Woodturning - Oak Mushroom Burl to Bowl
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 жов 2019
- In this video I turn a Natural Edge Bowl from a large mushroom shaped Oak burl .. I wanted to keep its original shape and character as much as possible , which meant a difficult out of balance turning but I think the hard work was worth it, as it's a stunning piece of wood and I feel lucky I managed not to wreck it !!
I finished the bowl with osmo wood wax clear ..

Log-date 4/5/2020: Watched fifty-two hours worth of UA-cam wood turning; so far, this end result is my favorite. Next UA-cam binge watch: How about them poached eggs? I’m not sure if it’s about how to steal eggs or cook eggs, but I must move on to the next assignment. God speed; be safe!
No music, no talking, just an artisan at work with his tools. Love it.
That turning sound is music too... 😍
No over acting as well. I hate it when people try to put on some fake persona to draw in more views.

Might not have music music , but the first chisel kinda sounds like a Model A John Deere :D
KhaanMan66 that would be jimmy fallon
I find your videos very relaxing with just the sound of you working your project, not loads of talking, plus the finished items are always awesome this one is no exception, such beautiful grain on that wood. I just love the live edge finish beautiful piece
Uncovering what the Creator has made is always satisfying!
Totally agree! All for our enjoyment. So much beauty surrounds us. Beautiful gifts from our Creator.👍
So much beauty
Proof positive that beauty resides within. I had zero expectations of just how beautiful this piece would be. Well done sir.
Another fantastic job of making such a beautiful bowl Andy. I just love to watch you make things out of more or less trash wood.
My uncle was a woodworker and I loved to visit his workshop. He handmade a table and a staircase for one of the local Masonic halls. They were beautiful. He Also worked with our local museam helping to restore antique furniture. His grandson followed him in the trade.
Andy! From an ugly old carbuncle from the side of a tree you have made what I think is your most beautiful creation yet!
This is so relaxing to watch. My granpa used to make these by hand way back when. I have one of the bowls he made and it's just so cool looking.
This really looked like one of the more difficult ones to do that I've watched. And during quarantine.... I've watched this stuff ALOT
It was !!
That came out amazing. The shape, the color, the bark. Simply beautiful!
Thank you
Excellent use of a unique burl.
We cut down two hundred year old oaks this month and harvested multiple burl sections. Now I’m waiting on the “experts” to work their magic.
This is an astonishing piece of art, you are an artist. The natural edge is the most creative thing I've seen.
So many beautiful things come from the earth that people pass by every day unnoticed.... This is a masterpiece!
Just gorgeous. I think this is one of my top 3 of your pieces. It's so simple, the wood grain is STUNNING. I absolutely love this. Thank you for sharing!!
What a FABULOUS bowl!!! That ugly knuckle of wood is so PROUD of what it has become. You are indeed a wonderful artist.
What a dangerous turn. Kept waiting for finger to go flying everywhere. Beautiful talent.
Let's be honest, all of us are here instead of doing the productive stuff we thought we'd be doing during the quarantine.
So true
Not me, hah hah. Just got the insulation done on my new shop...looking for inspiration for my first project when the new lathe comes in 3 weeks....yeayyyy! Sorry but my own shop has been a dream for 10 years now so I had to brag.
Coronavirus log he made💀💀💀
@@graysonbourdeau5534 LOL,Exactly what I am gonna say
Fucking true
That piece gave the lathe a workout. You are quite the visionary. PLEASE keep the vids coming.
Wow! I am sitting here watching you and not paying any attention to LivePD. I love LivePD. I'm so amazed at how you take a piece of wood and make it into something so beautiful. I wish I had that talent. I'm a huge fan. Great piece.
Am I the only one who gets more satisfied by playing his videos in 2x speed?
Yep
I thought I was the only one!😮
Great skills, he understands the wood, the lathe and the tools. Skills built up over many years. What a wonderful end product,
This bowl would grace any home. Poor mans shack to Buckingham Palace. AND MY HOME AS WELL.
THANKS ..... GREAT VIDIO. Eddy
Turning an ugly looking tree scar into a thing of beauty , awesome craftsmanship. Being able to see the potential of beauty even better !
Poetry in motion!! Absolutely brilliant!
It is so nice to watch you.
You really love what you do...not everyone has that luxury. Thanks for sharing. 🌷
Glad you didn't fill the holes with ugly blue plastic like most people do on youtube! Natural wood is so beautiful!
Good job
I have been in a nursing home for a week. I have watched several of your videos and this is the one that finally made me subscribe and click the Bell notification. I have my own channel and I hope you get back to the same day. Keep up the good work.
Watching these videos are very therapeutic. Thanks
Love that bowl, the grain of the burl is amazing.
Seeing all this, I'm honestly considering wood turning as a hobby when I get older
Mee too :)
akshay sheriff don't wait, unless you're not tall enough to reach the lathe yet.
I’ve been saying this since I graduated college. Wood turning and woodworking. Custom specialty furniture with artistry.
I just turned 18 lmao. I'm gonna wait until I move out so that I can buy the machinery and stuff. I don't wanna bother my parents with all this. Plus, I'd feel much better if I paid for the stuff with my own money.
Wow!! I love that you left the natural edge and the way that the light colored wood looked golden on the inside of the bowl. Simply stunning!!
You are The Wood Whisperer. Everything you make, without exception, is gorgeous and honors the integrity of the original piece of wood. This bowl is especially lovely and restrained.
Shit...I gotta start saving money now that I have seen your Etsy shop!
I can’t tell what’s more satisfying him shaving the wood or the noise it makes when he dose🤔
I really love these videos one day just popped up in my recommendations and boom fell in love thanks UA-cam.
I'm on my grandpa's account by the way lol

You have a good eye to see beyond the surface. Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
From shroom...
To heirloom....TM 😎
Excellent work as always Andy. Always a pleasure to watch your work.
That grain is fascinating. I could stare at that for hours.
Beautiful wood, beautiful bowl, Andy. You definitely made the most out of a piece of wood with such an unusual shape.
Super happy that you haven’t broke a hand working with stuff like this. Knock on wood.
one of the nicest burl bowls i've seen..
It certainly seemed like you didn't have mushroom at the start as it spun and wobbled around but you sure made enough mushroom to create this piece, Brilliant, good work andy cheers m8. 👍.
I enjoyed seeing the process, and seeing the interesting visual of the result. It is a work of art.
I have to be honest, I can't wait to see what you make every time. My hat is off to you good sir for the patience and methodical ways that you practice.
I like that we see plants with tumours and say I'm gonna turn that into art.
outstanding piece Andy, beautiful work, I love the burl pattern of oak the most. thanks for sharing.
Unique piece! It would look terrific on the shelf with my collection. Keep them coming.
That grain is mesmerizing! Such a beautiful bowl.
Thank you 👍
Man, I bet that piece gave off a lovely aroma. I don't miss cutting, nor sanding oak.
Good video, as always!
My birthday is coming up, I might have to get one of your masterpieces as a present to myself.
Get a lathe instead!
Oh I have one, I just haven't unlocked God Mode yet like Mr. Phillip.
Breathtaking!
Reminds me of my wheel throwing days in college.
How far could you throw it then?

Woooa! What a beautiful and organic piece! Congratulations
Absolutely magnificent. So beautiful . Thank you 😊
Breathtaking! Your ability to bring to life what you see is amazing.
The machine: **vigorously shakes**
This man: eh
Here is a challenge for all the wood turning artists out there. Take scraps of a hardwood tree, preferably oak, and refine the wood so that it resembles a tree without bark. All that’s left would be the beautiful wood in all its wonderfully grained glory.
Is that possible?
I love these you tube vids, so inspiring!
Your filmmaking choices are equal to your artistic. Well done AP.
Thankyou 👍
Thats a beautiful piece Andy. The finish really brings out the intricate detail in the grain of the burl. Lovely work.
the whole turning machine shook with that one and I made me so nervous 😅
The day you found that piece of wood was your lucky day! It was there already you just carved it out. It's very beautiful.
I am 4 mins in and totally in love with this beautiful burl
I feel like you might’ve been able to make more than one piece with that huge burl, but that wood looks so dense that that would’ve been near impossible. Awesome work buddy!!!
What a beautiful testament to the life of a tree. You made it live again.
Really enjoy watching these. Particularly as there is no music and you can hear the noise of the turning. ☺️
Just too good! The contrast with the rough edges makes it all so dramatic! Nice! Love it.
Давление не мерила, но пульс у меня после просмотра 120! Захватывающе! Красиво! Спасибо!
Me- *Didn't realize he started fast forwarding* Damn that thing is really spinning.... oh.
lol
x2 speed
if only I could make your dumb quests go x2 as fast
Go check on the settlement yourself
I love watching Andy unwrap the beauty in a piece of wood.
Пересматриваю все ваши работы на досуге! Восхищению нет предела!!! Залипательное видео)))
I was expecting to see this giant burl fly through the back wall. Glad it never did. I would be terrified to stand in front of that. Great work
Люблю природу !
Как всегда на высшем классе !))
The transformations are startling! Something considered at first to be unsightly turned into something beautiful.
Thank you for not spoiling it with colored resin. Very, very nice.
This. Although some resin pieces can be really lovely when used to accentuate an otherwise unturnable piece of wood, I feel like there are so many youtube turners that think dumping a few litres of coloured resin on some junk wood makes a piece of art. Heavily overdone at the moment.
I keep wondering what my hands would look like if I did this work! Yours are beautiful!
Like how you take these ugly mushroom looking infested types of wood and make them into something beautiful! Great job.
I do believe you like a challenge. Not something useful at the local watering hole, but certainly a beautiful dining room table centerpiece. Fantastic!!
LOL ..Thanks
I think this is my favorite of your pieces that I've seen. I love your segmented chaos items, but the natural beauty of this is amazing. Wonderful job bringing out the beauty.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ! And most beautiful . . . a truly gifted artist.
this is such an art form, wow,
I love watching your videos. Beautiful work!
Nailed it again! Love the ripples in the wood.
This has made me want to buy a lathe, love your royal mail tray drawers 😂 use them for allsorts
I really, really need this bowl.
Wow what a beautiful and busy piece of wood .
I love the creative turning u did
Outstanding craftsmanship sir.
Beautiful work.
Nice job.
I would have never guessed there was something good inside. I also surprised that you were able to turn it with such big voids. You did a real nice job. I am not brave enough to try something like that.
I've got my safety glasses and shield, my breather mask, my air filter system is going.
I have a rough gouge in my hand, my gloves are on and I'm ready. I wish I had a lathe.
Lol 🤘
You are truly an artist!!!! Thanks for sharing 😻
Absolutely amazingly stunning PIECE, never seen a mushroom Oak burl
Witam i pozdrawiam!!Super wytoczona patera,może służyć na owoce,wysoki kunszt rzemieślnicy i duża dokładność,Prima wykonanie.Tak trzymać..
"Hey Jim..got any bowls"?
Jim: Sure do!!
"WTH is that"? "My cereal ain't gonna fit in that".
Yep!
just have a whole box of cereal in one sitting with this thing
That has to be one of your best pieces yet Andy. How you create such stunning art from old bits of wood is amazing.
When your hand is steadier than the turning lathe... Andy just rides the wave.
The gift of giving shop teachers a freakin heart-attack. 😂
LOL
Дружище, тебе что не дай, ты из всего сделаешь шедевр!
Деревяха шикарная,результат тоже!
1:35 I straight up thought it was gonna fly off for a second
Okay, this is my favorite of your work that I've seen so far. Incredible.
It would make a beautiful breadbasket. I love that you left a natural edge to it. Simply stunning. Thank you for sharing. 👍
This is a beautiful turn . But, I can't see it holding much chili. Lol.
Probably meant as a decorative bowl.
Everyone: Oh My Gawd, Did You See How That Lathe Was Bouncing All Around In His Shop?! he's gonna kill everyone on the Northern Hemisphere I Tell Y'all!!
Me: Na it's Andy Philip, it's just business as usual...
- and a beautiful job as always Sir. 😊🤙🤙🤙
Freaks me out when he first puts that tool to it and it starts going chunk...chunk...chunk...lol
I've seen enough of his work to know that he knows what he's doing and is perfectly safe, but damned if something that out of balance at the beginning doesn't scare the crap out of me, too!
I'm not a woodturner only just discovered your channel 3 videos ago (this morning). But this one looks like it requires a lot more skill. I'm not minimizing the skill shown heretofore. It is all amazing. And beautiful.
I would have freaked out if I walked into the shop and seen the whole lathe wobbling around like that.... thats just way too scary to see... You are a brave man Andy
