Thank you. Doing a video comparison was just what I needed. Your idea of pushing in the old screw socket to make way for the clip saved me a big headache.
Thank you so Much’ you have addressed this problem that as and still is since I started sparking in 1971, but nobody talked about it ‘ dealing with a pre- wired situation nightmare is unbelievable time and wasteful, love the nitty-gritty head on solutions”
another option is drill a hole in the back of the back box inline with the original lug and put a wall plug in the wall and use longer 3.5mm machine screws. This method has saved me on numerous occasions
I used 2 pieces of thin copper wire twisted together placed this in the screw hole then screwed the screw in which has worked well for my plastic back boxes. Though this video is really helpful for if any turn out to be metal as I'm dreading trying to replace the rest of the switches! This PTFE tip seems good also! 3 of my switches so far have worn out threads 😫
Thank you. Yes option 5 will work, you may need to bend the existing metal out of the way, or scrape some of the wall substrate to give enough room for the clip. I use these quite a lot. They're great as a quick repair. Let me know how you get on 👍
I just repaired a back box using a different type, they are a half moon shaped metal strip and the ends are serrated. Worked very well and use a 3.5mm screw.
I just failed with one of these. They look great but the socket was a single. The back of the switch interfered on one side and the earth attachment of the back box on the other. It was a bit frustrating. I kept them because I can see for a double unit they would work.

I have tried that too, you need good plugs though or the M3.5 won't grip well enough.
Yes… you a sparks?
thanks, will try and update the outcome!
Let us know how you get one!
Great video thanks. Helped me to decide on the best option to solve my plug box lug issue.
Brilliant, I'm glad we could help. If you have any questions, please do ask. 💪
I've always found if the thread has gone on the backbox use some PTFE tape on the screw.
That's something I haven't tried 👍

Thank you for the tips
You're very welcome, I assume you have an issue with your metal back boxes? Please let me know how you get on, and which, if any option you choose.
Excellent video. Saved a lot of work taking the recommendation (watch until the end!)

Great video! Do you think option 5 would work for a socket plug?

Useful tips for a poor property developer Sam
Always happy to help 👌
Used to just drill and tap the back of the back box out to 3.5 the either use an extender if a 75mm screw as too short.
Me too, if it was possible... Some of these options are much cleaner and quicker. 🧹
If there's brick immediately behind the box, which there usually is, that can't be done unfortunately
How to get these studs?
Hi, there are links in the description box. 👍
Ye stud kay pe milega
Unfortunately not.
I think the second one requires you drill out the lug
The screws won't physically fit through most accessories anyway, the diameter is too wide.
Your cameraman should zoom in closer
It's a learning process, we'll get to Hollywood standard eventually... Actually probably not with our budget!🤘
👍
Have you tried any of them yourself?
