This is a fun series! 1) That Jaden Smith take is spicy AF but YUP! 2) Aqua has undeniable catchy/goofy gems. My kids love watching those videos (and also Kyary Pamyu Pamyu)! 3) That Jay-Z take is ridiculous because he created way more waves (and opportunities for others) than he rode. 4) Kendrick came a long way & deserves the opportunities he's worked so hard for so it would take a lot for me to ever consider him a sellout.
Bro that's the thing for me too. Everything post-The Eminem Show (except for TMMLP2) has been either "eh" or terrible. From a technical and rhyming standpoint imo he's better than ever. Everything else is just meh
I love Eminem but he needs to go back to his old delivery and flow that present from 1997-2001 like on forgot about dre and renegade. He shows glimpses of his old flow on songs like Groundhog Day and Medicine Man but his new album just isn't cutting it. Rant over.
I think it's important for Kendrick to secure all the money he can at this point. He's been a genuine artist for over 10 years, if he wants to start pandering now then duck off and help his community with that money made, go for it.
One of the few rock bands from that era that I still listen to now. They're like the Kendrick of rock, almost every album they'd put out was either amazing or just really solid. I've kinda lost hope that their new album will come out though : (
Ion know,I mean even back in 2017 there was like 7 people who would agree that Jaden was ever slightly better, meanwhile many millions consider Eminem a 🐐
Levi Fridriksson got the same opinion, but he isnt selling out just because of Humble, Love and Loyalty. Also all his albums are connected very smart and he is almost always telling a story and also doing different stuff. Still TPAB ist my favourite album of all time..
I think what you're seeing with Kendrick is not selling out so much, but rather, attempts to distance himself from the "Saviour of Rap / Holier-Than-Thou" image that was thrust upon him after he dropped To Pimp A Butterfly. You see this in his collaborations with T Swift, Future, Rich The Kid. I think its the right move, and prevents him from being boxed in.
Jay Z dumbed it down after Reasonable Doubt But The Blueprint and The Black album were classics I don't think Kendrick selling out, he's just trying to develop a new sound
I love Brockhampton, but I wanted to pull this quote from your argument... "It's not inherently wrong or a bad thing to be obviously inspired by another artist, even if that artist is your contemporary. ok?". I wanted to call this out because you have grilled Logic for his similarities with Kanye, Kendrick, and JCole. This argument may not hold water, but I find it funny how you make exceptions for other artists that you may happen to like a little more.
But he grilled Logic because he thought that Logic kind of made his influences distracting, taking away from the focus of his albums. That's what I'm getting from his review of Everybody, anyway
i feel like the problem with logic is he rarely comes to his own conclusions. brockhampton is obviously inspired, but they have a style that's definitively theirs. i can't really say the same for logic. there's only a handful of brockhampton songs that to me sound just like songs their influences would have made: frank, OF, etc. meanwhile, logic literally can't stop writing songs that sound like tracks his contemporaries have already written.
I wouldn’t care about Kendrick selling out in terms of having shoes or extra editions of his albums. its his features! that I think are making people feel he’s getting too pop. Working with Taylor Swift, maroon5 having way to make features this year. He is at risk of the Lil Wayne problem. Where he puts so much out that people find it watered down. Not in albums but by being on everyone lesses albums.
Absolutely false. If Wayne could've kept putting out mixtape/carter 3 levels of music, no one would've given a shit about his terrible features. Let Kdot keep putting out whatever the fuck he wants, as long as he brings it on HIS albums, he'll continue to be one of the Greats of all time
That is the last straw Anthony. First you gave DAMN a 7 now you're telling that you changed your mind and gave it a 10?! which one is it?!! Make up your mind u melon...... unsubbed
Why is selling out hated on. It’s like no shit they are going to make as much money as possible when they are popular. As long as they still make good music, who cares
Think about it this way: artists kinda need to sell out sometimes, and when they do, they have the ability to hire more high end, quality producers and other things they'll need for something amazing if they want to make something amazing.
Too Skinny yeah we can all HOPE that Astroworld redeems him but given the release of butterfly effect / green and purple / a man I’m not holding my breath for anything as great as rodeo
It's hard to argue that kendrick sold out, the only evidence so far has been the damn collectors digital edition, and that could be argued that it was more of a label move than an artist move.
Weaver Beats i agree i feel like it was interscope’s idea
6 років тому+1
Weaver Beats he's talking about Kendrick's features not his own songs. Bad Blood by Taylor Swift was specifically mentioned. There's been a few other trash features in pop songs. Too tired to think of them all tho.
I wouldn't consider System of a Down nu metal. Sure, they have some nu metal songs on their first and second album, but overall it's more of just alternative metal and progressive metal. I think people consider them nu metal because they kind of started around the time it was popular.
i hate the term "selling out", like Kendrick coulda put out anything and it woulda sold well after the acclaim and success of his last albums. DAMN. is not a sellout album. its just not nearly as good as TPAB or GKMC
sophie fonfec trap, nu metal, disco, all are some of the biggest epidemics. They can be good and bad. Epidemic tends to mean that the bad will be pronounced far more than in other genres.
