Thank you BOSS, for being the giant you are in music history, thank you Lee, for this awesome channel, thank you Pete for your brilliant playing and for being such a great entertainer.
Hi! Was just wondering if you can have multiple reverbs on? And can you change the order of the effects for example reverb before distortion etc. I havent found any of these ”cheaper” multi fx that can actually do that? /Your neighbourhood Shoegazer😊
I’m a simple man. I see BOSS, and I know it’s a quality product. If I didn’t have access to the BOSS Tone Studio for my Katana, this would be a unit I’d seriously consider. Goes to show how great the Katana line is.
Gotta say, with all the touch-screens and multi-million sub-menus that most units have now a days, its refreshing to see such an "analog" unit. Love it
It’s nice to have the choice of either or analog with knobs or digital touchscreen, At affordable low prices and sound great professional (if you know what you’re doing when editing parameters and not overdoing everything so it’s a messy wash of noise and doesn’t sound natural), less is more in my experience. As guitarists and recording musicians/producers nowadays we have a huge variety of excellent sounding affordable gear at our fingertips , and the choice to go whatever route that suits everyones individual preference.
@@pizzaisgood4877but thats exactly my point. If you need all the digitalness of it, just connect it to your phone or computer and you have all the power you could possibly want from the tone central app thing. But, after everything is setup the way you like, its refreshing to just have normal knobs to turn and make adjustments on the go, thats what i like about this unit so much
To each his/her own, but I went from a ME-70 to a Headrush MX-5 and became a much more productive and organized player, with a much wider toolkit of sounds. I think touch screens are a huge benefit to easily accessing and managing effects.
Thank you for all of the amazing guitar content over the years. I really rely on these videos after work to relax and get inspired. Thank you so much - Lonely Guitarist in California
When I was starting out playing guitar my guitar teacher had an ME-50. I remember him showing me all the cool effects on it. It was so cool. One year for Xmas, I asked my parents for an Eipihone G400 Faded and my dad being the absolute legend that he is, wanted to go the extra mile and asked the guy in the store for something cool that would be useful and he recommend the ME-50 so my dad did a deal on the G400 and ME-50. I was completely unaware of this at the time. Come Xmas, I knew the G400 was there, but I didn't expect an extra box and couldn't believe he got me an ME-50. I'd never even mentioned one before, it was complete coincidence. 15 or so years later, I still have that G400 and I still have the ME-50 and while my rig consists of a Marshall Plexi, one boost pedal and whatever guitar I plug into it, I still plug in the ME-50 sometimes and have a play with it. I've also used it to plug into two amps at once a few times. Still to this day, it comes in useful and is fun to mess around with.
Still use my ME 70…in fact I’m thinking of using it Tomorrow, going direct into direct box into FOH/Stage Wedges, instead of the shitty sounding Fender Mustang which is the back line stage amp.
Guys, thank you so much for this vid. I've just taken delivery of the ME-90. Just watching your demo has blown me away - and I didn't even plug it in yet! You rock!
I was very impressed with all the effects on this FX machine. If I didn't already have so many pedals I would buy one in a heartbeat. The dollar value is insane for what you get. I think this is another Boss home run.
I have just marathoned on BOSS ME90's this afternoon while preparing a "sambal" from my home grown chillis. I bought n ME90 about 6 months ago and am loving it!!!!! For 300€ it is sooooo cheap. This is the video without doubt of the most fun with the most details. Thanks guys!!!
Like many players, I'm old-school. I gave up on all the digital menus/submenus deep diving years ago. I LOVE that BOSS still offers a pile of knobs. SOLD!
Boss keeps doing their thing. I bought the ME-5 back in the 80-ties and the GP-8 and GP-16, and so on as well as RSP and what not. Boss/Roland just knows their effects and pedals.
Another awesome Anderton’s video! Love how you are genuinely having fun! I’ve been using the 80 for years - def gonna get the 90, albeit almost a year after it came out - Thanks very much! 👍😎❤️
For the price of a couple of pedals or one boutique pedal, you get a lot. One power supply, no patch cables. No menu parameter scrolling. I love it. For the price you can't complain, but there will be those who will.✌️
It's fantastic how on every video I've seen. You describe everything so well so we all know how to use something or what something sounds like or does. Thank you so much guys we all really appreciate it and all your hard work you put into your videos. 😊 thank you all again 🙏 for all your hard work.
Bought an ME50 about 15 years ago. Done 100s of gigs and all that’s ‘gone wrong’ is I’ve lost a couple of knobs. Love how well they build the ME series.
I really dig modelling and multi effects but I find most these units have too many options. I’d rather have 11 decent amps than 111 and I’m the kind of person who is happy with a knob the just says ‘reverb’. I don’t want to worry about parameters like ‘distant reflection hi cut’, or wherever. Well done Boss, you’ve won me over. Now I’d better start saving up for one!
I'm with you. 10 great of each amp/cab/effects is just great and good enough for most folks. I would like the ability to run two parallel rigs stereo and/or a w/d/w mode.
Never owned the ME-80. But nice to see them keep building on this awesome platform. I have been preaching the Boss ME-50 since it came out. I have all kinds of awesome pedals. But I always run them with my ME-50. It never lets me down.
This is mint. I briefly owned the Headrush MX-5 for a 'chuck in a bag' effects pedal, but chinned it off pretty quickly as really wanted to be able to lean down and quickly tweak a tone mid-jam/gig. This would have been the much more ideal solution!
Holy .....! What a great and beautiful sound....Boss is the Boss !! I am a Helix user but my first pedalboard was the ME-80 and now I would love to try this ME-90. I think it'd great for those players who are stucked in the analog world and want more versatility...and start in the new digital world but still using a real amp or a real cab...
Oh man this is so exciting. The ME-80 was my first Big Boy pedalboard, but it's definitely showing its age in terms of capabilities and sounds. This new one sounds awesome and retains all the awesome stuff I loved about my ME-80. I have since moved on to the Helix, but part of me wants to buy one of these to fool around with.
Oh the memories I had an ME-5 in 1989 a year after they came out right until 2011 and it still worked fine. But then I also had a Tascam Porta 1 four track machine both served me well as more of a song writer not a great guitarist lol. Never realized what an outstanding guitarist Pete is so melodic with perfect phrasing! Great unit that ME-90! 👍
I love boss stuff. Had the me50 years ago. Then the me70 and finally had the gt1000. The gtk is an absolutely incredible pedal. I use a quad cortex now, but the feel of the gtk cannot be beat. Great product and a great company.
The one negative for this is that they took the Aux input away and replaced it with the (not included) Bluetooth dongle which costs around £49 extra. The aux was a simple cheap way to jam along with the Boss ME-80.
Made my day! I just sold my Headrush Gigboard to go back to my ME-70. It’s just so easy and sounds great in my amp. But it needed an update! Been holding off the ME-80, hoping for an FX loop. Update: Got my ME-90. The Modulation, Delays and tracking blow the ME-70 out of the water. The hidden Auto-Wah is top notch and AC Sim are top notch as well. The latter is one of the best I’ve used. Live, I’ll use an EQ and Compressor before the unit to open up the Comp section.
Sounds tremendous - I had an ME-70 about 15 years ago and loved it. Went over to the ME-25 as I was travelling and it was fine, but this seems to be top drawer in this price range. Great video, thanks!
I’d been thinking about grabbing a Line 6 Pod Go as a backup/fly rig, but this may just tick all those boxes without the menu diving. There’s something comforting about the old school Boss multi effects.
I agree, I just got back into playing six months ago. Played for three months when I was 16 back in 1996. My brothers friend sold me his squire and Marshall DSL15 (I think 15? It had the same amount of dials as the new DSL20's) for $300 all in cables included. The first pedal I bought was a Boss FX69 Grunge pedal (gen-1) for like $140 brand new. Of course everyone was chasing that Nirvana tone. But, picking up the guitar recently again and I'm playing an olympic pearl Fender player plus SSS Strat and a Yamaha THR10II. I'm thinking of getting a Marshall DSL tube amp again because started playing in a 3/pc 90's punk-grunge jam band and I need to be able to cut through the drummer and this pedal makes sense to me. I'm sure the newer more expensive Multi/FX pedals can do more but for where I'm at this makes more sense, especially for around $350 and you don't need to be a computer sound engineer to shape a tone. I do love the THRII though.... I'm glad I bought it but also having a looper would be huge for me at this price
Best of luck whichever way you go but my experience with the pod go was a lot of fiddling, knob turning, auditioning IR’s, menu diving, and never quite getting it where I wanted.
I’ve been collecting pedals since the 90’s. This unit with a couple of rare personal favorites in the effects loop would be most convenient for gigs if you like BOSS sounds. Light weight and like having a multi switcher with the pedals built in. Put a real wah in front.
There's something so refreshing and appealing about the surface level simplicity. I hate menu diving. Not sure if I'll ever get one, but it's definitely bookmarked.
I’ve had the me-80 for years but kind of buried it away in favor of pedals. Flash forward to about two weeks ago when I was cleaning up my apartment I found it so I decided to try it out and hook it up to my Spark mini. This time I actually sat down and read the manual and really got to know it. Now I love it, sounds mint through Spark mini. Then I just found out that the ME-90 came out last year with the flagship AIRD. I’m not sure what it stands for but from what I read it’s really awesome and way better COSM, whatever that stands for. So long story short it’s arriving on Monday can’t wait.
AIRD means "Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics " and COSM means "Composite Object Sound Modeling". AIRD is more realistic and organic sounding. It uses higher-quality impulse responses, which better replicate the complex behavior of real amps and speaker cabinets. COSM relied more on algorithmic modeling, which could sometimes sound artificial or less dynamic. AIRD captures the nuances of how an amp interacts with a guitar in real life, including the way the amp responds to picking dynamics, volume knob changes, and the touch sensitivity of playing.
@ I’m getting to know my new machine. So far so good. The cleans sound great but the high gain stuff is not as good. Then again I’m playing through a spark mini, so I guess I shouldn’t expect miracles. It also says that if your playing through an amp you put that switch in the back to amp, but I find it makes it sound muffled, so I keep it in the line out position. Is that because of my amp. Does the spark even have a preamp. I could never wrap my head around all this technology and crap.
This is the most fun I’ve seen the two of you have in a while on video! I have the ME80, but I still might get the ME90. I think the amp simulation is better, the sounds are a little clearer, and I can’t wait to try the shimmer delay. Thanks for your expert review, and of course, Pete’s incredible inspirational playing. Time to go practice…
Dad has an ME-80 and it’s great. Boss has made quality, affordable products for years now. This thing sounds great, and at that price I don’t see myself saying away from buying it. Lol Great content as always, lads!
I have one. None of the patches are perfect but all are good to pretty damn good. The number of possibilities is practically endless. I play in alot of cramped orchestra pits. I need a big pallette and also economy of space. Couldn't ask for a better tool. I also teach. For intermediate students who are still exploring, multi/FX like this can be an economical alternative to buying lots of pedals and managing that mess of cable and boxes until they know what they want. In my own band the only pedal I use is a flanger set deep and slow...barely there. Geez, what great playeng! Great review too. Cheers!
I had the Boss ME-10 back in the day. Loved that unit. I'm a crap guitarist but it could make you sound far better than you were. And now I see this because someone I know mentioned getting one and I think... should I try it again? 😆
I have had this unit for a couple of months now, gigged with it for about 10 shows. The preamp settings are not my favourite - feels a little too compressed, therefore, I use the 4-cable method to the clean channel on my Fender Super Sonic 22. This works amazing and very compact cuz stage room can be a challenge. I use bluetooth on my phone to bring up the proper bank unless you can remember where everything is...I can't. This is great unit for all the cover songs we perform from the 70's to 90's.
I’ve had an ME50 then (when that died) an ME70, which I’m still using. These units are bulletproof, and so intuitive to use. What more could you want indeed!
This sounds absolutely beyond amazing. Thanks for the demo. It looks a bit complicated for me though. Buttons, knobs, dials and flashing lights galore.
I still think that is easier to use than something with a screen and a million menus. It seems pretty organized and to the point, like having the different types of effects grouped together with their control knobs.
That's only what a regular pedalboard would look like. In fact, it would look even more intimidating. Not to mention the alternatives (the multi fx with screens) look even more confusing/intimidating, at least to me.
Great video...just bought mine...be on my porch tomorrow...2 other vids convinced me of potential enuff to buy..yours was a huge leap to actually get to brass tacks of it.. Great chops and extemely versatile axe sir..😊
I have one, and I'm thinking I'm probably going to sell it for this. Road-tested construction, all the features I want and then some. I think the only thing I wouldn't be able to edit without a PC is the fx loop placement for four cable method, but I bought the bluetooth dongle so I could do something on my phone in a pinch.
@@rockr8840 I agree, but this has all the GX features I want in a tactile interface that I prefer. Plus, it appears more durable and yet still only requires the boss 9v adapter compared to the larger and more complex adapter of the GX. If I drove an hour to a gig and forgot my adapter at home, I'd be in big trouble. With this, I could use batteries or just borrow one.
I have the GT-1 and the GX-100. I prefer the sound of the GT-1. I'm thinking of selling my GX-100 as well. I think the ME-90 would fit my needs better if I wanted to "upgrade" from the GT-1.
@@ludblight The GT-1 has a bigger processor, right? Is there something you can name about the sound difference between the two units, or is it the more abstract touchy-feely adjectives we all struggle with at times when describing tone? :)
my opinion is a cropped version of the gt-1000, but the effects with effects control are brought to the panel for the convenience of working on stage, the sound is the same, but the possibilities are slightly less than in the gt-1000
In the beginning of '90s I had a Boss BE-5 multieffect pedal board, the only thing that made my old Marshall Lead 30 sounds pretty decently... 🙂 This pedalboard has the same philosophy, simple and direct, and the great quality of Boss effects.
Thats pretty smart, looks like they've thrown a lot of the Katana effects into a floor unit (maybe missing a trick and re-branding it a little to "Katana Floor"?!). These are really just good solutions for people - let you have access to a bunch of effects you otherwise, as Lee alludes to, need to spend a bunch of cash on trying.
Boss keep quiet about the Katana technology, but after a few minutes of wading through the interweb it seems that it uses COSM, so the ME-90's AIRD actually improves on it!
@@digitalchris6681boss has said since day one that katana uses tube logic modelling tech like their flagship waza amp and top of the line blues cube amps. Not sure why the myth persist till today that Katana uses COSM. The katana is practically a budget waza amp with tons of effects. Anyone who has played boss pedals with cosm knows that the katana sounded superior.
What else do you need? A few chorus, phaser, flanger, delay/looper, and other pedals. The Boss runs the amps, and fine tunes the weirdness you made with the pedals. Why have limits? Try putting an Empress Zoia on the effects loop and see what happens.
I really appreciate how thorough this demo was. I had an me-80 so I get the concept of the 90. But my biggest question was, HOW DOES IT SOUND? And you guys went through every single amp, drive, mod, and expression pedal function. That’s what I wanted to see! Thanks guys. And killer playing by Pete as always!
Over last weekend, I built myself a pedalboard that really goes above and beyond anything available commercially. And I'd spent less than $140 on materials, so I was feeling really good about myself. However, I realized at that point that I'd spent over $3000 on my effects and still have room for about 5-6 more pedals. I'm actually really dumb.
Collecting pedals is fun. I have over 30 Boss pedals, including the 40th Anniversary 3 pedal boxed set (OD-1, PH-1, SP-1), that cost me about $700, but I just love Boss pedals and it was way cheaper than buying vintage ones seperately. I wish they would do a Waza Slow Gear. I also wish I had grabbed a TB-2 Tone Bender when they came out, people are selling them for more than double what they sold for new 🤦♂️
Arigato, Pete and Lee! Some superb playing as always.
Cheers Boss People!! Great job on the ME-90 👏👏👏

I’m thinking of doing the same! This thing sounds great
Best of luck whichever way you go but my experience with the pod go was a lot of fiddling, knob turning, auditioning IR’s, menu diving, and never quite getting it where I wanted.
I’ve been collecting pedals since the 90’s. This unit with a couple of rare personal favorites in the effects loop would be most convenient for gigs if you like BOSS sounds. Light weight and like having a multi switcher with the pedals built in. Put a real wah in front.
The one thing that is a bit underwhelming is the reverb, The delay block is like a DD8 but the reverb is just one knob.
When Pete said “doesn’t phase me” @22:56 I started rolling 🤣🤣🤣
That’s impressive, I’ve always liked these units because it’s so easy to adjust
Looks like a great grab and go to the Pub solution. Small enough to fit in a carry on.
Still use an ME70. Works flawlessly .Does everything I need.
Me likes this " direct access knobs" approach to a multi-FX ... great sounds at a reasonable price too 👍👍👍
THEY PUT IN A EFFECTS LOOP ❤️
I just picked up the me 80 4 weeks Go love it! Getting a great classic metal sound. I see an upgrade in a couple of years..
Finally something without a screen & menus. Well done Boss.
ME-80 ..... no menus also.
EVERY SINGLE UA-cam creator got these but .... Boss is boss hands down and you two went thru that demo EXACTLY like i would have at the shop/booth
Dad has an ME-80 and it’s great. Boss has made quality, affordable products for years now.
This thing sounds great, and at that price I don’t see myself saying away from buying it. Lol
Great content as always, lads!
Finally an update from Boss 😭it’s so beautiful 🥰
Love all the videos guys.
So nice to hear and see everything with your entertaining ways.
I was planning to buy this AND a small audio interface for some home-made recordings, but if this thing works as one it's deffinitely perfect
Cheers!
great demo as always, thank you! I also like the demo from Alex Hutchings, he's an amazing player!
The upgrade of the ME-80, my previous favorite of Boss' multi-fx pedal systems. But I am happy enough with my Katana 50 Mark II.
I saw Vieux Farke Toure two months ago and he was using a ME-80 into a JC120 and nothing else. He sounded fantastic.
Boss ME 90 and a 1x12 combo amp with a Vintage 30 or Creamback is literally all I'll ever need.
Can't forget how refreshing it feels to hear Pete play
BOSS have raised the bar with this multi-fx at this price (and a much higher price!). I am very, very impressed.
I can't wait to get my me 90 should be here on Sunday,! Great demo guys!
I was planning on getting a GX-100, but now… This is definitely an option. Fully loaded effects, tuner, and expression pedal…Wow!
If I were you I would keep GX 100.. its a very good unit..
Thank you for every video🫶🏻
What an excellent product and such a reasonable price too
I have the Me50 and gigged all over the world with it, amazing quality. Im sure this is the same
I've still got a Digitech GNX4. Still enjoy playing and recording with it.
Me 2
Just received my Boss ME-90 courtesy of everyone's favourite Andertons Music Store. Let the fun begin turning all the multitude of knobs 🎛... 🙂 🎸🎸🎸
my opinion is a cropped version of the gt-1000, but the effects with effects control are brought to the panel for the convenience of working on stage, the sound is the same, but the possibilities are slightly less than in the gt-1000
Pete just casually staring into my soul and all my previous lives at 3:18
You're welcome :)
Absolutely great and engaging video. Awesome phrasing and runs. I accidentally watched the whole video!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 I own the ME 80
In the beginning of '90s I had a Boss BE-5 multieffect pedal board, the only thing that made my old Marshall Lead 30 sounds pretty decently... 🙂
This pedalboard has the same philosophy, simple and direct, and the great quality of Boss effects.
Still have my BE-5 👍
You guys are cool. Thank you for the consistent content!
12:00 You can use Slow Gear with overdrive to make a convincing cello tone. 🎻🎶🎵🤤
I loved my ME-8B... the synth stuff was excellent.
Watched the video. Ordered one. The video worked.
😂👍
I still got my old Boss ME70 and it works fine. Great Pedal !
Love my ME-80 , it will soon have ME-90 brother.
Yes... they have fixed the O/Ds , added FX loop and fixed speaker emulator... Nice
Hooray for knobs ! 😜👌
Not every single though! They politely avoided the looper function!!! 😂
So is there a way where you can run say a tube screamer into a Distortion on the same patch please. Or is it just the single pedals? ❤️🎸
Nah, you can only use one of each effects at a time. There is an FX2 section that you can double certain things but not 2 different distortions.
@@jaovaothe looper was used in the intro and outro...
Yes you are
@@Mr.Freeman..It depends on what your goals are.
Don't be so hard on yourself collecting pedals is fun and can offer more unique sound but I opted for the ME-80
Collecting pedals is fun. I also wish I had grabbed a TB-2 Tone Bender when they came out, people are selling them for more than double what they sold for new 🤦♂️
@@scramblesthedeathdealer Yeah I'm a BOSS man
