Definitely good to check with the airlines however, I have never had my personal item weighed. I would say if they consider your neck pillow a personal item, then lay it on the top of your personal item bag. It does not have to be zipped up as long as it’s in the bag, you’re fine.😊
The budget European airlines even refuse bum bags (think the people in the states call these fanny packs) and count those as a personal item. They don’t tend to weigh personal bag but the size is strict. So if this neck tube is on top and it is outside the size guide then it won’t be permitted. Cabin bag size and weight is strict. I recently bought a new cabin bag to the exact spec but found it weighed 3kg of my 10kg allowance. But, I have to say, compression bags are an absolute necessity.
I’ve had my tiny carryon bag weighed. Over here in Europe even small fanny bags are considered a personal item. I hide mine under a jacket or big scarf.

You’re very welcome. I’m so glad that you like those side-by-side. Videos. I have done other videos where I show all a lot of different. Looks using Accessories and I think I link them in the description.😊
This is a great idea. I'm glad you never had it questioned. I got one but have not used it yet. Canadian airlines are usually more persnickety than US ones (they wouldn't let me bring my CPAP as a separate item last time I flew, even though medical devices are supposed to be allowed), so I don't know if Air Canada would allow it. I'm with you on the scarf, I always bring a larger and smaller one. One thing I have a large collection of is filmy translucent wraps/tops that fit over a tank top. I can fit an extra tank (a different colour than my base layer on the flight) and 4-5 translucent tops in a liquids bag. There's a company called "Mocs and More" which sells two different styles - they all feature art by various First Nations artists, and a portion of every sale goes to fund youth programs on reserves, so I love to support them. I have always worn several layers on the plane, but I have learned from you how to make those layers 'count' and mix and match better, so thank you for that. Your videos are always filled with such practical, down to earth advice!
So I looked into that CPAP thing and because of a medical device, they have to allow you to bring it on the plane. It’s something they could get sued for if they lost it and ended up with a medical problem. David has a CPAP and he has never been told to bring it on the plane.😊
@@TheoryofSimple I know that is true in the US. It is supposed to be the case in Canada too, but we only have two full airlines, and they mostly divvy up the routes so there is no competition. Air Canada, in particular, has an appalling track record for damaging custom wheelchairs and other medical devices beyond repair. It truly is a horrific situation for anyone needing medical help in Canada. The airlines ignore the rules with impunity. They have far deeper pockets for lawyers than anyone who has tried to sue them.
What country and what airline was that? Also, you can put it in your personal item bag.. It does not have to be zipped shut so as long as it’s in your bag, they will allow it.😊
I’ve been on two flights recently that both announced during boarding that neck pillows count as a personal item so they better fit in your bag. Unfortunately products like this are what’s causing the airlines to crack down.
Well, you can always put it in your personal item bag. it does not need to be zipped clothes so as long as it’s in your bag, you can get to your seat and then take it out😊
Very fine Merino will not make you itch. The itch factor is caused by the cut end of wool fibres actually stabbing your skin. Coarse wool does this, but fine Merino fibres aren’t stiff enough to be able to poke into you, they just bend away. I know this because this city girl married an Australian grazier and spent decades breeding and raising the best fine-wool Merinos.
@@missmayflower like I said the video everyone’s different. But I do urge people to try because I have tried some of the best Merino wool in the world like Smartwool and things like that and I can’t wear them, but this is one brand I can wear, but you have to do what’s best for you.😊
@@missmayflower Actually I have ultra sensitive skin, I can’t tolerate any clothing labels or anything else even remotely scratchy. I have no trouble with wool as long as it is in the top quality 19-21 micron class. I wonder if you unknowingly bought just an overpriced medium grade. What happens with some manufacturers is they mix a some cheap coarser wool in with quality wool to save a buck. The overall hand feel of the mix is OK, but it can’t pass the wear test.
So many great tips ! I've been obtaining so many black/white stripes lately that my hubby calls me the "Hamburglar". Merino wool for the win ~ SONshine for Mothers Day sweet Eunice !
You can ALSO take your insulin and/or medications in an additional separate bag. That medical bag can be a small backpack or duffel and it can contain a few non-medical items. Same with a CPAP machine. I carry BOTH of these bags with me and they are not considered as part of the personal bag allotment.
Yes, that is correct correct! Any medical device or prescription medication is allowed to be carried on separately and does not count as your personal carry-on. Of course, you have to be able to open the bag and show for inspection if required.😊
@@TheoryofSimple Yep. It has to have the medical device or the medications in the bag and they must be quite visible. But what's great is that you can use a larger bag and stuff the bottom with socks or t-shirts or whatever. "I am just protecting my CPAP machine with padding!"
I am considering packing my medications (in a lightweight packingbag), glucose meter w/strips, and smart watch charger in a small, zippered totebag. However, I heard someone say medicine had to be in a clear bag. Is this true? Should I try to fit all my medical supplies in my personal item bag. I will be traveling with a rollator walker also.
@@jacquelyns9709 medication should be in a clear bag. I don’t think the glucose monitor and the test strips have to be to be on the safe side always put everything in a clear quart size bag. That way you can’t go wrong.😊
I used the tube, but a soft, fuzzy version last trip. I flew from a hot climate to a cold one. I was able to stuff my 3 way coat in it. If they had disallowed it, I could’ve worn my coat.
Yes, that’s perfect for Coats and jackets on the colder seasons! I had that gray fuzzy one, and I couldn’t believe that it broke the first time I used it😳
I have to have a neck pillow not only because I always sleep on flights, but because I need it to sleep in the hotels. I have it snapped onto and hanging off my personal item bag, but I've never had it questioned. If they questioned it, I'd put it on and say it's part of my clothing. 😂
I know that Southwest Airlines will allow you to bring it on as long as you have it on. I think some of the airline rules are changing and considering it an extra personal item so just check with each airline😊
@TheoryofSimple I've flown with it with Southwest many times, most recently last November with no issues. Flew with AA earlier this month with no issues either.
@@catwomanva I flew recently, and one gate agent questioned what it was because it was around the handle of my luggage but once I told her was a neck pillow, she allowed me to take it on board. 😊
@@catwomanva Someone on another video mentioned to get one of those neck braces (like if you're rear-ended in a car accident). It's pretty much a neck pillow, but how would they know if you really had an injury or not?! 😂
Well, my motto is if it’s good you gotta share it and if it’s bad, you got a spare! I love sharing the things that work for me and hopefully will help someone else and if I believe in something I think it’s worth selling😊
I had also seen on the news that airlines are now charging as carry ons for blankets and pillows. I did buy one and was able to use in Nov 2023 to help bring back items from Ireland. But it's now my understanding airlines are charging, even it it is a real pillowcushion inside the cover.
Yes, some airlines are charging and some counting at his personal carry-on however, Southwest Airlines currently is still not charging or counting at his personal carry-on especially if you’re already wearing it when you board the plane😊💕
Yes! You could stuff it with your Turkish towel and if they told you for some reason, you couldn’t bring it on just throw the towel around your neck and say it’s a scarf😊
@@kittykathy9532 I use it all the time however there are certain airlines that are now counting this as a personal item so you may want to proceed by having it either around your neck or hooked onto your personal item, but leave some room in your personal item to stuff it in there. This is why I wear vest on most of my travel adventures so if there’s things that I can either take them out and put it in pockets or I will take a travel towel and put it in that neck pillow and tell me I can’t bring it. I’ll take out a scarf and then the neck pillow.😊
I love your videos. I'm not a big fan of neck pillows, but I love the idea of stuffing it with extra clothes and using it for a pillow next to the window. I also heard an announcement when I last flew that neck pillows were considered a personal item. Question: how did you turn the extra large scarf into a blouse under your dress? Very cute. I'm the worst with tying scarfs.
Thank you so much! If the airline does tell you, it’s considered a personal item you can set it on the top of your personal item bag. It does not have to be zipped close so as long as it’s in a bag, it will be able to get on board.😊 tying the scarf I’ll have to do a video on some of my scarf tricks😊
A money belt is a different story because it’s considered like a purse. I have been flying with this neck pillow, and I have never been asked to do anything with it.😊
@@TheoryofSimple If it's a belt and on your body, it shouldn't count! Same with my wallet on a string. It looks like a purse to them just because of the strap, but it barely holds a phone and credit cards. This is ridiculous. In fact, I once complained to Delta and got a gift card as an apology.
Thank you so much and that is so sweet of you to say💕 I truly appreciate your feedback and wanted to let you know that I love making these videos for you😊
Some of us can't wear sandals for health reasons. However, we can buy "barefoot" shoes. I bought several pairs from Hike. They are water resistant, washable, have a wide toe box, and faily light. And they arrived with their own zippered pouch. They are easy to put on and take off. If necessary, you can run in them.
Yes, there are several makers of barefoot shoes out there and the shoes are sometimes multifunctional so you can use them day tripping as well as being in the water! I think I’m gonna do a whole video just on travel shoes💕😊
Yes PLEASE do a video on travel shoes! I’m trying to find nice black ballet style *foldable* flats (that I can put into my evening purse/wear on the plane) that are not too expensive! Also a good pair of watershoes for beach/river hikes.
My travel buddy was so jealous of my merino travel wardrobe. Manufacturers do not include extended sizes. Sounds like they're missing a market/revenue.
You know you have a great point there! And the fact that some of these things do run small so I’m usually buying a size up! I’ll see if I can research and find some good merino wool extended sizes😊💕
Note: US and international airlines have meanwhile started to count necktube/pillow as a personal item - they are aware of this hack. So, check restrictions with airline bc in the last few weeks there are so many new restrictions with cabin luggage.
But merino wool is nothing like the wool most are thinking of. It is amazing and is what is always smashed packed in my suitcase when leaving New Zealand. Best wool ever.
Also leider nichts für mich. Viele Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪 leider kann man viele von dir gezeigten Dinge nicht in DE auch nicht über Amazon erhalten.
I tried to use a neck pillow with my clothes stuffed in, but, I was told at the check in counter that this counts as a 3rd bag and I had to give up one of my other bags. Sad, since the clothing in the neck pillow did not fit anywhere.
@@sonjas.8911 yeah a lot of airlines are cracking down on this now that they know people are doing it so one of the things I do now is put a towel in there so if they tell me, I have to check a bag. I’ll take the towel out and say it’s a scarf and then stuff the pillow thing into my personal light and bag.
Before long they will require everyone fly nude! I plan to get a multi pocket jacket and layer on clothes for the flight. Is a scarf considered a personal item?
I did a whole video on travel vest with pockets so if you haven’t watched that, it would be a good video to watch because I review them. Also, a scarf is not considered a personal item as long as you’re wearing it.😊
@@TheoryofSimple Thank you! I will watch that video - I’ve been slowly catching up on your videos - learn something new & relevant with each one, thanks for creating them!
So the larger ring is a ring that a scarf comes on and the smaller one is a hairband. By placing the larger plastic ring on the outside of your dress, you reach up under your dress and you put the hairband around the ring and it creates this little gather that changes the look of your dress.😊
Technically, any purse, Crossbody bag or waist pack is a personal item so if you want to bring that along with something else it’ll have to fit into the bag that you’re going to slide underneath the seat in front of you. For this reason, I generally wear pants and vest with lots of pockets so that I can stuff things in my pockets and not have to worry about caring any sort of Crossbody bag, waste, pack, or sling😊 I did a video a few months ago reviewing some of my so you may want to take a look at that because I’ll discuss the pros and cons of each😊
Great idea! I'm usually pretty good at getting all my important items in the 'personal' item, but like to have a backup plan. I'm interested in the black eyelet top you are wearing, but I don't understand what you mean by, "Short sleeve black eyelet top by Target and linked in video". Is this a QR code I should look for? Is there a timestamp? I'm a bit confused.
It’s actually a ring that a scarf came on and I use a hair tie with it. You basically take the scarf ring and put it on top of your dress or your top and then take the hair ring and wrap it around behind it underneath the ring in your clothing and it creates this circle that gathered. I think I showed how to do another video on my channel or I use a lot of different accessories.😊
@@shirleymancino6809 if you’re watching it from a TV you won’t be able to find it however you’ll have to watch it from a mobile device or computer in order to see the video description and get through the links😊
Well polyester is generally pretty good for resisting wrinkles. However, I do find that it produces odors more quickly. However, it also does wash well and dry quickly.😊
That all depends, some people like wearing a black bra under a white T-shirt because they like the actual look of that showing through, but you can also choose a different color bra if that suits you😊
So that really depends on the backpack because I have a 35 L backpack that would not fit underneath the seat in front of me because it would be too large. However, as long as any bag, whether it’s a backpack or any sort of roller bag or tote is fine as long as it fits underneath the seat in front of you without getting in the way of other travelers😊
Title is misleading and can get travelers into trouble. Not to mention the extra stress added to an already stressful situation. I usually enjoy your videos but the title of this video needs to be more responsible. Otherwise, keep up the great videos!

That's crazy! They must be watching these videos, too, and are on to us!
Southwest was counting neck pillows in Feb.
@@Valzora- I just flew Southwest here two weeks ago and they didn’t say anything to me.
@@TheoryofSimpleI just flew Southwest last month, and neck pillows did not count as a personal item (thankfully)!
I’ve been on two flights recently that both announced during boarding that neck pillows count as a personal item so they better fit in your bag. Unfortunately products like this are what’s causing the airlines to crack down.
Well, you can always put it in your personal item bag. it does not need to be zipped clothes so as long as it’s in your bag, you can get to your seat and then take it out😊
Delta said that last week on a full flight to Orlando.I pack light so I can bring stuff home. I love buying spices and food stuff.
@@TheoryofSimple they also said bags must zip but probably depends on the airline. I was on Southwest.
@@Mudd3315 that’s so funny because I’ve flown Southwest Airlines eight times in the last three months and they’ve never said anything to me.
What does it matter if the neck pillow is stuffed with clothes or foam?
Very fine Merino will not make you itch. The itch factor is caused by the cut end of wool fibres actually stabbing your skin. Coarse wool does this, but fine Merino fibres aren’t stiff enough to be able to poke into you, they just bend away. I know this because this city girl married an Australian grazier and spent decades breeding and raising the best fine-wool Merinos.
Thank you for the explanation! I think fine merino wool is one of the best fabrics ever! 😊
I bought the best and it still itches. Some people have more sensitive skin than you.
Black and white for the win! 🦨🎬🐼
This made me laugh! 😂
love my tube. I use it often when I travel... even if I am not flying!
It really is a great piece to take with you on any type of travel😊
Looking into the benefits of traveling with merino wool. Thanks for the great ideas.
Glad it was helpful!
You are amazing at promoting product.

Fantastic tips, never heard of anything like that. Good hack
Thank you 😊
I had also seen on the news that airlines are now charging as carry ons for blankets and pillows.
You're a genius! Thank you so much for sharing...such great tips!! 🥰
Thank you! Learned the hard way and happy to share! 😊
I bought one a few weeks ago, but have not used it yet. I was going to stuff it with my microfibre and Turkish hammam towels.
Yes! You could stuff it with your Turkish towel and if they told you for some reason, you couldn’t bring it on just throw the towel around your neck and say it’s a scarf😊
I bought one of those, but I have yet to use it. Curious how it would work so this is a timely video for me to see if this is a good purchase.😊
@@TheoryofSimple great ideas as always!🥰
@@TheoryofSimple Yes, please do a scarf video!
Yes a video on your scarf tips would great too please!
The united airlines agent made me put my small money belt into my personal item bag. They are more strict now.
@@dammar117 I agree but I don’t make the rules. 😊

Another fantastic video. I think you’re wonderful. Thank you!
@@sem-w7329 oh I’ve got some great solutions for you and I can’t wait to share them!

My travel buddy was so jealous of my merino travel wardrobe. Manufacturers do not include extended sizes. Sounds like they're missing a market/revenue.

Okaaaay, you're making me think twice about Crocs now. (Can't believe I'm saying that.) 😄
Lol! Me too! I never thought I would wear crocs! But certain styles are pretty versatile😊
Note: US and international airlines have meanwhile started to count necktube/pillow as a personal item - they are aware of this hack. So, check restrictions with airline bc in the last few weeks there are so many new restrictions with cabin luggage.
Yes, and always leave a little room in your personal carry-on to at least lay it in there😊
But merino wool is nothing like the wool most are thinking of. It is amazing and is what is always smashed packed in my suitcase when leaving New Zealand. Best wool ever.

@@charalson3023 thank you so much! I’m so happy you’re getting some great hacks from my videos and always appreciate your feedback😊💕
Anyone know if I’ll get charged for a stuffable neck pillow mainly for lumbar support on DELta
If you can fit it on top of your personal carry-on or in your personal carry-on, they will not charge you extra for it😊
What are the 2 rings that you used to cinch dress, thank you
So the larger ring is a ring that a scarf comes on and the smaller one is a hairband. By placing the larger plastic ring on the outside of your dress, you reach up under your dress and you put the hairband around the ring and it creates this little gather that changes the look of your dress.😊
Do clothing moths like merino wool? I have an issue with clothing moths.
Yes, they will eat your merino. So if you have them, you should put them in some sort of bag that will keep them out.😊
What about that solar light thing on the counter behind you ? What is that called
You have a keen eye! I will have to put that in the video description, but it’s by goal zero😊
So is a purse/crossbody bag THE personal item? Or does it have to fit INSIDE the one carryon?
It is linked at about one minute in the video. It shows as a plus size, but you can go in and choose the size you need.😊
What is the little two piece plastic circle you used on dress? Didn’t see it in links. Thanks!
Oh! Ok thanks!

Do you have any recommendations for where to buy merino wool clothing or which brands to buy?
In the video description, you’ll find links to everything that I’m using in the video. 😊
By wearing multiple layers of clothing, how do you get through TSA scanners? Do you have to remove practically all of the excess layers of clothing?
I personally pop layers on post security. They don’t care if your bag fits the sizers.
You only have to remove a jacket. I have never been asked to remove the other layers. 😊
Yes, 1 personal item is 1 personal item. Carry on and whatever goes in the personal item. You cannot have a neck pillow or a lunch bag
@@bonniegale9028 that depends on the airline. But as you can see in the video, I was able to get that on board with me.😊
Any recommendations for travel fabrics that don’t crease that aren’t wool or silk so vegan friendly? 😊
Well polyester is generally pretty good for resisting wrinkles. However, I do find that it produces odors more quickly. However, it also does wash well and dry quickly.😊
Nylon knit. Less wrinkles,lasts forever.
Bamboo and Tencel are fab.... both soft and generally not as wrinkly as cotton.
One thing that does not go with a white tee shirt, and that is a black bra, like you link to.
That all depends, some people like wearing a black bra under a white T-shirt because they like the actual look of that showing through, but you can also choose a different color bra if that suits you😊
Carry-on bags can and should be no bigger than a backpack. This would be for 2 adults.
I don’t see how this is misleading?
