The Jaguar is really coming around. The “super” tune did wonders to put the growl back into the cat. It might seem petty, but the crusty looking steering wheel would drive me nuts. It can be dyed back to look new because a detailer at my Lexus dealer redid mine perfectly. Really made a difference.
He never does that stuff even when it's seems like it would be really convenient like the engine is out he just does what is needed and if it doesn't go bad on him that's the next guy's problem
I’m soooo excited to see the Jaaag getting better. I spent over $10k onto mine to bring it back although it wasn’t in such a bad shape like yours. I figured out later mine was a kind of flip car. Dealers bought it than sold it within a short amount of time so it wasn’t even driven a lot i had only 99k miles on it and the car was like 12 years old when i got it. Mine had a 6 spd auto and it was very fast and smooth. The 3.0 v6 is not 0-60mph champion but it can surprise you when you on the highway and stepping onto the gas at 60mph. The mechanical parts are bullet proof unlike the electrical parts. It can be very annoying cause the check engine light is on for everything. Dispite all the issues what i had I freaking miss mine. Maybe one day I will get another one.
I worked at Ford on the assembly lines and built these motors. They have an entire different set of heads than the Ford version Duratec. The valves were activated using a direct action mechanical bucket. The ford heads used roller finger followers. It also had a much larger oil pan than the fords did allowing a larger oil capacity, as well as a oil cooler which likely could significantly extend the life of this motor if maintained properly.
My 1999 cougar had a 2.5 duratec with a 5 speed manual and no oil cooler did not fare so well. It only had a 5 qt capacity. At 68k miles I threw a rod. It didn't help that I drove that car hard and fast like it was a Porsche LoL!
12:22 that’s normal, I have an 04 Lincoln LS, the parking brake gets upset when the battery is low, just hit clear and it will be fine next time you start the car.
My '06 s type that I just bought for $1,000, has some cosmetic issues in the interior, but I changed the spark plugs, and this thing Hauls ass! I'm already getting offers to buy it, and I haven't done much with it yet. Wait till I get that new aftermarket radio installed, and get the doors and windows fixed. I didn't think I would, but I absolutely love this damn car.
don’t always comment but you’re videos are the ones i enjoy to watch the most on YT, i check everyday to see if you post, honest educational and fun you don’t see that often anywhere. Thank You been watching for a couple years and always enjoy the videos, i do miss shop repair/upgrades videos!
Should have taken the intermediate intake off. Super easy…and you get to the lower gaskets. Those are usually the issue with leaks. And it gives you a chance to look at the injectors.
Fix what really needs it and see if it runs happy again. I got all the oil leaks fixed on my old neon and then just to cap all the work I'd recently done besides the leaks and it threw the timing belt, I gave up... Watching now 👍
I have a smaller Noco box, but after 12 months and 2 uses it wouldn't turn on, luckily customer service was excellent and they sent a replacement once the serial was scratched off.... It was just a failed 4 pole smd switch so now I have two!
Great work. Nice you are able to keep another "manual transmission" car on the road and away from the scrap yard. I tell ya I had my doubts after you got the list of things needed on that car from the Jag guru.
Thanks for taking the time to bring back some pounce to this Brit cat! I reckon you`ll have a load of fun once the suspension is up to scratch again.. Your making me want to buy another one!
Most people look at this the wrong way. If you can pick up a luxury car cheap enough and restore it you have a nice car that should last for at least 300,000 mile. That's good value compared to what's on the new car market.
The Noco 4000's are great jump boxes. They start everything in my rental fleet from dead flat.....excavators, loaders, even diesel dump trucks. It can even kick my 12V 3-battery semi truck over, so long as its not totally dead. We did manage to kill one after 2-3 years though, it seems like the internal chargers are the weak point. The battery shop I get them from confirmed they are the most common failure, but have no problems warrantying them before 18 months.
Really wish you would replace all the bushings with some poly bushes. Maybe from white-line. This might be a stupid question, but couldn't you replace the factory cats with high flow aftermarket, then use a o2 censor spacer, then clear the codes? I am not sure the legality of it, but worth a shot?
The electronic parking brake on my Discovery (JLR, same item) failed to release fully last week when the battery was failing. New battery solved the problem
Nice to see a non-transverse V6 in a car for once. Glad it runs so much better it after a "simple" tune up 🎉 Love the new jump pack, I have the little gb40 & wouldn't buy anything other than NOCO, well worth the price.
The "apply park brake" thing is normal on these after a dead/ disconnected battery, I've had to do it plenty of times on my 03 4.2L. Just one of those quirky Jag things.
It's a fun time (by some definitions) to use a lithium jump pack on a riding lawnmower, they really spin fast when they get that much juice. Clearly the little lawn and garden 12V lead acid batteries drop a lot of voltage under load
That V6 is based on the Ford Duratec engine. If it's having chain guide issues it must have been really neglected-those engines are free of major issues as long as you keep oil and coolant in them.
Going forward there's a lot more room to work on the back of the engine when you take the cowling off under the wiper blades. If this is like my 2003 4.2l while it's off you can replace the cabin filter. Not a big job at all. Also if your car has HID headlights, buy good bulbs because replacing them is a bear.
Congrats on the gbx155 it's a beast. There is a gb250 which has a whopping 5250 amps, comes in a heavy duty carrying case with a shoulder strap it's so heavy and does a better job on our school buses, but the gbx155 does start whatever I throw at it (with some smoking at the connections and hot wires).
Good job, remember to pressure-bleed the cooling system, else you'll keep having trouble due to air bubbles. That might also affect your climate control! - After doing the suspension - if you want to add some "show" to the go, get some 18 inch alloys from the Jag XF. I have done same and they look great as well as allowing some wider tires. I got Yokohama Advan Fleva which are very quiet tires. And yes it should be like 'glued to the road' after getting it all in order. Can drift too... turn off the ESP...
Those electric parking brakes on the Jags do not like low voltage, if the battery goes dead or gets low, they goof up. After the voltage is back to normal, it will be good!
That steering wheel sure looks like standard Ford parts bin fare. Maybe there's a good one to be had for a decent price. I wondered for a moment why you didn't paint the valve covers. Then I remembered that the beauty cover makes that completely unnecessary.
This is a nice find of a car. Unfortunately without the know-how and tools to fix it yourself this car would be a money pit. I would love to own one especially a manual or even a S-type R. The white color of the car fits the design! Its either the white or black color. I can only dream. You will fetch a really good sum when you sell this car as it now has all the work documented. If only i had the cash.....
Hey JR I heard you said your cats were bad, you should try lacquer thinner in your fuel. Buy a gallon of it and put it in with a full tank and run it. It worked for me and their videos all over UA-cam of people having success. It's worth a try in my book anyway. Good luck.
Be careful with drifting/spinning the wheels. There's a software issue, at least with my 2.7d, which means that if the wheels spin, like in the snow, and the traction control is activated, sometimes it locks up the electronic parking brake next time you stop. You need to log into the parking brake module and reset it. I didn't know this and the first time it happened to me I spent £600 on new parking brake components. Next time the RAC man was able to reset it as I knew what the problem was. Apparently it's a service bulletin and software update in the US but here in the UK no Jaguar dealer or specialist know about it and and say I have the latest software.
Pre 1970 cars are sky rocketing in price, because their better built, less plastic, no sensors or computers. You can install timing GEARS instead of belts or chains. Service them yourself or get any 10 year old to do it for you. And look better driving them. Go classic, enjoy life.
Got to agree with the others, this is a great rebuild and it is awesome to see you bring this Jag back!!
Spark plug risers on the o2 sensors do miracles for Jaguars when they have Catalyst codes. Definitely worth a try on this one
you should replace the timing chain guides they’re a ticking time bomb aka brittle don’t ruin the engine
The car just isn’t worth enough to do it. If it was low miles and good condition maybe, but it just doesn’t make sense
He never does that stuff even when it's seems like it would be really convenient like the engine is out he just does what is needed and if it doesn't go bad on him that's the next guy's problem
I think it's because if you do all the "while I'm in there" jobs you basically end up rebuilding the whole engine. You have to stop somewhere.
The S-Type is a great car, I had one for many years and loved every moment with it - should have kept it
I’m soooo excited to see the Jaaag getting better. I spent over $10k onto mine to bring it back although it wasn’t in such a bad shape like yours. I figured out later mine was a kind of flip car. Well done. Glad you are sticking with it. Can’t wait for the suspension video. One last thing. Please address the hideous steering wheel!
Im glad to see someone finally making videos on these!
I was blown away when I found out the V6 and the V8 call for 7 liters of oil! 😳
Love the channel, and your willingness to accept challenges that most of us "shade tree" mechanics would have passed on.

Amazon sells all the suspension parts for 1/4 of what you were quoted. Prices were similar to my grand caravan.
I hope you get the timing chain tensioner fixed 😮🤞🏻 it would be terrible if it caused major issues down the road.
Drop it on some dummy on marketplace
Lol shit will grenade right down the road
Way to jinx it
Please fix the timing chain guide - I know it's a pain, but leaving it would be bad
Fix what really needs it and see if it runs happy again. I got all the oil leaks fixed on my old neon and then just to cap all the work I'd recently done besides the leaks and it threw the timing belt, I gave up... Watching now 👍
Looks like you've got the Jag sorted.... now it's time to see how much you can flip it for! :D
I have a smaller Noco box, but after 12 months and 2 uses it wouldn't turn on, luckily customer service was excellent and they sent a replacement once the serial was scratched off.... It was just a failed 4 pole smd switch so now I have two!
I need to donthe same thing to mine. My suspension is shot too. But I only have 85,000 miles . I'm jealous I need to get in your level
Great work. Nice you are able to keep another "manual transmission" car on the road and away from the scrap yard. I tell ya I had my doubts after you got the list of things needed on that car from the Jag guru.
Great wrenching.
I love these top to bottom repair series.
Dig these videos. Bring cars like this back. Appreciate the grind
Thanks for taking the time to bring back some pounce to this Brit cat! I reckon you`ll have a load of fun once the suspension is up to scratch again.. Your making me want to buy another one!

Nice! This is my favorite type of content on this channel.
Good work. What are your plans to address that grimy steering wheel?
The Noco 4000's are great jump boxes. They start everything in my rental fleet from dead flat.....excavators, loaders, even diesel dump trucks. Hey it’s Jason it was really nice meeting you. I wasn’t expecting to meet you especially while working lol. I hope you finally got that wheel off 😂😂
i have 03 same with the v8 nt supercharge but it is as you said very fun car to drive !!
Really wish you would replace all the bushings with some poly bushes. Maybe from white-line. This might be a stupid question, but couldn't you replace the factory cats with high flow aftermarket, then use a o2 censor spacer, then clear the codes? I am not sure the legality of it, but worth a shot?
I love that your favorite car is almost always the last one you fixed...
The electronic parking brake on my Discovery (JLR, same item) failed to release fully last week when the battery was failing. New battery solved the problem
Great video well presented. I’ve got a 3.0 V6 too and this will help a lot. Thanks
Nice to see a non-transverse V6 in a car for once. Glad it runs so much better it after a "simple" tune up 🎉 Love the new jump pack, I have the little gb40 & wouldn't buy anything other than NOCO, well worth the price.
I had an X-type and loved it. I had to do everything you are doing. I am kind of sad I sold it.
The "apply park brake" thing is normal on these after a dead/ disconnected battery, I've had to do it plenty of times on my 03 4.2L. Just one of those quirky Jag things.
Great job, the variety of vehicles and your ability to figure out issues is amazing. You should collab with 2vintage - repair guy in Wisconsin
Great project JR!
Happy New Gasket Day!!!!!!!
At first I expected you to come home on a hook but she’s a keeper
Is opening the garage door before starting the car just not a thing anymore? ;)
Sounds great, i like those Jags. But first of all clean the steering wheel haha
Love the Jag stuff JR
The drifting is the rear tie rod bushings the two rear wheels are steering the car.
It's a fun time (by some definitions) to use a lithium jump pack on a riding lawnmower, they really spin fast when they get that much juice. Clearly the little lawn and garden 12V lead acid batteries drop a lot of voltage under load
I just noticed on the oil cap that this engine calls for 5W-30. The Ford Duratec version called for 5W-20.
The Duratec is a really good engine, I have the same 3.0 in my Lincoln.
Another great video from JR. Thanks
That V6 is based on the Ford Duratec engine. If it's having chain guide issues it must have been really neglected-those engines are free of major issues as long as you keep oil and coolant in them.
hey don't you want to replace the broken chain slider ? :-)
Sweet Jag but that steering wheel needs a refresh.
Awesome, glad to see it get a new lease on life
Going forward there's a lot more room to work on the back of the engine when you take the cowling off under the wiper blades. If this is like my 2003 4.2l while it's off you can replace the cabin filter. Not a big job at all. Also if your car has HID headlights, buy good bulbs because replacing them is a bear.
Awesome build bro
The more I look videos about this engine, I start loving my M112😅
Love my noco boost i have the gb150 and works great on my ram 1500 5.7 hemi
I drive by the NOCO headquarters daily.
The 3.0 is probably the best of the S Types and to get one with a manual gearbox is even rarer even here in the UK!!!
Again a great video, thanks for sharing
Perfect car for this! Sounds so good!!!! Great job!!!!!
Congrats on the gbx155 it's a beast. There is a gb250 which has a whopping 5250 amps, comes in a heavy duty carrying case with a shoulder strap it's so heavy and does a better job on our school buses, but the gbx155 does start whatever I throw at it (with some smoking at the connections and hot wires).
totally agree, NOCOs are the straight bomb......
Yep, I was just going to comment on that as I have the GB250+ and it's helped me start a few diesels as well the occasional stranded driver's car.
We tinker on all the same cars though. I just don't have a tube channel. Maybe we can impact some hose clamps together sometime man!!!
Good job, remember to pressure-bleed the cooling system, else you'll keep having trouble due to air bubbles.
That might also affect your climate control!

And yes it should be like 'glued to the road' after getting it all in order. Can drift too... turn off the ESP...
Hopefully you have a steering wheel cover in that back seat pile....😁😁
That ford runs pretty good.
I would have so many extra parts if I attempted anything like this!
Since you found a piece of cracked brittle tensioner and the other has to just as brittle. Why not go ahead and take care of that potential problem?
If it were not 8:00AM, I'd grab my MEGA Pint of wine and watch this MEGA Tune Up
Is this a good car to have as a first car?
And is it cheep to maintain?
Those electric parking brakes on the Jags do not like low voltage, if the battery goes dead or gets low, they goof up. After the voltage is back to normal, it will be good!
The old JRGo would have done an engine-out or whatever is necessary to replace that timing chain. :( #harshtruths
On a lift I'd be about it, that said if I spend another dollar this car will be a loss 🍻
Please tell me you will swap out the steering wheel 😀
That steering wheel sure looks like standard Ford parts bin fare. Maybe there's a good one to be had for a decent price. I wondered for a moment why you didn't paint the valve covers. Then I remembered that the beauty cover makes that completely unnecessary.
Awsome car, to bad mine has a small hole in the block, leaking me coolant.. Doing a motor swap soon
How do you think, how can you restore the paint on the steering wheel?
Awesome Jag 🤘🏽🔥
MSDS headers and a Borla makes these sound great.
Damn sounds good 👍
I still wonder how a coyote swap would fit in there? Maybe it’s the perfect platform to fit convert
GREAT WORK AGAIN BUD 👍👍LOVE THE JJAAGG ❤️❤️
This is a nice find of a car. Unfortunately without the know-how and tools to fix it yourself this car would be a money pit. I would love to own one especially a manual or even a S-type R. The Honorary British Citizen, Lord JR in his Jaaaag … 😂👍

My understanding is that the cats are actually removed from the car.
Okay well know amount of lacquer thinner is going to help that then is it. 😁 it's still a great tip for anyone with cat codes.
Any update on when the escalade video is coming?
Love the video, I have one little gripe, please clean the steering wheel 😄
I got the noco gb150 haven’t got to use it yet but it’s huge lol
would love to see a apple car play/ android auto and rear view camera install
How about on the Geo instead?
@@WatchJRGo why not both? Maybe crutch field will sponsor you
Valve cover gasket kit what is the small rubber ones for
Be careful with drifting/spinning the wheels. When will you get back in a larger garage.
Great work 👏 👍
Weird, says atm uploaded 18 hours ago a, although I was looking for a new video the last 12 hours. It just now showed up.
just bought the same NOCO!! haha!! Project Farm rules!!
Pre 1970 cars are sky rocketing in price, because their better built, less plastic, no sensors or computers.

I live my life in 2/10 of a second in that time I'm alive, I am groot
It will be a perfect daily keeper when you finish it. The Jag will be better than factory and that’s saying something.
jump post in passenger wheel well red connector cover HOW crazy is that😂
has that had the rear exhaust box delete
