My dad committed suicide not quite a year ago. I hate myself for not reaching his beautiful self and not appreciating this kind of music (the same kind he was into) until after he died. I wish I could jam with daddy so bad! 😭😭😭 Thank you so much for being you girl!!!

You should check out "I Am The Fire" by Halestorm. It's her coming to the realization that she is more than what she thought. Kind of like her coming out of the other side of darkness to the light and finding her self worth. Great reaction!

Alright Amanda! A Halestorm reaction! And one of my all time favorite songs of theirs. You nailed from the start. It's about being addicted to the drama of a bad relationship but not the person. You don't miss the person but you miss the misery. So glad you did this song. Not a reaction song but listen to Black Vultures by Halestorm. It's one of my motivational fight song during tough times. Hello Amanda, here is a link to a live performance of Lindsey Stirling and Lzzy Hale doing Shatter Me. I think you'll also find the lyrics to Shatter Me to be quite apropos, as Lindsey wrote it about some of her issues she has dealt with.
I love these sort of songs , Alanis Morrisette - You Oughta Know , is in the same category , for a slightly twisted version try Sinead O`Conner - Troy or P.J.Harvey - Rid of Me
I mentioned this song before but another song from Halestorm to check out is Back From The Dead. The video takes place in a hospital morgue. The song is about Lzzy dealing with depression. Pay attention to the lyrics. Back from the dead means coming back from the dark mental place you were in. You're back to being yourself. Very relatable song. Keep fighting the good fight.
I'm so glad i stumble into this reaction. Thank you for your insight and your work. This has been one of my favorite songs for quite a while and i enjoyed your genuine reaction and personal insight into the ideas behind it.
"I Am The Fire" by Halestorm has helped so much with my low self esteem, depression and anxiety. It's a great song both musically speaking and also mental health wise. You should give it a chance! I promise you won't be disappointed ♥
Great reaction. You are spot on with your observations. One additional thing to be considered is when the victim goes from the abused to the abuser. Say for example, she gets away from this toxic relationship, and then in her following relationships she finds that she becomes the abuser. Maybe at first, she preemptively abuses, expecting the worst from the new guy, and after that it become habitual, her having found that she likes to be in charge. She might intentionally flirt at the bar with a guy with the purpose of her guy walking in on them, and the fireworks begin. We have seen her in concert a couple of times, and believe me, no recording or video can capture just how powerful her voice really is. She is just fantastic. Best wishes.
I love your channel Amanda and thanks so much for what you put up. I'm a vet who has PTSD and really really find what you do helpful. Thankyou... love that you reacted to Halestorm also. Cheers from New Zealand
Lzzy is known for her screams, which aren't just screams, she's actually wailing away in her songs. There's a live version of this.... quality not as good but the scream in the beginning she holds for 29 seconds. She collaborates a lot, Amy Lee, The Hu, and my favorite with Eric Church "That Damn Rock and Roll.

I saw Halestorm live in 2019. I was less than 20 ft. from the stage. Oh my God, Lzzy being that close to me, I almost blacked out from the headrush. I couldn't believe how beautiful and powerful she was from up close. I have loved Halestorm since about 2006 or so. Seeing them live was a dream come true for me. I'm not typically into girls with short hair, but I would make an exception for Lzzy any day. When I heard her voice, the same voice that has sung me to sleep before, I was completely overwhelmed by this rush of mental stimulation. I was exactly where I needed to be that night. I felt like, in some ways, I had some form of closure after dealing with years of depression and suicidal thoughts. All those feelings I had been feeling finally broke away, and I was more secure in the eye of the storm. The memories haven't faded, but since then, they haven't hurt quite as bad. I felt like I was more grounded on a strong foundation knowing that I had been able to see someone right in front of me that had been helping me get through so much crap I was going through for years before that. Thank you, Lzzy. I hope to see Halestorm again before they reitre. I need them in my life for however long I live. Keep it metal. \m/

We as humans are addicted to torturing ourselves via drugs and alcohol, internet negativity. We all struggle with wanting to go back relationships we know are bad for us…
This is a great song. She did a great collab with The Hu called "Song of Women." I would highly recommend reacting to it. Fun fact, the Halestorm drummer is her brother.
not in a relationship, but the anxiety cycle you describe seems to be my constant state of life: can't enjoy when things are going well, because I keep waiting for the bad to come. It ALWAYS does, good things don't happen to me without bad things in equal measure come soon after. That seems to be the entire track of my life...

I remember the first time I had this kind of relationship. It took 4 years, the loss of a really good job, and suicide considerations to finally walk away. Again, I said I remember the first time. Halestorm is one of my favorite bands and Lzzy is one of the best vocalists in hard rock. They have quite a few songs about toxic relationships, Heart of Novacaine is another one. But also others that are much more positive, The Silence is one of the best and sweetest love songs in a long time and Break in that she did with Amy Lee is one of the best duets ever. Dear Daughter is another fantastic song. They also have lots of songs about mental health and empowering yourself (I am the fire and Back from the dead are two great ones).
Lzzy Hale is fantastic, she writes most of the songs for her band, Halestorm. Her brother is the drummer. Check out Freak Like Me, Apocalyptic, I Am the Fire. All official videos. Rock On Stay Safe!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I love Halestorm soooooo much. AMAZING band, amazing song....recommend HIGHLY! Most of their music is very upbeat and POWERFUL IMO Lzzy is a very good person to look up to.
You almost directly quoted the end of the chorus for Pain by Three Days Grace (I’d rather feel pain than nothing at all. I wonder if the meaning to this song is similar to Pain, in that, she’d rather feel pain than not feel anything.
As a guy I love this! Being the nice guy I always finish last, too all the assholes she talks about in this song. I have always tried to be “The person you wanted” but I can never be. The toxic person can be fixed, and it didn’t matter what I did. I’m so sorry for anyone that goes through this abuse, cause that’s what it it is, just please take off the blinders, possibly sacrifice your ego of being a “repairman “ and pay attention to what’s in front of you.
Glad to see you do a reaction video to this song it's one of my favorites from them and your analysis was spot on. Also I have a recommendation for another song by halestorm it's called "you call me a bitch like it's a bad thing" it is a banger. Also fun fact lzzy is bisexual and she is open about it and also she does alot for mental health outreach and advocates for it, also lzzy and her brother AreJay started this band when they were in there teens they took piano at first then her brother transitioned to drums and she went on to learn guitar and vocals and the rest as they say is history.
Great reaction. Such a good song too, has so much grit and angst for a song about relationships. Would love to see your reaction to another "relationship" song that's deep, Black by Pearl Jam, if you haven't heard of it yet.
Very nice reaction. Very moving song. Abuse can come from all different directions. I'm a man but couldn't talk about things, it turned into a fight. I didn't want to fight so I shutdown and drank. We are history and life is good. Lizzy is great
Just discovered tour channel! If you're interested in exploring mental health in music, check out anything by Badflower, because... ooof. They are very open.
Lzzy "F'N" Hale is a rock goddess and the only female EVER to be ambassador to Gibson Guitars ......they have a song called "Chemicals" they do an acoustic version and OMFG....it's about the chemicals in our brains and the chemicals we take to try and fix the chemicals in our brains....it's amazing
First like and to comment! 😁 The song is meant to be some what sarcastic after the fact of the relationship to realize to be glad it's over with. Also singer Lzzy has done a duet with Amy Lee of Evanescence called Break In and Beautiful. Great songs.
Based on this video this seems like something you might be interested in digesting... Following on from this in terms of female vocalists in this genre and the topic of toxic relationships, my mind came to Lacey Sturm's "Vanity and Rot". It's technically two songs but they directly lead into each other as if they're one, so I'd recommend the combined lyric video rather than the separated official versions. The first half ("Vanity") is essentially just an argument between her and toxic/abusive bf, and the second half ("Rot") is more like an actual song which ends up with a little more hope. Both parts are necessary to get the full story. ua-cam.com/video/XR34Cho5kPU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ParamoretheMachine Alternative interpretations I've read are that it's actually an internal battle but even that is on the topic of mental health. Another take is that it's a religious dilemma which is less on topic.
You are 100% correct. It's NOT YOUR fault that someone ELSE is an ass. For instance, I'm 6'2" and 220lbs, I was dating a 4'11" 85lb sweet as could be girl. She would BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF ME! because "I know you won't hit me like my ex did". She didn't do it because she was mad, she JUST DID IT, because she knew I wouldn't HIT HER! Years later, I re-connected with my kindergarten girlfriend that had just gone through a divorce. The previous Christmas, her ex threw a cup of coffee on her after she made it for him because it was too this or not enough that... so after having it thrown on her, she made him another cup of coffee... and he threw it on her "just because". So when I began dating her, she TRIED to piss me off and start a fight because THAT was all she'd known for YEARS! Needless to say I said "good luck with that". BUT, MANY DO "Miss the misery, don't miss him at all". And women say "if I could only meet a nice guy". HA!!
i could probably list off like a good 15 female fronted metal bands that are all amazing. but instead i think ill throw a curveball and put 3 in one. "in this moment - we will rock you"
Please react to more Halestorm. Some good songs by them are - Here's to Us Viscous Familiar Taste of Poison Freaked Like Me Mayhem Love Bites (So Do I) Break In (Featuring Amy Lee) I Am The Fire Uncomfortable Back From The Dead
My memory is crap. Have you reacted to Lindsey Stirling yet? She has had Lzzy in some of her songs, most especially one called Shatter Me. If you reacted to that one already, that's where you know Lzzy from. Lzzy has also done a duet with Amy Lee of Evanescence... :)
I would like to see a harder line drawn between consensual BDSM and toxic, abusive relationships. These are different animals altogether. Consent being one of the big differences, but not the only one. In abusive relationships one person is looking for a partnership, while the other is playing immature and harmful games. In a BDSM relationship, the games are discussed and agreed upon beforehand in a sober conversation with no coercion. If someone is incapable of being mature about it, then the other can walk, and should. Too many times people want to equate the two, and they aren't alike. Just my thought. Halestorm is awesome, and I adore Lzzy.
@@MentalAmanda I may be a little touchy. Too many folks in the world who want to shame where shame isn't deserved. I may not participate in every niche thing, I will defend consensual relationships of whatever sort that increases happiness for all involved. Just as a moral stance.
Not only men are ... I am a male and I know women abuse boys and I know the feeling of wanting to be treated bad by girls ... When you are a kid you just trust adults and don't ask questions or tell anyone

Very nice reaction. Very moving song. Abuse can come from all different directions. I'm a man but couldn't talk about things, it turned into a fight. I didn't want to fight so I shutdown and drank. We are history and life is good. Lizzy is great
Since you are using past tense, I hope you're in a better place now!
Mental health is not talked about enough . My best friend and battle buddy killed himself and I tried as well. Ptsd from combat is real
We're here for you if you ever need to talk about your buddies or feelings.
Take a listen to the band papa roach and the song last resort. The lead singers roommate tried to commit suicide.
You may have seen Lizzy Hale doing some sets with Lindsey Stirling. That might be where you know her from.
Look up Larkin Poe: Mad as a Hatter: ua-cam.com/video/dGEjbJkxFhs/v-deo.html
This might not be a popular opinion but it is factual, from my standpoint at any rate, guys fall into this mindset also. Been there done that
Lol Amanda has many talents. I wouldnt be surprised if she can sing like that in the bathroom
look up more of their music. tehy have lots and lots of great songs

Alternative interpretations I've read are that it's actually an internal battle but even that is on the topic of mental health. Another take is that it's a religious dilemma which is less on topic.
Yup dopamine can be a blessing and/or a curse.
"Now that I'm with a normal person everything is boring" is how my divorced self always interpreted this.
I have learned to welcome some "boring!" My soul needed "boring."
I like your critics. It can be both
I know I'm a year late to the comments but one thing I can say is that Three Days Grace said it best. "I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all"
Now it's time to the better part of Halestorm "Love bites (so do I)"💪🏻👌🏻
You need to check out Mesus song Freepression
HA!!
Jinger, Arch Enemy, Unleash the Archers if you want to hear more metal female lead bands.
i could probably list off like a good 15 female fronted metal bands that are all amazing. but instead i think ill throw a curveball and put 3 in one. "in this moment - we will rock you"
lzzy hale is a modern day Janice Joplin with her raw husky vocals

You should react to "The Hardest Part" by The Anchor.
I think the only way you can sing it like that is if you felt it.
Have something special coming up with that song!

I LOVE SP! Have met them 3 times! My son and I are even on their IG here and there. Haha.
@@MentalAmanda was one of the best bands I’ve seen live I lost it when they played scobby doo live was so hype :)
I thought I was clear in separating them, as I very much understand the difference. Thank you for clarifying further for me!
@@MentalAmanda I may be a little touchy. Too many folks in the world who want to shame where shame isn't deserved. I may not participate in every niche thing, I will defend consensual relationships of whatever sort that increases happiness for all involved. Just as a moral stance.
Do "familiar taste of poison"
Then you should try Halestorm I am the fire.
