning but I think the hard work was worth it, as it's a stunning piece of wood and I feel lucky I managed not to wreck it !!
I finished the bowl with osmo wood wax clear ..

Log-date 4/5/2020: Watched fifty-two hours worth of UA-cam wood turning; so far, this end result is my favorite. Next UA-cam binge watch: How about them poached eggs? I’m not sure if it’s about how to steal eggs or cook eggs, but I must move on to the next assignment. God speed; be safe!

My uncle was a woodworker and I loved to visit his workshop. He handmade a table and a staircase for one of the local Masonic halls. They were beautiful. He Also worked with our local museam helping to restore antique furniture. His grandson followed him in the trade.

Here is a challenge for all the wood turning artists out there. Take scraps of a hardwood tree, preferably oak, and refine the wood so that it resembles a tree without bark. All that’s left would be the beautiful wood in all its wonderfully grained glory.

This. Although some resin pieces can be really lovely when used to accentuate an otherwise unturnable piece of wood, I feel like there are so many youtube turners that think dumping a few litres of coloured resin on some junk wood makes a piece of art. Heavily overdone at the moment.
