I've been making a fool of myself in the warpgate, trying to learn skiing/surfing. Then I remembered that there was a Cami video about Icarus jets that I hadn't finished watching. You saved me a lot of pain. Thank you! Bootbag from Connery TR sends his regards.
As drifter LA myself I always thought that Icarus jets were kind of a meme, the horizontal speed or lack of it always made me switch to skirmishers just cause of the balanced horizontal/vertical thrust. I guess this combo won't make me use Icarus jests for vertical traversal either way, but it's good to know that this synergy exists.
I main drifter as well but I might start using Icarus jets a bit more for certain situations. I don't have the directive carbine and can't afford a lot of grenades so these aren't quite as useful for me yet.
I've used Icarus and am a drifter main. Launching vertical is great for 1v1s, but I still like the versatility of drifters. With this Icarus set maxed out, I could respond to incoming sunderers immediately during a base defense. That is exciting.
Playing Icarus jump jets with impulse grenades feels so much like playing Pharah that as a Pharah main, I feel right at home. Then rock up with an NS Tanto and its free kills
Be sure to twist to the side when using these jets, you don't need impulse, you can move horizontally if you jump and jet then twist to the right or left.
DarkFlight was the real Icarus pioneer, way back in 2013 or so. Sadly he hid his videos about two years ago. There are two OG lessons that later Icarus guides do not cover: 1. You can use vehicles to gain MASSIVE horizontal momentum. Turbo + Icarus = jump pad, anywhere 2. You can bounce off steep slopes and angled rocks to gain SUBSTANTIAL horizontal momentum. This is the technique the general public doesn't realize exists, or is strong. If you're up on one roof, you'll often be able to fall down onto a sloped rock (or whatever), bounce off it (start jumpjetting right before you hit it), and have well more than enough horizontal momentum to cross to the next building. Icarus recharges so fast that you can have full fuel before hitting the ground again, letting you chain bounces one after the other. You know how you can bounce down the north face of The Crown? With Icarus, that's something you can do in almost every base. Because almost every base has rocks and/or those guardrails that are notorious for bouncing you (the ones on every triple stack).
Problem here is that for ambusher-like performance, you're limited in underslung and grenade number(and grenades cost nanites which could be a problem if you're c4-ing all the time). 9:23 - KCAP ammo: "Finally! A Worthy Opponent! Our Battle Will Be Legendary!"
While this is true, the underslung can be resupplied with engineer ammo packs which happens more often than not. And it was pretty rare for me to run out of Nanites if I was in the groove. LOL at the KCAP ammo.
@@CBeavr The recommendation is farm and play optimally, or just have fun and accept the wait. If you want to recreate the build, you could use impulse Grenades and C4 very sparingly to defend bases from either sundies or maxes. Having said that, imo investing your certs into other things is better

I was actually trained by Ganidiot in 1 on 1 lessons himself. Then onward we had a rooftop rivalry whenever we were both on. The Church of Icarus thanks you 🙏
I've mained these jets since their release, welcome to the club. Everyone always widely falsely assumes they only go up(without impulse) twisting to the side is the meta! Can go just as far and as fast as Skirmy
@@Direblade11 As you jet, turn to the right/left, goes about as far as Skirmisher and people don't know that. Edit: you'll want to burst the jets too, hold on it for a good one second at a time roughly.
9:45 was a perfect time to scare them by drizzling a few shots at them, followed by an impulse grenade -throwing them over the edge, to their deaths. Impulse grenades are an interesting tool. They don't just yeet you, they yeet enemies too (including other deployables that haven't yet touched the ground).
Also, a carbine with an underbarrel grenade launcher is a perfect way to monetize the anti-vehicle AOE damage multiplier for maximum cert gain. I've killed all manner of vehicles with the underbarrel grenade launcher (including liberators, mid-air while my rocket pods have been emptied.) Underbarrel grenades do a total of 1250 damage per shot, and you get 3.
it's funny that when i've started to play PS2 while ago, maining LA class, i've started with Icarus jets because of things that you've said here: great mobility in CQC fights, especially when you have a lot of space above you. Also it gives that wild possibilities to jump-dive-jump shooting at the floors above you, when enemy doesn't expect that you'll appear again so quickly. Somewhere after 50lvl i've switched to more common Skirmisher jets, but in fact, it affects only your movement capabilities, which is mostly good for Vehicle destruction or positioning. Trying to fight with infantry with Skirmisher jets is a suicide, as you moving to slowly, like a balloon. You know what, perhaps i will get back to Icarus, as this video raised my good memories about them :D
Another thing its good for is Amuteresu knife. Once enemy is setting up their aim for your head you just jump straight up and they have to reaim and now you are raining energy blade waves down upon their head.
After watching this video I tried out the Icarus/pulse nade combo and my god it's amazing. It's like dog fishing in an aircraft, but all your targets are ground bound and slow. Absolute menace to any Tera bound infantry. Then I came across another light assault sporting the same build and it was the funnest light assault duel ever.
I've been running the Icarus with some success with the ammo restock implant + Regen + punisher adaptive barrel. Otherwise I would say safe fall + Regen + grenade bandolier for more impulse is good enough too. When not comfortable with falling, always pick safe fall, you won't ever have to worry about it unless you're falling from an ESF. The punisher with adaptive barrel is always good to have as a secondary.
You should try Lasher+resistance shield with scorpion+assasin and sweeper hud implants on the Vanu heavy assault. I never felt useless as I was always either splashing through doorways and windows with lasher, or pocket orbital striking the enemy camping behind cover, revealing all the enemies on the minimap thanks to the assasin implant.
Just to clarify, the horizontal air braking mechanic does not only apply to high speeds like impulse jumping and jump pads. Whenever you're moving horizontally, you should be facing 90 degrees from your direction of travel. The Icarus jets' horizontal speed is fine when you do this, even without assistance from impulse nades or surfing. I can't even use skirmishers or drifters anymore because they feel too slow, with or without impulse grenades.
but with drifter or skirmisher you can slingshot yourself straight to the next base. I think i even managed to get across 1 hex once (with drifter obviously) but i cant confirm since it was too long ago.
@@bananaboye3759 this video tells me that you definitely are a good light assault player, but to be honest its not a big deal to get cross flat surface like that (love your nade management tho). @@alpha-do7xf Yeah, although drifter jets tend to bleed off velocity faster because you need them to always be on, which makes horizontal air braking worse. There's a reason Icarus is the jumpjet of choice for surfing. I just hopped onto that amp station to test how far I could go off a non-biolab jump pad, but apparently baldur amp doesn't have pads. So I decided to record surfing to the next base, and see how far I could go without using impulse grenades. I only needed them to stay up after traveling around 300m, and that's realistically more than you need to be able to travel nine times out of ten.
NSO have more lattitude loadouts wise with LA , as they can get regeneration implant effect on their suit slot with nanite auto repair , they also can unlock the dreaded newton carbine via directives .

65% of game time is on la on my main account and been playing since release. Icarus to me is a must for urban settings. I typically use them to decrease down time on horizontal travel or to disengage quickly. I've been using them since they came out. I just simply don't like how slow the regular jets are. For a bit now I've tried going back and using the regular jets, but I've been wanting to have them back on my cqc-med kit too. Also, there's actually still a bit of good horizontal movement. However, that's mainly on the side so you kind of have to do a 90 degree turn anytime you want to get some horizontal distance. It's enough to still give a lot of horizontal inertia when slingshotting off of jump pads. One good example is using the jump pads hurakan amp station to sling shot directly to the point of hurakan secure storage.
@@avaliantsoul5408 drifters are actually great for traversing open terrain or zipping from cover to cover on a big base. As it's much faster than sprinting. It's great for a med range kit.
I just want to emphasize - you do not NEED impulse nades to have good horizontal momentumn with icarus. For most of the situations available nearby terrain is more than enough, or even better - just a quick sprint and jump + 90 degrees turn will give you plenty of horizontal momentumn to work with in and near buildings.
Honestly Synergy kits could be worked into the faction and that wouldnt hurt anyone realistically. Maybe a LA has a slippery glide mode between jumps for VS, you cant control travel at all, but if you shoot your gun the recoil impulse becomes reverse movement instead (would be tricky, but fast firing guns producing low recoil will move you less then a slow heavy hitter) and negates recoil significantly while hipfiring (Vertical only)? We have to get a surf sesh now that you have finally decided to join the dark side. great stuff Cami. I would use the handhelds more but they break into my sweet sweet nanites to much. see you surfside broTHERR.
Yeah I play with a few Surf Assault mains and they’ve told me you need the Icarus jets for this. Drifters end up being way slower cuz they kinda cancel the speed from impulse nades.
i got some footage (wanted to make a video right after update but gave up on that one) of me doing test runs (with obstacles and without) with icarus and impulse nades and i have to say that my best result was 600 meter mark (average was 300-400 meters)
I used to use these all the time! Drifter jump jets are my go to choice for hunting down tanks from a high vantage point, but Icarus for flanking, positively.
Drifters though... You even have a catlike drifter build on this channel, it does everything this one does, without running dry mid air. And it relies much less on impulse nades, while still making full use of them when available.
I think I'll use my ASP for the smg secondary I love light assault with impulse nades, drifter/standard, acx11 with grenade launcher and long range setup or another long range gun and minor cloak plus ammo printer to find sniping perches plus lob long distance one hit kill grenades from underbarrel with ammo printer refilling then constantly and minor cloak to take cover and clear spots whenever spotted / be safe and invis when waiting for people to fight like a real inflil using a semi auto sniper from cannopy level.
I've always preferred running the more balanced jetpack, but since the Impulse grenade meta I'm really considering swapping over to that as well. Not that it matters much, I still main a sniper, though these new LAs can get to me way too fast wherever I am. It messes a bit with how I play, but I love a bit of an upset of the meta.
I was playing against an NSO on vanu the other day using them and fighting him felt like I was skeet shooting. Personally, the jets that made me finally realize I love light assault are drifter. I can do so much cheeky stuff including just bumrushing people and having my head ever so slightly above where most people's "click the head" muscle memory is, I live longer and can get away with stuff. I really disliked the regular jump jets, these ones are fun but not for my low skill level, but drifter is where I get away with the most shenanigans Also drifter is how you get that stupid "deal 3000 damage while airborne" part of the daily mission. Drifter + tanto or GR7 /w laser sight and short barrel has truly transformed my opinion on light assault. I still want some kind of mid to long range option for a light assault that isn't a pistol or the crossbow. Just give me a slow firing, moderate damage semi auto or bolt action. Let the Light assault use the longbow, lol.
so basically, even in planetside 2 you can now do rocket jumping. wow. can't wait for the auraxium market gardener to drop. may consider returning to the battlefields then
I feel like tons of vets have turned to this loadout at the exact same time it is pretty funny to watch. Starting to slowly grind out the Newton using this setup
the problem with this is you are using a very limited stock consumable for movement. so if you have 2, then that's 2 jumps and you're stuck. i do see that you're using some sort of under-barrel attachment to make up for the lack of nads, but i don't seem to have access to anything like that.
My max mobility build: * CB-100 (fastest reload time carbine available to NSO, could try PMG-200 or 3XB for even shorter reload, lol) * Suit: Adrenaline Pump (activates immediately, a huge boon compared to Athlete 5's bonus) * Implant 1: Athlete 4 * Implant 2: Springstep 4 * Grenade: Impulse Is it dumb? Yes. Is it fun? Hell yes. Zipping around the map with 10 or 20% (springstep) bonus speed is just bonkers. Shame that no speed bonuses ever stack.
Personally for the suit slot I like to use adrenaline pump since it then adds movement speed which you can use when flying up with icarus jetts instead of the ammo belt since you have a secondary punisher which is arguably one of the best smgs in the game currently.
The adrenaline pump is a great call, definitely something worth considering. As I said though, it's less about the ammo capacity and more about the reload speed buff. In addition, the SMG secondary does have a slower weapon equip time against a standard pistol, so there's some issues there to consider.
I get told so often drifter jets are garbage, yet at lvl 2 I can climb through trees and land on top of their capture point, putting a spawn beacon and single handedly turning the tide Then the regular jets get me half way. And the icarus one 3/4
Looks fun but I stopped playing ages ago. It just always bothered me that I couldn't just full auto my AR's or any weapon to keep accuracy. Having to burst everything made me always just play sniper.
Your Oshur looks different from than console. Oshur on Console is an underdeveloped continent where construction seems to be the focus yet on console, there is no construction. There ares a few good bases but most are just empty field ghost caps.
that something new, interesting. but too expensive if starting from the scratch. ASP LA, NS-66, full Icarus jetpack, ton of impulse grenades + C4 = many certs and nanites...
Funny watching all the LAs start hating Icarus slowly converting one by one. I'll admit I was one originally against ganidiot though I converted the day the punisher came out and have slowly been converting people since. Also hilarious when it was a less common play style people wouldn't be able to figure out what jumpjets you were using when you cross a base in 1 second but then engage using Icarus I got lots of confused tells
I stopped playing the game 2,5 years ago and now that I'm watching this video, I'm realizin in horror that Wrel turned the game into a hybrid of Apex Legends and COD.
Look, with Impulse grenades ( and to an extent Catlike 5 ) the skirmisher jets are truly the Jack of all Trades. Icarus? Impulse boost upwards ( or even just Catlike 5 jump boost ). Ambusher? Impulse boost forwards. Drifter? Chain impulse boosts laterally. Going through your video, I actually don't see what it is you find in the Icarus jets that you couldn't also have done with Skirmishers, but I do see several instances where the limited fuel capacity has caused you to miss landings or fall short of your target. Plus you're heavily reliant on Impulse grenades, where Skirmishers can do without them and make limited use of them when you really need that boost. One of the few advantages you have is a faster rate of ascent when starting your boost from mid-air. You might consider the ability to boost mostly directly towards your target an advantage, but usually flying directly towards a target is a bad idea as it makes YOU an easy target, even if you're moving at great speed. It is generally beneficial to jump off-angle from your target and use the standard lateral movement that you would with the other jets because then it puts that speed advantage to use by moving in a direction that makes it harder for your target to aim at and track you.
(LA Main) been using icarus since I was first able to buy it with certs: 10/10 best jump jets, would leap buildings in a single bound again I've also learned that with some practiced quick pulsing of the jets you can pretty easily clear decent distance gaps with a running start and survive falls through deceleration you might otherwise not be able to come out of (unless I'm just uninformed and the other jets decelerate you just as well)
Yep. These be the best jump jets. Why else play LA than jump on rooftops? There be better ways to kill tanks than being a C4 fairy. Nothing else can jump straight up a wall
I'd ditch Avoidance for Paratrooper. Gives you rank 1 Safe Fall at rank 5, plus allows you to recharge your jets much faster in a fight. Also, Flight Suit is a must.
Disagree personally - Paratrooper only works for you when you take damage, and as a class that feeds on flanking, the idea is to not get shot in every fight, limiting your return on investment. Flight Suit is nice to have, but not a must imo.
Worst jump jets. Just because of that second it takes to land completely. You are hovering at one point simply because it takes longer for "gravity" to change your vertical speed, even though you have almost no horizontal speed. LA becomes the easiest target to shoot
I get that it's MLG pro 420 blaze it to put your FOV to 360 degrees, and I hate telling people how to play their game, but, as a viewer, watching this footage is painful. Seeing something in front of you look like they are 2 miles away and then suddenly 3 inches away as you turn your camera looks silly and makes telling what's going on kind of difficult and unenjoyable. :\

Yeah I play with a few Surf Assault mains and they’ve told me you need the Icarus jets for this. Drifters end up being way slower cuz they kinda cancel the speed from impulse nades.
Yeah exactly, the Horizontal thrust that the drifters have just overrides any gained momentum from the impulses, so its not a great combo there.
This reminds me of playing Tribes series of games; only the skiing is alot more controlled.
That sundy at 2:19 was pretty cinematic.
i got some footage (wanted to make a video right after update but gave up on that one) of me doing test runs (with obstacles and without) with icarus and impulse nades and i have to say that my best result was 600 meter mark (average was 300-400 meters)
I will follow anything this guy said based on the sheer fact he sounds exactly like vision. This man is a god
Title typo: "Planetisde 2 Gameplay". Excellent video though. I also love using impulse + icarus.
did not listen to you back in the time and tried the icarus, and god i love them and am never used the other ones since
Been using only icarus for the longest time, glad you see the light
I've always preferred running the more balanced jetpack, but since the Impulse grenade meta I'm really considering swapping over to that as well.
Not that it matters much, I still main a sniper, though these new LAs can get to me way too fast wherever I am. It messes a bit with how I play, but I love a bit of an upset of the meta.
Ironic that I just watched that Light Assault Guide yesterday, so this video's title really surprised me.
I really disliked the regular jump jets, these ones are fun but not for my low skill level, but drifter is where I get away with the most shenanigans
Also drifter is how you get that stupid "deal 3000 damage while airborne" part of the daily mission.
By all mean I would like to see more build you enjoy playing. Going meta is nice, but having fun is better ^_^
so basically, even in planetside 2 you can now do rocket jumping. wow. can't wait for the auraxium market gardener to drop. may consider returning to the battlefields then
I love the updated loadouts section.
I've been running Icarus since I found them, so often I just jump over an enemy and kill them mid-flight
I used to use those to jump over a wall and drop C4 and grenades on the opponent's heads.
>using Icarus Jets without Safe Fall
I see you like to live dangerously.
I feel like tons of vets have turned to this loadout at the exact same time it is pretty funny to watch. Starting to slowly grind out the Newton using this setup
join us on connery, emerald doo doo
It's been great to see for sure! Cheers for the comment mate, keep up the good work yourself :)
@@Dirigo_h gotta get my bacon sorry
AYEEEEE thats what Ive been using!!!!
Cheers mate!
Do you have tips to do it without having ASP ? I have the Punisher but can't have it as my secondary :/
I'mma have to try this. Prob going to run Safe Fall over Avoidance.
Fair call mate.
the problem with this is you are using a very limited stock consumable for movement. so if you have 2, then that's 2 jumps and you're stuck. i do see that you're using some sort of under-barrel attachment to make up for the lack of nads, but i don't seem to have access to anything like that.
My max mobility build:
* CB-100 (fastest reload time carbine available to NSO, could try PMG-200 or 3XB for even shorter reload, lol)
* Suit: Adrenaline Pump (activates immediately, a huge boon compared to Athlete 5's bonus)
* Implant 1: Athlete 4
* Implant 2: Springstep 4
* Grenade: Impulse
Is it dumb? Yes. Is it fun? Hell yes.
Zipping around the map with 10 or 20% (springstep) bonus speed is just bonkers. Shame that no speed bonuses ever stack.
Great content. I'll give this a try
Ive been using these jets for a while, its nice to see them get a little more attention. Also quick question, what fov do you use cami?
I use an FOV of around 100 mate :) Thanks!
@@CAMIKAZE78 i may try that, been using 90 as of late
with catlike V you'll engage jump even faster
1:04 no kink from gun being fired?
oh man, i am going to download the game... watching you play.. my eye cannot keep up with your speed haaa
i use drifter jumpjets, when crouching you can move like you're running around my target ehile shooting em with my mercenary.
Icarus Jets + Grande Bandolier + Shotgun + ASP Side SMG = I AM BECOME DEATH
Personally for the suit slot I like to use adrenaline pump since it then adds movement speed which you can use when flying up with icarus jetts instead of the ammo belt since you have a secondary punisher which is arguably one of the best smgs in the game currently.
The adrenaline pump is a great call, definitely something worth considering. As I said though, it's less about the ammo capacity and more about the reload speed buff. In addition, the SMG secondary does have a slower weapon equip time against a standard pistol, so there's some issues there to consider.
Good video but let me remind you to look at your calender and to not forget to write important things into the calender.
Have a good one ;)
Thank you kindly bossman ;)
Yes, more loadout vids plz!
I get told so often drifter jets are garbage, yet at lvl 2 I can climb through trees and land on top of their capture point, putting a spawn beacon and single handedly turning the tide
Then the regular jets get me half way. And the icarus one 3/4
flight suit, and perhaps the ns-11
i happen to enjoy it
occasionally LA gets caught stupid
theres a couple guns
Looks fun but I stopped playing ages ago. It just always bothered me that I couldn't just full auto my AR's or any weapon to keep accuracy. Having to burst everything made me always just play sniper.
what nc gun is he using there?
Your Oshur looks different from than console.
Oshur on Console is an underdeveloped continent where construction seems to be the focus yet on console, there is no construction.
There ares a few good bases but most are just empty field ghost caps.
I've always wanted to use the Icarus since I LA main. Seamless use of impulse grenades seems to be the way. Thx.
Anytime mate! Enjoy!
If I did what you did at the intro I woulda been dust immediately cause everyone woulda seen me
Looking at the game play you really could use safe fall
Safefall becomes pretty unnecessary the more disciplined an icarus user gets.
@@lichtanethual7025 I think it would offer more option of attack and escape honestly. As well seeing him drop his shields so often is agonizing. Haha
Anethual is on the money here. The more disciplined you become, you are better off running different stuff.
I know this is a year old, but a link to the other guys you mentioned would have been great.
Huh thought you'd get the grenade bandolier not the ammo belt...
Absolutely I wanna hear about success loadouts. Even if its a farmy cheesy vehicle with a specific HESH settup.
that something new, interesting. but too expensive if starting from the scratch. ASP LA, NS-66, full Icarus jetpack, ton of impulse grenades + C4 = many certs and nanites...
You can juse icarus on its own + cqc carbine just fine
babayoga is the jumpjet lord
Will try it with the Horizon : D
i never used em the ambushers are to fun imo but i will give it a go
Funny watching all the LAs start hating Icarus slowly converting one by one. I'll admit I was one originally against ganidiot though I converted the day the punisher came out and have slowly been converting people since.
Also hilarious when it was a less common play style people wouldn't be able to figure out what jumpjets you were using when you cross a base in 1 second but then engage using Icarus I got lots of confused tells
aaaand there goes my certs...
I stopped playing the game 2,5 years ago and now that I'm watching this video, I'm realizin in horror that Wrel turned the game into a hybrid of Apex Legends and COD.
looks really fun haha
Im a simple man, And PS2 decended into secondary game, so i only complete the daily missions, or at least try.
Maybe I can use this to fix horrendous K/D
It is generally beneficial to jump off-angle from your target and use the standard lateral movement that you would with the other jets because then it puts that speed advantage to use by moving in a direction that makes it harder for your target to aim at and track you.
im from califronia surfs up dude
I know I am being selfish but you can check my playlist to see more of this playstyle.
(LA Main) been using icarus since I was first able to buy it with certs: 10/10 best jump jets, would leap buildings in a single bound again
I've also learned that with some practiced quick pulsing of the jets you can pretty easily clear decent distance gaps with a running start and survive falls through deceleration you might otherwise not be able to come out of (unless I'm just uninformed and the other jets decelerate you just as well)
In my experience, Icarus jets are actually worse at breaking falls than the other jets.
Yep. These be the best jump jets. Why else play LA than jump on rooftops? There be better ways to kill tanks than being a C4 fairy. Nothing else can jump straight up a wall
Drifter + pump
I'd ditch Avoidance for Paratrooper. Gives you rank 1 Safe Fall at rank 5, plus allows you to recharge your jets much faster in a fight. Also, Flight Suit is a must.
Disagree personally - Paratrooper only works for you when you take damage, and as a class that feeds on flanking, the idea is to not get shot in every fight, limiting your return on investment. Flight Suit is nice to have, but not a must imo.
The tridents on ps4 don’t have that slope, wtf💢‼️
welcome to my world ...
I like this more por favor
Aaaaaaaaa you have a typo in your title aaaaaAAAAaaaAAAA
MISTAKES WERE MADE
Worst jump jets.
I alredy hear arguing VS have advantage in this build becouse of VE-C Horizon... Sorry for salty comment.
Fix your connection.
