So you are letting nature speak for itself huh? Just like that epic call of nature walk of you heading to the public restroom. You broke new ground on that one. Your calm demeanor told me it wasn't an emergency situation. Your location was epic. Is that a new camp chair? The lights around the truck were great. I was hoping to see the Solo Stove. Plant based sausage? Uh....no. Was that cave a natural occurrence or was it dug out? I could sense an orifice tightening sensation on the cliff edge in your voice. This was definitely Squatch country. Nice that there weren't too many humans around to spoil it. Too bad your friend didn't take my advice and pack a cold weather clothing bag. Great trip, great video.
I almost did a slow motion on that walk to the crapper. I was trying to show how far it was from our site LOL. Didn’t feel like bringing the solo stove since I knew we were gonna have fire rings. About the same amount of heat output LOL. Yeah new camp chair. The cave is natural. I don’t carry a cold weather bag either. I had long pants but didn’t use them.
Hello THG, I watched the whole video. Those were some really nice spots to visit. I don’t have GPS to mark campsites. I will have to check it out. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
You can mark places and save them in the Google maps app, you can make different lists based on what you are saving too. Thanks for watching as always John
Great video. I'm from West Central Illinois, but I've been to Shawnee numerous times. I've been to all the locations that you visited. If you go back, check out the "Face in the Rock" trail. A buddy and I observed the 2017 solar eclipse from there. I have a short video on my channel if you feel like checking it out.
Going there next week before slamology. I may copy your itinerary for 2 days. Did you have any issues being close to your car? I plan to stay in a tint, but prefer to have my car nearby in case I have to go somewhere
I was born in Illinois and lived in Peotone for 32 years and Peoria for 3 years. Sadly I have never been to Shawnee NF nor ever explored that part of the state. I settled in North Carolina and now 33 years later I plan to come back and do some camping in this area. I still have family in the Peotone area and hoping to get some of them to camp with me in the Shawnee!!
There is still more I want to explore there. I think the next place I want to see in the forest is bell smith springs. That place looks amazing too. Anyway thanks for watching and I hope you get to explore there.
Thanks for this video. I'm going up this way weekend after next and I'm going to refer to ur video a lot. Also, I truck camp too, but I put a tent in the back of my truck.
@@thathikingguy Thanks I appreciate it. I have bad knees so I'm glad u are doing 2 miles or less hikes. 2 miles is about my limit these days. I hope to do a few shorter hikes in the area.
The Indian point trail near the Garden of the Gods is awesome and not too hard on the knees especially if you just hike out to the point and come back the way you came. If you do the whole thing it gets a little harder to do but the big show is when you get out to the point
