I think what you're seeing with Kendrick is not selling out so much, but rather, attempts to distance himself from the "Saviour of Rap / Holier-Than-Thou" image that was thrust upon him after he dropped To Pimp A Butterfly. You see this in his collaborations with T Swift, Future, Rich The Kid. I think its the right move, and prevents him from being boxed in.

i feel like the problem with logic is he rarely comes to his own conclusions. brockhampton is obviously inspired, but they have a style that's definitively theirs. i can't really say the same for logic. there's only a handful of brockhampton songs that to me sound just like songs their influences would have made: frank, OF, etc. meanwhile, logic literally can't stop writing songs that sound like tracks his contemporaries have already written.

I wouldn't consider System of a Down nu metal. Sure, they have some nu metal songs on their first and second album, but overall it's more of just alternative metal and progressive metal. I think people consider them nu metal because they kind of started around the time it was popular.

"Kendrick is selling out" Well duh, he's making pop music. It's mostly not art/experimental and definitely not traditional/folk music, so it's gotta be pop (I like this division of music). The point of pop music is to reach out to the most people and that sometimes means getting rid of your integrity or artistic expression, which I don't think Kendrick is doing as much. And you can still make good music "selling out", it's just not that common.
