It's cool to see what Blizz does with a more flexible design space. Removing restrictive classic cards leads to more variety in the long run. Variety you pay for, of course, making Hearthstone a game that is more and more difficult to F2P.
In this video, there are four commons, four rares, three epics, three legendaries. I guess the expansion's rarities are better balanced than I thought, with even FTP players getting good cards :D

Secret Passage reminds me of Ancestral Recall from mtg, a card so broken it was banned and restricted in almost every format. It’s considered one of the power 9 (the 9 most powerful cards ever printed) and that card was draw 3 cards for 1 mana. Secret passage draws 5 cards for 1 mana....
I think an additional bonus of Secret Passage is that any Combo cards drawn are immediately activated (looking at you Eviscerate, Scimitar and Cold Blood)

I think a better comparison is Memory Jar, which like Secret Passage draws you a new hand for the turn. Except that Jar costs 5 mana (roughly equivalent to 7 or 8 in hearthstone, though you can play it and activate it a turn later) and you don't keep any extra cards drawn. Jar is banned in legacy and restricted in vintage, the two most powerful formats in MTG, making it just a step down from the power 9. I agree that Secret Passage is going to be incredibly strong. It's a super cheap wheel that doesn't even lose you your original hand.
If people are losing their minds over Secret Passage, how are people not freaking about Glide as much if not more? It draws you one less, but it can force your opponent to "discard" up to 6! That is absolutely devastating for control and combo decks. AND it has the flexibility of Outcast, meaning that it's still perfectly playable in the aggro mirror where you don't want your opponent to draw.
Andy Spendlove I think glide is strong but nowhere as strong as secret passage first off its 3 more mana and you need to outcast it to get the disruption benefit and sometimes you don’t even want to outcast it in certain situations

For some reason I see Reaper's Scythe's spellburst being wasted a lot. Unless you're spellbursting the turn you equip it, you would have to lock yourself out of spell use if you wanted to get a good cleave in.
I'm still floored Troublemaker is not only just as good as Ragnaros (maybe even better: You can potentially hit two targets with spare 3 damage instead of focusing the one if you're wanting to clear board), but it's a Blue so you can have two of them and just do 12 damage after every turn, and they're easy to craft. Scholomance is going to be a very wild expansion, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad yet.
Trump is basically completely right, from what I've seen of week 1 meta. He is even right about what they are used for. The two cards I haven't seen much are Mindrender, and Lapidary.
So here's a question: If you play secret passage while you have a lot of cards in hand (a bad play but bear with me) and generate/draw a lot of cards with your new hand, would you burn cards from your previous hand or would they overrule some of your new cards?
Every card was in hand before you play passage always comes back to hand in same form, every card from passage which wasn't played goes back to deck and every card you generated/draw from cards you got out of passage sticks in your hand.
Honestly, there are downsides to Lorekeeper Polkelt that I think haven't been considered by a lot of people saying how great it is. Typically, having only your most expensive cards isn't always great...you often need a disruption or removal card, which are often just a bit less expensive than other things. I think there probably are some combo decks that will use this. I think Trump is right that Warlock Quest might be a decent place for it, but honestly, I think the best time to play it is with 9 mana to guarantee your Betrug on 10. Of course, that means you cannot play other 8+ cost cards (Twisting Nether, Collossus) unless you play Polkelt a couple of turns earlier or are able to wait a couple of turns. The advantage of quest over just a standard plot-twist deck IS the interaction that Trump mentions of immediately hero powering into your highest-cost minion (so losing Collossus might not be worth it)... Ultimately, I think that most people will end up getting bitten by it because they realize they need a few lower-cost cards mixed in...we've seen this before with cards like Hemet. The concept is cute, but ultimately only useful in some sort of combo deck.
Reaper's Scythe as "little Flamestrike" really reminds me of Lightning Breath's review :D But I think this time it will actually be useful since the requirement is not so tough, the class fits better and it comes as a weapon.
Don't worry. It will. It's really not actually "draw 5", since it's excessively rare that all 5 cards will be played - it's more like draw 3. It can't be used for combos. Even if you use it to dig for a "perfect answer", it's more likely to miss that card you're looking for than find it. It's a strong card for sure, but only really scary to have played against you in very rare cases.
Yeah, I think so too. I initially hoped it wouldn't let you keep added cards, but overall it seems a bit overrated and Blizzard wouldn't print a card which is that powerful in itself with no actual condition, they are much better with balacing classes other than Demon Hunter these days

Maybe play one of their cards against them...but what is in your hand that they can play against you? Turn 6? How long can you wait against an aggro deck...by this time, they seldom have many cards in hand and most of those aren't reactive, which is probably what you need right about now....Against control, I'm right there with you, but I really don't see it being a great card against aggro. I mean - I guess you could play it turn 2, just to give them your hand for a turn, which I guess does "slow them down", but how useful is this? If you went first, you can coin out a 1-drop from their hand??? Maybe that worth it...time will tell, but I really don't think it matters a lot against aggro.
lmao have you ever played against aggro deck, going first against an aggro deck playing this on turn 2 makes them develop nothing that turn, which gives you a tempo lead massively and sometimes outright wins you games

I'm just saying I don't see it as clear-cut. If you have done this and been very successful, then I really am curious as to what the rest of your deck is like. Thus far, I've had this card played against me in one game and the opponent basically made horrible plays to empty his hand so that I wouldn't gain any benefit and then didn't have mana to play any of my stuff. So all he really accomplished was to undo the extra draws I had made and put us even on fatigue.
Although troublemaker is a nice arena card and a decent big minion, it doesn’t deserve the 3rd place because it is just TOO SLOW in the wild mode. However, wild aggro decks can definitely include Voracious Reader since it’s too powerful and I think it should be at the 3rd place instead.
Drawing 5 cards for 1 mana will never be 1 star. Not sure if it will be the best card of all time like he is hyping it. Magtheridon was a trap, it had plenty of downside and awkward to use. Only way Passage is useless is if your deck is empty.
My bet is that the card turns out to be actually decent, but nowhere near the best one in the expansion. It sees play mostly in tier 2 and 3, but Trump will keep forcing it into every Rogue deck he makes for the next 2 months or so. When the time comes to re-review this expansion Trump will argue that he was "almost" right and disregard the fact he hyped up the card like it was the second coming or something.

Survival of the fittest just gives all of your minions +4/+4. Guardian animals is the spell that summons minions from your deck, and it only cares the manacost of the minions, not survival of the fittest
I don't understand why everyone is saying "Secret Passage" is "draw 5 for 1 mana". Don't get me wrong, the card is fine, but the effect is a lot closer to Evocation than it is to a 1-cost Sprint. I get if you have an aggressive deck and have the ability to play all 5 cards then it might as well be "draw 5 cards", but you cannot simply say it is "draw 5 for 1" without mentioning the deckbuilding constraints that would go into making it do that. Trump mentions Galakrond and how you get to "keep what you draw". That's well and good, but if you play Secret Passage into Galakrond, then you have 2 more mana to play the other 4 cards you drew. So yeah, it helps find Galakrond more than a "draw 1" would, but if that's the only card you end up playing off of Secret Passage...then you haven't gained the long-term benefit of a "draw 5". Just like if you Evocation and play Flamestrike, you don't gain the benefit of multiple cards. I'm not saying that's bad - if what you needed right then was the Flamestrike, then the Evocation was certainly worth it. Same goes with Secret Passage. Certainly Secret Passage is good. Is it the best card in the set? Maybe...but I really feel like many reviewers (Trump in particular) get this thought of the ideal scenario when they see cards like this and because of that they overlook the down sides - in the case of Secret Passage, I think that downside is that it really isn't the sort of card you simply drop into any Rogue deck to make the deck better - you really need a deck that is designed to take advantage of it to make it worthwhile.
Reaper scythe looks good, but people never ask themselves, what spell am i playing to activate this ? Warrior doesn't have a lot of spells they can just use whener. They usually have pretty specific tools there.
Class matters....demon hunter is a much better place for a 5/5 deal 5.... It's an even easier requirement, arguably. The Lapidary is very similar to Glaivebound Adept, which is obviously a strong card.
Hugo_Luca_ dude, Cumulo Maximus sucks is because it’s a 5 mana card that needs you to be overloaded, it sucks, the Lapidary needs NOTHING, you just need 1 soul fragment, WHICH you will shuffle A LOT of into your deck, Cumulo Maximus either has to be combo with a card that has overload, either that or you play that card and end your turn because it costs 5 mana and you’re already overloaded a ton, Lapidary’s battlecry is basically free
So during the stream you mentioned that you think card #1 could be the strongest card of all time in Hearthstone. I am thinking unnerfed Corridor Creeper could be stronger due to how early it could be cheated out. Secret Passage is not strictly better than Soularium either, with its limitations being that it is a Rogue class card and does not allow you to use your existing hand. Though, 5 cards for 1 mana, faith in this Trump pick is high
I recently saw someone running Corridor Creeper in an evolve deck in wild, and thought to myself 'damn, that card used to have more than twice that attack'. Truly broken. Alpha and beta had some insane cards as well though.
Imagine casting 2 Lightning blooms into Kael'thas into Survival of the fittest (or ultimate infestation in wild) on turn three, it seems like blizzard don't know much about putting a limit to highrolling.
There's one thing I learned after playing hearthstone and magic for quite sometime. The best and in my opinion most consistent strategy is not letting your opponents strategy play out. With aggro you mostly lose against other better aggro decks and decks that are specifically built to counter your deck. I hate aggro I think it's not interactive or fun to play against. It's like your opponent wants to get the match over with as fast as possible and that sucks. So when blizzard gives aggro decks a card like voracious reader I'll wait and see how bad it'll be but I'm already thinking about skipping this expansion because I neither want to play aggro nor do I want to play an aggro counter deck. That's probably insane but when the meta starts to dictate which deck I have to play and I can't play my own built decks because net decking is so wide spread in hearthstone I don't want to play at all.

I'm quite worried that Secret Passage will not be as strong as it's hyped now. Mostly because it's the only really good card Rogue recieved. I think it's glnna be a core card of a tier 2/3 deck of Tempo Rogue. Galakrond's nerf was just way too much for a weak class like this and now Rogues are dead in the meta. In a deck that cares only about tempo, Secret Passage is not so great, because you have to pay 1 mana for a refill that will only be relevant by turn 5 or 6 and will swap back the following turn. I may be very wrong, but I don't think tempo Rogue will be a powerfull deck. Btw, Secret Passage may be a great addition to Odd Rogue in Wild.
Personally I don't agree with a lot of Trump Reviews but these are certainly the best newest cards by a mile. Legendaries are amazing but besides the obviously busted Mindreader don't belong on the list solely because they can't be 2-of's like the rest of these.

Imagine turn 3 and your opponent plays Lightning bloom + Lightning bloom + Kael'thas + Survival of the fitest. Sure they don't get a turn after but it's turn 3 and they have an 8/11 kael'thas and the rest of the minions are +4/+4
You don’t even need two lightning blooms, any combination of three of these: Breath of dreams, Lightning Bloom, and innervate will get you either a kaelthas or guardian animals by turn 4.
I’m really excited to play Secret Passage with a hand of 5 in a midrange deck so my opponent laughs at me before realizing I just played 3 cards that replaced themselves at the end of the turn for 1 mana.

Of course, that means you cannot play other 8+ cost cards (Twisting Nether, Collossus) unless you play Polkelt a couple of turns earlier or are able to wait a couple of turns. The advantage of quest over just a standard plot-twist deck IS the interaction that Trump mentions of immediately hero powering into your highest-cost minion (so losing Collossus might not be worth it)...
Ultimately, I think that most people will end up getting bitten by it because they realize they need a few lower-cost cards mixed in...we've seen this before with cards like Hemet. The concept is cute, but ultimately only useful in some sort of combo deck.
Can't wait to see this list be completely upended.

It's really not actually "draw 5", since it's excessively rare that all 5 cards will be played - it's more like draw 3. It can't be used for combos. Even if you use it to dig for a "perfect answer", it's more likely to miss that card you're looking for than find it.
It's a strong card for sure, but only really scary to have played against you in very rare cases.
Yeah, I think so too. I initially hoped it wouldn't let you keep added cards, but overall it seems a bit overrated and Blizzard wouldn't print a card which is that powerful in itself with no actual condition, they are much better with balacing classes other than Demon Hunter these days

Rogue won't search for any answers, they will just smorc you down to the ground. And deck with one 5 mana card and 85% of deck 0 to 3 mana can play potentially all 5 cards from passage. Yeah Kuroro knows better than almost all pros, streamers and hs analysts. May i ask you Kuroro how many "sleeper" t.1 decks you discovered in hs adventure that you are so sure about your evaluation which is that different? Or maybe how many meta decks you have made on your own? Or at least what is your avg. WR with your own homemade decks? 1:25 Question - how does Mindrender Illucia help against aggro decks? Yes, you take their hand for 1 turn...but when? On turn 2...um, no, because then you have no mana to play anything. Turn 4? Maybe play one of their cards against them...but what is in your hand that they can play against you? Turn 6? How long can you wait against an aggro deck...by this time, they seldom have many cards in hand and most of those aren't reactive, which is probably what you need right about now....Against control, I'm right there with you, but I really don't see it being a great card against aggro.
I mean - I guess you could play it turn 2, just to give them your hand for a turn, which I guess does "slow them down", but how useful is this? If you went first, you can coin out a 1-drop from their hand??? Maybe that worth it...time will tell, but I really don't think it matters a lot against aggro.
lmao have you ever played against aggro deck, going first against an aggro deck playing this on turn 2 makes them develop nothing that turn, which gives you a tempo lead massively and sometimes outright wins you games

You say, "...gives you a tempo lead...", which implies you have a decent early game...so why doesn't the opponent just play one of your cards on their turn 2? If you aren't playing any other early game (everything else is 3 or more), then what do you do against tempo if you don't draw this?
I want to be clear - I'm not saying you are wrong. I'm just saying I don't see it as clear-cut. If you have done this and been very successful, then I really am curious as to what the rest of your deck is like.
Thus far, I've had this card played against me in one game and the opponent basically made horrible plays to empty his hand so that I wouldn't gain any benefit and then didn't have mana to play any of my stuff. So all he really accomplished was to undo the extra draws I had made and put us even on fatigue.

Although troublemaker is a nice arena card and a decent big minion, it doesn’t deserve the 3rd place because it is just TOO SLOW in the wild mode. However, wild aggro decks can definitely include Voracious Reader since it’s too powerful and I think it should be at the 3rd place instead.

Drawing 5 cards for 1 mana will never be 1 star. Not sure if it will be the best card of all time like he is hyping it. Magtheridon was a trap, it had plenty of downside and awkward to use. Only way Passage is useless is if your deck is empty.
My bet is that the card turns out to be actually decent, but nowhere near the best one in the expansion. It sees play mostly in tier 2 and 3, but Trump will keep forcing it into every Rogue deck he makes for the next 2 months or so.
When the time comes to re-review this expansion Trump will argue that he was "almost" right and disregard the fact he hyped up the card like it was the second coming or something.

Survival of the fittest just gives all of your minions +4/+4. Guardian animals is the spell that summons minions from your deck, and it only cares the manacost of the minions, not survival of the fittest

Blood Herald is way Underrated.
Try it out in a token control DH / Hunter shell. Havent lost yet. And Blood Herald is usually my Win Con.
I don't understand why everyone is saying "Secret Passage" is "draw 5 for 1 mana". Don't get me wrong, the card is fine, but the effect is a lot closer to Evocation than it is to a 1-cost Sprint. I get if you have an aggressive deck and have the ability to play all 5 cards then it might as well be "draw 5 cards", but you cannot simply say it is "draw 5 for 1" without mentioning the deckbuilding constraints that would go into making it do that. Trump mentions Galakrond and how you get to "keep what you draw". That's well and good, but if you play Secret Passage into Galakrond, then you have 2 more mana to play the other 4 cards you drew. So yeah, it helps find Galakrond more than a "draw 1" would, but if that's the only card you end up playing off of Secret Passage...then you haven't gained the long-term benefit of a "draw 5". Just like if you Evocation and play Flamestrike, you don't gain the benefit of multiple cards. I'm not saying that's bad - if what you needed right then was the Flamestrike, then the Evocation was certainly worth it. Same goes with Secret Passage.
Certainly Secret Passage is good. Is it the best card in the set? Maybe...but I really feel like many reviewers (Trump in particular) get this thought of the ideal scenario when they see cards like this and because of that they overlook the down sides - in the case of Secret Passage, I think that downside is that it really isn't the sort of card you simply drop into any Rogue deck to make the deck better - you really need a deck that is designed to take advantage of it to make it worthwhile.
Reaper scythe looks good, but people never ask themselves, what spell am i playing to activate this ? Warrior doesn't have a lot of spells they can just use whener. They usually have pretty specific tools there.

Why does everybody forget Cumolo Maximus (or whatever that 5 mana 5/5 deal 5 name is), that card didnt work out so I cant see Lapidary working out

Class matters....demon hunter is a much better place for a 5/5 deal 5.... It's an even easier requirement, arguably.
The Lapidary is very similar to Glaivebound Adept, which is obviously a strong card.
You can't play an overload card on four and expect to play Cumolo on five.

Hugo_Luca_ dude, Cumulo Maximus sucks is because it’s a 5 mana card that needs you to be overloaded, it sucks, the Lapidary needs NOTHING, you just need 1 soul fragment, WHICH you will shuffle A LOT of into your deck, Cumulo Maximus either has to be combo with a card that has overload, either that or you play that card and end your turn because it costs 5 mana and you’re already overloaded a ton, Lapidary’s battlecry is basically free
So during the stream you mentioned that you think card #1 could be the strongest card of all time in Hearthstone. I am thinking unnerfed Corridor Creeper could be stronger due to how early it could be cheated out.
Secret Passage is not strictly better than Soularium either, with its limitations being that it is a Rogue class card and does not allow you to use your existing hand. Though, 5 cards for 1 mana, faith in this Trump pick is high
I recently saw someone running Corridor Creeper in an evolve deck in wild, and thought to myself 'damn, that card used to have more than twice that attack'. Truly broken. Alpha and beta had some insane cards as well though.
Imagine casting 2 Lightning blooms into Kael'thas into Survival of the fittest (or ultimate infestation in wild) on turn three, it seems like blizzard don't know much about putting a limit to highrolling.
There's one thing I learned after playing hearthstone and magic for quite sometime. The best and in my opinion most consistent strategy is not letting your opponents strategy play out. With aggro you mostly lose against other better aggro decks and decks that are specifically built to counter your deck. I hate aggro I think it's not interactive or fun to play against. It's like your opponent wants to get the match over with as fast as possible and that sucks.
So when blizzard gives aggro decks a card like voracious reader I'll wait and see how bad it'll be but I'm already thinking about skipping this expansion because I neither want to play aggro nor do I want to play an aggro counter deck. That's probably insane but when the meta starts to dictate which deck I have to play and I can't play my own built decks because net decking is so wide spread in hearthstone I don't want to play at all.
Illucia #1. It's the strongest card in Hearthstone. By itself it makes Priest viable.

I'm quite worried that Secret Passage will not be as strong as it's hyped now. Mostly because it's the only really good card Rogue recieved. I think it's glnna be a core card of a tier 2/3 deck of Tempo Rogue. Galakrond's nerf was just way too much for a weak class like this and now Rogues are dead in the meta. In a deck that cares only about tempo, Secret Passage is not so great, because you have to pay 1 mana for a refill that will only be relevant by turn 5 or 6 and will swap back the following turn. I may be very wrong, but I don't think tempo Rogue will be a powerfull deck. Btw, Secret Passage may be a great addition to Odd Rogue in Wild.
Kael'thas + Lightning Bloom + any spell costing 2 or less = survival of the fittest turn 7.
That alone almost justifies lightning Bloom's rating.

Personally I don't agree with a lot of Trump Reviews but these are certainly the best newest cards by a mile. Legendaries are amazing but besides the obviously busted Mindreader don't belong on the list solely because they can't be 2-of's like the rest of these.

Imagine turn 3 and your opponent plays Lightning bloom + Lightning bloom + Kael'thas + Survival of the fitest. Sure they don't get a turn after but it's turn 3 and they have an 8/11 kael'thas and the rest of the minions are +4/+4
You don’t even need two lightning blooms, any combination of three of these: Breath of dreams, Lightning Bloom, and innervate will get you either a kaelthas or guardian animals by turn 4.
