My wife loves it. I hate it. Not easy to work on but I have been able to fix everything so far. I guess any new car is hard to work on. I am old and like how cars used to be. Like I said my wife loves it. I have videos on repairing most of the problems you will have,,,
Hi, Cam. My wife's car is identical - even the same blue color - and I've had the same problem more times than I care to mention. Best I can tell, there was never a keyed lock cylinder to the trunk latch(idiots!). When the battery is dead, I connect a relatively small(16 ga) 3' wire with an alligator clip to the positive post on the starter (which can be reached from the top of the right, front side of the 2004, 3.0L, 6 cyl. engine) to a jumper cable from positive post of a jumper battery only long enough to activate the electric trunk switch. Then, I either charge the battery or jump it. I am seriously considering creating some kind of accessible jumper posts under the hood. (Also, just like you, my wife won't let me sell it and I'm 6'-4" and can't stand driving it.) Thanks for your videos.
Thank you for the comment! have you tried what I did in the video. I have a string tied to the truck release handle that is on the inside. The string comes out the side of the seat. If the battery goes dead you just pull the string and open the trunk(boot). I am 6'3" I hate driving it but my wife is short and fits her perfectly. The passenger seat actually has lots of room. My knees hit the dash in the driver seat. My biggest issues is not being able to hook my scantool to it. None of my mechanic friends can scan it either. Thanks for the positive comment. I received a bunch of hate on this video. Most said your an idiot just stick a key in the trunk. Well they didn't listen. Mine don't work.
ALSO, YES THAT VALET BUTTON ON THE GLOVE BOX HAS EVERY THING TO DO WITH IT. THE BASKET BUTTON IS SO THAT SOMEONE CAN'T JUST WALK UP AND PUSH THE TRUNK BUTTON AND OPEN YOUR TRUNK. PUSHING IT AGAIN WILL SHUT IT OFF AND ALLOW YOU TO JUST WALK UP AND PUSH THE TRUNK BUTTON OUTSIDE OR INSIDE AND YOUR TRUNK SHOULD OPEN. BY THE WAY, GREAT IDEA OF TYING THE STRING TO THE TRUNK RELEASE LEVER!!!
Its happened several times since I made that video. Wife left lights on during day. The string made it easy to open. Once she locked keys in trunk. Anyways I need to fix the key lock in the truck. The lady that had it before us said the dealer replaced the release solenode and I guess they disconnected the key cylinder. She said it never work after dealer replaced that.
You know what's funny is I had about six and a half inches to squeeze through. Maybe less and I squeezed myself through the whole. It was tiring as hell but you know what I pushed myself through and I released the emergency latch and I did it myself so I don't need no damn kid. Lol
I used an earth anchor t-handle to push the seat release. But you could use any kind of stiff rod. Normally you pull them from the back. I pushed them from the front...You go in from the right seat and pull the trunk release. Its a long reach but a bunch of coat hangers you could lasso it.
i had the same problem a few years ago. i managed to open the rear seat back-rest, connected a 2nd battery to the dead one using jump-cables, she started straight away. That was my 1st S-Type, on my 2nd S-Type the key opened the trunk with no problem.
Beside the seat. between the seat and the side of the car. there is a "cushion". You slide your finger in the gap/seem. You will feel a plastic latch. Pull it and the whole cushion pops right out. Now take a long rod. Pull the seat back as far as you can. You can get like an inch gap. Put that rod in that gap. push the seat release and the seat will fold down. Then pull the emergency truck release.
OR,..... YOU COULD HAVE GONE UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER WELL, PULLED BACK THE PROTECTIVE COVER AND BOOM, THERE WILL BE A RED CAP THERE. REMOVE THE CAP AND THERE IS A SPOT TO CONNECT YOUR JUMPER CABLES FOR THE "POSATIVE" SIDE AND THEN FIND A GOOD GROUND FOR NEGATIVE.
Please explain where this is located!!! I have changed the control arms. I have cleaned out the sun roof drains. I have never seen a spot you can jump to. There is a belly pan so can get to the starter. The owner's manual says the only place to jump is the battery in the trunk. SO I really want to know how I have over looked a jump post like what chryslers have. I have looked everywhere for one. How would you get under fender shirt without tools? Half are philips and other half are push pins. that where the drains are at.
Can I have a jumper cable that has a female connection on both ends that I can put in cigarette liter in one car and in cigarette liter in the dead car and let run a few minutes and start dead car. Works good if you can get to liter on dead car! Jerry Abney.
Mine doesn't have a cigarette lighter. Had to charge the battery over night. a few minutes is not going to charge a dead battery when It took my battery charger over night to charge the dead battery. If it works for you go for it...
@@outdoorswithcam except you didnt try a simple squirt of WD40 in the lock cylinder. They get corroded from lack of use. Any Jaguar or BMW owner knows to regularly check and keep the trunk lock working. Sorry you had to go the long way around. Jaguarforums.com
If you watch the video you will see that was the first thing I tried. I gu8ess the tumbler is broke. Thought about fixing it but why? I left the yellow string attached to the inside release and all I have to do is slide the two latches on the side cushion and pull the string...
Well when there is only one place in town that will work on a Jag. They charged $300 diagnosis and scantool, $150 radiaotr, Top hose $200, Bottom hose $50, Then Antifreeze. Thats the part prices off Rockauto. So if they mark the parts up...
I'm interested in buying the Jaguar

Thank you very much. After two weeks thinking on how I was going to do this, you gave me the solution. Thanks from Puerto Rico.
I am glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for the feedback!

WOW there is no way I could possibly squeeze through
please comment back on how you pulled the latches

Okay but how did you get the back seat to come off if they were locked? You mentioned it then went back to the side panels

easy.....open with the key , above the license plate little key hole
Doesn't work. It's in the video. Valet mode
There was a key hole on the bottom of the trunk door above The license plate
If you watched the video, I addressed that in video. It doesn't work. That was the first thing I tried...

How much you want for your Jag???
Wife won't let me sell it. I can't drive it. no leg room
Why would they put a battery in the boot???
just yesterday my battery died.but the key in the holr and push the jaguar botton in the middle of the trunk and it will open

Oh you beauty.... struggling .... watched this id where to put key and open. XXXX
That is just dumb to put batteries in trunk. Why do they do it?
Weight distribution and temperature not to mention lack of space under the bonnet, it's a large battery !!
@JohnTasker2345 I guess but still thing it's dumb. I had a battery blow up once. Would hate to see all the acid in truck.
