The Terence Howard thing. There are lots of genius kids who go to college at 12, etc, then you never hear about them again. The difference between them and a Musk is practical application. Lots of smart people who can't put the rubber to the road when the time comes.
I agree, sometimes it can work to their disadvantage. Some really smart kids just coast through highschool because they are just smarter than everyone else, but at some point things catch up to them. Usually first semester of an engineering program at a top school is where these people get flushed out.

Gell-Mann ruined the Terrence Howard interview for me. I work in patent law. Everything Howard said about his “patents” was nonsense. Like, psychopath nonsense. The one patent young Jaime pulled up was not even a patent. It was a “published patent application”. These are NOT patents. And his application went abandoned because his claimed invention was reviewed and rejected and no response was filed to the rejection. In fact, the only thing that happened between the rejection and the official abandonment was his own attorneys formally firing him. 😂

"Thought-terminating cliche" is not a term coined by The Guardian. It's been an informal "logical fallacy" for a long time. The "thought-terminating" aspect of it is their thoughts, and their attempt at stopping your thoughts on the subject. It's not, "a phrase that magically turns your thoughts off", as you seem to think they meant.
I'm not sure why Scott went there with it, when he literally got it almost right after he stopped arguing against the strawman definition of the logical fallacy that he just made up.
