This worked so well for me. Thank you! I had to stop the video along the way quite a bit, but eventually, I was able to restring my blind. This video saved me $55 to get it restrung professionally.
Exactly what I needed to repair my blind. Wasn't sure my blinds were fixable until I watched this video. A lot of steps but this was easy to follow and my blinds are working as new!
This video and instruction is so helpful! It took some time and determination with pausing the video on and off - but I finished the job in an afternoon and saved $100 (minimum bid to have it done elsewhere). Thank you!!!
A friend wanted me to see if I could restring her blind. Watched this video and figured out how to restring the blind, not the same kind but this video help a whole lot. Keep up the good work. thanks for sharing
I am not much of handyman, but that repair had to be done . . . what a nightmare this was going to be! Well, that video made it easy. I still not fun to do, but man, it's not that difficult once you follow the step-by-step video. Thank you for taking the time to make it! PS: I see 7 people rated down that video . . . how could they do that? They must be jealous people:-/
Very helpful thank you! A shot of the wire going through the rollers would be helpful but I was able to see how it should go by looking at another blind. good job
i totally agree with the string comment! So you need twice the string she indicates, two times the length and one horizontal length times. This is confusing. I have to go back to the store for twice the string, plus I cut the first 8 yards in half. So what I have, may not work!
Hi, Fixmyblinds! Thanks so much for this video - very clear! One question I had is the video shows the top rail being put together before you string the cords through the cord locks - this somehow doesn't seem possible - you can't get to the cord lock once the two pieces of the top rail are put together. Stumped!
Hi Claire, What part of the video are you referring to? I know that it looks like the headrail gets put back together at about 8:50, but it's just slide on partially, leaving one cord lock exposed at a time for threading.
I couldn't find any examples of my cellular shades. Top down and bottom up. So I made a drawing of the strings and mechanism using a good set then used the drawing to fix the broken one. Mine have spindles.
I should’ve read your comment earlier. I had a handyman here and we were both flummoxed that it only looked like they cut 2 strings but then all of a sudden they had four
HELP! Could you please send me the 5 string diagram (for Graber-Bali top down bottom up cellular honeycomb shade) and also explain where the cords tie or get knotted in the middle rail. There is no mention of that in the video!
Vida - We don't have a diagram for a five-string shade. Just remember that all of the strings that start in the bottom rail exit the shade altogether on the same side of the shade. All of the strings that start at the floating rail exit the shade altogether on the same side of the shade, too. Feel free to call our office at 719-597-0696 for additional help. ~ Gretchen
THREE-HOLE, SIX-STRING & WIDER SHADES!! While this video is very helpful, IMO it is inadequate for wider shades that have a CENTER set of cords. In a case such as that, one will have MORE THAN FOUR cords. The cords will each be of a different length. My six foot wide TDBU shades have six cords total. A few years ago I found an image and captured it using screenshot software. The image is/was still available today and I found it using the phrase "pin on blind repair diagrams & visuals". I hope someone finds this useful, because I was mostly lost trying to use this video.
Hi there, The process is the same for the middle string. It ties off in the bottom rail, goes up thru the fabric, across the top rail and out of the cord lock.
I am so confused - do we cut two string, or four? I've watched this multiple times and I cannot figure it out. I have a Bali top down, bottom up pleated shade.
Hi Matt - You'll need to cut four strings the same length, two for each side. Two of the strings control the top-down function, and two of the strings control the bottom-up function.
Some of the imported string is pretty stretchy and doesn't work very well for blind repair. We recommend the string we carry on our website: fixmyblinds.com/collections/lift-cord-string
Hey Christine - We do not have any restringing instructions for cordless shades yet. We hope to get to that later this year. Best to contact a professional repair company. If you let me know where you're located, I can let you know if we have any referrals in your area.
@@fixmyblinds Thanks! Now the bottom fell off! I don't think I caught enough of the shade material to keep the bottom bracket on. Do you have a tutorial for that?
I suggest you get a quilting needle that has a big eye to thread. I can't figure out how to slide the top rails together and keep all cords where they need to go..... I'm so over this
The end of your video shows you sliding in the two top pieces. If you do that you can't reach the cord lock to thread it... So how do you thread it then slide it together....
You should be able to switch the sides of the top-down and bottom-up operations. You should only need to switch the direction of the strings in the top rail as shown at 4:14.
I am trying to restring and extra large cellular Graber 71.5 x 60 in shade. It has a third pull function in the middle. Graber no help they dont recommend I do myself. I am going to try to cut shorter string and see if I can just go both directions. Do you have a video for the extra large versions?
Elizabeth - We don't have any other restring videos for Graber except the one that you watched. Are there three different shades on the same top rail? Is it the middle shade that has the broken string?
@@fixmyblinds Video has been great! But I do have 3 shades on same top rail. I'm re-stringing all three, I'm stuck on how to thread the cord locks. The end two seems similar to single blind, but not sure about the middle four cord locks. Do. you have suggestions for this?
Sometimes, with top-down-bottom-up, you can just replace the strings on the side with the broken operation. We recommend replacing all of the strings that operate either the top down or bottom up so that the locking device works properly.
Hi Timothy, No, we do not have a video for repairing cordless shades. All of the mechanisms are quite different and can be difficult to repair. We recommend hiring a professional repair person in your local area.
Great question! You do NOT have to restring the bottom up side if it is working properly. You can simply replace the cords that control the top down portion of the shade.
During the restringing, they mention making knots at both ends but then show threading through the pleats and pulley's with no knots. Do you remove the knot from that end?
I apologize for any confusion. The video only demonstrates cutting two strings, but in reality, four separate strings were cut and utilized for repairing the shade. To fix your shade, you will need to cut each string into a separate piece, with each piece measuring (2 times the length of your shade) plus the width of your shade.
This would be one of the most helpful videos ever, but for one thing. The information about cutting the strings is totally inadequate. The diagram can be used to guess at the number of pieces needed, but the lengths required differ according to whether a given string goes through the cord lock on the same side as it's attached, or the one on the opposite side. I've wasted a lot of string that's not cheap.
Hi Mary, I hope that the video was overall helpful to you. Our string cutting guide is a generous estimate designed to give folks enough string, even if mistakes are made. We do know that trimming is required and that can result in some wasted string. We like the simplicity of the formula we use. It's honestly much easier for many people than figuring out the exact length needed for each string. Please let me know if I can answer any additional questions or help with anything.
Hi there, We don't have guides or instructions for repairing cordless shades. All of the different cordless systems are complex and vary significantly in how they are assembled and operate. We recommend contacting a local blind repair company to see if they can help. If you'd like a referral, let me know where you are located. I might know of a company in your area.
Okay you must explain that you insert the cord into the lock on the right side first then slide the plates together. Then you do the left side... It's so hard and you don't show that part well.
Repairing a top-down-bottom-up shade made by Graber/Bali can be a challenging repair. I recommend taking some photos of how your blind is assembled before taking everything apart. And, it may take some trial and error to repair, especially if it's your first time fixing a blind. But, we're here to help! You can always reach out to us at service@fixmyblinds.com with questions.
+Louis Ambrose Our recommendation for string length gives you a generous estimate. Better to cut all the strings once and do the repair than have to recut strings that are too short.
Because their formula is dumb. You only need to know the drop length of the blind. If it's 20 inches then you need 20 inches of thread and about 15 extra for leveling and for your pull cords. That's it. No real science.
I keep looking at your image for the wide (3-string) TD/BU. Why do the red cords go too the top rail and then extend to the sides? And where do cords end? Don’t they just tie off at the top rail?
