- Crooked or broken blinds can be fixed. Good to have them working when selling or buying a new house! It will save you money on your next mortgage!
Arduino projects coming soon: stm32 oscilloscope! $8
Yay - That is the exact same "motor" or "drum" that winds up the cord when pushing it up. I have 3 "motors" in mine and one is broken - I disassembled it and see that the end of the spring is broken off, the piece that is a little wider and holds the end of the spring in the plastic piece to roll it up. I searched for hours for this part, also called Nien Made - he couldn't help me with the part but also told me that the product is being sold as "Home Decorators Collection" via Home Depot. Searched further - but can't find anything that has these motors in the bottom rail. Pretty much all blinds have these mechanisms at the top....
Can you tell me where I can get such a replacement "motor"? That would be terrific! Cheers!
Just fixed my second broken blind. Was so much easier second time around. Still referred to your video to refresh order of repair. Less than fifteen minutes from taking off window to putting back on 😉
Hey that's great!
THANKS!! Moved into a house 3 days ago and the big picture window had one of these shades and it stopped working the 3rd day, so no view! I watched your video and (angel music) wa la, it fixed itself. You were right I did have to pull it all the way down, gently stretch it down and sort of tug a bit on each end in a zig zag (first one side, then the other) motion and after about ten tugs it snapped back and we have our view back! : )
Awesome! So glad it helped!
Seems easier than I thought, good job on the video!
I got mine on eBay. To measure, you wrap around a pencil ten times, measure in millimeters, then divide by ten. That's the diameter.
@@TheRainHarvester Good to know, thanks!
@@uiopuiop3472 oh I replied to the wrong person. Oh well.
@@TheRainHarvester Still good to know, was wondering about that after the video
Thank you for your video especially about threading the 2 plastic mechanisms. Also spraying the cord with clear silicone spray will help with any friction with the cord & blind. I replaced both cords and I am having trouble getting the blinds to retract. Any suggestions?
Is the spring mechanism still (correctly) trying to rewind?
If not, you may need to wind it again.
@@TheRainHarvester same problem here... the rod came out of the other spool as I was disassembling and I heard it unwind and it clearly lost the tension. I spun the rod through the tensioner to rewire the spools and bring the blind to the top. Was hoping that would wind it up again but did not. Any ideas how to properly do this? There is a little CW symbol with arrows to show direction to spin the rod, so I assume this can be done.
Top strip tread from machine side broken how to fix
So I followed your instructions but my spring mechanisms are unwound and won't wind again! Now what do i do?
At 4:26 it describes the winding of the cylinders. They just take up slack. They don't apply winding tension. Those 2 white blocks in the middle apply the winding tension. If those unwound, you have to somehow turn them so they are woundup tight when the cord is fully extended.
I did as you’ve show here and I did everything right and it’s won’t retracted, what did I do wrong?
Maybe the spring inside the mechanism is broken? Can you wind it a little to see if it still pulls?
Thanks. 👊
Where do you purchase the new cords? How do you know what size? Thanks!
I got mine on eBay. To measure, you wrap the cord around a pencil ten times, measure the distance along the pencil where the cord is wrapped, in millimeters, then divide by ten. That's the diameter in millimeters.
I got mine at a large fabric store. Very inexpensive.
Are yours Nien Made brand from Home Depot. It looks same as mine. What was the correct size of cord you used? Thanks so much!
Mine were ordered from JCPenny or Dillards I think.
@@TheRainHarvester what size cord did you get?
@@cheryljane7095 (had to go measure) it was .9mm.
Great thanks so much. My cord was too shredded to measure
@@cheryljane7095 sure! I'm here to help!
How do you get the blinds off the window frame?
There are metal tabs on mine. If I tilt the top /white bar, it kind of clicks out. Sometimes you need to spring the tab out but mine are stiff.
What size cord did you use?
I dont remember but... To measure, you wrap the cord around a pencil ten times, measure the distance along the pencil where the cord is wrapped, in millimeters, then divide by ten. That's the diameter in millimeters.
horrible camera work,sorry
